Dell announced two new Precision workstation: the small form factor (SFF) Precision T1700 (also available in a larger mini tower model) and the Precision R7610 2U rackmount. CADplace has a good overview article “Dell Precision Workstations go to the extremes : the extremely powerful Precision R7610 rack workstation & the extremely small Precision T1700”.

The SFF tower (about 30% smaller in size than competitor products) supports the AMD FirePro 2270, while the mini tower support graphics cards that can draw up to 150 watts of power for the creation of mid-tier 3D content.

Dell’s Precision R7610 Rack Workstation is the worlds fastest 2U rack system. One rack workstation with 4 AMD FirePro GPUs (e.g. FirePro W5000) can service 4 users simultaneously, working on very demanding graphics tasks, on-site or in different locations.

New features + performance boosts in Adobe Photoshop CC and Premiere Pro CC using open standards

AMD and Adobe recently announced expanded OpenCL support for Adobe Premiere Pro CC at NAB 2013, including multi-stream and mixed format 6X accelerated workflows with real-time effects, color grading and finishing with hardware-accelerated rendering to the chosen final destination format.

Premiere Pro CC: Today AMD announced support for additional OpenCL-accelerated features with the announcement of Adobe Premiere Pro CC including OpenCL hardware-powered rendering with Adobe Media Encoder CC for Adobe Premiere Pro CC projects and multi-GPU support. This enables users to queue up multiple Adobe Premiere Pro CC projects to be rendered using all available GPU horsepower in the background. There are now over 40 GPU-accelerated features using OpenCL in Premiere Pro CC.

PhotoShop CC: New and enhanced Adobe Photoshop CC features have also been added to the dozens of existing open hardware accelerated features in Adobe Photoshop CC:

Adobe's all-new Smart Sharpen filter leverages OpenCL and AMD graphics technology to sharpen images faster1 while minimizing halo effects on distinct edges and providing precise noise reduction control

The enhanced Blur Gallery harnesses the power of OpenCL and AMD graphics technology to deliver mouse-down previews quickly, accurately and with high on-screen resolution of up to a million pixels. High quality instant on-screen and in-context feedback allows artists to work more efficiently without unnecessary disruptions to the creative workflow. Non-destructive hardware-accelerated Blur Gallery effects are applied as Smart Objects to create a desired look for images and even video within Photoshop CC

Performance enhancements have also been made to the Liquify effect so that creative professionals can now push, pull, rotate, reflect, pucker, or bloat selected image areas to achieve unique artistic effects with greater speed2 while working with even the largest images

Both Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Premiere Pro CC fully support advanced display technologies such as 4K and AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology.

The OPTIS North America Lighting Materials & Design Conference May 14, in Detroit Michigan, brings together latest OPTIS technologies to address core challenges in advanced product design with the integration of lighting in advanced material concepts.

THEIA-RT optimized with AMD FirePro and OpenCL lets you manipulate high detail models in real time with physically correct lighting across multiple displays or in virtual reality centers. Engineers or designers simply drag and drop physically correct materials and light sources to achieve immediate photorealistic representation creating time to consider multiple design variants or ergonomic issues in any environment, within any lighting scenario, day or night, all in real time. The conference is focused on product creation and engineering methods/technology that change the game in everything from automotive to consumer good.

AMD FirePro will be presenting and exhibiting at the conference.

AMD FirePro is at Adobe Max 2013 showing example of their work with Adobe to accelerate Premiere Pro, SpeedGrade, and After Effects using OpenCL.

If you haven’t seen the news from NAB, the chart below (from the FireProGraphics.com Adobe mini site) gives some initial results of how Premiere Pro CC performs when accelerated by AMD FirePro workstation graphics and OpenCL compared to CPU only and also compared to Nvidia Quadro workstation graphics and CUDA. This test applied several high quality effects (filters) to video footage in real-time, such as color matching, adjustments to compensate for gamma irregularities and color shifts, color layering, primary and secondary color correction, including many effects from Adobe’s Lumetri Deep Color Engine. The test then measured the time to render the effects In and Out.

Below are pics from Adobe MAX and the FirePro booth showing Premiere Pro CC running on an AMD FirePro W8000 and HP Z80 workstation.

APU13, the AMD Developer Summit 2013 will be held Nov. 11-14, 2013 in San Jose, CA at the McEnery Convention Center. The 3rd annual developer summit will draw the architects and pioneers of the heterogeneous computing era, spanning silicon design, software development and tools, academia and emerging technologies.

The APU13 agenda includes two new programs this year:

    The summit will feature a series of updates from HSA Foundation members that are collectively working to build a standards-based heterogeneous compute (HC) ecosystem. HSA defines interfaces for parallel computation and enables high bandwidth access to memory and high application performance at low power consumption. Additionally, HSA supports a diverse set of high-level programming languages, thereby creating the next foundation in general purpose computing;
APU13 will also hold its first AMD Ventures Innovation Summit to highlight software and application development companies that utilize and expand uses for AMD solutions.

Call for Presentation Proposals
AMD invites pioneers of next-generation software and the rapidly growing field of heterogeneous computing to share their latest work and research findings in the form of presentations. Presenters will have an opportunity to advocate new methodologies and paradigms, garner support for industry standards, and network with developers, innovators and academics who will help define the course of this technology. Presentation proposals are invited on the following topics:

    Heterogeneous Computing
    Web Technologies
Cloud Computing – Servers & Data Center
    Gaming and Consumer Graphics
    Innovative Client Experiences
    Multimedia Processing
    Professional Graphics and Visual Computing
    Programming Languages and Models
    Programming Tools
    Security

Presentation proposals must be submitted by May 10, 2013. All proposals will be reviewed by an APU13 board composed of researchers, academics and practitioners in the field. Selected candidates will be notified on or before June 7, 2013.
