Waimea Canyon In Kauai Hawaii

When you think of Hawaii, you usually think of beautiful, prestine beaches, not mountains. But the island of Kauai offers both in a magnificient way.

The Waimea Canyon, located in the south side of the Kauai Island is popularly considered as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific and it definitely stands up there living up to its reputation, its huge mountainous canyon with reddish tint soil.

There are two ways to see the Waimea Canyon, either to see it by air in a helicopter ride (thats another article!) or by car. There are two different main roads (highways) to get to the top of the canyon. Both roads will meet near the top of the canyon and both are steep incline and windy roads, so going up hill or downhill through these roads you need to have a reliable breaking system in your car and drive according to the posted speed limit. You also need to make sure that you have enough gas to drive up and down of the canyon because there is not a lot of establishments available on your way up or on top.

On your way up, there are some spots that are worth stopping and savoring the view and take few shots or just to enjoy the beautiful scenery of that particular area. When you see a nice view, chances are, you will never see exactly the same scene as you continue to go up or down. Each view or scenery is unique, so grab every oppurtunity to enjoy the view for a moment, if time permits!

Knowing that you are climbing a steep mountain terrain, the weather at sea level can be totally different once you start climbing up. It can be sunny below but up in the canyon, the higher elevation you go, the weather can change in an instant. The weather up in the canyon is quite unpredictable, it can go sunny and bright to dark and gloomy, and could drizzle in an instant. Or it can stay sunny the whole day, if you get lucky. But dont let the minor changes in temperature or drizzle intimidate or scare you, as long as you feel safe and comfortable the view on top is all worth it. In a specially unpredictable day and too foggy and rainy day, it might be better to move your trip to go up for safety sake and to reserve a better day to see better views because what you see up there depends on how good or bad the weather is.

There are different vista points on top of the canyon that are developed to accomodate tourists and visitors to see the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. There are road signs, arrows, and vista signs all over, so that people who visit there for the first time will even have an idea where the areas are, to see the views. So keep your eyes open, look out for the road signs!

To get the best of your visit in the Waimea Canyon, choose a day that is not foggy so that you can maximize your viewing experience and you see more clearly including some of the water falls that are cascading in those huge mountains! Foggy and rainy days can be a problem because it could over take the atmosphere and its hard to see all the canyons from afar, which is what Waimea Canyon is all about.

A great place to stop for snack or meal is at Kokee, where they have restaurant, souvenier shops, outdoor picnic tables, and trails for hiking or walking. You also get to see a huge number of chickens, called the Road Warriors there, just hanging out in the nice green field near the picnic tables.

Kauai Waterfalls And Lots Of It

The Island of Kauai in Hawaii offers multiple stunning display of waterfalls in different parts of the island. Although some of the waterfalls are accessible by road or by foot, most of the waterfalls in the island are not accessible by land and can only be seen by air, and can be seen at their fullest beauty by air.

Being one of the oldest island among the existing islands of Hawaii, Kauai is the greenest and wettest island of them all. Wetter environment means more water, that creates not one, not two, but lots and lots of waterfalls cascading in different parts of the mountainous Kauai.

So if you are looking for magnificient display of nature, keep in mind the waterfalls in Kauai. Flying to see the waterfalls is not something that you do everyday, but it is something you can do just even once and the experience and memory stays with you everyday, forever.

Explore Amador County California

Not everyone probably heard or are familiar with Amador County but many probably heard of the history of gold rush in California and Amador County is a huge part of such history. Back in the gold rush days, hopeful gold miners flocked in Amador County to pursue their dreams of finding gold and thats when the gold mining activities in the area bloomed and developed tremendously.

The photos aboved are taken in Kennedy Tailing Wheels in Jackson CA of Amador County as one of the many preserved historical areas that where previously utilized during the gold mining era. There are several historic places in Amador County which allows tourists and visitors to explore and reconnect how it was like during the gold-rush days. You can visit gold mining facilities where actual gold-mining activities took place.

The historic Main Street in downtown Jackson CA (see photos above) is a great place for shopping where you can find really neat stuff. Jackson CA Main Street has an old town feel with buildings resembles old western building architecture. If you are into antiquing, this is a great place to go! There are several antique shops that could easily fulfill ones treasure hunting fantasy.

The historic National Hotel (below) can be found at one end of Jackson Main Street. All throughout Amador County you can find other old towns with great shopping and dining like Sutter Creek CA and Ione CA.

Downtown Jackson, CA is a great area to just walk around town and check out old buildings and nature.

During spring time (around March to April), the gate of Daffodil Hill in Volcano CA opens to the public. It is a great place to enjoy this beautiful and relaxing flower park and take photographs of the blooming daffodil flowers that covers acreages of rolling hills.

Expect The Unexpected In Hawaii

When people hear of Hawaii, usually, the first thing that comes to their mind are beautiful beaches. No doubt, Hawaii is famous for a reason. Because Hawaii Islands are abundant of beautiful tropical weather, nice warm and inviting beaches, and stunning views. But Hawaii has lots of others things to offer, sometimes unexpected, things that you never imagine that you would see when you go there for a visit.

Some of the most beautiful and big waves in the world can be seen in Hawaii due to its unique and volcanic characteristic that have all these volcanic rocks in different shapes and sizes in several parts of the shore and under the ocean. You can expect the waves to come, but you can never expect how each waves transform into as they crashed violently against each of the black volcanic rocks.

One of the best way to see the Hawaiian Islands is by renting a car and drive all around the island. There are so many famous spots and tourist destinations that are listed as must-see in Hawaii, but when you drive, you see more spots and views in different angles than what is visible in Lookout Points, postcards, or tour books. Hawaii have lots of stunning areas worthy of stop over that you can see as you drive along the roads and highways.

Ocean and river views are some of the expected sceneries that you came to see in the island. But as you browse through the water scenes, there are times that you unexpectedly see a boat passing by or a kayaker cruising lazily along the body of water.

Native plants and flowers are definitely some of the things to look out for. As you walk around the block, you will never know what flowers and fruit you will encounter. You will never know when you will bump into a bunch of exotic flowers wildly multiplying in a corner of a walkway or a roadway.

The early morning rooster may perform its cock-a-du-dol-do right outside your hotel room, reminding you of your actual stay in the island. And who dont like to hear a rooster greeting you in the morning telling you to wake up and enjoy the island instead of a buzzing alarm clock telling you to wake up fast and beat the morning traffic?

When you wake up in the morning, you can never anticipate which wild animals will come to see you and greet you Good Morning! At times, a hen and its chick will be waiting below your hotel balcony as they look for their morning meal and hope that you got one.

As you feed the rooster and the chicken, the ducks and the goose may unexpectedly join the feeding frenzy as well. You will never know, usually they just come all of a sudden.

See a totally unusual road scenery as you cruised along with your renter car. You will probably catch one of the standing tall bare branches like these ones:

During your visit to the beach, you will never know who will come to land in the sand right in front of you! How cute is this:

As you examine one of the tree in the sides, who could possibly expect a birds nest, openly situated at humans eye level.

Or see a playful dog having fun and simply hanging out in an ocean river, as the water flow towards the ocean.

A horse running alone in his lonesome self in the road of Hawaii? Totally unexpected, but it is an amazing find!

So next time you go to Hawaii, you may enjoy the beaches, the food and the shopping, but if you open your eyes to everything and anything around you, you will unexpectedly see so much more!

Fountains In Fountains At Roseville

I went to Roseville, California for the first time this month with my hubby and we happened to pass by Fountains At Roseville along Galleria Blvd, just off of Hwy 65 and Hwy Interstate-80. We love water fountains, and the fountain they have placed at the entrance of their mall caught our attention, so we decided to swing around and check the place out.

To our amazement, while strolling around the vicinity, we found more fountains within the shopping center, Fountains At Roseville. As the name of the mall implies, they really decorate their place with several types of decorative water fountains. One of my favorite fountain they have is this huge bubbling jar, standing taller than me:

Probably the crowd favorite is the musical fountain show they have complete with variety of water displays, fog effect, and music.

They also have interesting art deco all over the place including big mosse and deer statues, butterfly benches, big clocks, etc. And the well-manicured palm trees they used to landscape the place looks really neat.

We also found all kinds of neat shops and botiques in the area. We found our salad dip mixer there.

Unforgetable White Sand Beach At Carmel By-The-Sea

We went to visit some friends in the Bay Area in California inorder to realize a planned day trip to Santa Cruz Boardwalk. While were there, our friends insisted that we should swing to Carmel By-The-Sea right after visiting Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Without any regrets, we are so glad that we took the chance and spent an extra hour travelling towards Carmel By-The-Sea, which is located few minutes away from Monterey, California.

Carmel By-The-Sea awaits stunning angle of the pacific ocean. With its fine white sand, nice blue ocean, and less crowded atmosphere, it is definitely a great place to unwind, relax and enjoy the popular California weather, that everyone sought after! The sand was safe and pretty clean allowing us to freely kick off our slippers and enjoy the natural expoliating effect of the sandy shore.

And if you have a pet dog and would like to bring her/him to the beach, Carmel By-The-Sea area is a very dog-friendly beach. While strolling along the beach, I could see a lot of unleashed pet dogs walking side-by-side with their owners and some occasionally playing with the waves. So instead of leaving your dog behind in your home or a pet boarding house while you wish to unwind and getaway from hectic works and busy lifestyle, why not enjoy a vacation with your dog instead?

If beautiful views and stunning beach doesnt concenvince you, dont despair, there are tons of shopping opportunities at Carmel By-The-Sea. Just a few minutes walk from the beach are really cool shops and boutiques to check out. The area has a small town feel with lots to offer for locals, tourists and visitors. Great dining and lodging are also abundant in the area. So if you are anywhere near northern CA, in the Bay Area, or anywhere in mainland USA and is looking for a great beach getaway, Carmel by-The-Sea offers you great alternative for a more relaxing beach vacation without being so far away from shopping and activities.

What is a vacation in Hawaii without shopping? Shopping is definitely one of the most anticipated and favorite activity for most tourists and visitors in the island. With the state of Hawaii being in the tropics, you can definitely expect a tropical shopping experience, lots of flowers, native products, sea shells, hawaiian traditional artifacts, just to name a few.

In the island of Kauai, one of the popular shopping mall is the Coconut Marketplace, where they offer almost everything and anything that you want to experience, expect and find in the island like local foods, unique hawaiian soveniers, traditional and tribal clothings, and a lot lot more! There are so many variety of shops in Coconut Marketplace that it could easily take hours and hours if not a whole day to go through every single shop!

Wood carvings, wood furnitures, flower wreaths, floral clothings, sea shell decors and jewelries, live plants, and tropical fruits and vegetables are some of the things that are hugely available in Kauii, Hawaii.

There is something for everyone! Exploring and shop hopping is definitely part of the fun to do during your Kauai Hawaii visit. Redwood Day Trip

If you are anywhere near northern California, southern Oregon, or coastal Oregon, you are definitely not very far away from the huge trees at Jedediah Smith Redwoods Park, showcasing centuries old natural giant sequioa trees that occupies acres and acres of land in northern CA near Crescent City.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods Park is accessible from southern Oregon via the long and winding road of Hwy 199 that stretch from the City of Grants Pass in Oregon all the way to Crescent City in California. The road Hwy 199 is mostly two lanes paved road with plenty of nature views await those who patiently follow its curvy path. But if you are coming from the opposite direction, either from coastal Oregon or northern CA, the park is also easily accessible through Hwy 101, a popular scenic road which offers everyone plenty of stunning views of the pacific ocean.

Standing next to giant sequioa trees around you could easily makes you feel small and in awe. These huge trees have been standing more or less 50 feet tall since many centuries ago in these protected and preserved land. Each mature sequioa tree has wide diameter span, easily a lot more than two people hand in hand around it. Some of these trees are so huge that some of the trees have been developed like a tunnel where you can literally drive a car under its massive length, yes they are that big! In broad daylight, it is mostly shady and dark around the trees, that widely dominate majority of the area. And because of its shady-like forrest, there are plenty of natural grown ferns beds that you can expect all over the place as well. Trees looking so simple, but with its massive size and tall length, giant sequioa trees are definitely extraordinary!

If you are thinking of or in searched of an ultimate vacation and lifetime exhilarating experience, a great way to get both is by riding a helicopter tour in Hawaii, in the island of Kauai, where this beautiful island awaits plenty of stunning display of natures best!

Cruising Along The Wailua River

If you are heading towards the beautiful island of Kauai in Hawaii USA, a must-thing to do and see is a relaxing river cruise along the Wailua River with boat destination towards the Fern Grotto, which is only accessible via the river.

There are few ways to go to the Fern Grotto, the most popular and highly recommended ones are the boat river cruise or the kayaking. A definitely worthwhile way to see the Wailua River with a visit to the Fern Grotto is by a boat tour, a family-owned and family-operated business by the Smiths Family, where they have several open air wooden boats cruising along the river at different times of the day. For around $20 per adult, you get a ticket aboard one of the Smiths river boat, enjoy some local Hawaiian songs and dances as the boat cruises along the river, get to see beautiful hidden views with narration that can only be seen along the river, and a worthwhile guided tour to the Fern Grotto. While cruising along the river, you also get to see those people who are kayaking in the river as they paddle their way towards their own destinations.

At the Fern Grotto Park, there is a boat docking area there where visitors can disembark and walk few minutes inorder to see the Fern Grotto itself. The developed walkway path towards the Fern Grotto is a treat in itself because you have the chance to see some exotic tropical plants that are native or some common only in Hawaii, that you may have never seen in the mainland USA. Although the super long ferns are now replaced with new growths due to weather or storm, you will noticed that there are a lot of ferns hanging around the cave with a waterfall above it.

First Time In Cal Expo

I had heard of Cal Expo several times in the past but I never had the chance to visit the area until this year. Cal Expo is probably most famous as the main venue for the California State Fair, that is held on a yearly basis here in California where there are all kinds of exhibits and booths. Cal Expo is located in the heart of the city capital, Sacramento CA. Early this year, we had the chance to visit Cal Expo and had the chance to visit this popular destination as a venue for many shows and events in the state.We had limited time to walk around the whole vicinity, but I would like to share some of the snapshots of the place during our quick visit there.

Nature At Its Grand at Bryce Canyon

Few years ago, we couldnt be happier to get the chance to visit one of the amazing display of nature in a huge way at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, USA.

At Bryce Canyon National Park, you will witness the effects of nature and time in shaping and reshaping our earth in a totally amazing way. The once solid mountain plateaus turned into several different formations and carvings exposing several layers of multi-colored elements of the mountain. You will get to see stunning unique formations that took shaped due to erosion including thousands of spires, arches, and more. Year after year, none of these formations ever remains the same. The shapes of spires and arches constantly change as storms and rains continues to carve and reshape these rocks. So you can expect to see something different everytime you go there, depending on how mother nature decides to carve it!

Unfortunately, our visit at Bryce Canyon was purely accidental and unplanned, that was why we no longer have digital memory disk to use to take several photos, and we only had few shots left in our 35mm camera! The photos that we took during our visit definitely dont do justice how beautiful and magical the park real is.

If you happen to be in Southern Utah, a stop over at Bryce Canyon is definitely a trip to remember. Bryce Canyon National Park offers their visitors lots of information regarding the park including videos, maps, and tours. They also have a souvenier shop where you can purchase posters, books, magazines, maps, postcards, and all types of novelties and remembrance that will remind you of your park visit or get to know more about the Bryce Canyon National Parks and its history.

NOTE: During winter time around November and December, expect to see some snow adding highlights to the park and it maybe cold, so it would be best to have jackets and sweaters handy. Different time of year at Bryce Canyon offers different scenery depending on the weather.

Larger Than Life Flying Machines

Many of us are deeply fascinated and in great awe of great inventions and innovations. And the one place that has lots to offer when it comes to your fascination regarding space shuttles, launchers, moon walker, other huge flying machines and state-of-the art technologies, is the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Orlando Florida.

At Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, you will see larger than life flying machines that were previously been used to travel through space. The complex currently house some of the actual huge space shuttles that the astrounauts used for space travels. You will also find some simulations rides inorder to experience the thrills and chills of being on a space craft. You can check out some of the interiors of some the huge space shuttles, so you have an idea how they actually look. Know how it feels like to be inside an actual Control Center for launching space shuttle.

So if you happen to be in Florida, it is definitely worth it to visit Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. You definitely cannot claim that you see the whole state of Florida unless you been to the Kennedy Space Center. Definitely, this is a great way to explore what is available and possible beyond what is normal here on earth.

A Trip To Brentwood California

Last weekend, we were able to visit the city of Brentwood in California. It is located near northern California in the bay area, near Oakland, CA.

We took the route towards Stockton CA at Hwy 99 and then took the shortest route towards Brentwood CA from Stockton which is Hwy 4. I cant recall using Hwy 4 before but the road is mostly two lanes all the way to Brentwood.

It was in the morning when we droved in Hwy 4, so the fog didnt completely lift yet. Most areas around Hwy 4 is a flat and moist, which you can definitely expect some fogs specially during winter and fall due to all the moisture in the air. Parts of Hwy 4 road is along the leevee, so the road was a little bumpy and unsmooth. But the traffic is definitely minimal compare to using the main Bay Area access like Hwy 580 or Hwy 80. Along the way, we passed by two main bridges in Hwy 4

There are many parts of Brentwood CA that are new, and recently developed areas. There are lots of new housing development. Many of the houses there looks new, huge, and modern.

There are also shopping centers and plenty of well-designed and quite parks within the city limit. During our visit there, we also passed by under construction housings and shopping centers. City streets are well-developed, and the atmosphere of the place is peaceful and clean, definitely a great place for raise a family.

Yesterday, I had an email alert from Eventful regarding upcoming shows and events in some of the venues that I selected in my user preferences to give me alert when new events are happening near us. When I browsed through the email alert, the one event that caught my attention was Disney On Ice.
I been to a Disney On Ice show once with my hubby to celebrate our anniversary one year. It was an afternoon show in Arco Arena in Sacramento, CA. We ended up in the front seat, so it was truly a memorable and magical experience for us, to see the performance live in front of us and seeing all our favorite Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy. As far as I can recall, I think the show lasted for about an hour more or less, pack with great performance with theme from different Disney movies and movie characters like Lilo and Litch, Dalmatians, and more.

The show is great for family, and the best part about it is that they performed in different parts of the United States, that way you can always check their schedule to know when they are coming in your area, so that you dont have to pay for airline tickets and hotels to see the show. And if you have kids, they will surely love it, not only they will enjoy the day, but remember that day for the rest of their life.

Heavenly In South Lake Tahoe

One of the favorite area that I really liked during our short trip at South Lake Tahoe late last year (2007) was our visit at Heavenly. If you are a skier, you probably heard of Heavenly Ski Resort, one of the most popular ski resort around Lake Tahoe. But during our visit to Heavenly area, I realized that the area of Heavenly is so much more than just for skiing. In the foothills and valleys below the Heavenly Ski Resort mountain slope, you will see shopping malls with all kinds of great specialty shops, restaurants, snack bars, banks, and more. We also noticed a circular ice skating rink in the middle of the mall center, and we also noticed a cable ride.

That Goose In Lake Tahoe Beach

During our short visit to Lake Tahoe this year 2007 (back and forth around CA and NV area), we were able to roam around and see quite a few of the different places in Lake Tahoe, like the casinos, some popular vista points, great restaurants, and other regular tourist spots that many people look forward to visit when they want to visit the world famous Lake Tahoe.

During our visit, one early morning, we also had the chance to enjoy watching all the geese that were hanging out in the Lake Tahoe sand beach area, just a short walking distance and very closed walk to where we stayed overnight. We took several photos of the geese that day.

But when I was browsing through most of the photos that we took that day, I found this particular photo (see above) of a goose that have very interesting message and great impact in me personally. I remember this particular goose, hanging out in the sand beach with the other geese and bird crowd, but we noticed that she was limping and walking with one leg. For some reason, her other leg was messed up, and she can only walk with her other leg. I felt that the goose was so strong and determined, she was walking all over, despite her broken leg. It reminds me of the fact, that despite all the trials and problems humans face today, imperfections and trials, should not hinder us from achieving our goals and desires in life. I just wanted to share this photo we took that day and hopefully will inspire and touch someone out there, whom I may never know, could really use it too!

Undiscovered Activities at Walt Disney World

Few days ago, in a nice October afternoon of 2007, I was channel hopping on TV, and found a travel documentary tv show about the many undiscovered activities in Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida. For a lot of people like myself, we see the Disney World as a theme park with rides, novelty shops, food bars, and shows, but the tv show travel documentary revealed that there are a lot more to Disney World that just a theme park.

I cannot remember exactly what channel the show was aired, but I realized that there are plenty of other activities in Disney World that were not known by majority of the people, i guess, not until the tv show documentary got aired this year (2007). Until then, I never realized that Disney World offers the following activities for the visitors:

Private surfing lessons and surfing in the laggoon
Para-sailing in the lake
Scuba diving in one of the biggest tank in the world and see most sea creature all in one day
Special trip to the Safari before the park opens and have close encounter with the animals in the Animal Kingdom
Nascar driving experience where you can drive fast race car at 140+ miles/hour legally
A luxury yatch for rent, to celebrate a special day

I honestly could not remember everything that were revealed in the tv show, but it sure was amazing to find out that there are a lot more that Disney World are offering to the public, and all of it sounds really fun! I had a blast during our visit to Disney World few years ago, but trying out some of the activities mentioned above would be great experience.

Battle Rock City Park in Oregon

If you are heading towards Oregon for a vacation, a very worthwhile place to checkout is the Battle Rock City Park along Hwy 1 in the Oregon Coast. Its picturistic view of the pacific ocean and massive stones in the sea are beauty beyond compare.

Battle Rock City Park is located west of Oregon in between southern and central Oregon area. If you decide to take a road trip to this park, just follow the scenic Hwy 1 route either from California or from Portland Oregon.

Aside from Battle Rock City Park, there are many other beaches and beach front communities that you can checkout around Hwy 1, to make your road trip worthwhile. It could easily take a whole day trip to checkout Southern Oregon coastal side, and if you decide to stay in one of the inns or hotels and enjoy the ocean view more, you might need more than a day to be able to see the whole Hwy 1 stretch of Southern Oregon coast.
