But a lot of these are dividend traps, enticing us with the promise of fat quarterly payouts only to cut them down the road.As a stark reminder, we can look to General Electric. Once hailed as the safest of the safe, GE has in short succession gotten government help, cut its dividend to save cash and (hopefully) retain its AAA debt rating, and then lost that AAA status anyway. And of course, relatively conservative banks like BB&amp;T (NYSE: BBT) and US Bancorp (NYSE: USB) are another reminder of safe dividends gone scary. The "5% of nothing" clubTraditionally, a 5% dividend yield has been eye-popping enough to elicit fears of a dividend cut. Now, it feels commonplace. When you see a blue chip like Kraft

FRPTI am a Fool.I know this not just because the name on our website tells me so -- but because of the audacity of what I intend to accomplish today. I intend to pick a portfolio of stocks, all drawn from a single industry, which will beat the market. And not just beat it, but crush it.Why is this Foolish? Because everyone knows that you can't beat the market. (Despite the fact that The Motley Fool has been doing just that for seven years and counting.) Everyone knows, too, that your best chance of even tying the market lies in broad diversification -- the best example being buying an index fund. TTM Panasonic Corp. wants a bigger share of sales in developing markets, but knows that its $1,200 large-screen plasma-display TV sets and $3,000 nanotechnology refrigerators are beyond the reach of low-wage families. So the company is planning a new line of offerings that could include TVs for $50, air conditioners for $100 and washing machines in the $200 range -- but reaching those prices means offering scaled-down models that lack many of the features typically found in such products.Last Trade: 7.77Day's Range: 7.54 - 7.8952wk Range: 3.05 - 11.00Volume: 894,081ABOUT - Tata Motors Ltd. MPEL When I read about a possible IPO of Las Vegas Sands' (NYSE: LVS) Macau operation, I couldn't help but think of The Producers, the 1968 Mel Brooks film and, later, a Broadway musical. In the Mel Brooks incarnation, a theater producer named Max Bialystock tries to make money by creating a flop. Las Vegas Sands chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson is trying to avoid a balance-sheet flop by raising funds and/or selling assets. Bialystock sold more than 100% of the shares in his theater production, which he expected to fail. No, no, I'm not asking you to tick off your favorite members of the Fortune 500 or some up-and-comer small cap that you've just discovered. I want you to think about the characteristics you'd give a company if you could dream it right into existence.Would it be in a particular industry? Would it be services or product based? Would it have fat profit margins or would it make its money by doing a huge volume? We could spend all day going over the details of this Galatea of the business world, but I would guess that there is at least one aspect that we'd all include in our creation -- growth. All those other details are great, but how interesting can a business be if it's stagnating and lacks avenues for expansion?Last Trade: 11.29Day's Range: 11.22 - 11.6252wk Range: 8.14 - 19.28Volume: 13,136,090ABOUT - Activision

IT DIDN'T get a whole lot better, either. The former development was all it took in the second quarter for mutual funds to ring up double-digit gains, even as the U.S. recession passed the 18-month mark with no end in sight.Of course, the realization that things aren't much improved from an economic standpoint -- highlighted by the latest employment figures -- were enough to erase a good chunk of those gains in the early days of the third quarter.Last Trade: 11.18Day's Range: 10.84 - 11.2152wk Range: 4.80 - 17.80Volume: 5,462,686ABOUT - The AES Corporation, The AES Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the generation and distribution of electricity in Asia, North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa. <description>The hype that built up UFC 100 surrounded the heavyweight battle between reigning champ Brock Lesnar and the only man to beat him, Frank Mir. On Saturday night the hype Lesnar ended the suspense with a dominant performance, crushing Mir and eventually earning a second round stoppage victory to retain his title.

Mir attempted to implement the same submission move that beat Lesnar more than a year ago but his kneebar failed to find its way into the action and the bigger man overwhelmed the former champ, tossing him around the ring and landing blows at will.

By the second round it was obvious Mir had no defense and the fight was quickly stopped after a series of bombs to the head delivered by Lesnar. Lesnar improved to 4-1 while the loss dropped Mir to 12-4.

In other action Georges St. Pierre earned a unanimous decision over Thiago Alves to keep his welterweight title. Jon Fitch managed to get past Paulo Thiago with a unanimous decision in a welterweight bout; Dan Henderson captured a win in the second

<description>Arturo Gatti, a former junior welterweight boxing champion and considered by many to be among the best pound-for-pound boxers in his prime, was found dead inside a hotel room on Saturday. Gatti was 37-years-old.

The eccentric fighter had been in the resort town of Porto de Galihnas in Brazil with his wife and one-year-old son.

Police have not disclosed a cause of death but foul play is suspected. While there were not stab wounds or bullet wounds investigators did discover blood stains on the floor of his hotel room.

<description>Spain’s Luis Leon Sanchez managed to sprint his way to the line on Saturday and capture the eighth stage of the Tour de France while Italy’s Rinaldo Nocentini retained the yellow jersey as the race’s overall leader after finishing the stage in strong position.

Nocentini, participating in his first Tour de France, finished in the same pack as Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong, the two closest riders to his lead. Contador currently sits six seconds behind Nocentini while the seven-time champion Armstrong is eight seconds back.

The Tour de France will enter Stage 9 on Sunday, the final day in the Pyrenees, as they tackle a 100-mile trek from Saint-Gaudens to Tarbes, a course that includes one of the most grueling climbs in cycling.

<description>The political situation in Honduras remains uncertain following two days of talks in Costa Rica which involved interim president Roberto Micheletti, the recently overthrown President Manuel Zelaya and Costa Rican President Oscar Arias who had been acting as mediator.

According to supporters of Micheletti and Zelaya the talks produced little to resolve the political crisis that has polarized the country for two weeks. Micheletti and Zelaya refused to meet with each other but held separate talks with Arias on Thursday before leaving representatives to further discuss the issues on Friday.

Zelaya was kidnapped from his residence by military troops on June 28 and flown to Costa Rica after the Supreme Court and Honduran Congress agreed the leader should be removed from office. The coup has been heavily criticized by international leaders yet those in Honduras have argued that Zelaya had been attempting to change the country’s constitution in hopes of extending his presidential term.

<description>At least four people have died and more than 40 left injured after a car bomb ripped through a market in the Iraqi city Kukchali on Saturday.

Kukchali, located on the outskirts of the volatile city of Mosul, is home to a mix of Sunnis and Shias and often sees insurgent violence that spills over from the larger city. The market was located in a predominantly Shia area and all those killed and injured were said to be civilians.

It has been less than two weeks since U.S. troops left Iraqi cities and the violence has continued to be a daily occurrence.
