First Gordon entered two teams (The Infected Pineapples and The Salty Snails) into the annual Raft Challenge where the scouts build and race a raft on Narrabeen Lake. Great fun! More photos at the Ku-Ring-Gai Scouts Facebook page or here .

2020 Christmas Trees

First Gordon Scouts are again this year selling Christmas Trees at the Killara Garage. To keep the trees fresh for Christmas, the pickup date is 19 December.

Details are:
Date: Saturday, December 19, 2020
Time: 7:30am – 1pm (or until sold out)
Location: Killara Garage, 544 Pacific Hwy, Killara
Order at: firstgordonscouts.org.au/xmas

This year, due to the recent bush fires, we only have 6 foot trees. And only in limited numbers. To secure your tree, we’d suggest getting your order in before Friday, December 11, 2020.

1st Gordon Cub Scouts Open Day

We had great fun at our Open Day, with families visiting the scout hall to see where we are, and what we do. Was lovely to talk with some of the parents reliving memories from their own scouting past, and now looking for the same for their own kids. And seeing how things have changed … particularly that scouts is now open to boys and girls … and that the girls have a great time scouting!

We hope to see more cubs joining the happy family at First Gordon soon.

Cub Masterchef Night

Give cubs a $5 per head budget and guidance to create a meal for the leaders and this is what you get – corn chips and Nutella, jelly snake sushi rolls, bacon and ice-cream and – hmm – not sure what that gummi-bear soup should be called. Whilst a challenging activity, the challenge was working out who to award the masterchef prize to. A few of the leaders had indigestion later…

Scout SCUBA

The scouts met at Frog Dive in Willoughby for an evening learning the principles of scuba diving. After a briefing and a safety video, the scouts were fitted with their scuba gear. Finally it was time to hit the pool and practise their underwater breathing. All the scouts managed to reach the bottom of the pool with their breathing under control. Well done, scouts!

“Weird Food” Night

Creative culinary ideas on show at Scouts “Weird Food” night. The winning dishes were couscous sushi and bacon, icecream and maple syrup. Strangely yummy!

Iceblocking!

Cubs and Scouts got together for a joint activity night, going ice blocking at Denistone. Everyone had lots of fun sliding down the hill sitting on large ice blocks. The parents stayed to enjoy the spectacle and the gorgeous sunset and a few were adventurous enough to try the ice blocks.
