of being a "twenty-something!" Today I turned the big 2-9! I am so grateful to see a new age! I'm enjoying a little couch time (while Troy hangs curtains in the living room) to share with you some details about my stupendous birthday weekend!

I'm SUPER excited about my birthday gift from Troy...

YES!! That's right folks! I'm FINALLY the owner of a KitchenAid Stand Mixer!! I've wanted one for years!! Her name is Gretel!! And she looks so nice in the kitchen. I'll have more pictures later, but here's one I snapped on the iPhone after setting her up on Friday night.

Then, if Friday's fun gift wasn't enough, on Saturday my BFF's spoiled me with some quality time, a beautiful cake, and birthday decorations! I came home from Publix and to my surprise Regina had decorated the living room.

And Allison brought cake!!! Which I love! Check out the Celtics green!

Us girls then headed to a private yoga class at my yoga studio which was a very light class just to ease them into the yoga practice that I oh so love! All smiles afterwards.

After a good workout of course you need food. So off to PF Chang's to pick up our to-go order and head back to the house to eat and relax.

Regina enjoyed the balloons as you can see in this picture. Balloon volleyball.

After lots of movie and tv-watching, some games, LOTS of laughter and lounging around the house we finally headed out to dinner before calling it a night.

It's been a great weekend and I'm so blessed that these three ladies took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate with me. As for Gretel, thanks to a gift card from Charity, I plan to get the ice cream maker attachment to Gretel soon!!! I had just pinned it on Pinterest this week! That Charity, she knows me so well!!

Alrighty folks, thanks for tuning in on the birthday details. It's been a great one! So grateful to Jesus for EVERYTHING! He's given me such a beautiful life filled with joy, peace, and love. And for that, I owe Him EVERYTHING!! So, here's to this new year and seeing all the many ways in which He continues to develop me! I'm beyond excited about it!!

the frame project continues....

and I'm SUPER excited to finally have found a pillow set up on the bed that I like. I've been playing around with various throw pillows for months. I think, for now, we have a winner with these shams I purchased from West Elm this weekend.

I felt bad about tossing the blue pillows from the bed so they are on the ottoman in the meantime. Looks so much better. I also rolled down the duvet so the bed wouldn't be as puffy looking. Still a work in progress but I like it 10 times better than how it looked before.

Okay, back to work. Time to do some measurements on the wall!

I am officially addicted to yoga. I've been going for about four months now and I literally do NOT like missing my weekly yoga classes. It has become a high priority and my body actually misses it when I miss my regular classes. I love yoga so much that I've been thinking of ways to incorporate it into my work routine and guess what, there are ways to enjoy yoga at work! So passing on some of the things I've found!

There are so many cool ways you can incorporate yoga at work as seen above here. These websites here and here also give some examples. Whose with me?! Who will add at least one stretch or posture at their desk with me? (although, you may want to close your door before trying some of these!)

Speaking of postures. I am dreaming of the day when I have enough yoga strength to master these babies!

how cool do these look?!! my upper body strength is getting better and better with each passing week. So, in about, hmmmm...5 years I should be able to do this!

In the meantime, let's keep it simple with some yoga at the desk!!

The next bedroom project is underway--the wall gallery! While in Charlotte for work on yesterday I made a trip to IKEA to pick up one of each size of the RIBBA frame. The goal was to make newspaper cut outs of each size and determine what layout I want and then go to IKEA next week while in Atlanta to purchase the exact frames that I will need.

I've become semi-obsessed with wall galleries thanks much to Pinterest and a few blogs.

Super cute right? Anywho, here's an iPhone sneak peak at what's going on over here:

It's Like the First Day of School!!

BUT SO MUCH BETTER!!! Yesterday was my first court appearance all by myself!!! I had a short bench trial in Fort Mill, South Carolina and it was so much fun I must say! And, just like on the first day of school when your mom takes your picture with the lunch box in hand, Troy took my picture with my fancy case in hand! Because Fort Mill is about 2 hours away I left so early in the morning it was still dark outside hence the darkness outside the front door.

It was pretty much the most exciting day of my career thus far and I've had some pretty exciting days! Now I'm waiting to find out the judge's ruling. But, if I do say so myself, I think I ROCKED it!! I'll update the post once I find out the result!!

Wanna Know How To Paint Curtains?

Well you've come to the right place! Recall, that I planned to paint curtains using a stencil from Cutting Edge stencil. My right hand is sore and my legs are too, but the curtains are done and I'm excited to show you how it all went down!

Materials:
2 packs of IKEA Vivian Curtains [each pack has 2 panels]
Cutting Edge Stencil [Missing Link Allover Stencil]
Acrylic Paint [I chose silver]
Fabric Medium [to keep paint from being all crackly when it dries]
Paint Roller
Drop cloth for floor
Painters Tape [to hold everything down]

The pictures will speak for themselves from here on out...

Each panel looked better than the one before since I learned a few tricks with each panel. My first panel took me 2 hours to paint but the fourth panel took me only 50 minutes. I let them dry about 2 hours each and then hung them. Tada!!

I was trying to be fancy with the camera by tilting it when taking the picture.

I like how the squares on the curtains play off the squares on the duvet.

And the color of the curtains ties in with the ottoman at the foot of the bed!

And really, these pictures (and my not high quality digital camera) really do not do the curtains justice!! They look so nice in the room and bring us one step closer to slowly bringing this room together. Next up, I need to get some things up on the walls!

Things to Come....

It's been a fun week. Vacation from work, trip to Virginia with Troy, I finally baked a cake from scratch for the first time this year (it's been too long!!), and we finally got the curtain rods hanging so I can start my curtain project. I plan to post on all of those things, but I tell ya' I really need a TWO week vacation so I can use the second week to tell you all about the first week!

What's more, to add to the excitement, I am sitting by my phone waiting for my mom or sister to call to say "the eagle has landed!" My sister is due on September 15th (Thursday!!) and I've been hoping that my niece, Miyah, would come this weekend. Well, that didn't happen so now I'm just waiting for the bat signal and hopefully it will all work well so that I can leave the moment she goes into labor and head to Atlanta.

So, yeah, lots of exciting things going on this way. I just need to find time to put together the video clips and pictures from Virginia, upload the pictures from baking/curtains, etc... so that I can sit and write a post.

Oh, I'll also add that I read The Help, all 530 pages, on vacation and it was so good!! Definitely a great vacation read! It was the first fiction book I've read since college! I read another short book also on child birth and it, too, was an excellent vacation read!

Okay, enough babbling on things to come. Just know there are good posts headed your way! I'm currently waiting for these painted curtains to dry so I can see if I should hashtag #winning or #epicfail as a result.

How Many Posts Can I Make About Our Bedroom Makeover without Actually Showing the Bedroom?

No more. "After" pictures are finally here! But first, an explanation on what has taken me so long and why I gave up and decided to go on and post now! I wanted to do a proper before/after entry last week but I've been waiting to upload old pictures of our bedroom. However, due to some technical difficulties (my computer is keeping me from accessing my external hard drive which has all old picures--appointment at Apple Store on Saturday) I'm having to resort to two pictures that I happened to have saved to shutterfly in order to give you a look at the "before" of our bedroom and a peek at a few "after" pictures. Once I get some better "before" pictures I'll update this post.

Okay, now! Where'd we leave off? Oh yes, we painted our room, got rid of every single piece of furniture and the mattress (and the TV) and basically started over from scratch. The only thing that stayed was the carpet (which is in our room because the master bedroom is not original to the house, so no pretty hardwood floors).

Here's what the room looked like when we viewed it in January 2010, days after being on the market. Gotta love staging:

Isn't the paint color close to some of the inspiration pics?! I'll be back with more details on some of the plans for the immediate future, like my stencil curtain project which I hope to work on while on vacation in September!!! But, for now, we're loving the new room! And, yes, the plastic is still on the TV per Troy's request. The man is odd! But, I love him!!

Hope you enjoy the before/after. There's still so much more I want to do in here but the biggest parts have been done!! Whaddaya think?!

TWO MORE DAYS!!!

Furniture arrives on Wednesday morning!! Electrician just left putting in an outlet on the wall that the media console & tv will sit in front of. We're all set!! AND, I purchased white curtains this weekend for my curtain DIY project. Now I'm just waiting for the stencil to come in. So much to look forward to! Stay tuned!

DIY Pillow . . . Again. But Easier.

Remember when I made pillows last year? Well, I'm at it again but this time it took me less than 20 minutes and I didn't need a sewing machine!! AND I didn't even have to go to a fabric store and gauge how much fabric I'd need. Basically, this was so easy anyone can do it. So here's what you'll need:

2 20x20 dinner napkins (got mine from World Market)

sewing tape

iron

scissors

pillow insert or filler

that's all folks!

And here's all it takes. Take your two napkins and set one to the side (Napkin 1). Take the other and cut it in half evenly (Napkin 2). See Napkin 2 cut in half below.

Place the cut portions of Napkin 2 side by side with the design of the fabric facing down (as pictured above). But, unlike the picture above, place the cut middle of Napkin 2 on the outside, this will allow the non-cut sides to be your flap on the back, nice and even. (If that doesn't make sense, basically, look at the picture above. turn each of the two sections so that the white cut edges are on the outside and not on the inside as shown above). Place Napkin 1, fabric down, over the cut napkin. It will look like this.

Now all that's left is to seal this sucker with some no-sew tape. Before you begin no-sew sealing the the pillow, bring one of the halves of Napkin 2 over some of the second half of Napkin 2 so that you will have an overlap on the back of your pillow. Then simply close the outer sides of the napkins with no-sew tape and an iron.

Cut off the small piece that is left hanging on the side. And once it's all taped together flip that sucker inside out. You can then stuff it with a pillow insert, a pillow, or, what I did here, any type of stuffing. I used the stuffing to give the pillow a "down pillow" look. And here she is. Less than 20 minutes. It took me longer to try to find the proper wording to explain what I did than it took for me to actually make the pillow!

And in back I just used some velcro strip from Target that just keeps it sealed all purdy in back. Here's picture of the back.

isn't she a beaut?! I can't wait to see how she looks on the new bed with new bedding. All of which should take place on August 17th when the furniture arrives!! So, there ya have it. Quick and easy way to turn inexpensive napkins into an expensive looking "down" pillow! Quick recap:

The napkins were $3.99 each. So total cost for the pillow was $7.98 (I already had all the other items). Can't beat that!

While waiting for the arrival of our new furniture (August 17th is delivery date!!), I've been hit by the DIY (aka "do it yourself") bug!! Thanks to my newest addiction known as Pinterest, I've been motivated to DIY our curtains for our room. But, I want to wait until the furniture is in the room and the new duvet is on the bed before I make any other big decor steps. So, in the meantime, I can share with you what I'd like to do and my inspiration.

You see, I realized that I didn't want just plain white curtains in our room since the bedding is solid white. So, I decided on white curtains with touches of blue. Not too little. But not too much. Thus, I turned to Target, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Ikea, World Market, Overstock, etc... and NOTHING!! Not one thing that I liked and there were very slim pickings in the category that I was looking for. That's when I turned to my trusty friend Pinterest and typed in "painted curtains" and look at these two in particular that turned up in my search:

You can't even tell they're painted right?!! So yeah I'm inspired and I think I'm going to take white curtains and paint them with stencil in this pattern. I'm pretty excited about it!! Here's the stencil on a wall for visual effect.

Welp, that's the plan! Stay tuned to see how it unfolds. But, the DIY bug doesn't stop at the curtains. This week I did a small little project that I'm pretty pleased with. More about that later!

We Heart Regina!

My college BFF Regina Hinson is taking the bar today and tomorrow so please everyone out there send loving thoughts her way!! We go back to college days:

And on the day of my wedding, she was right beside me as my beautiful maid of honor.

And although she's been busy in law school the past 3 years, she's made her way to Greenville for my first Homecoming since graduation and our house warming. And of course Troy and I traveled to UNC for her graduation this past May!

So, as you can see, this is one special lady in my life and I want to let her know that I am thinking of her and excited for all that is headed her way!! Granted, she won't read this anytime soon since she's currently deep into the North Carolina bar exam. But, anyway, everyone, if you remember, say a special prayer for my friend that she remains calm and at peace while she rocks the NC bar exam!!!

It Is Finished!

Sorta. The painting of our master bedroom was completed on Friday and geez o' pete it looks good! BUT, I won't be able to show you pictures of the room all nice and empty until Sunday or Monday when we move out all of our old furniture (we're giving it to a friend who is moving into a new apartment). Once the room is all empty I'll snap some pictures and show you!! It'll be empty for a while... that is, until our two new pieces arrive! Well, three new pieces. We've ordered a bed, media chest, and a new mattress.

So, now that the paint is done, let's talk furniture!! It's going to be a piece by piece process because I have a few projects I want to do with the room. But for now, we've ordered

I'd also love to add a (1) storage ottoman at the foot of the new bed, (2) a small table with a cute lamp on it and a wall of frames above it on one of the side walls in the room, (3) a nice chair for relaxing, and potentially (4) one more chest if the media chest and storage ottoman don't provide enough storage. Oh, and of course we'll need (5) a new TV to sit on the media chest. So yeah, a step-by-step process for sure because like momma used to say, "Money don't grow on trees!"

In the meantime, I'll just keep looking for inspiration on pinterest and finding more ideas!

So The Inspiration Has (Slightly) Changed...

Yesterday, I told you that we're finally moving forward in our bedroom re-do!! Last March I shared two pictures that would serve as inspiration for our bedroom makeover. Well, things have changed just a bit. Instead of a light to medium blue paint, we've decided to GO BOLD with a deep blue or bluish gray hue. So now, meet some of our new inspiration:

So, to review, the master bedroom game plan is as follows:

deep blue walls (Night View or Pitch Cobalt both by Valspar)
bright white trim
dark wood furniture (more on that later)
light crisp bedding
white curtains (with some type of pattern)
silver accents (lamps, knobs on media chest)

Aaaaaaaat Laaaaaaassssst...

My room is coming along!!! (if you don't get the song reference click here). Remember how long ago it was when I mentioned that I wanted to totally redo our bedroom--new paint & new furniture? Yeah, that entry is dated March 2010. Well, FINALLY we are making major steps toward getting it done!

What's that? Sample paint colors? Yes mam! We've narrowed it down to two wall colors and tonight we put the colors on the wall to test them out. They're up now and drying as we speak. Stay tuned... painting takes place next Thursday and Friday so this is going to be a quick turn around. And there's more exciting developments along the way!

For you are miiiiiiiiiiiiiiine, at last!!!,

A Few Things...

So much has happened since I last blogged, celebrated 3 years of marriage, went to D.C. for work for 9 days (the longest I've ever been away from home since Troy and I got married), went to Myrtle Beach, saw Regina graduate from law school, visited Morgan in Atlanta for her birthday, quick trip to Charleston, and a few other things I'm just not remembering at the moment. Blog entries to come to cover at least some of those things!
I have a new toy--Pinterest!! You can collect all kinds of things in one place. I think it's genius!!
I haven't baked in so long it's not funny. So, I've taken a stance and made myself bake something this past Saturday (which I found on pinterest). Details on that later.
I've started yoga!! And I'm loving it!!
Starting next month (July) I'm beginning a food related challenge. I'm going to go "vegetarian" 2 days a week in July, 3 days a week in August, and 4 days a week in September. The goal is not to give up meat, but to make myself eat more vegetables and just be more aware of the food that I intake each day. I am also hoping to practice substituting no-so-healthy snacks with things like fruit, cheese, etc... I'm looking forward to it and I'll be blogging about how it goes. I've started saving meals on my pinterest!!
We're getting a grill!! And I've been youtubing how to grill things! I'm pretty excited about it! And, one final pinterest mention, I've started collecting grilling recipes/ideas on pinterest!
It's baby central over my way!! No, not me. But practically everyone else I know!!! It's a super exciting time!
Oh, I'm going to see WICKED in Atlanta in September!!! YES!!!! So excited to see it again!!

Birthday Surprise!

Troy turned a whopping 29 yesterday! This year we were in Jacksonville on his birthday weekend for a conference so we celebrated his birthday a little early and I let him "open" his gift a few weeks early. You see, this year I decided to get Troy something that he's been talking about as long as we've been married. According to Troy, "Every man needs a truck!" He's said it at least 100 times over the past three years. I can actually think of a few times when having a truck would've actually been quite helpful so maybe he's a little bit right.

Anywho, so I decided about a month ago that I wanted to really surprise Troy and get him a truck for his birthday. Nothing too fancy, nothing brand new. Troy is a very simple and unmaterialistic man and I knew I had to find the perfect truck that had an old man feel to it but was not a hunk of junk since it has to sit in my drive way! So the search began and within weeks I found the perfect truck!!

Long story short, thanks to help from Cody (he came with me to see the truck, ask all the right questions, look under the hood, test drive it, etc...) I found the perfect truck for Troy. Now since it was a big purchase and I also wanted to make sure he liked the truck, I told the man selling it that I definitely wanted to purchase the truck but wanted Troy to see it first. So I went home and told Troy that I needed him to ride with me somewhere for something. Thankfully, he didn't put up a fuss and he came with me!!

It was perfect!! We pulled into the place where the guy was going to meet us and there was a mobile animal clinic so Troy looks at me and is like, "Did you buy a dog?!" Which really, I thought was hilarious because I am NOT an animal person and he knows it! So he clearly was so suspicious of where we were going that he started asking crazy questions like did I secretly buy a dog?! But this was a perfect opportunity to throw him off so I just sat and smiled and said "well, we are meeting a man whose bringing something."

The guy with the truck (Steve) drives in front of us and parks behind my car and I tell Troy, "the reason we're here is because I wanted to give you your birthday gift. That's it behind us!" I then have to hurry and pull my camera out to catch his surprise face! Man, my pictures don't do it justice. He was SOOOOO surprised!! I've never gotten him this good in the seven years we've known each other. It was priceless and it made giving this gift mean more to me than I could ever articulate!!

Here are some pictures to semi recreate what happened!

Me: "You nervous about what we're doing here?" Troy's face:

(and yes, he brought a book along with him as he usually does because he thinks we're going shopping. He brings a book along while I shop. If he finishes the book, it's time to go!)

Me: "That's your birthday gift behind us!" (Shunta rushes to grab camera)

We get out to look at the truck. Pictures don't show it but he kept laughing and smiling FROM EAR TO EAR entire time!!

Troy: "I can't believe you bought me a truck?!!!" He said that about thirty times!!

And here's him driving away in his new truck...who has yet to be named!! It's SO the perfect truck for Troy!

It was so great and a moment I'll always remember in our friendship, relationship, and marriage. I tell ya, I can only imagine how Oprah feels when she gives away things because it really is such a great feeling! The surprise on someone's face is priceless!! Oprah, if you're reading my blog (ha!! did anyone else laugh out loud on that one?), can I just say that you are so right in how you describe how good it feels to surprise someone!!

That's what's going on around here folks-- we have a new addition to our family, lil red yet-to-be-named truck. We like to take drives in him at night and it's pretty fun. Troy's so excited about having a truck and he's actually been doing pretty good with not driving it all the time. It's supposed to be for when he needs it to do things around the house, etc... not a replacement for his car.

Let's take a look at the office and how much that room has changed. When we first visited the house this was immediately Troy's favorite room. We learned that this used to be a screened in porch that was later closed in. I thought it'd make a great library and Troy wanted it to be an office so we were pretty much on the same page. It's definitely one of our favorite rooms in the house! I think aside from the basement, it's Troy's favorite room for sure!

Unfortunately, I have not done a good job of taking pictures over time so the pictures below jump from the beginning to now. So no fun over time pictures. Here's how the room looked before we purchased the house...

Just a plain room with two chairs and a painting on the wall. We didn't change the paint color because it's a great neutral tone. Here's how the office looks today...

Because the room is so small I decided to make a little video to give you a better idea of what the office looks like. You can watch below or here on YouTube.

Now that you've seen the office, let's talk about the things that I need to do. Not as much as in the living room!

Small square table under window. That will hold the wireless printer which is on our "to buy" list. I'm waiting to finish our bedroom because the table that will go in the office is currently being used there.
Hem curtains. That one speaks for itself!
Bookshelf tops. Still trying to figure out what to do on top of each bookshelf. Stay tuned...
Side nook. Figure out what in the world to do in that nook/cubby I showed you.
Mirror hanging above ottoman. I really like round mirrors and thought adding one would add to the cozy feel in that room! It's so cozy in there at night!
Desktop. In the long run would love to get a mac desktop!
