First, what is “syskey”?
SYSKEY is a utility that encrypts the hashed password information in a SAM database in a Windows system using a 128-bit encryption key.
SYSKEY was an optional feature added in Windows NT 4.0 SP3. It was meant to protect against offline password cracking attacks so that the SAM database would still be secure even if someone had a copy of it. However, in December 1999, a security team from Bind View found a security hole in SYSKEY which indicates that a certain form of cryptanalytic attack is possible offline. A brute force attack then appeared to be possible.
Microsoft later collaborated with Bind View to issue a fix for the problem (dubbed the ‘Syskey Bug’) which appears to have been settled and SYSKEY has been pronounced secure enough to resist brute force attack.
According to Todd Sabin of the Bind View team RAZOR, the pre-RC3 versions of Windows 2000 were also affected.
So this is pretty cool, right? Well, I really like the idea of keeping this on Floppy so that it requires a floppy disk (a sort of 2 factor (hardware/software) authentication?).
Naturally I wanted to go a bit further and use this on a USB drive instead of storing to a Floppy. I can’t see myself carrying a floppy and a USB floppy drive around with me. After all, this provides another layer of security.
NOTE: I haven’t tested copying data from 1 USB to another USB to see if it works as a backup. This way you could lock up a USB drive as a spare if needed.
Here’s how to get this to work using a USB drive.
1. Insert your USB drive into your system and wait for it to be recognized and install any necessary drivers.
2. Fire up disk management and re-assign the drive letter it was given to “A”.

Start up disk management by clicking Start and typing diskmgmt.msc

Right-click the USB drive and choose to assign driver letter or path.

Assign it to letter “A”

Accept the warning message

Now your USB drive is “A”

3. Run Syskey and save encryption to USB Drive “A”

Click Start and type syskey followed by hitting Enter

Syskey launched; Click “Update”

Choose “Store Startup key on floppy disk” and click “OK”

You’ll be prompted to enter your diskette. Make sure your USB drive is inserted and writable.
4. Reboot and have fun. Don’t lose your USB disk! Also, to revert this, you can run syskey again and choose to store it locally instead of “on a floppy disk”.

a) Go to control panel ( Start - Control panel )

b) Double click on network connections icon to open.

c) Right click on local area connection and select properties.

d) Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” which is generally last in the list and Double click on it.

e) Make sue that “Obtain DNS server address automatically” is selected not "Use the following DNS server address"

f) Click OK

Sometimes DNS.Changer kind of mawares chnage DNS automatically after every restart in that case you go to control panel > administrative tools > services and look for "dns client" double click on it to get its menu. Switch it to "disabled" and "stop" it and hit apply.

2. Check your Local Area Connection setting.

There are chances that the virus is redirecting your browser through some alien proxy.Make sure that the browser proxy is disable or if you use proxy then double check ip address and post number.

To check your LAN settings -

a) Open internet explorer >In internet explorer go to Tools - Internet options.

b) Click on 5th tab ie.(Connections tab), then click “LAN settings” button.

c) Make sure that “Proxy server” option is Unchecked.

d) For firefox - Open firefox and go to Tools > Options

e) Click on the ‘Advanced’ > ‘Network’ tab, > ‘Settings’
f) Ensure the ‘No Proxy’ radio button is selected and click ‘OK’ and close.
For chrome, safari and other browser you can perform similar steps and Unchecked any proxy server option.

3. Check windows Host file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc.

In some case virus can edit and modify your system host file which will redirect we pages from one website to any other website.
a) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and right click on “hosts” file and open with notepad.
An unmodified HOSTS file should only contain the IP address 127.0.0.1 localhost. If there are other entries in the HOSTS file, remove them and then resave the file.
Windows 7 users need to open this file With the administrator privileged else you wont be able to edit them.

4. Check unwanted add-ons in internet explorer and Firefox or chrome

Check with all browser,if it is browser specific issues then chances that your browser is infected, update your browser and check and remove unnecessary add-on and extensions.

a) Search for unwanted add-on or toolbar in your browser and uninstall any suspicious add-on and restart your browser to see if the problem still exist.
b) You can uninstall toolbar from control panel > 'Add and Remove program' option.
c) In Internet Explorer Tools->Manage Add-ons.
d) In Google Chrome Customize > options > extensions.

Undoubtedly, the Windows 7 taskbar helps the user to an extent more than what meets the eye.
Here, we unveil a new utilization feature of the Windows 7 taskbar. Often, some programs and shortcuts to various applications are pinned to the taskbar for easy accessibility. However, sometimes for reasons concerning privacy and confidentiality, the user may want to hide these icons so that other users logging into his computer do not have access to his private applications or programs. We’ll now plow on the process to achieve this useful tweak.

To start with, the icon that needs to be hidden should remain invisible at the taskbar with only the creator knowing its perfect location and the authority to view and access it. We, here, take Mozilla Firefox as an example to the program that requires to be hidden. On completing the following procedure, your taskbar will contain Mozilla Firefox as a launch up program while keeping it invisible to anyone who logs on to your computer.

(It should be in the folder “Mozilla Firefox” in the “Programs” folder of the directory where Mozilla is installed). Select the file “firefox.exe” file and click “Open”.
2. The Resource Hacker wizard opens up. Select “Icon” and then click on the “Action” tab on the menu-bar. Select “Replace Icon“.
3. The “Replace Icon in” window appears. Select “1″ in the right pane of the window under the tag “Select icon to replace” and then click to “Open file with new Icon…“.
4. Navigate to “C:\Windows\System32\” and click on “shell32.dll” to open it.
5. On clicking “Open” a list of icons appear under the tag “Select new icon“. Select the icon number 52. Then click to “Replace”.
You will be notified that the icon has been replaced.
To proceed, you have to replace a second set of icons. Select “Open” under “File” menu. On asking whether to save your work, select “NO“, as the task is not completed yet. Follow the steps 1 to 5 once again with the exception that in step 3, this time, Select “32512″ in the right pane of the window under the tag “Select icon to replace”. Follow the remaining steps as you have done previously.
Save the file you have just created by pressing Ctrl+S to the installed program folder of Mozilla Firefox (in the folder “Mozilla Firefox” in the “Programs” folder of the directory where Mozilla is installed).
Exit Resource Hacker.
The new file created “firefox.exe” can be visualized when you open the folder where Mozilla is installed. This file does not have an icon, or more technically, the icon of this file is invisible. The original Firefox execution file still remains within the folder with it being renamed to “firefox_original.exe”. Now, right click on the file “firefox.exe” and select “Pin to taskbar”.
To the right of the pinned programs on the taskbar, appears a section which, on hovering your mouse pointer over it, displays “firefox.exe – Shortcut”. You have just created a secret invisible icon in your Windows 7 taskbar. Drag this section to the extreme left of the taskbar to the right of the “Start” button.
Your taskbar remains just as it was before you created this invisible icon. None, but you know the exact location of this icon. Your privacy gets boosted up with an increased accessibility option.

Internet Access In Backtrack Virtual Machine

I’ve found that some people are struggling hard to access internet in there backtrack virtual machine from their USB Modem, so today I am going to tell you how you can access internet in your virtual machine by your datacard.

Open Network Adapter Settings ( Run -> ncpa.cpl )

Right Click on your USB Modem Adapter and go to properties.

Now go to Sharing Tab and check the option ‘Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet Connection’. Click OK if anything pops up. Now Select Home Networking connection as‘Local Area Network 3’. Click on Yes or OK if anything pops up.

Now Connect to internet with your USB modem and fire up your Backtrack in your VMware.

Put the network card of your backtrack in NAT mode.

Now open up the Terminal/Konsole and enter the commands.

Ifconfig eth0 up

Now enter the second command

ifconfig eth0 192.168.137.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0

xxx could be any number between 2 and 254.

Now enter the third command:

route add default gw 192.168.137.1

Now enter the fourth and last command:

echo “nameserver 192.168.137.1” > /etc/resolv.conf

Now open up your firefox you will be able to access internet in your virtual machine.

What Should be your Main Focus in Blogging

The main focus should always be to provide quality content to your readers. If your main focus is money right now then put it aside in your mind. Focus on the quality of your content and riches will come automatically.
Always try to evolve and learn from senior bloggers. No matter what, there is no replacement for experience. They have ton of experience and you can replicate their success (or even outperform) if you mix their inputs with your own ideas.

What will YOU do when Windows Wont Boot?
I’m sure that you like myself, use your computer for many different reasons such as: listening to music, watching movies, checking email, working and more. When Windows won’t boot, it seems as your entire life flashes in front of your eyes!
I have combined six of the most common problems that can cause your computer not to boot. Try these steps whenever you experience this problem with your computer(s):

#1. Inspect your adapter or power cord - Windows Wont Boot

When Windows wont boot, I always check the power cord located on back of the computer (desktops). When my laptop doesn’t boot, I always look at the power adapter first, To ensure the connection is correct both into the wall, and the cord from the wall plugging into the unit. You may be thinking… “DUH”, but you would not believe the vast majority of people who have non-booting computers simply due to a loose cord! Once you have verified power is flowing into your PC, you can proceed to checking the next thing.

#2. Inspect your power supply’s voltage switch

Another possibility to troubleshoot when Windows wont boot up, is checking the voltage of the power unit. Power supplies have voltage switches that can be changed to the appropriate voltage for your region of the planet. For instance, here in North America, we used the 115V option, while in Europe and its surrounding areas, you need to use the 230V option. Boot up Any Computer, Fix & Install Windows Easy.
Believe it or not, I have seen several instances where a customer would contact us to “repair” their computer, only to realize ONE minute after arriving to the person’s location, the voltage switch needs to be changed and nothing else! #3. Are you seeing anything on the monitor?

The first thing you naturally do when troubleshooting a computer problem, is looking at your monitor. Let’s get a little more involved in paying attention to the monitor (or screen), in this case. Do you see anything at all on the monitor or is it “black”? Do you see the “power light” illuminating? Is it blinking? Is it green colored or amber colored?

NOTE: a blinking power light on a monitor indicates several things not limited to: the monitor is either in hibernation/sleep mode, is disconnected from the video output, or has the incorrect resolution set. Would you guess that many people complain that Windows wont boot up, only to find that the monitor was either not powered on, or wasn’t plugged into the computer properly!
In summary, always pay attention to what clues your monitor may be leaving you, when troubleshooting.

#4. Do you hear or see any fans spinning, or lights blinking?

When you turn on your computer, are any of the fans spinning or even the power light blinking? Does the computer’s hard drive activity light blink to show activity? If you notice no fans spinning,and there is no hard drive movement (which you can either listen for, or check by looking at the disk activity light on the PC), you may have a hardware related issue, or there may be an issue with your power connection (cord/adapter), or your surge protector, or your AC outlet (or a combination of all these).
Before you panic thinking Windows wont boot up, check your power cords first, since they are usually the reason for computers that don’t power up successfully. When your PC has no fan movement, is making no sounds, and otherwise won’t boot; there is a hardware issue that should be inspected by a professional or experienced technician to avoid further damage.

#5. Pay close attention to (pretty loud) beeping sounds

When Windows Wont Boot and you have problems with your computer that is detected by the BIOS (Basic Input Output System), there will be a series of beeping sounds, immediately after turning on your PC. You might see a black screen on your computer along with the beeping sounds when you try to power up the computer. Beep codes vary in the intervals and duration of the beeping, but any beeping sounds that doesn’t occur normally (such as a quick beep upon booting), that ALWAYS spells a hardware issue that needs to be addressed.
Common reasons for hearing these beeps can consist of (but isn’t limited to):

Bad memory (RAM)
An overheating computer
A processor (CPU) that is going bad or has already failed
Incompatible BIOS settings (Setup Menu settings)
Add-on card(s) (PCI card) needing to be connected tighter (video cards)

A general rule of thumb is to stay tuned to any beeping when you power up your computer. You will only hear the “problem beeps” when a problem exists that needs to be fixed, so make sure that you don’t throw away or misplace your computer owner’s manual (or motherboard owner’s manual); it will come in handy when you need help figuring out those dreaded beeps!

#6. Does your computer power on but doesn’t load Windows successfully

Shortly after turning on your computer, do you see a logo at all? Computers all go through a POST; also know as a Power On Self Test, when they are booted. At this stage, a computer detects all of the hardware needed to function, as well as other checks to ensure proper operation. During POST, you can usually just see a logo and text on the screen, usually in multiple colors or white. If you get to this screen, your computer is at least booting – CONGRATS! There are ways to fix boot errors by using POST to diagnose the problem.
If your PC doesn’t get past the POST screen, and either gets “caught” before, after or during the Windows logo showing, it has booted but Windows hasn’t loaded. If your computer restarts, shuts down, freezes on a black or gray screen, or BSODs (blue screens), your problem is software (Windows) related, and not necessarily hardware related. When a computer has a software problem, it can usually be fixed by an experienced person, without the need to order expensive hardware.
Did you know that if you have a Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc and Windows will not start at all, you can run “start-up repair” if you experience this problem? Also, if you have Windows XP, there is a “repair installation” function that will allow you to easily repair your computer to load Windows successfully! If you don’t have the installation disc for your operating system, you can either borrow one or let an experienced person take a look at it to decipher the problem.

1. Go to any Youtube video that you want the Youtube URL for.
2. Look below the Youtube video to see a row of buttons.
3. Press on the share button.
4. The Youtube URL will appear in a box. See the screen shot below.
5. Select the are Youtube URL by making it blue.

6. Right click your mouse on the blue area and a menu will appear.

8. Now you can paste the Youtube URL where you want to put it.

When you make a group of videos and upload them to Youtube, it is always a good idea to create a Youtube video playlist. This will make it easy for people to view one video and then move onto the next as they will be grouped together. There’s too many ways for an virus to get on your computer for you to try to guard against all of them, so the first step you take to secure your computer should be to install good anti-virus software.
But even more important than installing the anti-virus software is keeping it updated. Most anti-virus software will update itself—just make sure you don’t disable updating in the configuration or go too long without connecting to the Internet.

Safety Computer Tips #2: Beware Downloading

The easiest way for hackers to install malware (bad programs) on your computer is by convincing you to install them yourself. Most malware on the Web hides as small but useful-sounding programs. For example, new screen savers, new chat applications, and minor desktop improvements.
The software you thought you were installing quietly installs a few extra programs you didn’t ask for. Some of these programs display ads, some of them report details about your computer to hackers, some of them may even open ports—short for portals—that allow hackers to access your computer.
It’s hard to tell which software is legitimate and which software is genuinely useful, but if you have any doubt about a program, it’s best left uninstalled.

Safety Computer Tips #3: Don’t Trust Email

Do you trust your mother? Of course you do, so why wouldn’t you download the attachment she sent you in her latest email?
Viruses know that people trust their friends and family, and they often exploit this by sending rouge emails containing viruses to unsuspecting users. It’s not that your mother would ever intentionally try to infect your computer with a virus—she doesn’t know the attachment she sent you contains a virus.
A specific type of hacker called phisers also use fake emails from respected Internet companies to try to get your passwords. After they get your password, they’ll try to use it to empty your online bank accounts.
All of this means only one thing: don’t trust email. Don’t download attachments unless they’re in in a safe file format. Don’t click on links in your email and enter your password. With the state of email today, it’s ok to be a little paranoid. There are a few things for you to do to try and stop spam emails, but again it takes common sense mostly.

Safety Computer Tips #4: Investigate

Is there something goofy about your computer? Is it running slow? Are you getting strange error messages? Is your ISP complaining that you’re sending too many emails?
All of these problems need to be investigated. Viruses often use your computer processing power for evil, making your computer run slow. Viruses often try to hide among other programs, causing strange error messages. Viruses often send spam emails, making your ISP complain.
If you see a problem, start investigating it and don’t stop until you figure out what the problem was. Otherwise you risk letting a small virus install bigger, worse viruses.

Safety Computer Tips #5: Restrict Administrative Access

In a household or office where many people share computers, everyone is at the mercy of everyone else. No matter how safe you try to keep your computer, anyone else with administrator access can install a virus-infected program.
In these multi-user environments, it pays to restrict administrator access to only the users who know how to keep the computer safe. In fact, I suggest you create just one administrator account for each computer and then give every user their own non-administrator account.
Only when you need to install a program or change a setting should you use the administrator account. For everything else, you should use your own user account. This helps avoid the situation where you accidentally leave your administrator account logged in and the next person on the computer uses it to accidentally download a virus.

A couple weeks ago shortly after a thunderstorm, I heard fire sirens down the street from my house. There had been a giant nearby bolt of lightning and the power was still out, so I went to investigate—one of my neighbors’ houses was on fire. It was tragic.

I don’t know how much they lost, but it made me think of what I’d lose if my own house caught fire. I realized that many of the things I’d miss most were stored on my computer. So, as soon as the power returned, I double-checked that my backups were still running as expected. I checked all my external hard drives and other backup storage devices I use.

Safety Computer Tips #7: Watch Your Kids

Kids these days grow up with the Internet, and that means they’re exposed to all of the Internet’s less savory aspects from an early age. It’s easy enough to install some parental control software and then assume that your kids are safe—but they’re not.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about kids, it’s that they’re ingenious little buggers. Worse, your kids probably know your computer better than you do. No mere technology is going to stop them from getting into trouble.
The best way to keep your kids safe is to watch them when they browse the Internet. That may sound hard, but it can be quite easy—just put the family computer in the room where you or your spouse spend most of your time—for example, the kitchen or the living room.
You may also want to check the kid’s Web browser logs, but beware—if the kids know you do this, they’ll find ways of removing entries. A better method would be to check the hostname access logs on your router, but again, a crafty kid will eventually figure out how to fool even that.

Safety Computer Tips #8: Different Sites, Different Passwords

You’ve probably grown used to reading in computer news how such-and-such big site has been hacked and all of its usernames and passwords were stolen. It may not seem terribly important—after all, most sites don’t store any financial information.
But hackers know that most people use the same username and password for different websites. John Smith very likely uses the same password for his Yahoo! email account that he does for his PayPal account. Minutes after breaking into Smith’s email account, the hackers could use PayPal to empty his bank account.
Each site you use should have a different password—or, at the very least, you should use a different password for each site with access to your financial information. Protecting your online accounts is extremely important so do not neglect this!

Safety Computer Tips #9: Encrypt Sensitive Files

Even if you work really hard at avoiding viruses and other malware, you should prepare yourself for the chance that one will make it onto your computer any way. Backups protect your files from being deleted, but what protects your sensitive files from hackers?
The only thing that can protect your sensitive files is encryption. Higher-end versions of Windows include encryption, but you can also download a free encryption utility that provides just as much security (if not more—Microsoft is under pressure by some governments to put a “back door” into their encryption.)
To secure your files against hackers and other prying eyes, I suggest the free TrueCrypt encryption software.

Safety Computer Tips #10: Firewall

There’s a big difference between good and bad anti-virus software, but the same isn’t true of firewall software. Even the free firewall that comes with all recent versions of Windows will fully protect your computer against automatic network virus attacks. Just make sure you turn it on in the control panel.
If your anti-virus software comes with a firewall, I suggest you use that instead—not because it’s better, but because it will probably be easier for you to use. And keeping things simple is its own safety computer tips.

A Microsoft word document cannot be simply opened in Photoshop. Word documents are saved in .doc or .docx file formats which are not compatible with Photoshop. Photoshop deals with .psd, .jpeg, .gif, and other various image file formats. This is probably a strange tutorial as I usually talk about cutting out images using Photoshop.

Why would you want to open a Word Document in Photoshop?

You can do so many things on a computer, however people always want to do something that is not always possible. Here are a few reasons I can think of why you would want to open a word document in Photoshop:

You might want to open a document full of pictures in Photoshop to edit them more professionally
Maybe you want to split the Word document up into layers to enable better editing.
You might want to use some special features in Photoshop that are not available in Microsoft Word.

How do you open a Word document in Photoshop

The only logical way I can see to open a word document in Photoshop is to use take a screenshot of the document, save it as a jpeg, and then open it in Photoshop.

You will need:

Microsoft Word.
A keyboard with a Print Screen key.
The Mspaint program. (Comes with Windows)
Photoshop.

How to get your Word document into Photoshop?

Open your Word document.
Go to see a print preview for the document so it will fit on the screen fully. Go to the file menu for Word 2003 or the office symbol for Word 2007. You will see print preview in these menus.
When you see your full page press the prtscrn key on your keyboard.
Open the mspaint program by going down to the start menu, all programs, accessories, then paint.
Go to the edit menu at the top and choose paste.
You will see a picture of the word document. Go to the file menu at the top and choose Save As.
Mspaint will save the screenshot as an image file. I prefer .jpeg. Please remember where you are saving the file.
Then open Photoshop, open the file that you saved.
