&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Um destes dias vi o Miguel Sousa
Tavares a atacar o acordo ortográfico com o argumento do património histórico.
Acho que este argumento não é bom, mesmo que até concorde com a sua conclusão.
Vou explicar as minhas razões:&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Em primeiro lugar legislar por
políticos sobre uma língua é tão estranho – ou devia ser – como se os políticos
se reunissem em assembleia para legislar sobre o que é e como se faz ciência.
Desde quando é que um acordo precisa de ser decidido pelos políticos? A língua
é um ramo do saber, não resultado de leis impostas aos falantes dessa língua.
Do mesmo modo que a ciência, uma língua evolui pelo seu uso e estudo, pela
descoberta. Mas em Portugal precisamos de regulamentos para tudo e toca lá a
fazer leis que ditem como havemos de escrever. Isto é reduzir as gramáticas e
prontuários ortográficos a meros resultados funcionais da língua, subsidiários
das leis. Um destes dias vamos substituir a disciplina de português nas escolas
para passar a&amp;nbsp; ensinar aos miúdos
qualquer coisa como Direito da Língua, ou da ortografia.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;O argumento do MST não colhe pois se assim
fosse teríamos de preservar na nossa cultura muitas coisas parvas somente
porque é tradição. Assim, em vez de irmos ao médico quando nos dói a barriga, fazíamos
umas rezas malucas só porque é tradição. Em vez de termos cuidado com a
instalação eléctrica da casa quando troveja, acendíamos velas e rezávamos a
deus pelo castigo que nos estava a dar atirando relâmpagos cá para baixo (a
minha avó pensava assim por mais que eu lhe tentasse explicar o ciclo da água).&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;De facto, o acordo não é nenhum
acordo, mas não porque uma língua é um património. Ela é, mas não deixa de ser
um saber e enquanto tal é orgânica, está sujeita a mutações. Mas essas mutações
vem do seu estudo e uso e não de acordos que, afinal de contas, nem são bem
acordos.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Todas as bibliotecas ficaram, de
repente, desactualizadas e isto vai ser assim durante umas gerações, até que se
traduzam todos os livros para o novo acordo. Ou seja, dentro da mesma cultura
linguística, ficamos durante gerações e gerações com duas ortografias. Onde está,
então, o acordo?&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Já tivemos tantos acordos depois
de Eça de Queiroz (um dos exemplos consagrados da boa escrita em Português,
tomado como padrão no ensino, pelo menos no meu tempo de estudante de
secundário e creio que ainda o é hoje em dia) que praticamente não o
conseguimos ler tal como ele escreveu e temos de o traduzir para o português
pós acordos ortográficos. Portanto, temos várias ortografias dentro da mesma
língua. Pode haver quem pense que isto é mesmo assim, em resultado da evolução
de uma língua. Correcto, mas que necessidade existe de potenciar essas mudanças
com leis e impondo às pessoas um modo de escrever diferente daquele que até
aprenderam como padrão?&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Depois para que um acordo fosse
mesmo um acordo seria necessário mudar toda a semântica de uma língua, enfim,
toda a cultura de uma só vez, já que palavras escritas da mesma maneira
continuam a ter significados bem diferentes em Lisboa, Rio de Janeiro ou
Luanda.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Ainda há um outro argumento que
li no pequeno livro do Malaca Casteleiro da Porto Editora, sobre o acordo. O
argumento de que o acordo aproxima a ortografia à fonética. Mas se assim fosse
por que não fazer uma fonética para cada região de Portugal já que temos tantas
fonéticas diferentes? Por exemplo, “piloto”, na madeira passava a escrever-se “pilhoto”.
“Vaca” passaria a escrever-se “Baca” no Porto e, já agora, “a gente vai”
passaria em Lisboa a expressar-se “a gente vamos”.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;Finalmente, temos exemplos óbvios
de outras línguas que nunca precisaram de acordos para viverem em paz com duas
ortografias. O inglês é hoje mais que nunca a língua em que se expressa a alta
cultura do nosso tempo, desde a ciência, filosofia, tecnologia, literatura,
etc. e o inglês dos EUA tem uma ortografia com muitas diferenças do inglês de
Inglaterra e daí não se segue qualquer necessidade de acordos ortográficos.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;De modo que, a meu ver, mais uma
vez o acordo só serve os interesses de pequenos grupos e o povo cai nessa
emboscada que nem tansos, com o convénio de muitos professores de português que
acham isso muito natural. O que seria natural numa cultura robusta, era as
pessoas pensarem sobre a própria língua e o seu uso ortográfico em vez de
ficarem reféns de decisões que mais não passam de bacanais de lobbys e
interesses.&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&lt;span style="font-size: large;"&gt;São estas as razões que me fazem
pensar que o acordo ortográfico acarreta maiores confusões para a língua e não
havia necessidade de mexer no que estava bem. &amp;nbsp;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

ler este autor por sugestão de alguns amigos e tenho todos os livros dele
lidos. O primeiro capítulo prendeu logo a atenção já que, mais uma vez, são
evidentes as preocupações do autor pelo estatuto epistemológico da ciência,

Ainda com tiques de linguagem algo técnica em algumas passagens, tornando por vezes o texto denso, a verdade é que o pequeno manual apresenta algumas concepções baseadas na bibliografia mais respeitada do problema. Entre elas, as concepções de Rawls e Nozick. Vale a pena espreitar. A edição é das Ed. 70. N&lt;span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"&gt;uma aula do 11º ano, hoje ao fim da tarde, pretendi mostrar
um argumento válido, mas com premissas menos plausíveis que a conclusão. Uma
das premissas gerou uma discussão ainda algo desorganizada, mas muito
interessante. A premissa indicava que “a vida é sagrada”. Um aluno chegou a
apresentar uma ideia engenhosa: “a vida é tão sagrada para um crente como para
um muçulmano ter mais que uma mulher também é sagrado”. As teses dividiram-se
para discutir a premissa. Ao passo que alguns alunos defenderam que a premissa
é sempre verdadeira, invocando que em causa está sempre em primeiro lugar a
preservação da vida, outros achavam que a premissa não pode ser dada como
verdadeira. Nesta animada discussão filosófica pouco pude intervir a não ser
para gerir a discussão em alguns momentos de maior intensidade. Mas fica aqui o
registo para reflexão para os meus alunos. Obviamente que para um crente
católico não é difícil encarar a premissa como verdadeira. Mas como é que
podemos pensar que a vida é sagrada se não nos importamos com as formigas que
todos os dias pisamos e matamos, com os porcos e vacas que comemos nas nossas
refeições, com o fiambre das nossas sandwichs, etc..? Pelo menos temos de
reformular a premissa deste modo: “ a vida de alguns seres humanos é sagrada”.
Será que assim a premissa fica verdadeira? Não deixa de ser de observar que se pode ler no preâmbulo das orientações de exame que o programa de filosofia dá total liberdade aos professores para leccionarem os conteúdos que queiram desde que respeitem os temas, pelo que para a realização de exame tem de se vincular conteúdos. Ora cabe a questão para quando a reforma do programa e trabalha-se os conteúdos de uma só vez sem ter de elaborar documentos avulsos que nos chegam às mãos já o comboio vai em andamento?&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;

sobre a excelência que traduz também um bom argumento em defesa da excelência.
Creio que é um bom mote para pensar, quer para pais, estudantes, professores e

anos, definiu a procura da excelência no apoio à cultura como «chegar ao
conhecimento, no que concerne todos os assuntos que mais nos interessam, do
melhor que foi pensado e dito no mundo, e, através deste conhecimento, deixar
fluir o pensamento novo e livre sobre as nossas noções e hábitos comuns». Matthew
Arnold era inspector das escolas, um grande defensor do ensino superior, e
acreditava na excelência do ensino como forma não apenas de prover a economia
de pessoal habilitado como também de produzir uma sociedade culta que pusesse
em prática o ideal referido na máxima aristotélica acerca da utilização culta
do nosso lazer.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Da China à França, todo o país que é
ou aspira a ser desenvolvido tem um estrato educacional de elite que visa
receber os estudantes mais dotados e oferecer-lhes a melhor formação
intelectual possível. Na China, isto é feito desde tenra idade, havendo escolas
especiais para as crianças mais inteligentes. Na França, o sistema das Hautes
Écoles — universidades superiores o acesso às quais é ferozmente competitivo —
selecciona os espíritos excepcionais e submete-os a uma disciplina rigorosa. Em
todos os casos, o objectivo é realçar os melhores, por forma a obter a melhor
qualidade nos domínios da ciência, da engenharia, do direito, na administração
pública, na medicina e nas artes.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Poucas pessoas poderão colocar
objecções à base racional que se encontra por detrás disto. Exceptuam-se
aquelas para quem a mediocridade universal constitui um preço que merece a pena
pagar pela igualdade social. Mas há um perigo em que os meios meritocráticos
para o cultivo da excelência podem incorrer: é como se, após o estabelecimento
dos meios, o mérito, por si só, deixe de bastar, assumindo-se o dinheiro e a
influência como critérios suplementares. Em muitos dos países do mundo — talvez
a maioria —, o dinheiro e a influência são determinadores da progressão social,
mesmo nos locais onde vigoram igualmente os critérios meritocráticos: na
América, é necessário dinheiro para se obter vantagens sociais; na China, ajuda
ser membro do Partido.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Os ricos e bem relacionados não
constituem o tipo de elite que um sistema educativo deveria encorajar. É fácil,
para os jornais sensacionalistas e os políticos populistas, fazer uso
pejorativo do termo «elite» para designar estas elites da injustiça — mas estes
são igualmente rápidos a criticar os médicos, professores ou desportistas
representantes do país que não correspondam às nossas maiores expectativas —
se, em suma, eles não se revelarem, afinal, uma elite, no sentido correcto do
termo.&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;
&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Embora existam poucas — a existirem
algumas — democracias verdadeiras no mundo (a maior parte dos sistemas que
reivindicam este título são oligarquias electivas), o espírito democrático,
apesar disso, perpassa a vida ocidental, para o bem e para o mal. O bem reside
na pressão que é feita no sentido de se tratar todas as pessoas de forma justa;
o mal reside na pressão que é feita no sentido de tornar todas as pessoas
idênticas. Este último constitui uma tendência de nivelamento, uma impulsão
para baixo, à qual a excelência desagrada porque ergue montanhas onde o
espírito democrático-negativo apenas deseja ver planícies. Mas a democracia não
devia ter como objectivo reduzir as pessoas e os seus feitos a um denominador
comum; devia visar elevá-las, ambiciosa e drasticamente, até tão perto quanto
possível de um ideal. E isso significa, entre outras coisas, ter instituições,
especialmente de ensino, que sejam as melhores e mais exigentes do seu género.&lt;/div&gt;

interessantes de filosofia que saem para o mercado, mesmo com a esperança que
ainda vá dando para aqueles que considero essenciais. Esta assinalável e
curiosa edição será um dos volumes sacrificados, pelo que se alguém por aí por
caridade queira ler e escrever sobre o livro, este blog é, como sempre o foi,
um espaço aberto de divulgação. Um dos fenómenos mais estranhos para
quem se inicia nos testes de validade dedutiva dos argumentos é constatar que
há argumentos dedutivos que são válidos tendo ao mesmo tempo premissa falsa e
conclusão verdadeira. Deixo aqui um pequeno exemplo:&lt;/div&gt;

não era americano, mas alemão. Vale a pena fazer a demonstração com o inspector
