Madonna to Preform at Super Bowl XLVI

It’s that time of year again, time to bring out the all you can eat appetizers and tune into the big game. Unfortunately I, myself, do not claim to be a big time NFL fan. However, I make an exception when it comes to the Super Bowl! Along with a steady stream of multi-million dollar commercials is the halftime performance.

Since Janet Jackson’s not so private unveiling during Super Bowl 38, comes the hype of who will preform next. Pop and Celebrity Icon Madonna is scheduled to sing at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis come Sunday.

The material girl has promised to keep her act free of any wardrobe malfunctions.

“I promise I will be singing three old songs and one new one,” She continued. It will be “a spectacular show…for all age groups and it will be a feast for the eyes and ears.”

Madonna will also be sharing the stage with rapper Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. It sounds like a recipe for a fabulous performance. Can you say, ‘are you ready for some football?’

How to Flatter Your Eye Color with Eyeshadow

Working in retail, I see all sorts of women come in my store with all sorts of makeup and fashion faux pas. One of which is ridiculous eyeshadow. Now with any good thing, it’s best used in moderation. So today’s beauty tip is: “How to Flatter Your Eye Color with Eyeshadow”. Below I’ve compiled a list of great products for different colored eyes. And remember, if you’re going to go intense with your eyes, leave the rest of your face neutral! We don’t want to look like a drag queen gone wrong.

For Blue Eyes:

Browns and charcoals accentuate blue eyes greatly! To make your blue eyes look brightest, use a white highlight and different shades of brown or gray. Here a couple of my favorite shadows for blue eyes.

HTC Radar Review

After going through an absolute nightmare with my Samsung Sidekick 4g, I needed a new phone. About a month ago I got so sick of my 6-month- old Sidekick, I decided enough was enough and got a new phone, and boy am I glad I did.

My boyfriend surprised me with a new HTC Radar!

Let’s just start with the appearance. It’s very thin and lightweight, and is mostly white on the outside. The screen is a decent size at 4.74” x 2.42”, and is great to type on! I have yet to have an odd auto-correct, it’s like it knows what I’m trying to say.

The HTC Radar runs on Windows Phone 7.5. This operating system is like none I’ve seen before. It’s incredibly clean-running and quick, as well as very visually attractive. I am in love with this phone! The battery lasts longer than any other phone I have had, I’ve never had it die on my in the middle of the day. And it comes stock with a Zune player. The HTC Radar is like an improved iPhone, dare I say it? It’s better than the iPhone. Awesome battery life, music player, fantastic operating system, and on T-Mobile’s inexpensive 4g network, I couldn’t be happier.

I recommend this phone for anyone who’s fed up with their android or apple smartphone, this beats them out of the ballpark.

Birchbox Beauty Review

Find yourself always reaching out for the latest and most buzzed about in beauty care? Well if your anything like me, I’m always up for trying any new cosmetic products! I came across Birchbox last fall after watching a beauty guru on Youtube. I had never heard of such a service before. It’s now been four months, and I’m completely hooked!

The premise behind the company is that for $10 a month, Birchbox will send you a box full of 4-5 deluxe size samples. Below is a picture of my January Birchbox.

Keep in mind that everything the company sends out has been tried and tested by their staff of beauty experts. Each box is customized via your beauty profile, which is completed at the time of sign-up. So, your Birchbox box may differ from other subscribers. Along with a box full of goodies being delivered, there is also the how-to guide. The how-to guide helps subscribers better understand the product/company while relating to an over-all monthly theme.

After using/testing out your new samples, you will have the chance to give feedback on that months box to earn points to use towards even more full-size products!

Birchbox is it worth it? Personally, I love being able to try before I buy. It’s not guaranteed that you will love everything in each months box, but it will allow you to save money on products that you may have not liked and vise versa. There’s quite a few brands I never would have tried if it weren’t for this service, which have now become staples in my beauty regime.

Mirena Insertion Experience and Review

So to start, Mirena is an IUD (Intrauterine Device) contraceptive, which is also approved for the treatment of heavy periods. I was diagnosed with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder). I’ve dealt with large bouts of depression, immense cramping, and extreme exhaustion surrounding my menstruation, so I have been on the pill since a little after I first started getting my period.

I know there’s a taboo in our society surrounding the open discussion of birth control and menstruation, but I also know I would have wanted to read something like this before receiving my Mirena. Below is a picture of the IUD.

Mirena is not normally recommended for women who haven’t had children (I have not) but after discussing it with my gynecologist, we decided it was the best option for me as it’s easily reversible, unlike the shot or implant, and I don’t have to worry about taking it every day. It is also supposed to alleviate my PMDD symptoms, so I was all for it. Mirena lasts up to five years, and most women eventually don’t even have a period on it.

The reason, however, it isn’t recommended for women who have not had children is because the cervix has never been dilated before, so there is risk for pain with the procedure. I, unfortunately, learned this the hard way.

The procedure to insert the Mirena is simple. The IUD is placed in a tube, which in turn goes into the cervix and releases it, then the tube comes back out and the Mirena is inserted. Most doctors use a numbing spray, but mine unfortunately did not. During the procedure I was in so much pain that I just wanted it to stop. Because I’ve never had children, my cervix had never been dilated, and so this was to be expected.

After the procedure, I got up to go to the restroom and blacked out from the pain. The nurse found me in the restroom, and I had to get an ultrasound to make sure the Mirena was in the correct place, fortunately it was.

I am writing this on the second day since I received the Mirena, and the pain has gradually subsided. With a new Mirena insertion it is expected that the patient may cramp for a while after, and will also bleed. The bleeding is not as severe as the cramps, but the cramps feel as bad as the ones I had with my untreated PMDD. I have woken up several times in the night from cramps, but ibuprophen and heat help a little bit.

However, I am not sorry I got this contraception as the benefits far outweigh the shortcomings. Eventually, my period will resolve and I will not have it. Also, this will last for five years, and is more effective than the pill. Finally, it costs considerably less than other options. Because I won’t have to buy monthly supplies or the pill every month, and it was covered by my insurance. I only had to pay a one-time fee of $45.

All in all, I personally recommend this. Sometimes some initial pain is worth it in the long run! The effectiveness of alleviating symptoms and cost consciousness make this contraceptive well worth the initial side effects!

As for continued results of this operation, I will create an updated article to continue to review this product.

Emma Roberts and Chord Overstreet end Their Relationship

The young couple has reportedly ended their 9-month relationship.

Unlike the typical Hollywood romance, Emma Roberts and Chord Overstreet are ending things drama-free. US Weekly is reporting that the two stars have decided to focus on their careers, and just don’t have the time for a relationship.

In the meantime Chord will be busy wrapping up Glee. During an interview with E! News 22-year-old Overstreet said, “There’s a few things I’m looking at once the show wraps up.”

As for Emma Roberts, the 20-year-old just seems to be enjoying herself and having fun. The actress was seen flying solo during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Emma Roberts and Chord Overstreet were first spotted together last year at the Coachella music festival.

Don Cornelius Found Dead

Don Cornelius, the man who created, produced and hosted the show that transcended economic, cultural and racial barriers, was found dead. Every Saturday morning for over 30 years America tuned into Soul Train, a dance show featuring musical R&B artists.

“Before there was MTV, there was Soul Train,” explains Quincy Jones.

According to the New York Times, a 911 call was placed from Don Cornelius’ home at 4am Wednesday morning. When the paramedics arrived Mr. Cornileus was reportedly found lifeless on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head, which may have been self-inflicted.

“It was reported as a suicide, a self-inflicted wound,” the Assistant Chief Coroner of LA County tells a NY Times reporter.

Don Cornelius was pronounced dead at Sedar-Sinai Medical Center at 4:56am. Cornelius was 75 years old.

The case is still being investigated.

With designer-for-less collections becoming harder and harder to come by, Jason Wu’s collection for Target is highly anticipated.

Maybe the recent successes of Missoni for Target and Versace for H&M is just a foreshadow of what is to come with this collection, hitting Target stores this Sunday, February 5th. If the launch party last month is any prediction, the Jason Wu line for Target is going to be monumental. Celebrities such as Blake Lively, Jaime King, Emmy Rosum and Chloë Moretz came out to show their support at a revamped version of Skylight Soho in New York City by picking up a few coveted Jason Wu pieces, and enjoying party treats like Laduree macaroons.

Taking a look at the outed lookbook, this is a dream collection.

Jason Wu’s idea was to use ”that nonchalant chic, that effortless style, mixed with American sportswear.” The flirty and fun prints scream spring and femininity. Using light blue prints, navy and red stripes, and a soft black, Jason Wu for Target is runway Jason Wu for the everyday woman!
