Being fit, moving my body, tracking progress over time...this are important factors in/to your Productivity Profile. What you do, what you always have near you, what you focus on all create the "how and why" of your own approach to time management.

What's next for you to engage in? (Me? I'm at the airport, people watching as await my next flight. Good times!)
Landing in town a day early (Minneapolis) today, I "stopped by" the MOA - Mall of America. Wow!

Anyway, I treated myself to an educational opportunity. I picked up a notebook - watch out...my last book got started that way! - and three books about Thomas Edison. I've already made it through half of one.

My take-away so far, "Get after it. Whatever your thing is, work on it, talk about it, think about it...write about it."

Anything I can do to help, let me know.

I was thinking the other day about the ideas of creativity, serendipity, chance and blind luck. Lucky, that's how I feel today. Yet, as a friend reminded me this morning:

"We kind of build our own foundations for luck to come our way."

Recently, Forbes.com published an article on how "wasting time" just may be a productivity technique. That in the midst of chaos, interruption, and distractions we could have our most creative moments.

I don't know... In order to get that book in to your hands, I had to learn to do the opposite of what the author of that article prescribes (Google it: "Wasting Time Can Make You A Star At Work").

What do YOU think? What project needs less organization? Which one needs more?

This is the first Monday of 2012 ... are you ready? If you are coming in to work today with a thought like, "This year, I want to get better," then I have a resource for YOU! It's a book called Mastery, by a teacher named George Leonard.

If there are any routines you're looking to build (or change) over the next few weeks, as many of us do at the start of a new year, let Mr. Leonard give you some tips on how to do just that.

If you'd like to know more, let me know in the comment section. If 15 of you comment, I will even do a conference call you are all invited to!

1. Understand the "10 meter concept." What and who you let in to that circle will influence what you think you can/should do.

2. Write down - specifically - what you'd like to see get better. Put it on a sticky note, card, white board or (my favorite) bathroom mirror (using a white-board pen!) and at the end of the day ask, "What did I do about that today?" Don't walk away until you think of two things.

3. Ask for help.

Here's wishing you an even better day!

Of course, I was studying it in context of technological advancement.

Of course, I would be interested in the mental side of "input/output." My continual thinking experiment follows this formula:

"If I see ________, I am likely to think about ______."

Then what I can do is go out to the end of the "equation" and fill in that second blank line. That is what I want to think about, so then I just write down some of the things I could look at.

So, what are you going to look for next?

So, imagine my surprise when I learned about THIS! (I know, in some ways, I sometimes arrive late to the game. But, I'm here nonetheless!) When I see this diagram, I consider our own human performance, the energy that we "drain" during the day, and then what we can do at the end of the day, at night, and during sleep, to store it up again. Here are 2 things I can recommend out of the gate:

1. At the end of the day, end the day. Actually stop, at SOME point before you go to sleep, and look back on that day. Informal at least, run an assessment asking yourself questions like:
- how did I do today?
- what did I do today?
- who did I spend time with today?
- who helped me today?

2. Futurecast. Here's the question (and you've heard it before) I ask: "What two or three things are the Most Important ones for tomorrow?" This does at least a few things:
- let's me know WHAT I need energy for

Seems like they are addressing multiple areas of focus, simultaneously:

Psychology

Sociology

Technology

Whenever I think about how the mind works, I think about habits, practices and the things that happen auto-matically. Seems like that first one - for anyone who already smokes - is in the "Zero Sum Game" area of health. Either you do ZERO or you do more than that...

The next one, well, that seems a little more "social." That is, does the store you shop at make it easy/appetizing to buy fruit and veggies? Also, do the people you lunch/dinner/dine with eat this way?

I've always thought (and believed), "Change who I spend time with...change what I do."

That, then, might address the "technology" of it all! Consider this: I follow a few triathletes (and other athletes) on various social media platforms *Twitter and Facebook* and whenever I jump in to their stream (yeah, I made a "list" to follow) I get re-inspired to get some exercise in.

Do share, what do you do to move toward better health?
