Is Samsung’s Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 ICS update will be in the Philippines this March 10? I’ve mentioned on my recent post that Samsung Israel have announced the update to be available by 15th of the month but recent news today reveals that Samsung Philippines have announced that the said much awaited Android update will be available for S2 users this 10th of March.

I tried to check the said “news alert” from Samsung Philippines’ official website and found the following from searching it (here’s the link  of the mentioned search result) but when I tried to click the result, it shows a blank result.

However, Samsung Philippines already prepared a FAQ page on how to update your Samsung Galaxy S2 to the latest ICS OS which you can find HERE. This only mean, that I just need to wait less than a day to have the ICS on my phone.

I will let you know guys if I already update my S2 and will give you a snapshots of the Android 4.0. LATER!

Update: Samsung Philippines made an announcement regarding the March 10th and its not good news for those Philippines S2 users. Here’s the message from their Facebook page:

I regret to inform you that due to the extended period we need for testing the ICS upgrade for Galaxy S II, we will be moving the release date. This is to ensure that no problems will be encountered on the phone after the upgrade. I am so sorry about the inconvenience but rest assured that we will keep you all posted on the confirmed release date.

In the end, there’s no fixed date yet to release the much awaited ICS update. Waiting game again…

I’ve been waiting for the ICS update of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and recent news reveals that it will be coming this March 15 as the Q1 promise by Samsung. But this news was revealed by Samsung Israel on their Facebook page. Here’s the said message from the page:

We promised that we’re working on it. You waited patiently. On 15 March it comes: the Android version 4, ICS, tens of thousands of device purchased Galaxy S2 cellular companies in the country directly from us. We here are very excited for the launch, hope you enjoy it.

But it is not clear if this update will be available worldwide but it is sure that once the ICS update drops on their website, it will surely be available and ready to be installed on our S2 units.

I hope that this Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS update will be available here in the Philippines. I’m excited already with the new Android on my phone. There’s an unofficial release of the ICS but I will still wait patiently for the official one. I’m afraid that I might break the phone if I made a slight mistake so its better to wait patiently. It’s couple of days from now so just humming the phrase “patience is a virtue.”

By the way, for Samsung Galaxy Tab user, sorry to say this but don’t expect ICS update for your gadget for  Samsung said that they will not release ICS updates for their Galaxy Tab.

If you have a dedicated server or a VPS with CentOS and wants to make the server performance much better than your current with your WordPress sites, then you might want to try to make use of the memcached feature of W3 Total Cache. Nah, you should not immediately go to settings of the plug-in for you can’t enable it yet until you install memcached on your server. So read on to find out on how to install memcached on CentOS and memcache PHP extension.

Memcached is a high-performance, distributed memory object caching system, generic in nature, but originally intended for use in speeding up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load.

1. Install MEMCACHED via yum. Make sure to enable rpmforge respository using the following command to let you use yum to install the latest version of memcached.For i386 / i686

   rpm -Uhv http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/i386/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm

   For x86_64

   rpm -Uhv http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/x86_64/rpmforge/RPMS//rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.x86_64.rpm

   Use yum to install memcached

   yum -y install memcached

2. After memcached is successfully installed, configure it. Use the following to edit the memcached configuration.

   vi /etc/sysconfig/memcached

   The following shows the sample configuration that you can modify based on your needs.

   PORT="11211"                #define on which port to urn
   USER="nobody"           #same as apache user
   MAXCONN="1024"     #maximum number of connections allowed
   CACHESIZE="64"         #memory used for caching
   OPTIONS="-l 127.0.0.1"                   #use for any custom options

   On the last line OPTIONS=”-l 127.0.0.1″ – this should be placed to make sure that memcached is only accessible via your server only and other external sites can’t access it for security reasons.

   Save the configuration and you can start memcached via:

   /etc/init.d/memcached start

   If you want to check if memcached is running or not, use the following command.

   /etc/init.d/memcached status

3. Next thing you need to do is to install the PHP extension. You need to download the latest stable version of memcache via PECL (http://pecl.php.net/package/memcache). In my case I use memcache 2.2.6. The following commands download the said version and install the memcache extension.

   cd /usr/local/src
   wget http://pecl.php.net/get/memcache-2.2.6.tgz
   tar zxvf memcache-2.2.6.tgz
   cd memcache-2.2.6
   phpize
   ./configure
   make
   make install

   After you execute these commands, memcache.so will be installed in PHP modules directory. The next step will be enabling it in php.ini.

   To find out your php.ini location, execute following command

   php -i | grep php.ini

   You’ll see the following output:

   Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /usr/local/lib
   Loaded Configuration File => /usr/local/lib/php.ini

   After determining the PHP configuration file location, edit it using:

   vi /usr/local/lib/php.ini

   Then add the following in the configuration near other extension declarations.

   extension = "memcache.so"

   Save the file and restart httpd server.

   /etc/init.d/httpd restart

   If you want to check if memcache extension was loaded successfully in php, just execute following command.

   php -i | grep memcache

   You’ll see some message containing memcache messages.

4. If everything goes well with these steps, you can now go to W3 Total Cache and configure Page Cache, Browser Cache, Minify Cache to use “Memcached” option instead of the “Disk: Basic” or “Disk: Enhanced” to enable memcache on your site.

Enjoy now the new great performance of your site using memcache.

The other day, PR for my sites just turn to N/A. I am using the Google Chrome extension to view the PR of the site that I am visiting. I thought I lost PageRank for all of my site but when I check on Facebook, Google and other sites, the same N/A PR is displayed. So I did some Google searching and found out that Google made some changes on their Google toolbar and so what I did is I install the Google toolbar on internet explorer. Then I can view the PR after that.

Next is I updated the SEOQuake Firefox add-on and made some revisions as recommended by http://www.elevatelocal.co.uk/blog/fixing-seoquake-pagerank-check-06105097.

To summarize what the site recommended to fix SEOQuake on FF, here’s the following steps:

1. Go to SEOQuake Preferences window. Just right click the bar then SEOQuake->Preferences.
2. Then under PARAMETERS, you’ll see a Google pagerank option. Edit it and you will see the following line:

[URL_R]=http://toolbarqueries.google.com/search?client=navclient-auto&ch={gchecksum}&features=Rank&q=info:{url|encode}

3. Replace the search keyword from the line with tbr. So it should be like the following:

[URL_R]=http://toolbarqueries.google.com/tbr?client=navclient-auto&ch={gchecksum}&features=Rank&q=info:{url|encode}

4. Restart your browser and you’ll see your PR is back.
