Time to make a Plan B. Employment Plan B, that is.

I know, I know. I need to make a plan B. I knew it yesterday when I posted about my pay being two weeks late. Actually I knew it before then I just didn’t want to face the reality.

I am getting paid finally now but have no idea about when I’ll get my next paycheck after that which is basically due at the same time. I hate the uncertainty and not getting firm answers from my employers. I’m a great employee and work hard but I feel so disrespected and undervalued.

Additionally I’ve felt for a while that the job isn’t the right fit for me. It started off being perfect but has slowly evolved to more responsibility in my least favorite area. Whereas when I first started I was mainly doing things I enjoyed I’m not doing mostly stuff I dislike. The switch in my role has made me pretty unhappy in the last couple months and I’ve thought about changing jobs or careers even before the paycheck incident.

So… on to my Plan B.

I don’t have one. Now is the time to create one but I feel paralyzed. What should I do?

I fell into the job I have now quite accidentally. I had the right skill set but I’ve learned it’s not something I enjoy. So do I find a similar job? Or try something new entirely?

Do I try to find something full time? Part time? Both?

How should I try to transition to a different career? How do you even pick a career when your college education was general and you don’t enjoy the only specific skills you have?

Bother. I’m feeling rather lost.

I enjoy financial planning and numbers but have no experience in this area. I enjoy kids but have no experience or qualifications to teach. Maybe I could find an assistant job for a financial professional? Maybe I could be a nanny? You see how far and wide my interests reach? I’m not even focused on a certain area but bounce the “I could do that” over any possible job I come across.

I guess my employment plan B comes down to these steps:

dust off and refresh my resume

browse available jobs that interest me

write cover letters and apply for the jobs

build up online income to cover gaps

build up emergency fund to make transitioning easier

if all else fails join a temp agency after quitting current job (last resort)

Probably not even in that order. But I’m trying at least. So much work to do in addition to working the actual job I’m wanting to leave. I hate this feeling, but I know it’s necessary.

As I briefly mentioned in one of my previous posts, my pay is two weeks late. So my paycheck that was supposed to be direct deposited at the 15th of the month has still not arrived by the 27th.

Oops?

In a way I feel like it’s my fault because I told my employer I was okay with it being a little late. In the past it’s been a day or two late and it hasn’t bothered me. I understand that as a small business providing a service they are sometimes behind too waiting for payments as well.

But two weeks late?

Goodness. It bothers me. It drives me insane actually. I’m at the point where I want to quit. That’s funny because when I got this job it was a godsend. It was the perfect job at the perfect time and it really saved me from being completely broke and unable to get married. But now I’m so frustrated I’m ready to make a change even though I like the work and love my coworkers.

I guess I need to get paid!

It’s not even the security aspect of it. If I was blogging full time I wouldn’t mind the insecurity of wondering how much I will make the next month. I just feel like not getting paid for a full two weeks is so disrespectful and wrong that it makes me not want to work for them anymore.

So that’s where I’m at job wise. I really, really don’t want to look for a new job but this getting paid late is a habitual thing and it’s only getting worse. I either need to seek new employment or ramp up my blogging efforts (currently making about half my current salary). Either way, I need to make a change.

Two weeks late just doesn’t cut it!

Have you ever been paid late by an employer? What did you do?

I’ve been doing a lot of “window shopping” on Amazon. I can’t actually buy things but adding stuff to my wishlist is almost as satisfying.

Crystal for Hire’s advertising service continues to be the best thing ever for my blog. I’m so glad I signed up with her and wish I had done it forever ago! I love not worrying about ad stuff and just blogging my silly blog things.

It’s been an expensive week. Weeks like this make me wonder if I’ll ever actually get out of debt and feel financially secure.

My job is about two weeks late in paying me. Um, okay. This is sort of a problem and if I had a huge rent bill or mortgage at the moment I’d be screwed. I like my job and don’t really want to look for other employment but getting paid two weeks late? It sucks. I wonder how late my next paycheck will be because of it.

Thousandaire paid off another of his student loans thanks to his website side gig. I am hoping my website will help me pay off my student loans faster. Perhaps it is the key to paying off student loans more quickly?
