My hunting lease has short distance shots 0-200 yards but when I go hunt with my buddy he has long distance " big bean fields ". My question is how does it do With factory loads just say to 500 yards? I'm currently not hand loading yet, but gonna start hopefully soon. Any help would be appreciated

Nashville further north it rained pretty hard all day until they got back close to home.
Weather forecast is not dependable. Temp was 611 at 10:00 am and slowly dropping. I it keeps dropping could see 50 or below.
Ironic, that a tropical storm would bring the cold air here.
Back near 80 at weeks end but rain til end of week, off and on after tomorrow.

One of my good friends when I was working was a guy named Dave Scales.

He was an LTC in the Army Reserves, and I had known him for several years in the business we did at the Pentagon.

We shared a lot of time in the smoking areas of both the Pentagon and later in the Crystal City office for the Chief of Army Reserve. We were not just "smoking buddies", but good friends, who spent a lot of time sharing our loves and interests.

He died on 9/11, in the Pentagon. He is the only one I loved that died in combat; and combat it was. We just didn't know it until it was too late.

Dave was a family man who loved his wife, kids, and parents. He was also a concert pianist who often played for his church and wrote some scores. I didn't realize my love for my fellow man until it was too late.

I miss our lunches and chats in the smoking areas, but most of all I miss him. To say he was a "good man" would be the greatest understatement known to man.

His name was pronounced at the 9/11 memorial service today at the Pentagon, as it has each 9/11 since that horrible day in 2001.

God Bless you, Dave, and your family.

You will not be forgotten.

Ever.

After months of research and searching, I settled on a new AMC II. The price point was on point and I really like the duo tone. Only knowing what I've reviewed and read, I did a strip and inspection when I got her. Overall fit and finish is very good, tight tolerances, mag drops free, smooth slide action, zero rattles, snug bushing fit, small take up on trigger with a distinct break and finely polished feed ramp. I have yet to break her in but I hope she shoots as good as she looks.Attachment 174888Attachment 174889

I want to work up a load efficiently, primary use is target shooting and hunting with semi-auto's. What I do now is load 5 cartridges at the minimum...

I want to work up a load efficiently, primary use is target shooting and hunting with semi-auto's. What I do now is load 5 cartridges at the minimum charge, 5 more 0.5 gr heavier, etc., stopping 0.5 gr below max. charge. For example: starting charge is 26.0 gr, max. Is 29.5. I load and shoot (5) each of 26.0, 26.5, 27.0, 27.5, 28.0, 28.5, 29.0, and check for pressure signs along the way.

In this example, best accuracy was 28.5gr.

To "dial-in", does it make sense to try 28.4gr and 28.6gr? How "far" do you check e.g.28.1 to 28.9 in 0.1 increments? Put another way how many 0.1 grains wide is an accuracy node?

Lastly, when do you start tweaking OAL (if at all)? Do you completely nail down the powder charge first?

Been awhile since I've shot anything, much less a competition...

1st stage for me, our clubs "6th stage", where they bring in real life scenarios....

Been awhile since I've shot anything, much less a competition...

1st stage for me, our clubs "6th stage", where they bring in real life scenarios. this was a house clearing. 1st bad guy dispatched quite effectively. 2nd bad guy dispatched quite effectively. 3rd bad guy dispatched... oh crap, that wasn't a bad guy, the was little timmy standing directly behind the door as I opened it. RSO, stated that 75% of non LEO shot timmy... however, 50% of LEO shot timmy. As we're walking out, he said, did you see the guy hiding under the table... oh crap again.

2nd stage, 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0!

3rd stage, 0-0-0-0-0-1-0-0-0! However, my firearm jammed while trying to clear it. Fired the last round to clear it.

4th stage, don't recall the score, it had a swinging target and I suck at those... firearm jammed again, this time RSO wanted me to force the slide open, and I got the round to eject.

5th stage what score, this time I couldn't clear it no matter what I did. RSO slammed his hand on the handle and the "case" ejected leaving the bullet in the chamber. Great, and I couldn't get slide lock to lock back. Match director let me borrow his squib rod.

6th stage... {sigh} it got steadily worse. First round wouldn't fire and firearm was jammed solid. Finally got the round ejected and said I'm done for the day. Stuck the round backwards in the mag so I could look at it closer when I got home, but it bugged me, so I looked at it again... effin SRbC :( So, I started the stage again. 4th shot, no go, and firearms jammed AGAIN. I said I'm done, let's get this thing cleared!

Perfect storm of issues.
Apparently, my never ever fail comp gun was dirtier than I thought and something got into the chamber that was preventing the rounds from properly seating.

This was compounded by a fairly recent decision to lighten up on the crimp, for no other reason then just because. Crimp was so light that bullets would slide out with very little effort.

I "thought" my sorting procedure would always catch a .380... but apparently not.

I only had about 1k rounds with light crimp, they are all reprocessed now. I need to get a squib rod made up. And, I need to get this dirty thing cleaned up!
