Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has entered a not guilty plea in an Alabama courtroom following charges tied to illegal drug possession.Russell, 24, was arrested on July 5 after an undercover investigation found the former LSU star to be in possession of codeine syrup without a prescription. Codeine syrup is considered a controlled substance. The No. 1 selection in the 2007 NFL Draft has found the professional ranks much tougher than his days with the Tigers. Russell is now considered one of the biggest busts in NFL history, having completed just 52.1 percent of his passes and tossing 23 interceptions while losing 15 fumbles. In May the Raiders cut ties with Russell after paying him more than $36 million over three years.###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a business, music andsocial networking community.
The New York Yankees will be without Andy Pettitte for four to five weeks after the veteran lefty suffered a Grade 1 left groin strain in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.Pettitte was forced to leave the game in the third inning after feeling significant pain while pitching to Kelly Shoppach. He was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital where he was given an MRI which revealed the Grade 1 strain. Making matters worse for the Yankees is the fact Pettitte has been arguably their best pitcher this year, posting an 11-2 record with a 2.88 ERA.The club will now have to decide if they will go after another arm or try to juggle their current staff. According to GM Brian Cashman the Yankees will try Sergio Mitre next Saturday, a long reliever who has made two emergency starts for the club already this year.###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a business, music andsocial networking community.
While LeBron James has taken a vocal role in attempting to sway the NBA into retiring the #23 worn by Michael Jordan he may want to reconsider after the six-time NBA champ took a shot at two-time NBA MVP for ditching the Cleveland Cavaliers to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat.Jordan didn’t exactly blast LeBron for his “decision” but did say “There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry, called up Magic and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team.'”Jordan made the comment after playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada but he gave himself some leeway by saying “things are different. I can't say that's a bad thing. It's an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys.”Almost immediately after announcing he would be playing with Wade and Bosh in South Florida the seven-year vet was slammed for taking the easy way to a championship and abandoning Cleveland.###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community

J.J. Redick will be staying in Orlando after the Magic matched the Chicago Bulls offer to the guard, giving the former first-rounder a three-year deal worth $19 million. While Redick got off to a slow start in the NBA following the 2006 NBA Draft he developed into a key piece of the Magic puzzle last season, often coming off the bench as a legitimate offensive threat. He averaged 9.6 points per game and that could go up significantly next year as Orlando plans to use him more.Along with his scoring capabilities Redick has developed into one of Orlando’s better passers and has concentrated on improving his defense.###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a business, music andsocial networking community.
Brett Favre has said that his return to the Minnesota Vikings is not a question about desire but rather the condition of his surgically repaired ankle. The three-time NFL MVP is coming off one of his best seasons, leading the Vikings to the NFC Championship game before falling to the New Orleans Saints. Shortly after his season ended Favre had surgery on his injured ankle, hoping he would be ready for another year as Minnesota’s quarterback but he has said his recovery is taking longer than he expected. In an interview with ESPN’s Hannah Storm the 40-year-old Favre said “When you wake up in the morning and your feet hurt it kind of makes the rest of your body hurt.” Despite those pains Favre did say “I would love to play and be the best I can possibly be. That's what I'm working toward right now.”###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a business, music andsocial networking community.
Spain captured their first World Cup title in its country history on Sunday, beating the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time. With the game heading into the final moments of extra time Andres Iniesta managed to put a pass from Cesc Fabregas past Maarten Stekelenburg for the victory. That pass came shortly after Fabregas gained control of a Dutch turnover just outside the penalty area and spotted Iniesta cutting toward goal on the right side.Spain then held on for the final minutes to end their World Cup drought, erasing themselves from the list of dominant soccer countries yet to capture the greatest title. Spain had the record for most victories at a World Cup without a title, 24, heading into Sunday’s match but that record now belongs to the Netherlands who own 19 World Cup wins but no title.Sunday’s loss was the third time the Netherlands fell in the finals, the first since 1978. Coming into the match the Dutch had been streaking, having won all six of their World Cup matches but by the end of the day all those

Joey Chestnut faced little competition in Sunday’s Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest, inhaling 54 hot dogs in ten minutes to win his fourth straight title at the Coney Island annual affair.Chestnut didn’t have to face his toughest rival, Takeru Kobayashi, who has refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating. While Kobayashi, a six-time Nathan’s hot dog champ, didn’t compete he did attend the event and provided plenty of drama.Following Chestnut’s victory Kobayashi made his way to the stage but was quickly apprehended by police and was taking into custody.Kobayashi has refused to sign with Major League Eating because he wants the freedom to enter eating contests that are sanctioned by other groups.###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a business, music andsocial networking community. Nadal managed to collect points on a solid 77% of his first serves put in play and 64% of his second serves.Nadal has eight career Grand Slam singles titles with two of those titles coming at Wimbledon.
Serena Williams had little trouble collecting her fourth career Wimbledon title and her 13thcareer Grand Slam single title after blowing past Vera Zvonareva in straight sets on Saturday 6-3, 6-2 at the All England Club.Serena was just too much for Zvonareva as she used a dominant first serve to control the match. That first serve produced points on 94% of her offerings and she never faced a break point in the match. Williams also finished with 29 winners compared to just nine from Zvonareva.Williams has achieved a career Grand Slam with five wins at the Australian Open (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010), three titles at the U.S. Open (1999, 2002, 2008), four at Wimbledon (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010) and a French Open title (2002).###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a business, music andsocial networking community.
The Los Angeles Lakers will have all their pieces in place when they begin their quest for a third straight NBA title next year as head coach Phil Jackson told the team he would be returning for his 11thseason on the sideline. While it will be Jackson’s 11thseason with the Lakers it will be his 20thas an NBA head coach and almost certainly his last as he said in a statement, “It'll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.”Jackson had been hesitant as to whether he would return to coaching, telling reporters he had health issues to address before he could commit to another year. With those issues now cleared Jackson appears ready to hunt down his 12thNBA title as a coach. As coach of the Chicago Bulls Jackson put together a pair of three-peat runs and managed to run off three straight with the Lakers from 2000-02. Los Angeles has won the last two NBA titles and Jackson will now have the opportunity to put together an almost unthinkable fourth three-peat.###Click here for moreSports NewsAbout WooEBWooEB
