The Amazing Spider-Man is giving the franchise a bit of  a reboot later this summer (release date is July 4th 2012 for Ireland and the UK)

Here’s the general overview:

One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man™.  Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field.  The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.  Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theatres everywhere in 3D.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field).  Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today.  Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets.  As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner.  As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

May 21st will see the very last episode of House airing on Fox (in the US).

Dr Gregory House will no longer grace our screens.

So what next for Hugh Laurie?

Scarlett Johansson & Matt Damon in We Bought A Zoo

We Bought A Zoo is a highly enjoyable film and I’d happily recommend it.

Yes, it’s a bit of a “feelgood” movie, but it’s not too mawkish – or maybe I’ve got a higher resistance to soppy film storylines these days.

Matt Damon stars as a widower left with two kids. Things aren’t going too well on the family front and he decides to move his family to a new house and a new town. However his choice of property turns out to come with a couple of strings attached – it’s a rundown zoo.

For the rest of the film Damon struggles with getting the zoo back up and running again, while resisting the temptation to fall for one of his staff (Scarlett Johansson), dealing with his kids and coming to grips with his wife’s death.

The film is based on the book by Benjamin Mee where he recounts his real experiences of buying and opening Dartmoor Zoological Park in England.

It’s still showing in Irish cinemas, though it’s already available to rent via iTunes in the US.

Angelina Jolie in the Bone Collector

The Bone Collector, starring Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington is going to be shown on Channel 5 in the next couple of weeks.

Why do I mention this?

Probably because it was one of the first movies starring Angelina Jolie where she completely took over the screen and left me mesmerized.

It’s also a pretty good film and is reasonably loyal to the book on which it is based.

Colin Farrell stars in Columbia Pictures' "Total Recall."

Remember the Total Recall remake starring Colin Farrell? Well the trailer is out this week.. so we now have the rather odd situation of a teaser trailer for the actual trailer..

Whatever happened to the “good old days” when you had a trailer then a film release?

Maybe the studios are trying to hype the hype?

Warner Brothers are officially opening their tour in the UK this week.

Since the UK was the location for so much of the filming of the Harry Potter films the tour will be firmly centred around the boy wizard.
