Microsoft has been installing an add-on named “.NET Framework Assistant” in Firefox which is designed for ClickOnce technology. This has been upsetting to many Firefox users because it’s sneaky and unsecure, this type of behaviour is similar to malware or spyware, there’s no uninstall button to remove the add-on.

Free AntiVirus – Panda Cloud Beta

I like to have a anti virus in my system just in case, I scan my PC at least every fortnight. Came across Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta last night, too bad it dosen’t work on a 64 bit OS.

Installed it on my laptop instead just to try it out, uninstalled Avira AntiVir which I think is great.

Apparently the difference is the virus database is in the cloud meaning its virtualized on a server somewhere so you dont have to worry about heavy updates which is good for low internet speeds.

And if you don’t like playing around with the config this is perfect, I can’t really comment on the effectiveness yet but I’ll keep a close eye on it for a few months.

Frontline is working on a multiplatform project called “Digital Nation – Life on the Virtual Frontier” which is due to be aired sometime in 2010, this is about the digital age and how it is changing us.

The video embedded is from the Digital Nation web site, it is about the USMC Infantry Immersion Trainer established in 2007 on the Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Pendleton in the state of California built in March 1942.

Its a fully tailorable virtual training system able to create almost any scenario consisting of a life like close quarter combat environment, projected moving avatars that could be enemy or hostages in rooms for practicing clearing and hostage rescue.

I found a recommendation for Tagscanner on a forum because I wanted to extract mp3 songs from a certain mp3 player you probably know which one, you have to enable hidden folders then you can find the music but the problem was the file names didn’t make sense but I had a hunch that the ID3 tags were still intact, so wondered how the information could be extracted.

This application solved my problem and now I can change the filenames of my mp3 tracks to match the id3 information in varying order with these placeholders that you click on:

Conficker, also known as Downup, Downandup, Conflicker, and Kido, is a computer worm that surfaced November 21st, 2008 with Conficker.A and targets the Microsoft Windows operating system. The worm exploits a known vulnerability (MS08-067) in the Windows Server service used by Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7 Beta. The latest variant (Conficker.C) will begin checking for a payload to download on March 31st, 2009. Conficker.A and Conficker.B variants continue to check for payloads each with a distinct domain generation algorithm.
