Yes, almost two years ago Micah Moore and Blake Faucette began pre-production on Dogs of Chinatown. I was lucky enough to be a part of production and post…and continue to help out as much as I can.

Rob McHone, the owner and operator of The Carousel Grande Theater in Greensboro, is hosting Dogs of Chinatown for a week beginning tomorrow June 26th-July 2, playing @ 7:30 pm each night. Rob and the Carousel have always been gracious hosts to independent films and this is another example. Thanks so much Rob.

Happy Father’s Day

My dad is a good guy. I really enjoy the talks we have on the phone and in person. That was not always true. When I left for college I did something that hurt his trust and he let me know about it in a letter that smacked me in the face when I was all alone in a new state at a college where I didn’t know anyone. That ate at me for years, not the part I played. But the actual letter motivated me to prove him wrong in so many ways.

As time went on I forgot about the letter and had more important things in my life push me. Also as time passed I began to understand what a true gentleman my father is. I also understood that I was a young punk/jerk and deserved every word in that letter.

My father and mother did their very best to raise me in a very diverse household. They embraced art and shared their passion and love with my brother and I and that is now incorporated in our lives today.

My father got his masters at Columbia University while studying motion pictures. He went on and got a Ph.D. in Fine Arts.

Last year I had some frequent flyer miles that were about to expire and I asked him if he would act in an episode of Corporate Assassin. He agreed and I flew him to NC to participate.

He has a great sense of humor and was great in the role. I do watch and cringe that my dear old dad is dying in one of my creations. I could feel terrible or even guilty when his day comes. But I do not find that true, it was a great experience that I shared with my dad and it gives me so much joy that he is so proud of that episode. Every day is father’s and mother’s day to me and I’m so grateful to have them in my life. I love them with all my heart.

I can understand that Basil Tsiokos has seen it all and sometimes enough is enough.

Basil Tsiokos is Programming Associate, Documentary Features for the Sundance Film Festival. He also screens for POV, has been a guest curator for the Jacob Burns Film Center, and regularly watches hundreds a film a year through programming or at film festivals. He was previously the Artistic Director for NewFest for 12 years.

The list is great information on how a documentary should be done. But the commentary attached to the advice is straight from frustration and is wrong.

Narration:
Dear Documentary Filmmakers: Your incessant narration is driving me to drink. Shut up already and let the images tell the story.
Dear Documentary Filmmakers: Having ponderous voiceover narration = bad idea. Having it delivered by inarticulate children = worse idea.

Subtitles vs Dubbing:

FxFactory Pro is absolutely amazing and the plugin developers are making filters and transitions that are simply sensational. Here is my video review of Volumetrix 2 from Industrial Revolution part of the FxFactory Pro plugins for Final Cut Pro, Motion and Final Cut Express.

FxFactory Pro is supplying some of the coolest and most useful plugins in the marketplace for Final Cut Pro. Their filter/transitions/generators list keeps increasing and the vendors that are associated with them keep creating awesome plugins. It is easy to use, the help guide is at your fingertips and the presets are outstanding. They really make it easy for you to apply an amazing effect or transition without manipulating the properties. Of course you can to come up with your own great effect and save it for later.

Price
$49, that is a bargain especially if you plan on working on Music Videos, Sci-Fi projects or anything with a lot of lighting effects. I can’t say enough about this plugin besides, download FxFactory Pro now and try all the effects for free for 15 days.
