Jr./Sr. High Youth Group Schedule is as follows:

• Wednesday Evenings-Jr. & Sr. High D-Groups meet from 6-8 pm at the Youth Center.
• Youth Praise band practice meets Sunday at 4:00 pm in the Youth Center

The current lessons that the Jr. & Sr. High are using is put out by Student Life Bible Study. This year, we are doing an in-depth study on the Character.

The Old Testament is full of amazing stories about remarkable people. From the very beginning, God has been at work in people’s lives, whether kings, prophets, judges or ordinary individuals. By looking at how God worked in their lives, we see God’s character, His love and provision, His judgment and discipline, and His redemptive plan for humanity.

Character reveals how people of the Old Testament encountered God in amazing ways and their lives were drastically changed. In this study your students will be challenged to see how an encounter with God will change their lives forever.

Each Monday, Ryan will email out a link to an online .pdf file with a Family Devotion over the previous day’s lessons. If do not receive this email and would like to get it, please email him at: ryan@fccharlingen.com.

Sr High Swimming Party on June 21st

The Sr. High (9th-12th Grade) will be having a swimming party at the home of Kathy Rogers on Sunday evening June 21st from 5:30-7:30 pm.

We will be grilling out hamburgers for dinner. You are welcome to invite friends, just let us know so we can prepare adequate food.

I will be gone to Jr. High camp for this event.

I am still looking for volunteers to be at this event to help chaperone.

Please respond to this quickly so I can purchase the food and get everything lined up before I go to camp.

The Jr. High will be having a swimming part at the home of Kathy Rogers this coming Sunday, June 7th from 5:30-7:30 pm. We will be grilling out hamburgers.

I will be gone to Sr. High camp for this event. Gene Palmos and Jennifer Gonzalez have volunteered to chaperone this event.

2009 Midwinter Retreat

The theme this year is “YOU”. The main points we will be driving home are “Your Life Story”, “Your Relationship with God”, and “Your Mission”. We want to help the students realize how God created them for a personal relationship with Him, and how He wants to use them and their life story to make an impact in their communities and in the world. Our worship will be led by Price Hill, which includes Tyler Murphy, Kevin Gibbs, and several other members. Our speakers will then inspire your students and draw them closer to God by discussing the three points listed above.

The 9th-12th grade Midwinter is February 6-8, and the 6th-8th grade Midwinter is February 20-22, 2009.

Registration is $50.00 per person. Pre-registration deadline is January 5, 2009.

You can get a registration form from the youth section on the wall in the church foryer or directly from Ryan.

CIY’s Discipleship Retreat

What is Discipleship?
CIY Discipleship is a weekend event designed to guide students and leaders in answering that question. Discipleship provides life application on the things that really matter.

Discipleship is following the life and example of Jesus. It’s living centered to the cross. It’s seeking daily to know what it means to abide in Him. Jesus said that if we remain in Him, He will remain in us, and that we will bear much fruit. Now, the question is: How do we do that?

Why should I go?
Intentional relationships can change youth groups. Discipleship weekends are built around relationships. Students will be given the chance to ask any question they might have, big or small. They will be guided to look for answers with friends, group leaders, and the speakers themselves. Discipleship is also a great event for you to bring all the adults that make up your ministry team. There will be several opportunities for leaders to gather at round-table discussions to talk about life in youth ministry.

A one-shot weekend event is never enough to consistently propel students toward fruitful lives. That is why every person attending CIY Discipleship will receive a “beyond the event” 40-day journal to help begin the path toward spiritual maturity. It is a resource designed to encourage relationships and implement ministry plans as we move to become disciples of Jesus together.

This Year’s Theme: Abide
CIY Discipleship’s 2009 theme, “Abide”, will tackle what it looks like to remain rooted in the vine.

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing (John 15:5, NASB).

· Are you students abiding in Christ? Are you?
· What is the focus of your students? What’s your focus?
· Do you see fruit in your ministry?

Just wanted to remind you all about See You At the Pole tomorrow.

See You at the Pole™ is a student-initiated, student organized, and student-led event. That means this is all about students meeting at their school flagpole to pray—for their school, friends teachers, government, and their nation. See You at the Pole™ is not a demonstration, political rally, nor a stand for or against anything. See You at the Pole™ is scheduled annually on the fourth Wednesday in September, which is September 24 in 2008. The suggested starting time is 7 a.m. If that doesn't work for your school, choose a time that will work for your school, but let everyone at your school know!

I want to encourage each of you to attend this event.

I will be at the airport getting ready to get on a plane. I made my reservations before I realized what day it was. However, I will be praying for you all. See you in a week, God Bless.

Fields of Faith-October 8th

Fields of Faith is a student-to-student event. Peers invite their own classmates and teammates to meet on their school’s athletic field to hear fellow students share their faith testimonies, challenge them to read the Bible and to come to faith in Jesus Christ.

Fields of Faith will be at Boggus Stadium at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, Oct 8th.

For those who need a ride, we will meet at the Youth Center and leave by 6:15 pm. Please sign up with Ryan as soon as possible to ensure adequate transportation is available.

Praise on the Hill will be Saturday, October 11th at Mc Kelvey Park. Performers will be: Caedmon’s Call, Bethany Dillon, and John Waller. The FCC Jr. and Sr. High Youth will be responsible for selling Pizza, Drinks, and Candy. Proceeds for this fundraiser go towards CIY and Summer camp registration. Youth Group July Start-Up

Well, camp and CIY are over and it’s finally time for Youth Group to start back up. Please read all the updates below.

Sr. High: There has been a slight change for the Sr. High Youth Group set up for the fall. Sr. High Discipleship groups will meet on Wednesday nights rather than on Sundays. D-groups will begin on Wednesday 9th. We will not meet on Wednesday, July 3rd due to so many people being gone for the 4th of July.
The Sr. High Guys night out will be moved to Friday, July 25.

Jr. High: Jr. High Youth Group will begin this Sunday, July the 6th.

Sr. High & Jr. High Paintball is next Tuesday, July 8th-10:00 am to 2:30 pm.
o Where: Valley Paint Ball, Donna, TX.
o Cost: $20.00 per person if you have no equipment (Marker/gun; paintballs, mask). $10.00 per person if you bring your own equipment (Marker/gun; paintballs, mask). We will meet at the church at 9:30 am and return by 3:00 pm. Please reply to Ryan ASAP if you have not already signed up.

Final CIY Meeting

CIY 2008 Final Parent/Student Meeting

CIY time is near. Everything that we have been working towards is just a week away. I can't believe it. Our week alone with GOD and each other is finally coming to pass. I am so insanely EXCITED and I know you are too. So, just to make sure that we have everything we need, as we head off to Holland, MI, I have come up with a list of things to bring and things to not bring. I know that you all have MOVE'S dress code info, so I just want to stress to you HOW IMPORTANT it is to follow this rule.

People, please remember that we are not heading to Conference with anything on our minds, except drawing closer to OUR GOD and we must make sure that we do not do ANYTHING that will distract our guys/girls that are going with us on this journey. I'm going to only mention a couple of things to make sure that you understand what not to wear. If you have any further questions, make sure that you look at your MOVE Dress Code sheet or talk with me personally.

What to Bring:

Clothes for 12 days (7 days of travel, 5 days of the conference).
Bedding (there will be beds at CIY but only mattresses. Bring sheets, and a blanket or a sleeping bag; bring a pillow). During travel, we will be sleeping in several churches on the way up and back. You'll need a sleeping bag or cot to sleep on.
Toiletries (soap, DEODORANT, shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, tooth brush, hair gel, etc).
You will need towels and wash clothes for 12 days. We will do our best to do laundry on Sunday before CIY but come prepared in case we can't find a laundry mat. Bring a roll of quarters for laundry.
Extra money for the books store, a CIY t-shirt, and snacks. All meals are covered in your registration fee. But if you want anything extra, you'll need extra money.
Bible
Something to write with: pens and/or pencils
Something to write on: journal, notebook, etc.

No-No's for the Ladies:

No spaghetti strap tank tops,
No shirts that do NOT cover your stomach completely, and we do not want to see your bra straps.
Remember our check rule. Raise your arms above your head and then make sure that your stomach is covered.
All shorts must be at mid thigh.
Please try and wear tops that are your size, not too tight.
Girls, it's best just to wear regular t-shirts for the week. I promise you, if you do this, you will be more comfortable and relaxed and will be able to focus better on GOD and not be distracted by guys.

No-No's for the Guys:

No sagging pants.
No exposed boxers.
No muscle shirts, no tight shirts.
Guys, I want you to remember what the girls have told you, you distract them by what you wear as much as they distract you.

No-No's for everyone:

No CD Players,
I-pods OR MP3 Players
Stereos
Skateboards
Skates.

My final words are what I say every year. CIY MOVE is not designed for you to hook up with a girl or guy. It is designed for you to HOOK UP WITH GOD! Satan will do everything he can to make that NOT happen, including distracting you with one of GOD'S people. Don't do it, don't think about it, and please do not be miss lead in to thinking that GOD is sending you this "person". If GOD wants you to be with someone you know or meet at Conference, then it will happen after you come home.

Remember my plea….STAY FOCUSED AND CENTERED ON HIM~~

It’s time to begin preparing for Summer Camp. Registration for Jr. and Sr. Camp is $60.00 per person. if paid by Sunday, April 20th. Please turn all registration forms and payment into Ryan by this date. Checks can be made out the FCC. This registration fee covers camp registration and a camp snack bar bracelet. Camp t-shirts will be on sale for $10.00.

Darla will be taking the Jr. High the week of: June 22-27th.

Ryan will be taking the Sr. High the week of: June 8-13th.

You can get a Registration form in the Church foyer on the information wall or from Ryan. Please get a form, fill it out and turn it in to Ryan. Please do not mail it yourself. We need to get an accurate head count to adequately prepare transportation to and from camp.

Hello everyone,

RioFest is approaching quickly. It is the weekend of April 18-20th. This year, we are serving hamburgers at our booth. I am currently setting up the schedule for workers. If you are planning on attending CIY this summer, remember that this is our biggest fundraiser. If you would like to benefit from the proceeds, you must work at least one 4 hour slot during RioFest.

Contact Ryan ASAP to sign up to work while there is still plenty of flexibility in the schedule.

Moonlight Easter Egg Hunt

Come One! Come All! To the Eggstreme Annual Moonlight Easter Egg Hunt! What an Eggsperience! This eggciting eggstravaganza begins at eggzactly 6:30 pm on Good Friday, March, 21. The eggscellent location will be at the Cavasos’ house (Denise Delgado’s parents). Eggzact directions to their house will be at the Information Station in the entry way. The eggstraordinary event start with a potluck dinner with hotdogs and drinks provided. Then the Egg Hunt gets underway when it’s dark and the kids, armed with their baskets and flashlights, will begin the eggscursion. There are prizes in eggcess and confetti eggs will finish up the evening. Invite your friends and family! No one is eggscluded! It’s a wonderful time of fellowship and fun that will eggsceed your eggspectations! This is the event of the year, with no eggception!
