Everyone has been out mowing today. I don’t feel like it right now. It’ll either get done tomorrow when I have a little more energy or on Wednesday after I drop Jas off for her 1st day of preschool. As a distractionary measure. Yes, I know that’s not really a word.

Anyway…

Looks like I’m going to get some pretty gladiolus up in my mailbox planter… that I don’t remember planting… hmmm…

I got all of my dirt out and the first of the pavers in for the maintenance path. Once I clear out the remaining vines and weeds from behind the bushes I can put down another layer of weed barrier, the paving stones, and the cheap pine mulch. That will make maintaining that area all the easier. I have a cute border of the clearance rack Dianthus and Xcccc that I got from Lowes as well as the broad leafed Cxxxxx. And I finally found a spot for my frog pot I got 4 or 5 years ago!

The banana peppers look only about a week or less away from salsa-time! The hot-day-droop gets worse from here on out I think…

Every day I go out to train my baby cucumbers to go where Mama wants them to grow. They’re getting the hang of it and I don’t have to re-train any of them, thankfully. Look at the wee little cukes!

It looks like the eggplant I got this year may actually try and bloom. Go figure.

I need like two “knockout” roses to finish off this bed… Maybe I’ll try and uproot the mystery climbers out back and train them as uprights… We shall see but that sounds like fun-bonsai-experiment time to me!

Once I finish clipping off the excess fabric, planting the last of the plants, and putting out the rest of the mulch, this will be about the end of this particular project. I just want to look up how to stucco the wall into semi-prettiness a few more times and get the proper tools. I’ve already calculated out how much is needed and about how much that’ll run me.

So far this whole project has been a Win.

These lovely vines here are the best!!!. I have a good start on the salsa I want to do this year. I just need the peppers down the hill to get a bit bigger. Until then, I’m going to be thinning down the lettuce. Rabbit-style.

Salads-R-Us for a while I think.

I don’t remember my cucumbers taking so long to fruit before but this year has been unusually mild/cold and rainier than expected so…

The sedum by my mailbox is going to look both beautiful while flowering and interesting til it dies back. I’ve never seen one of my plants throw off a different colored branch before… My lemon thyme is blooming beautifully now. My pomegranate bushes are flowering and likely to fruit this year!

I had to replace one of the primroses. They’re on the clearance rack now so I’m glad I went ahead and got them.

And last but not least, my Blue Danube Asters are blooming! So gorgeous! <3<3<3

One neighbor was getting her house re-roofed and I felt compelled to work as hard as they were. So after I did all my vegetable planting I got to work taking out and moving grass. I got the next batch of perennials planted and all of the bottom layer of weed screen in. I need more weed screen to finish and I’ve been trying to figure out what to do about the mulch edge. Speaking of which, I used the last of my black mulch and need to get some more when I have the truck again…

Looks like I’m going to get a lot of cheap Roma tomatoes and my Asters are going to bloom!

I think the climbing rose is liking the trim I gave it after its unfortunate concrete sprinkling… The leaves are coming back in well. The grape is doing ok.

I finally got off my tail and planted the strawberry pot. With strawberries, no less! Decided to put some fern leaf Dill in there as well as a parsley transplant and one of the red cabbages.

The great beyond area awaits you, unfortunately placed grass!

And because I’m feeling proud of myself, here’s another photo of my lovely Hydrangea.

First blooms on my pomegranate bush in a couple of years.

My lambs ear is blooming. I think the other one beside the mailbox is going to pull through. I decided to pour ant killer around it before taking off the dying leaves (not done yet) and the whole plant is perking back up.

I bought some more creeping Phlox. The only variety Ace had was a “candy striper” pink. It’ll do.

I also got some dill and strawberries for replanting my strawberry pot. I’m going to use the clearance purple cabbages I got as a replaceable accent in the curve planting area.

I finally got the majority of the remaining Gladiolus out from around my Forsythia (which got a rough shaping but still needs some detail work). The next area of grass to be taken out to enlarge the flower bed has been marked. It’ll be pretty easily finished as long as I have decent weather like today, overcast but not muggy, to keep the heat down.

My tomatoes are doing well. Just got the first two of what promises to be a large crop.

My garden is doing very well indeed.

Sometimes it feels like…

…somebody’s watching me…

…or that God has taken direct interest in me. As scary a thought as that might be.

Take today for instance.

I decided that I wasn’t going to do any real work outside today. I let my dog out onto her chain, cleaned out her area, and put some bamboo poles Jas thought would look better elsewhere where my cucumbers are. And indeed that was it for what I’d decided on for physical drudgery for the day under the sun.

Then naptime came and with it the rain.

This forced me to rush out and put away my wheelbarrow. (it’s been in the rain too much of late) I grabbed my sheers to put them up but ended up going to my cucumbers and trimming up around their planters so they’d get more rain.

I went to put the dog in and observed that she’d dug a substantial hole and kinda lost my head. Because that’s what I assume happened to my head prompting me to get a shovel and fill in the crater while thunder threatened and rain soaked me.

And less than 5 minutes after sitting down inside the rain stopped, clouds went away, and it couldn’t look prettier.

[insert Q-bert noises here]

Now I need to figure out whether or not hornet / wasp killed clone-of-scary-spider that I found in the garage when going to get a load out the washer. Hopefully it and all it’s progeny are no more.
