In reply to Gabriele. Unfortunately, this solution, like many Web Viewer based solutions, does not work with WebDirect. In order for it to work there, you would need to implement frequent refreshes which would make it very frustrating to interact with.

I prepared everything but unfortunately the template only works on clients…
If it is used in web direct everything works except the two web viewers (they remain empty and white) however the messages are sent and (it seems) received… but you cannot see the content nor the notification in the small viewer.
Another problem, there is a reference to the portal text object (enter calculated result | Messenger~new_Employee~from::UserName| ) to a table value that is not referenced in the explanations I solved it by inserting another portal that sets the field of the chatusername with the value of the user, but the small web viewer above does not update.
Is it possible to use it completely in WEB DIRECT…???

Hello!
I just started working with an art collection that houses different artist’s archives inside. They currently have a different filemaker file for each archive and I would like to house them all inside a general file with the name of the institution. i.e.: Inside the file “Collection X” we find archive1, archive2, archive3, and archive4.

Each archive has its own layout and themes. I’m not necessarily interested in merging them as one since they don’t have anything to do with each other other than belonging to the same institution. I just want an umbrella file where I can access all the different archives in one sole file. Is this at all possible without starting from scratch?

After reading the article I don’t know if the term “merge” would work in this case, but I’m not familiar enough with the software to know how to solve this or what to look for.

Any guidance is appreciated!

10+ years in and this is still a great script. Fields now have type-ahead / autocomplete but it doesn’t work nearly as well as this. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don’t have an up to date sample file available.

I’ve tried following your article but have had no success. My FMP knowledge is not very strong. I’m not exactly sure where to place your commands in Step 2 once copied.

Do you have a simple file updated for the latest release of FMP that I could study?

How could you make the portal rows as searchable fields. What I mean is that if I select a field in a portal row, I want that field to be a searchable field so that as I type to elicit the search and to minimize my selection I can select the needed item and this should appear on that field. Thanks!
