<p style="text-align: justify;">When does the time of entering adulthood arrive? Is it when you graduate college? This is tied more closely to education. But we never stop learning. So, you quickly gain a counter position to argue with. Do you grow up once you get your first job? When you can finally pay all your checks by yourself? Is it when you don’t need anyone to take your hand and guide you through life anymore? Maybe that becomes a lonely time in your life. You tell me!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I am almost certain of one thing: everyone struggles with something. And there are days when just getting by feels like a full-time job. </p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Maybe that’s not a case for you. But for me, I know that things don’t always go smoothly. My apartment is never as tidy as I would like it to be. I always have work things open—when it comes to paperwork it always takes me a long time to sort things out. But the calmer I am about those things, the more efficiently I can work with the things that I feel passionately about. </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Define <em>independence </em>for me? Because I don’t think we ever are. Sure, certain areas more than in others. But we co-exist and keeping good company along the way is not a bad feeling either.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">No offense to anyone who had to figure it all out by themselves from an early age. I respect you so much because I certainly wasn’t able to do that. I understand that it often doesn’t come by chance and you have no other choice but to become an adult. </p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Did you know that the prefrontal cortex in your brain is responsible for noting change? It is also where all your decisions are made. Neurons communicate with other parts of your brain, playing a major role in weighing in on choices, impacting your emotional responses, and perceptions. By the time we reach our mid-20s, this particular part of our brain undergoes many changes that impact our behavior.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With growing up comes experience and our paths cross various types of characters from interaction with which we learn. So, I dare to share the next lessons I have learned on my path with you.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Stick to your <a href="https://blog.rescuetime.com/mental-strategies-long-term-goals/">long-term goals</a></strong>. Short-term wins are great for boosting your ego and earning something extra. But you should always weigh in whether they are contributing to your future and how.</li>
<li><strong>Take good care of your mentors</strong>. They have learned a thing or two from the business you’re in before you. So, take note and always strive to improve from where you are now.</li>
<li><strong>Be attentive to the signals that the universe sends your way</strong>. Don’t try to force yourself into business, partnerships, or relationships that don’t feel right.</li>
<li><strong>Don’t rush into things and try to see immediate success</strong>. Things normally get better and grow with time. So, give them the time that they need. Know when it is a good time to pursue something. Also, be gentle and patient with the process.</li>
<li><strong>Stop <a href="https://zenhabits.net/lifes-enough-stop-comparing-yourself-to-others/">comparing yourself</a> to everyone else</strong>. If you’re still a little lost right now, that’s perfectly OK. Keep strong on your path and success will follow. </li>

Any form of exercise even yoga might seem like the last thing you want to do when your sick but certain yoga poses can actually ease some of the symptoms and help you get better.&nbsp;</p>
<p>If your symptoms are below the neck then avoid these poses if you have a runny nose, headache, fever that is usually okay. Basically, yoga poses can help your body detoxify and strengthen its immune fighting responses. <br />It&#8217;s also a good idea to pair your yoga practice with health increasing steps. One thing to remember while sick is to drink lots of fluids in order to flush out the pathogens and reduce stress. Stress is known to raise inflammation and lower the immune system. I know it can be hard but avoid highly caffeinated drinks, which stress the body out, and alcohol which can burden your body and weaken the immune system.&nbsp;</p>
<p>These poses will be done on a yoga mat so grab your mat, roll out of bed or the couch, and get ready to actively help yourself heal.</p>
<p><strong>Here are two yoga exercises to try:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Tapping</strong></p>
<p><strong>Benefits:</strong> stimulates the thymus gland responsible for fight infection in the body. It also stimulates the lymph nodes and opens the main nerve/life force channel to nourish cells.&nbsp;</p>
<ol>
<li>Sit in a seat with your spine nice and tall. Interlace your fingers and start tapping your palms into one another as you create a reverberation through your hands. Inhale and exhale as you tap.</li>
<li>Gently tap into your sternum and the upper chest with your hands interlaced and knuckles of your thumbs moving into the chest. This stimulates the thymus gland.</li>
<li>Insert your thumbs into your collarbone and circle clockwise. </li>
<li>Open the hands slide your thumbs under your armpits. Interlace your fingers. Exhale and contract. Inhale, lift your elbows and lift your gaze. Wrap your hands around your neck, exhale and contract back down repeat several times.&nbsp;</li>

<p><strong>Downward Dog</strong></p>
<p><strong>Benefits:</strong> Downward dog helps drain fluids as you invert the body with your head by the floor. Just keep a box of tissues near for this one especially if you have a runny nose! This pose also activates the parasympathetic (relaxation) response when you hold the pose.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Hold the pose for 5 breaths and be flexible with breathing through the mouth while sick.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Instructions:&nbsp;</p>
<ol>
<li>Come to tabletop pose on your mat. Arch the spine as you inhale into cow pose and exhale while you contract the torso into cat pose. Repeat several times. </li>
<li>Press your palms into the mat and straighten the arms while simultaneously tucking the toes,  the legs and raising the hips up. </li>
<li>You can choose to bend the knees slightly to release stress on the hamstrings. Keep the gaze between the legs for the length of the time. </li>
<li>Hold the pose for 5 breaths and be flexible with breathing through the mouth while sick. </li>
<li>Return to tabletop position. </li>
</ol>

<p>Here are some meditation steps to cultivate faith (Śraddhā in Sanskrit) as the perfect cure. </p>
<p>This meditation is from my favorite yogi Kino Macgregor. It describes the heart as a garden and how to plant seeds of faith and worthiness so that they will blossom and bring steadfast faith into your life. </p>
<p>Preparation: Grab your favorite healing items like inspiring crystals, mala beads,&nbsp; etc. Carefully light your incense or put on some calm meditation flute track or nature soundtrack to set the mood and cue the mind to relax and turn.&nbsp;</p>
<p></p>

<p><strong>Instructions:</strong><br />Come to a comfortable seated position and allow your eyes to close. You can sit on a&nbsp; yoga mat,  a meditation pillow, or on the couch. Bring your palms together at your heart and take a deep breath to settle into the moment.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Chant out mantra “Om” As is an audible vibrating sound: “OOOOOOOOOOOmmmmmmm” This is a healing chant for the entire mind, body, and spirit.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Step 1: The Breath Awareness</strong></p>
<p>Now, slowly bring your hands to your knees. Start off with bringing your attention to the nostrils and along the upper lip.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Bring your mind into the simple awareness, sensations, and qualities of the breath. Focus on every detail. Focus the mind in a pure state of awareness. Cultivate equanimity, allowing the breath to be exactly what it is neither good nor bad. Simply accept the breath for what it is. To help cultivate an inner experience drop your mind into the breath.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Step 2: Count the Breath</strong></p>
<p>Now, begin counting down from 10 like so:&nbsp; “10 in, 10 . 9 i, 9 . 8 , 8 . 7 , 7  ct.”</p>
<p>This counting backward technique helps use the mind to drop into a more concentrated state. Count the breath anytime you need extra help to bring your attention into a calm inward focus. <br />The meditative mind is a concentrated very awake state. Redirecting the objects of the sense organs into the inner world. Instead of focusing on the world that’s outside, focus inside.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Step 3: The Spiritual Heart</strong></p>
<p>Pay attention to the spiritual heart located in the space behind the sternum. Feel with the inner body. See with inner sight. Hear with inner ears. Allow yourself to tune into the spiritual heart to the pathway to the true light of ultimate and final surrender.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ask yourself what you do, let go of to finally be ready to say yes to the spiritual heart and total surrender.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Down in the garden of your heart, plant seeds of faith (Śraddhā in Sanskrit). Allow to have belief lant in your heart.&nbsp;</p>
<p>1. Believe in yourself:</p>
<p>“I believe in me”<br />”I believe that I am worthy”</p>
<p>2.Repeat to yourself multiple times:</p>
<p>“I believe I am worthy”<br />You don’t need to do anything to be worthy. You simply are. All you need to do is believe in it. “I believe I am worthy”&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Step 4: Take Root</strong></p>
<p>Now with confidence that you are worthy to let the seed of faith take root in your heart. Say to yourself:</p>
<p>“I have been created and destined to a purpose. I have a path that is uniquely mine”</p>
<p>In the garden of your heart feel a warm white light. This light burns and destroys anything holding you back from peace and happiness. Forgive the world around you and any mistakes you may have made.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Step 5: Allow the light to shine out from your heart</strong></p>
<p>Feel emanating light, peace, and love feels like as you sit there. <br />Take another big long breath.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Step 6: Chant “Ooooommm”</strong></p>
<p>Bring your hands together and finish the meditation with another “Om” Slowly open your eyes and enjoy the rest of your day with this heart-centered happiness growing in the garden of your heart and attracting goodness into your life!	</p>

<p>Drishti is also used outside of the <a href="https://yogaworkshop.com/ashtanga/">Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition</a>. A cleansing technique called the <a href="https://yogainternational.com/article/view/candlelight-insight-trataka">technique of Trataka</a>, or candle gazing, is where the eyes are held open until tears form. It has two purposes:</p>
<p></p>
<ol>
<li>The first is to wash the eyes with tears</li>
<li>The second, to teach the student to resist the unconscious urge to blink.&nbsp;</li>
</ol>
<p></p>
<p>It is important to note that when practicing the technique of Drishti, you must not use a hard gaze on your intended target, but rather a soft gaze. Never gaze so hard that you tense your body and create stiffness in your neck or shoulders as you may cause yourself an injury.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Until you become more familiar with this type of gaze, feel free to try Bahya (external) gazing points when practicing your asanas. Remember though that they require a soft gaze as well.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As with many parts of yoga, practice helps greatly in accomplishing your goals. Although this gazing technique can help you greatly with your yoga practice, use it as a tool to eliminate the false visions we so often perceive to be the truth in life and learn to set your vision free.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chances are that you have already spent a lot of your precious lifetime in front of a mirror trying on countless tanks, tees, sweatshirts, or whatever it is that you need to complete your yoga wardrobe with, while noticing how some of the things you try on seem to fit and look a lot better as you pick up different colors. Well, before you go out and debate on which color to choose over which one for that pair of new top and leggings, we here have a few tips on how to figure out what are the colors that will best suit and flatter you.</p>

<p>A color analysis is all about figuring out and learning what colors match you better by taking into account the complexion of your skin as well as your hair and eye colors. Thanks to Carol Jackson’s book Color Me Beautiful this study was simplified by reducing the pairing of these physical characteristics with the seasonal colors belonging to spring, summer, autumn and winter.</p>
<p>Here are the steps that you can take for finally getting to know which are the colors that will help radiate your beauty while on that yoga mat or out there on the streets:</p>

<p><strong>Are you cool or warm?</strong></p>
<p>This is not about whether you are a more preserved or friendly person, but rather about determining the undertone of that defines your looks beyond the apparent tone of your skin. To figure this out more easily simply get two pieces of the same fabric, a golden one and a silver one; then place them one at a time next to the inner side of your arm or wrists or any other part of your body that is rarely exposed to the sun. The fabric that best blends with your skin color will indicate your temperature type: gold will indicate warm whereas silver will indicate cool. If your result was warm, this will mean that you will either belong to a spring or autumn palette and if it was cool, you will be a summer or winter type.</p>

<p><strong>Are you light or dark?</strong></p>
<p>Now take a look at your hair and eyes; are they light or dark? If the pigment of your hair and eyes is dark with a cool undertone you will belong to the winter color palette; if, on the other hand, your hair and eyes pigment is light with a cool undertone you will be a summer type. Dark eyes and hair along with a warm undertone will indicate an autumn type whereas light ayes and hair in conjunction with a warm undertone will mean that you belong to a spring palette.</p>
<p>If you realize that there is a mix of dark and light in some cases, just go with what the dominant one is and always go with your natural colors rather than tans, hair dyes or contact lenses.</p>

Is there anything we can make our own? </p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My neighbor is a hippie mamma. She bursts out wisdom tricks all the time, but what intrigues me most about her is that she never preaches them, she lives them. That is good marketing. And the best thing? She doesn’t even know she’s doing it.</p>
<p>Leeane is well into her fifties, but her skin is not. We often walk our dogs together and end up having lengthened conversations about life. And she’s definitely one who lives her life fully. I could even say that she plays a role model figure in my life. I find her beautiful and I would even tell her that. Over time she has shared with me some advice that helped me improve my well being. Please stop, breathe and enjoy some of the advice that was bestowed upon me by my discerning next-door-neighbor.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Before you do anything, you need to embrace that the push to do something good for ourselves needs to come from within. The good thing is that for the following you don’t need much or anything but a little nice thought. Plus the time to do it is always now. The all-consuming instantaneous society that surrounds our lives calls for counter poses. And righteously so, as we try to find balance in our poses (and in life), we have to fight through imbalance. Our skin is a reflection of how we feel and it manifests all the good and the bad from our lives. With this in mind, here are my tips on how I strive to keep centered.</p>
<p><strong>1. Mindfully move around just to make your blood circulate.</strong></p>
<p>It could be a split second of doing it (the mindful part &#8211; practice makes perfect) just to ground yourself, reconnect with self, and proceed with fresh inspiration.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>2. Turn yourself upside down.</strong></p>
<p>Fresh blood to your brain works wonders and not only makes you feel happier, it also makes you more alert and more receptive for new ideas. Maybe you need to solve a problem and you need to change the perspective on the problem. When I hit the wall or strike a writing block, I like to practice what I call 5 minutes to myself (sometimes I take more, but I feel no time is wasted if it’s invested in yourself). Yoga offers many different inversion poses from where you can take inspiration. Plus getting creative with the poses can spark inspiration in itself. <a href="http://www.healthline.com/health/inversion-therapy#Overview1">Inversion therapy</a> is also known to alleviate ailing back pain.</p>
<p><strong>3. Drink plenty of water.</strong></p>
<p>Especially following up the previous tip of hanging out upside down. You need to stabilize the system, as well as you need to flush out the toxins that your body released during the workout phase. Our bodies consist of mainly fluid, the fresher it is, the better it will make you feel.</p>
<p><strong>4. Find natural elements that will infuse the spring back to your skin.</strong></p>
<p>For my dry skin, cacao butter works well. I know lots of my friends use coconut oil. In cases of emergency I would go for olive oil. I figured that the oils which form on your skin need to be replenished and not just stripped away. Most of the time I even prefer looking a little pale and tired (if that is the state I currently operate at), rather than applying products that I know don’t serve my skin well in the long run.</p>
<p><strong>5. </strong><strong>Be grateful of what you have.</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Could be as small as truly enjoying your coffee or reaching your fingertips to the ground in a sun salutation for the first time. Be proud that you are. Your skin will proudly show it off too.</p>
<p><strong>6. </strong><strong>Surround yourself with nice people that genuinely make you feel good.</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Like my hippie mamma neighbor, she’s definitely in my cool gang posse.</p>
<p><strong>7. And be kind to others.</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<p>It rubs off in all the right ways.</p>
