Northstar Marine Electronics knows exactly what you need to get the maximum enjoyment from your boat.

To begin with , a VHF radio is a safety feature obligatory for every boat . If you or your boat is in distress, a VHF radio can make the difference between finding help right away and being left to your own devices.

The NS100 VHF radio comes in single/dual station configurations . They feature dedicated distress call button that automatically transmits your MMSID and position until an acknowledgment signal is received. It can access all marine VHF channel banks, even the weather ones.

The Northstar Explorer 721 and 725 have a built-in barometric pressure sensor that gives weather and fish activity predictions. The "Happy Fish" icon on the display helps you in determining the likelihood of finding fish. The 721 and 725 can each be outfitted with wireless handheld units, and the 725 has a "Track Your Buddy" feature for locating up to three boating friends and placing their locations on your chart display.

Northstar Marine Electronics has a range of navigation tools, including the Chartplotter 8000i, a multipurpose instrument with a 12 inch touchscreen display. If you a're going to acquire one piece of equipment in addition than a VHF radio, then you might consider the 8000i. It features the following goodies: chartplotter, depth sounder, radar, video monitor, network camera monitor, DVD player, CD player, music jukebox, fuel and engine management system, and instrument repeater.

If you are just looking for a chartplotter / sonar combo , then you should consider the Explorer series, models 660, 657, and 650. Each variation has a built in 32 megabyte background maps with intricate cartographic detail . It gives you the option of using C-MAP NT MAX chart technology provided by cartography leader C-MAP. The Explorer 538 is a stand alone chartplotter with a simple menu system and daylight viewable screen. It comes with the regular background map of 16 MB and has a place for the C-MAP NT MAX cartridge. The 3.A display of 8 inches is "transflective" featuring high contrast so you can read it in sunny days with ease. This chartplotter is a good companion electronics component with the Explorer 438 fish finder. The 438 model has a 640 by 480 monitor that gives great detail. It has digital sounder technology to give you the highest quality sonar images. Advanced displays include A-scope, split screen variable zoom, and your choice of color palette.

Did you know that one of the most important and complicated decisions you can make in marine electronics is choosing the correct battery charging system for your boat? Charging your marine batteries is a simple process of driving electrical currents into your battery in the reverse direction as the discharge occurred. Although recharging batteries can be a simple process, many things do factor into your decision and play a roll in choosing the proper charger.

The goal of our experts is to help you make an informed decision when you replace or add an on-board charging system to your vessel. You are adding value to your boat by having an on-board battery charger. In addition, these chargers also offer you the convenience and the ability to charge multiple batteries at the same time. You no longer will need to drag out a portable battery charger every time your batteries need charging. Maintaining your batteries will be as easy as plugging in your boat to any 110 volt outlet.

The first step in the process is to identify what type of batteries you have on board your watercraft. You will need to look for some specifics about the batteries you are wishing to incorporate into the charging system. You will need to determine the following:

-Voltage

-Battery type

-Amp-hour capacity

Typically, in the marine world, you will be dealing with 12-volt systems. The battery’s capacity is usually listed on the battery as “ah” or amp hour. Marine batteries will be one of the following types:

-Flooded/wet cell lead

-acidStarved electrolyte

-AMGMaintenance free

Once you know a little about the batteries you are wishing to charge, it is time to pick a charger. I know from my years of experience tournament bass fishing, picking a charger is not where you want to cut dollars. Starting and trolling system batteries are very expensive. A good quality battery charger, backed by a top manufacturer, will prolong the life of these batteries and ultimately save you money.

Chargers typically come in single, double, triple and quadruple bank systems and should have independent outputs to charge each battery separately. The battery industry recommends charging your battery at approximately 15-20 percent of its capacity. For example, a 100-amp hour battery would be best charged at 15-20 amps. For your safety, be sure the battery charger you buy is UL listed to Marine 1236 standards and FCC compliant. If you choose a charger that is too large or small for your batteries it could damage them and decrease the life by overheating, gassing and causing excessive water loss.

Depending on what type of boating you enjoy, you will need to make sure your on-board charger’s waterproof housing is designed for fresh and/or salt water. It is also important that you make sure it is vibration resistant and incorporates built-in reverse polarity protection. To prevent boil over or your battery over-heating, be sure the charger you purchase has an automatic temperature compensation, this feature adjust output depending on the temperature to assure a fast full charge in any weather conditions. We suggest getting a charger that will charge in three stages typically these stages are:

-Bulk or quick charge mode - gets your batteries charged quickly

-Absorption stage - brings your batteries to a full charge

-Maintenance or trickle charge - keeps your batteries charged and protects batteries

I personally like units that offer on-board diagnostics and LED indicator lights to let you know the state of charge or condition of your batteries.

Once you have purchased your new on-board charger make sure it is securely mounted in your boat using stainless steel fasteners. We recommend you clean your terminals, use dialectic grease and make sure all connections are tight. Following these steps will insure years of trouble free operations. We take convenience a step further on our tournament boats, we install a receptacle plug. You are then able to plug your extension cord directly into the boat without even unlocking or opening a compartment.

Before operating your charger, be sure your batteries are not run down too far. In some cases, your charger may show you have a bad connection, even though you are confident they are properly installed, if this is the case it may be necessary to apply jumper cables from another battery to the one showing connection issues, this will allow your portable charger to recognize your batteries. Our professionals have informed us that this condition occurs often during very windy days, usually when they are operating the trolling motor for extended time on a high-power setting. On these days, batteries typically are completely depleted by the end of the day. When they plug in the charger it will indicate a bad connection. Simply using a set of short jumper cables to connect the starting battery to the trolling battery for about 3-4 minutes the battery will be picked up by the charger and the bad connection light goes out. They repeat this process until all the trolling batteries are recognized by the charger.

Happy boating

Those of you who have money and plan to keep one boat forever, should buy again. If you do happen to be on a budget and skeptical about a boat, you have to buy used. Purchasing is used for some large, but not always the most glamorous choice. Oceans and lakes are filled with boats that are much richer than most. Many boats are beyond their means and financing their boats at extreme levels.

What really counts with a boat there in the water. Someone who is every weekend flying boat is a great browser. A businessman who has time to get in his 60-foot yacht once or twice a year, not as a boater at all.

If you look around at the water, you have to have the small boats in motion, while the larger vessels are not moved. The money, which are busy and have no time to go boating should not really have a boat at all.

New boats can lose, half of its value in less than 2 years. With a used boat, the owner has corrected the problems with new vessels. The previous owner took care of the concessionaire for the care of warranty.

A ship used in the rule, not much was needed at all. One boat in particular SA, it is not like a used car. You will find many boats with less than two hundred hours of engine time. For comparison, look at the number of hours on the engine of his car.

A used boat has scratches and dents, so do not feel so bad if some of his own added. When you buy your sale, you must at least take a great team on board and the necessary repairs.

A ship is usually with dock lines, life jackets, accessories, spare parts, radio, safety equipment and other supplements in Nice. New boat owners will be paying hundreds of dollars for these things.

The Joker is, of course, if the previous owner the right boat maintenance boat. Before you buy, you should always ensure that the ship from the poll, is in reasonably good condition. In this way you will know your journey to a great used boat.

Like the classic cane fishing rods, the fishing gizmo is thick at the handle ( bottom ) and is tapered and thinner at the tip. This very basic design permits handling stability and flexible movement of the entire length of the shaft.
kinds of Fishing Rods and specs
Cane Poles
Cane poles are one of the smallest and less sophisticated gizmos in fishing. It is mostly made of bamboo or other flexible wood material with the most elementary fly line attached to it.
This very same action is known as angling.
Spinning Rods
They may be employed either for heavyweight or light fish although they were proved best for trout, wall eye and bass fish.
They accommodate bigger and tougher fly lines and stabilize them to avoid line tangles during uncoiling of float lines.
Jigging Rods
They're made of fine, solid materials which accounts to their heaviness. The utilization of jigging rods is especially due to swapping currents during the fishing activity.
That's why the bait and fly lines should be kept ready. Lures are also troubled and cause bafflement among fish if the lines aren't long and sufficiently heavy to bear and tolerate water currents under the ocean.

There is no better way to experience Hawaii group tours then at a luau.

A luau is a great way to feel the “aloha” spirit of Hawaii while being entertained by the majesty of thousands of years of tradition. A luau in Kona Hawaii can be very different from other luaus on the Polynesian islands.

In all parts of the world people have historically gathered to feast and celebrate life’s events, but the Polynesian peoples of the world have turned these traditions into something that most other cultures have not. Traditionally, a luau was not just about food and friends, it is also about unity and love for all those that participate. A luau is also rich with history and symbolism that defines the Polynesian way of life.

Though some might say the all luaus are the same, there are very important differences. Each of the various Polynesian peoples of the world celebrate and gather in different ways, but there is one thing that is always common with a luau in Kona or even Oahu: Family! No matter which island in Hawaii your group is visiting, you will always be treated like family at a luau.

Simple ways to book a luau, Kona style or otherwise.

Those looking for Hawaii charter tours for business or pleasure should first look into booking a luau. Kona Hawaii alone offers several great luau options, but if your group is staying on any of the other beautiful Hawaiian Islands there are dozens of other options also available.

One easy way to book your groups Hawaii charters and other events is to find a one stop service that can help you get Hawaii group tours as one big package. This way you can save time and money. Because anyone that has tried to book a Hawaii group accommodation will tell you that it is best to keep it simple, and there is no better way to do that then with the help of one all inclusive company.

While you are shopping for a luau, Kona style, do not forget to check out other types of Hawaii group tours. Take a bike tour or a hiking tour to Kilauea to see the Earth’s life-blood spill into the ocean. The power associated with Kilauea mixed with the “aloha” of a luau, Kona style, can make any trip to Hawaii one that will never be forgotten.

Well I bought myself a Coleman Blackcat catalytic heater to use in my portable ice fishing shelter. It's a 4 person so I thought the Coleman Blackcat would "take the edge off" inside and keep the Ice Cube alittle warm. I knew it wouldn't make it REAL hot inside, just nice to keep you from getting to cold. First off, I liked that it was small and compact to keep in my fishing box. It runs on the small Coleman propane bottles and lasts up to 7 hrs on 1 bottle. I used it on 2 fishing trips on 1 bottle for about 6 hrs in total. That was using it on high all the time as well.

The temperature outside for both times that I used it was around -5 C, which isn't to cold in January but it gets alot colder in Manitoba in January than that. I'm glad it wasn't -25 C ! So after setting up the portable ice shelter, me and my wife started to fish. After sitting inside for about 2 hours, we started to get chilled. So I got the Blackcat out and sparked it up. The max setting cranks out 3000 btu's so I left it on high all the time. After about 30 minutes it warmed up inside, but not warm enough to keep us warm and comfortable. With this heater you can move it around quite easily and we had to have it very close to us to feel the little heat that it was giving off. It warms your hands and feet in time but the shelter was still alittle to cool inside for my comfort zone.

On colder days this heater won't stand up to keep a portable ice shelter warm, thats my opinion. I'm going to use this heater now for camping season. Hopefully it will keep a tent warm on a cool night out camping this year. Don't get me wrong, its a good little heater but didn't stand up when I used it ice fishing. I bought a bigger propane heater which I'll be trying out very soon and give a review on in the future. Also always remember to keep the area your in ventilated as you need fresh oxygen at all times. In my shelter I have a roof vent and kept the door unzipped alittle to allow air inside at all times.

I run a online outdoor store which I just opened recently and would like to invite you to check it out! I'm a avid outdoorsman and I wouldn't sell something that I wouldn't use myself! I'm adding products everyday and hope you might need something or if I don't have it, ask me and I'll see if I can get it for you. http://www.crkoutdoors.com/page/page/7142382.htm

When thinking of going to purchase new fishing tackle, which fishing appliances would you select? Perhaps you simply go out and buy the costliest, thinking the dearest would have to be the best or would you choose the cheapest in the hope this would do the job anyway. You might ask other anglers what they suspected or you could search the internet.

Personally when i am buying new fishing apparatus I ask fishermen mates and then I search the net for unbiased reviews of any actual item I'm after.
I remember when platted fishing line became big news, I hadn't got a clue about platted line at all, I asked all of my friends and it seemed that nobody at the time was using it.

Sometimes when purchasing new tackle it proves to be an expensive mistake, some new equipment just does not measure up to my expectations.

Now we have online auction sites, so buying some fishing tackle is not such a risk any more at least I'll sell items I do not need now. I have even been sufficiently lucky to sell items of tackle for more cash than paid for originally .
With the web comes more competition for sellers of high spec fishing tackle, this is a massive plus for anglers. Especially on online auction sites, costs on there vary such a lot, Some dealers are so cheap compared with other sellers, it makes you think how they make a profit.

This is all good news for me and you and the vendor as well , an avid dealer, selling on auction sites will sell more items than they were ever ready to sell during the past, this is what dealers need less profit but a higher turnover of stock.

the web is not such a bad place, not for a keen competitive angler anyway.

As a beginner, fly fishing can be a daunting experience with all the techniques you need to learn. But this one fly fishing lesson all beginners should memorize before hitting the water. It will not only let you and other anglers around you enjoy the experience it will help keep you safe and out of prison.

Safe you say? Well everyone has heard of road rage, when you cut someone off at an intersection and they then follow you for 20 blocks just so that they can get out of their car and assault you. Well there are also a lot of hardcore anglers out there that actually get "River Rage". There have been such extremes where one angler in a boat drift fishing down a slow river accidentally passed over another anglers pool he was fishing. That angler was some enraged over the incident he pulled a hand gun on the drift fisher.

To avoid "River Rage" and other such incidents all it takes is a bit of common sense. If you spot someone in or on the bank of the river then the first in first serve rule applies to that stretch of water. You wait until they have moved on. If you believe there is plenty of room for a second angler in that area then ask permission and accept their decision. This also goes for non-anglers on the bank. Remember as a fly fishing angler your back cast can actually go a great distance onto the bank so you need to make sure that is clear also.

So now we know how to keep safe from "River Rage" how about we stay out of prison.

In many countries fishing freshwater actually requires a permit or license to be able to fish their waters. But there are also a lot of regulations that a specific to certain rivers, areas or states. Like what species your allowed to take out of the river, how many and on what method. You will find that some waters are only allowed to be fishing by fly where others are only by spin casting. It's your responsibility to learn the regulations for your area and learn them well. In New Zealand not only can they slap you with a massive fine and confiscate not only your fishing gear but also the vehicle you used for transport to the water. In some extreme cases of anglers breaking the local regulations has resulted in prison time.

Let's stay safe and out of prison just by a little common sense and spending five minutes learning your local fishing regulations while enjoying this immensely rewarding sport.

For all Fly Fishing Beginners learning about drag, what it is and why it is not a good thing is a big step towards success as an angler. It is also one of the first basic fly fishing lessons all beginners should learn because without it you're going to fail badly.

When you are fishing on a lake you can typically let your line lie in the same place and wait for a fish to come to you. But in a river it's a different ball game. As soon as your line touches the water it's carried downstream by the current.

As the line is pulled towards you, you need to pull the slack line back through the rod, and let it lay on the ground or water beside you. This needs to be done at the same speed as the water bringing your fly towards you. If you don't then you will have a massive arc of line being pulled down stream. So what's wrong with that?

Well that's a very bad thing as it creates "drag" on the fly. It also makes it hard to pick the line off the water, ready for recasting back up stream. There are some advanced techniques that can be used to get your line airborne again without pulling it back in, but that's far beyond the skills of a beginner.

So drag is a bad thing but what really is it?

Well when you are fly fishing on a stream or river, you want your fly to move naturally with the current, fish are very, very smart, if they notice their food not moving naturally then they are unlikely to strike it. As your line drifts downstream it can pull or should I say "drag" your fly along with it especially if there are currents moving at different speeds. That looks most unnatural and is why drag is a very bad thing.

In these situations then a technique called "mending" is used to stop your fly from being dragged by different speed currents. Mending is the moving of your line while it still lies in the water. This is done by small flicks of the rod.

Let's make an example where the fly is in slow water but the line is in a faster current. The faster water will obviously pull the line downstream faster than the slow water is carrying the fly. So in this example you would flip the line towards the slower water several times. This will put slack loops in the line giving a buffer of slack curves between the fast and slow water and also helps get the line out of the faster moving current.

The combination of the slack line and trying to get your line out of the faster current gives your fly a greater chance of drifting naturally. Mending like anything with fly fishing takes practice but it doesn't take long to get the basics of mending down pact.

So if you can take control and eliminate drag from your presentation you will be well on your way to success as an angler.
