No, your eyes don’t deceive you. This one is indeed over two and a half hours long. So much gold in this issue. Kielen gets in his expected taunting of Scott Dally and the Blazers. Dan tells tales of the 2012 West Coast Beard & Mustache Championship. Plus, a quick talk about the Oscar picks that evolves into a conversation of music and moving on. Then, Aaron has the honor of talking with Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett about their newest work – Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention. Finally, Rick Emerson pays the guys a visit as they take a trip into the past with tales of first meetings and FCC fining. A big show. A great show. Nothing but the best for the finest audience in the world.

Greetings Programs. A special issue as we team-up with the ladies of Patioh-Patino at the yummy Random Order Bakery & Bar ( 1800 NE Alberta St). The show is like a high school dance. Lots of awkward comments and leaning against the wall in the beginning… To full blown boys and girls insanity at the end. Conversations about dating, deal-breakers, and why the ladies need to just lay their cards on the table when hitting on Geeks. All that, and tales of Dan and Kielen’s adventures in Centralia at the Ocracoke Pirate Fest. Thanks all for listening. Don’t forget – February 4th from 8pm to 8am – The Jupiter Hotel Presents the Geek in the City Marathon of Pain!

Missing the show in your player?!

Or… Hey, I haven’t seen a new show in weeks! What gives you slackers?!

What gives is, we had to do some digital housecleaning. Which is good, because it gave us all kinds of room for new and awesome shows. The bad? Well, it killed our old RSS feed. (That’s the thing that makes podcasts just appear in your iTunes or other audio player).

Thankfully, it’s freakishly easy to remedy this problem and get us back in your ear holes.

Open iTunes. Click on the “Advanced” tab. Click on “Subscribe to Podcast”. Copy / Paste this bit of url below:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/geekinthecity/nOVz

Hit “Ok” and you are good to go!

If you don’t have iTunes, I’m sure your personal podcast player has something similar, do the same there.

Thanks again. Sorry for any confusion or loss of glory this may have caused you. Now, on with the show.

Diablo III - D&D 5th Edition - Red Tails

There are good issues, “eh” issues, and damn fine issues. Number 143 is one of those Damn Fine Issues. After Kielen schools Aaron for still not playing more than 15 minutes of Modern Warfare 3, Dan delves deep into Diablo 3 as Scott and Aaron ask why the game has such a following. Then, Scott and Kielen regret asking Aaron just what the changes in D&D 5th Edition will mean to gamer and noobs. Also, Scott feels lamentations and hope over his Portland Trailblazers (yes, they’re Scott’s). Next, a heartfelt and sincere look back and thanks to Rick Emerson as he winds down to his final broadcast. Finally, a special installment of Fun With Race inspired by George Lucas, Red Tails, and ignorant jack-asses. Like I said, good show this week.

Don’t forget – Saturday February 4 – The Jupiter Hotel proudly presents the Geek in the City Radio Telethon of Pain – 8pm to 8am – Live!

2012 Preview - Fatale Comic Review - Fun With Race - Kaebel Hashitani

Greetings programs and welcome to 2012. We kick off the year with a review of Ed Brubaker’s newest comic Fatale in Pulling From Aaron’s Box. Then, a geeky preview from Dan, Scott, Kielen, Kaebel, & Aaron of what to expect in 2012 from movies, television, comics, music, and games. Then Kaebel Hashitani brings you the first, um, 1st Thursday of the year in Portland. Finally, a double-whammy Fun With Race as Sarah X Dylan asks Kielen the hard-hitting questions. All that, plus NBA trash talking and a reminder that only LeVar Burton can call himself Kunta.

Instead of a Best Of, we present the 3 thrilling episodes of the Adventures of the Crimson Mist!

Or… What listeners asked for instead of a Best Of.

As the year winds down, the crew at Geek in the City Radio took a much needed vacation / in-service day to rest and plan the epic for 2012.

Personally, as I look back on the year and go through older projects, I keep coming back to The Adventures of the Crimson Mist. I know A.Z. got all the glory and headlines, but for me, it was Crimson Mist that stole my heart. My love for the pulp genre of superhero storytelling is well known and these 3 episodes were my attempt to emulate this era of high adventure.

If the day ever comes where we return to these audio dramas, it is Crimson Mist that will pull at me the hardest. (Sorry zombie fans).

My deepest thanks to everyone involved in these grand adventures. The list is too long. Thankfully, each episode ends in an all-new corrected credit sequence! (Hey, it was live radio, things happen).

Thanks again and I hope you enjoy these shows. And, if any of you Dark Horse Comics or Oni Press listeners are turning in (and I know you are), you know you need some good old fashioned two-fisted hometown pulp tales. Drop us a line. We’re ready to roll!

The Adventures of the Crimson Mist – Episode 1 – The Case of the Missing Professor – DOWNLOAD

The Adventures of the Crimson Mist – Episode 2 – The Curse of the Copper Cobra – DOWNLOAD

The Adventures of the Crimson Mist – Episode 3 – Double Down and Die – DOWNLOAD

The return of a Christmas Classic - For the 1st in stereo!

In 2005 Clyde Lewis and Aaron Duran scripted and produced a special radio drama presentation of a short story written by Jim Covill and Clyde Lewis. This radio drama became known as Yes Virginia, There is an Anti-Claus. A twisted telling of the Christmas myth; mixed with Christian prophecy, paranormal history, and tasteless jokes. The show quickly became a cult hit. Even more so when Entercom fired Clyde (and Aaron, 2 days before they hired him as Clyde’s paid producer, thanks for that).

Although the show has poked out it’s disturbed head from time to time, never has it sounded this good. Long thought lost, the original audio master files were found covered in Cheeto dust and a pile of empty Dr. Pepper bottles. Geek in the City and Clyde Lewis are proud to present to you, the original Yes Virginia, There is an Anti-Claus in glorious stereo for the very first time. ( I know, even back in the day this audio explosion was compressed in a crappy AM mono-mix).

Each voice and character was performed by Clyde Lewis and Aaron Duran. Yes, for good or bad, these maniacs performed every friggen voice (and even a song). The rest of the songs performed by the following:

Christmas Night of the Living Dead – MxPx

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year – InMemory

I Won’t Be Home For Christmas – Blink 182

I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus – Standstill

Randolph the Red Assed Baboon – Clyde Lewis & Aaron Duran

Christmas at Ground Zero - Weird Al Yankovic

So, pour some Egg Nog and Whiskey, roast some <del>children</del> chestnuts, and enjoy Yes Virginia, There is an Anti-Claus.

Greetings Programs. Heck of a show this week ‘o gentle listener. First, Aaron throws in the towel on he and Dan‘s Buffalo Bills bet. Then, Greg Nibler and Sarah X Dylan of Funemployment Radio join the show and talk about their adventures at OMSI as they watched the Dark Knight Rises prologue! Then, a very special Dally Demands as Scott returns to the films that first inspired his early review days. Also, a double Fun With Race that asks some serious questions… But only has Kielen and the crew to answer. All that and a celebration of Sarah’s debut on the Biography Channel… And… The biggest event in 2012 that isn’t the Mayan Apocalypse (or the Geek in the City Telethon of Pain brought to you by the Jupiter Hotel)… Geek in the City Radio and Funemployment Radio present 9 hours of Batman with – Batman Begins – The Dark Knight – and the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises. More details in the coming months. Ah yeah.

Greetings Programs! This week, we’re joined by Lisa and Brian Wood of Big Ass Sandwiches as they talk about their stunningly awesome food and their 2 year anniversary celebration. Happening this Saturday, December 10 at the Wonder Ballroom – Starring Ron Funchens, Ian Carmel, Brian Posehn, and Red Fang! Get your tickets now! Then, a very special guest pops in and forces Aaron to sit under the table. Marvel’s The Defenders takes center stage on Pulling From Aaron’s Box. All that, and Scott and Kielen continue their taunting of Dan and Aaron about the well-meaing (if wholly horrible) Buffalo Bills.

Finally – Yes – You heard correctly. On Saturday February 4, 2012 – The Jupiter Hotel presents the 12-Hour Geek in the City Radio Telethon of Pain. Keep tuning in for details.

Thanks for listening.
