Making your own dog bed is actually a pretty cheap solution. As well, as this adorable chocolate darling illustrates, it looks like one of the best dog beds out there. This bed appears a bit over-sized. If you make a more snug fitted version, it could place the bed in a round wicker basket.

Step-by-step Instructions

for a Quilted Dog Bed

1. Measure the diameter of a circular pet bed insert. Add 1 inch for seam allowances and make a circle pattern this size.

2. You’ll need to determine how many blocks to create. Use this formula to determine how many 3-1/4-x-5-1/2-inch rectangles you’ll need: pet bed diameter in inches x 3.14 divided by 2.75 inches (round up to nearest whole number).

3. Assemble and join enough hourglass blocks and solid squares to equal the circle pattern.

4. Cut one circle each from the pieced fabric and a coordinating backing fabric.

5. Join rectangles to make a pieced strip, then join ends to make a circle.

6. Sew pieced circle to the pet bed circles with a 1/2-inch seam allowance, inserting a long zipper in the bottom seam to make the cover removable for washing.

These invisible bookshelves meets all criteria.

Materials Needed

1. A book (that you don’t mind never reading again)
2. A good-sized L-bracket
3. Couple of flat-head screws
4. Ruler & pen
5. Glue
6. Stack of Books (high enough to cover your bracket)

How to Make Invisible Bookshelves

1. Mark the middle of your book on the inside of the cover with a ruler and pen.
2. Then, insert your L-shaped bracket in the book.
3. Glue it on and strengthen this situation by screwing the bracket into the books as well as adding a few screw into the book. See the picture on the right.
4. Add a ton of glue to the page facing the cover that has the L-bracket in it.
5. Close the book and place something heavy on top for a day or so.
6. Then, hang the book with the bracket upwards on the wall. See picture below.
7. Stack other books on top, at least as high as your bracket so that your bracket becomes invisible.

Personally I am not too much into aprons, however, this one with funky retro fabric,… and ruffles, … and pockets, well, it’s just too cute to not share with you all.

It’s not to short, not too long, not too sexy, not too nerdy… just right! Kinda fun!

Your Free Crochet Pattern: Happy Red Bike Skirt With Flowers

If you can read Dutch, here is a free tutorial for this darling bike skirt (literal translation: coat protector). If you are really keen to make one, and don’t read Dutch, leave me a comment below and I’ll see that I’ll translate it from Dutch to English for you.

It won’t be an easy translation as their crochet abbreviations and terms are quite different to ours! So, you have to really want to make this….

Bike Seat Cover

Your Free Crochet Patterns ~ with/without flowers and stripes

A great way to use up some left over yarn, and a nice way to create a soft but funky seat for your bike.

You can make this in a single color, you can use yarn that changes color as the first picture shows, or you can alternate colors to get a stripey version, as the second picture shows.

You can’t see very clearly, but the crochet flower is simply added at the end.

Again, if you are ‘seriously’ interested, I can have this pattern translated for you. Or, maybe easier, I can actually make it for you and give you my crochet pattern.   This translation will have to be in Fall, though.

It’s summer and we need these bags rather than one more tote bag. Personally, I need a makeup bag for travel. That is, I need a make-up bag that ‘s just the right size to hold all my bottles of lotions and potions, soap, and make-up to take along on my vacation.

I don’t know about you, but I have quite a few make-up & toiletries bags. However, none of them actually hold my bottles, make-up and things properly.

One’s too small for the bottles, but has nice polka dots fabric. I use it to carry my crochet projects around town instead. Another one is really big, and while it is made with nice, sheer & feminine fabric, it’s shapeless and all the bottles fall over in it and make a mess. My third one is a faux Louis Vuitton bag for cosmetics, which practically hold my daily stash of lipsticks & stuff, but it does not hold my vacation-volume of lip liners & lipsticks. 

I actually have bag envy with my husband who has a hanging toiletry bag. Great idea, however his are masculine black with Velcro closures, etc. Very sturdy, but not pretty. 

You get the picture, my dear friends, I NEED and …. crave …. a (set of cosmetics & toiletry bags that will actually HOLD all things I want to travel with, and that his highly practical to use, and… is pretty!  And if you are like me, YOU need a bag like that also. 

So, let’s go make one.

I did quite some research into finding the right bags for us.

Bag Making Instructions

1. Measure the sizes of your bottles. Your bag has to be at least this high.

2. Measure the circumference of all the bottles you really want to take along with you on your trip. Your bag has to be at least these wide and long.

Now, with these measurements, adjust the general make-up cassette patterns below.  That way, this year, YOU WILL HAVE A (set of) TOILETRIES BAG(s) THAT ACTUALLY HOLD ALL THE BOTTLES YOU NEED. Yeah!

3. Choose your best toiletry bag designs, given your set of bottles & amount of cosmetics you must have while travelling, and go make your perfect set of bags:

Design 1a: Elegant Pleaded Zippered & Lined Make-up Bag  Tip:  Details Matter! So pay attention to them. E.g. Note how the satin lining of bag 1a and 1b really lift the bags from plain and simple bags into glamorous pouches!	Design 1b:  Flat, Zippered & Lined Make-up Bag   without pleads     Design 1c: Flat, Knitted & Felted Make-up Bag with Snap closure (free knitting pattern). Love those little tassels!!   Design 1d: Flat, Zippered Wristlet Make-up Bag (free sewing tutorial)   These are essentially the same designs, but with slightly different dimensions & unique details, closures & fabric patterns.
Design 2: Square-Sided Make-up Bag, with Top Zipper and side handle	Design 2a: Square-sided Make-up Bag with Extended Top Zipper Little Boxy Pouch Tutorial: This free sewing tutorial is for a tiny little bag of 4.5” x 3” x 2”, however, you could easily enlarge its dimensions by making minor modifications to the pattern.
Design 3: Flat Make-up Bag. Styled like a pencil bag with central zipper and lining (free sewing pattern)	Design 4: Triangle- Sided Make-up Bag This bag is a good one to upsize to hold your larger shampoo bottles. Ensure that you make sufficient and large-enough pockets.  Also, a sewn-in line of elastic band could be helpful to hold those bottles upright.
Design 5: Cosmetics Roll Bag Very pretty & very  organized. Does not hold toiletry bottles.	Design 6: Envelope Makeup Bag Closure with Velcro & stylish envelop flap; Decorative button.

TIP: it is completely legal to add ruffles to any of these toiletry bags. Stitch the ruffled fabric strips to the front of the bag. Then, sew the front and the back of the bag together.
