Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp hailed the impact of new signing Thiago Alcantara, a player he said made the "perfect start" to his Reds career in their win over Chelsea on Sunday.

The Spanish international was named on the bench for the game at Stamford Bridge, just two days after joining from Bayern Munich in a deal which could cost the Reds up to £27 million ($35m).

Klopp decided to introduce the midfielder at half-time as the Reds looked to take advantage of a red card from Andreas Christensen just before the break.

The visitors did just that as a pair of Sadio Mane goals – the second aided by another error from Kepa Arrizabalaga – gave the defending champions a 2-0 win on the afternoon.

Thiago made a major impact in his debut, as he completed more passes (75) than any Chelsea player managed in the entire match.

His 75 successful passes were also the most by a player who played a maximum of 45 minutes since at least 2003-04.

Unsurprisingly, Klopp was delighted with the 29-year-old's first Liverpool match.

"We decided to bring Thiago on early because it was 11v10 and a player like him can command the rhythm. It was the perfect start for him and the boys helped him massively," Klopp told BBC Sport.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp added: Top timing. He played with Spain and trained with Munich so he's fit, that's not a problem. He needs to get used to his team-mates, but when they went one man down it became the perfect game for him.

"I liked his game a lot. Defensively it was tricky for him, but offensively, with the ball, that's him, he wants to pass the ball."

Chelsea desire and defending leaves Frank Lampard happier after Liverpool defeat than following Brighton win

Frank Lampard said he was encouraged by the spirit, desire and defending of his Chelsea team, despite their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The Blues were reduced to 10 men when Andreas Christensen was sent off just before half-time and goals from Sadio Mane after the break secured a dominant Liverpool all three points, with Jorginho missing a penalty for Chelsea.

However, Lampard was keen to take the positives from his side's performance and ranked it better than their 3-1 opening weekend win at Brighton.

"I was happy about our defensive game," he told Sky Sports. "I wanted them to be better on the ball. We showed moments on the counter-attack where we dangerous. But to limit them to the chances they got in the first-half, there were lots of things I was pleased about.

"My team talk at half-time was going to be: 'let's be more confident on the ball lads.' Then the red card changes the whole team talk.

"They can be given or not. Once the yellow is the first decision, you feel it needs to be absolutely critical that it's a red to make that difference. I'm not sure it was. I'm not going to complain too much.

"I'm disappointed to lose three points, as you always will be and should be, but actually I'm happier today in many ways than I was at Brighton. Brighton was three points, an OK performance.

"We're in pre-season still because we haven't had long enough to train a lot of the individuals and as a collective.

"Today I saw spirit, a desire to defend by a lot of our players. Reece James, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, the midfield giving everything to block gaps. You play half a game with 10 men - you don't make that mistake for the second goal, you score the penalty it's 1-1. I know that's not football and I know I can't reflect on that but those are the realities.

"The players should take heart. It's how we go forward from here now. Normally with new faces you get a month or so of pre-season to work on your patterns of play. That's why the stuff on the ball at the minute is what I'm not so happy about. The way we're defending I'm very happy with."

Lampard also insisted he wants his team to be given time to gel and develop and said, given the influx of new signings, this season should be seen as a new project from the one which took Chelsea to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

"Every team that has been successful in the modern day has had time, has had a process," he said. "Our process starts here. Not from last year. Last year was a squad that we couldn't do much business going into it, so we worked and we worked and we worked and we came fourth.

"Now it's a new start, our objectives are higher, our expectations are higher, fine. But it will take some time."

Call it Los Pincharratas (The Rat Stabbers) or El León (The Lion), Estudiantes de La Plata, Estudiantes de La Plata has been one name synonymous to be the inaugural team outside the traditional "big five" to win a professional league title. The club has reopened its stadium with a hologram and not much to a surprise the hologram is one flamboyant, blazing lion. The flare of the colossal flaming lion leaping across the roof of a football ground was worth a vision. Onlookers were astonished. The dazzling leonine hologram heralded the reopening of the club’s new stadium.

The eye-catching lion springs into motion out of the firmament and prances along the roof before leaping onto the pitch. It does not end like this…the lion in flames has more to show. It roars in front of all the spectators who have fore gathered to witness the delightful show.

Holographic imagery is the latest in trend and Estudiantes' stadium has displayed such a picturesque show. Holograms were used earlier this year by Esports' League of Legends World Championship in their opening ceremony.

The renovated Jorge Luis Hirshi Stadium had been closed since 2005. A friendly was played between Estudiantes club legends celebrating the reopening officially.

David Abraham and Christian Streich come to blows…

Eintracht Frankfurt captain David Abraham knocks down Christian Streich who is the coach of Freiburg. Sport-Club Freiburg plays in the Bundesliga, having been promoted as champions from the 2. Bundesliga in 2016. Abraham was sent off for flooring Christian Streich resulting a chaotic end and red cards to their Bundesliga game on Sunday.

Freiburg was leading 1-0 and on that very moment the ball went out of play in injury time. Abraham tried to rebound it and Streich had let the ball go by. Abraham hustled Streich with a shoulder as he ran by. Freiburg players and staff became distressed following this and started to chase the defender on to the field.

A yellow card was shown to Freiburg assistant coach, Florian Bruns and Vincenzo Grifo, who had been substituted, was shown red card after video assistant referee picked him up condemning Abraham in the breach of peace.

Abraham had to eat humble pie after being sent off for punching as Streich said Abraham expressed regret afterwards and the issue is deemed and reckoned to be over.

Streich said that football is a contact sport and refrained from commenting further by declaring not to have any silly talk about the entire incident. Some of his words regarding the brawl were, “At 54 you can be run over by a young buffalo; you can’t hold yourself against it anymore.”

Freiburg won 1-0 and Nils Petersen’s 77th-minute goal was all that the team needed.
