With cardiovascular disease being the highest cause of deaths around the world still, high levels of cholesterol is one of the biggest reasons why people tend to suffer from this disease in the first place.

But there's good news: with awareness spreading about the risks associated with high cholesterol levels, there has been a 27 % drop in figures of people battling with it in the United States over the last decade, in a study conducted in 2009-10.

What's apparent in all this discussion is the fact that one's diet contributes to an increase to these high levels in cholesterol that ultimately leads to complications for the heart.

But before we jump into that list of foods that one should avoid at all costs, let's first understand what cholesterol is as well as the link between cholesterol and our diet.

The Relationship between Cholesterol and our Diet

Now, as opposed to popular opinion, cholesterol isn't all bad. Let me reiterate: cholesterol is not all bad like most people think it is.

In fact, it is a crucial nutrient that is a part of the outer layer of every cell in our body, and has important functions to carry out as well such as the production of sex hormones, bile and maintenance of cell membranes.

So, without a doubt, it's safe to say that it is necessary for the upkeep of our health.

But what relationship does cholesterol have with the food that we eat?

A lot, actually.

For a while now, people have been advised to go on a low-fat diet but this is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. What has been recently discovered is that one must avoid bad fats: saturated and trans fats, in particular.

When a person eats a food that has these fats in substantial quantities over the period of time, the fat gets added to cholesterol (produced by the body) and is transported to the various parts of the body (especially the heart) in the form of a lipoprotein (low density).

Large amounts of low-density lipoproteins (LDL), thanks to the amount of bad fats you eat, will result in deposits in the arteries while also causing other complications.

On the other hand, high density lipoproteins (HDL), called the garbage trucks of the body, when greater in number, remove the cholesterol from various parts of the body to the liver for removal as waste.

This is why the higher your HDL levels and lower the LDL levels in the body, the more chances of a healthier heart.

Foods to Avoid Cholesterol – A List

To tell you the truth, there is a long list of foods to avoid cholesterol and these are figure very high on your list of favorite foods, thanks to the delightful indulgence that they turn out to be in terms of taste.

Since it would be impossible to list all of them, here's a tip on how you can identify which foods to avoid cholesterol. Look for the trans and saturated fat content on the label.

To name a few that contain trans and saturated fats: pizzas, cheese, sausages, bacon, beef, hamburgers, margarine, butter, cookies, Mexican dishes, grain-based desserts, fried and baked goods such as pastries and muffins as well as processed snacks foods.

These are probably the deadliest list of foods to avoid cholesterol that have been targeted rather negatively in the news, for good reason too.

In Closing

But let's focus on the good news… which really shows that the onus is upon us to be in charge of our health!

It is more soluble than casein and whey protein is regarded as having a higher protein quality rating. Whey proteins are complete proteins. This is because whey protein contains essential and non-essential amino acids. Furthermore, whey protein is a rich source of branched chain amino acids, leucine, valine and isoleucine. It is factors like this which make it an ideal source of nutrition for sports athletes.

Sports athletes find taking Maxiraw whey protein isolate to be very beneficial. When their body encounters severe damage, such as after running long distances or spending a very long time at the gym, whey protein has proven to assist with minimalizing any damages with muscle breakdown. If extensive exercise is carried out within a short space of time, cutting the chances of any injury from happening is recommended. Whey protein helps to stimulate muscle protein synthesis, and it also aids with improving endurance too. It can also provide BCAA’s by helping to prevent fatigue after sports events which happen over a longer period of time, such as a marathon.

Sports athletes normally ingest whey protein in the form of supplements and these are available in a variety of flavours. Sports supplements are normally competitively priced too. Therefore, purchasing several sports supplements might not surpass any budget.

There are many benefits to choosing whey protein. When involved in excessive exercise, helping the body with recuperation will enable it to heal so that further exercise can be carried out as soon as possible. As whey protein is available in many forms, there is much to recommend whey protein, especially as a variety of flavours can be chosen from.

While you've gained all A'sóbravoó you've also gained a few extra unwanted pounds. If one of your main goals is to wipe away those freshmen 15 this summer but the gym terrifies you (or perhaps you can't afford a membership), there are still some activities you can do that not only help burn the fat, but are also fun and typically free. Even non-students can indulge in these activities we've listed below.

Swim

What better way to escape the heat and enjoy some sun than by taking a dip in the pool. But rather than lounging around and working on your tan, use this opportunity to squeeze in some exercise. Swimming is one of the best ways to get into shape since water is resistance to airóthis means you can burn more without straining as much in a gym. This is why children typically come home starving after an afternoon at the pool. They're burning calories while having fun. There are several ways to maximize your experience however: you can simply swim laps solo or race against a friend; you can play games like you were a kid with your friends (the kind that involve quick strides like Shark or Marco Polo); or you can look up YouTube videos like this one and learn a few water aerobic exercise moves to get more out of your workout.

Dance

Summer is the party season there is no questioning that. But if there's music playing at the weekend house party or you decide to go out with a group of friends to the local club, make sure to dance your heart out. There's a reason why hip hop cardio classes and Zumba are so popular: you can burn calories simply by busting a moveóand it's a lot more fun than spin class. So don't be timid and stand on the sideline; dance when you're out. You can also make some new summer memories: if you and your friends have never gone salsa dancing for example, then make plans to go.

Play Sports

Lastly, get in some much needed activity by playing sports. Whether you decide to join an organized community league, form a team with friends, or just play recreationally every once in a while, playing a high endurance sport like flag football, basketball, soccer or even something wacky like kickball or Frisbee golf once a week can diminish the boredom and the pounds.

Protein that is excellent, thanks to a "perfect" Protein Digestability-Corrected Amino Acid Score, and for a number of reasons such as an increase in lean muscle mass and metabolic rate along with a decrease in muscle recovery times as well as faster muscle repair.

Soy protein is almost those sources of protein that can help you get the best protein but whey, which was not necessarily considered to be of any use, in the past, is now used to create the aforementioned "superfood". Yes, complete in all respects.

Ask any athlete or bodybuilder who uses whey protein regularly for the benefits that they enjoy from this product and you'll understand why the aforementioned claim (of being the ultimate protein source) is actually fact.

Whey Protein – An Overview

As mentioned earlier, this form of protein is derived only from milk and not from other sources. That's why it's called whey protein, rather obviously. While you might be able to obtain protein from different foods such as beef, vegetables and fruits, the amount of protein that you do get is not considered to be 'complete' unlike whey protein in its purest form: whey protein isolate.

Usually, whey protein is prepared to take three forms: concentrate, hydrosylate and whey protein isolate.

Of the three, the isolate version is the purest of the lot with almost 90 % to 96 % protein which is jut perfect for endurance athletes, bodybuilders and team sports players.

Whey Protein Isolate – An Overview

There are two ways by which whey protein isolate is prepared: cross-flow microfiltration and the Ion Exchange Method. Both these methods are just as likely to come up with high quality whey protein isolate for health and fitness purposes yet experts consider the first process to be the best of the two, for the reason that it is able to capture the sub-fraction peptides that is beneficial to the objective of consuming whey protein.

Most of these drinks that you will find today are a blend of both the concentrate and isolate forms and might be 'cheaper' but in order to get the most out of whey protein, pay a little more but use the isolate form.

So, why should you opt for whey protein isolate other than the fact that it is an excellent source of protein?

The reason for this is not just the amount of protein that is available but it is the fact that the fat, lactose and bio-active compounds are also removed in the isolate form.

This form not only boosts the immune system considerably, thanks to the presence of antioxidant Glutathione, but it is also known to have the highest concentration of branched chain amino-acids (read as: complete protein) in the right proportion as well.

Most of all, the Biological Value of whey protein is at about 170, highest among foods such as eggs (100) and beef (70).

In Closing

Make no mistake: it is the mother of all dietary supplements and is every athlete's secret to a healthier and fitter body.

And the natural progression from food journaling is usually counting calories and trying to stay within a specific daily calorie range. However counting calories has been met with mixed reviews from those who have employed it, with some people swearing by it and others condemning it and claiming itís actually led to weight gain. So what are the pros and cons to calorie counting?

Pros

1.	It keeps you in check Having a set number of calories that you can eat each day and watching them add up throughout the day can be a great guideline for staying on track and preventing you from reaching for that second snack or from hitting up the vending machine during an afternoon slump.

2.	It can help you become more mindful in your eating We are so preconditioned to think that we need to eat large portions of every meal and that we deserve snacks and desserts that counting calories can be just the reality check that we need to scale back and eat only what our body actually needs. Instead of over-indulging in large portions just because itís in front of you, calorie counting can help you become more mindful of how much youíre putting in your mouth.

3.	It can help you track your macronutrients as well A lot of calorie counting websites are now set up so they also monitor your protein, fat, and carbohydrate intake as well, which can help give you a better assessment of if youíre getting enough of each of these three major groups. Often we end up eating way too much of one category and slacking on the others, and this realistic look at our actual percentages can act as a good reality check.

Cons

1.	Not all calories are created equal Tracking your calories is great if youíre eating the right kinds of foods. However not all calories are created equal, and you may be able to stay within your allotted calorie range by eating 100 calorie snack packs and pre-packaged meals but youíre not getting the same nutritional benefits as if you were eating whole foods and fresh fruits and vegetables, which can make counting calories a little deceiving.

2.	It can set you up for a binge Being unwaveringly strict about your food intake can set you up for a binge by the time the weekend rolls around. Day after day of low calorie intakes may help you shed pounds, but it can also set you up to go completely crazy and binge eat all day one day because youíre not eating enough calories each day or because youíre tired of watching your calorie intake so closely.

3.	Itís easy to get obsessed Watching your numbers can quickly evolve into an obsession if you aren't careful, and many people have found themselves meticulously counting calories and freaking out if they go over their daily calorie allowance, leading to eating disorders and over-exercising to compensate for a higher calorie day.

Calorie counting is a very individualized choice that is very dependent on the individual and the individualís approach to diet and nutrition. What works for one person may completely derail the next, so donít write it off as the answer or the problem until youíve given it a chance to see if it works for you or not!

Dressed in your new, shiny running shoes and matching top and shorts, you know you're ready to ace this! Your run goes great, and you are living on the high for hours. But then, the next morning comes around and you're still up, but slightly less motivated. Soon, your dreams of being a regular neighborhood runner are just that. How can you keep your motivation up and improve your exercise success?

Here are some of my favorite tips for staying motivated in your exercise routine:

* Make gradual changes. It might sound like a great idea to set your alarm for 5 a.m. and get that five mile run in before work, but this will cause burn out. It's important to gradually introduce the workout routine into your schedule. When I started working out, I tried to do it during a time that wouldn't interrupt my daily routine and then gradually built it into my morning routine.

* Get a partner. One of the best ways to motivate yourself is to get a partner. Having a partner can keep you motivated for many reasons. First, you are less likely to stand up a friend for a workout than you are to slack on it if you are doing it on your own. Second, someone will be going through it with you — they'll understand the challenges, the ups and the downs of starting a workout routine.

* Set a goal (or two). Goals are important to help you work towards something. If you sign up for a race or try to lose a dress size, it will help you stay motivated in your workout routine. However, it's important to make sure you set reasonable goals. If you just started running, it doesn't make sense to sign up for a marathon in three months. Sure, you can set a goal to run a marathon in a year or two — but set other goals in between so you have something attainable to work towards.

* Make sure your expectations are reasonable. I know it can be frustrating — you start working out and want to see results. Lo and behold, six weeks later you've lost a whole pound. One pound? But, that's how it works. You have to create a deficit of 3,500 calories to burn off a pound of weight. It will take time to build your metabolism up and create that deficit of calories. Because of this, make sure you set your expectations in line with what's realistic. Give your body time to adapt to your new routine, and don't let it impair your motivation.

With these tips in mind, it is easier to keep your motivation high and your goals in check. Plus, you might find yourself having fun in the process, which will only help you make your workout dreams a reality in the near future.

Yes, we're talking about football (otherwise known as soccer or association football) that is the most popular game in the world – and no it doesn't take all day like cricket.

His closest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, has upped the ante this entire season, and has been right on the heels of the little champion who just recently broke one of the longest held records in football by Gerd Muller.

Numero Uno, as he would be described. And without a doubt, in a world full of gawdy footballers (read as: David Beckham – shame on you!), he's the complete footballer that our generation has ever seen or the following will get to see.

No different from the "complete" protein that you will get if you don't mind trying soy protein…

A Note on Soy Protein

Protein is important. Building blocks of the body, they call it. Providing essential amino acids that the body cannot generate itself but needs to stay healthy is one of its primary function.

However, not all protein sources (like fish, meat and eggs) are able to provide all the essential amino acids that are required by the body except those that are defined to be complete protein.

Soy protein, on the other hand, is. It is prepared from soybeans that China is famous for introducing to the world for its numerous benefits.

No, we're not talking about soy meat, oil and milk when it comes to preparations, and which are commonly found to work for those who are strict vegetarians (for whatever reason!) but preparations such as soy flour (50%), concentrate (70%) and isolate (90%).

The last of the lot is something that those who have made bodybuilding a profession will find very interesting much like "whey isolate" that has been a part of popular supplements off late.

But how do we know that soy protein is "complete"?

They call it the Protein Digestability Corrected Amino Acid Score and the scores given to foods range from 0 (lowest) to 1 (highest). Foods such as casein, egg white, whey and of course, soy protein have obtained the highest score.

Interestingly, the score signifies the protein quality from the source but it is given on how well a person can digest it as well as the amino acids that are required for the human body, and is present in source itself.

Obtaining a score of one can only mean that this source offers better quality of protein than regular protein obtained from beef, chickpeas, fruits among several others.

So, how will you benefit from opting for complete protein from sources such as this one?

All your daily dietary requirements are met and the protein that you do digest will be in the right proportion to support all the biological functions in the body adequately.

That counts for a lot, doesn't it?

In Closing

And yes, being a Barca fan, is truly being the happiest of the lot of football fans that are around… in being able to treat both imposters victory and defeat in the same manner.

A wholesome (read as: complete) approach to the beautiful game, as a fan…

You may be worried about naptimes, schedules, play dates and getting your kids out of the door for school, and your workouts seem to fall to the wayside. As your children grow up, you may find it even more difficult to squeeze in a work out. Here are some tips that will make it easier.

Take Advantage of Gym Daycare

If you have a gym membership, take advantage of the daycare options that they provide. This makes it easier to go and get your exercising done, because you know your kids are being taken care of while you are taking care of yourself. Most kids love the gym daycares, because of the toys and other activities they provide. Some of the gyms will not take small infants, and if this is the case you will need to visit the gym when your husband or partner is home to care for your little one.

Set a Schedule

Another thing that will help you get your exercise in will be scheduling it everyday. For some people this may mean going to the gym at the same time every day, while others may need to squeeze it in at a different time every day of the week. If you keep a written schedule be sure to block out a set amount of time to get your workouts done each day. This will make it so much easier to accomplish your exercise. Do not let other activities crowd into your day and eat up your exercise time.

Be Prepared to Work Out at Home

There will be days that you can’t make it to the gym. For example your child may be sick at home with a fever or you may not have enough time to go to the gym and exercise. If this is the case then you should exercise at home. Everyone should have one or two workout videos they can do at home, especially if you do not have any exercise equipment at home. You can pop in the DVD and fit in a quick workout while your little one is napping. This makes it possible to exercise even when you can’t make it to the gym.

Find Exercises to Do With Your Kids

You can find ways to exercise that involve bringing your kids along. For example if you love walking or jogging, then get a jogging stroller and begin taking them along with you on your walks. Most kids love the chance to get a bit of fresh air and enjoy the sights without putting out too much effort. As your children grow older you can have them ride bikes or scooters with you or even jog along side of you. Exercising like this gives you the additional benefit of teaching your children to have a healthy lifestyle.

So will Obama get a second term or will the last three candidates of the ongoing Republican primaries (presumably, Romney) win it this time?

Or, much like the late Steve Jobs said, will Obama be a single-term President?

Who knows. But what cannot be denied is his staggering list of accomplishments while he's been in power, and watch this video for a neat recap.

(He should've added evidence of his birth certificate there too… being the humorist that he is.)

Only time will tell, while the political commentators have plenty of material to laugh about during the early days of the Republican primaries. A lot to laugh at…

However, what is no laughing matter is the changes that have taken place in healthcare reform, and signed into effect as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Obamacare, if you will…

Medical Insurance – A Comparative Study

There's one line that Americans love, " The United States is the best". Personally speaking, it's both annoying and inspiring. The hard cold facts tell a different story, especially when it comes to health care. Or Micky Mantle…

In a study conducted in 2007 in comparing healthcare in several countries such the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Canada and the United States, it was found that amongst the lot, healthcare in the United States was the most expensive and, wait for it, the worst.

Better still, it still remained the only health care system which followed the system of 'universal health care…

Simply put, if you aren't covered by an employer or don't have enough money for a medical insurance policy: you're really screwed.

And with the current changes that ObamaCare is trying to put into place, it seems as if the system of universal health care will be a reality in the United States, after all.

But with all things that signify change, there's always resistance, even though these changes want to not only bring improvements to Medicaid and Medicare but also to provide better health care for those with pre-existing conditions like never before.

It would probably make more sense to get all panicky about "socialism" unless the government took over the private health insurance companies but until then it's wise to assume that government is working in the best interests of people… and not just for the "corporate swine" who continue to make a lot of money off every day people… AND the politicians and governments that were happy to let things stand as before…

If socialism means that every one gets a fair chance to live a healthier and happier life, by the intervention and protection of the government, then so be it.

But does this mean that ObamaCare is flawless?

Hardly, and anyone will tell you that there are unfathomable repercussions when you undertake a project such as this one…

(Of course, it's not something that Rick Perry is intelligent enough to comprehend since he can't even recall the American Revolution dates correctly. Guess he doesn't know who Paul Revere was either!)

It only goes to tell you that government should not be about profits or losses (checks and balances, yes!) but one that operates like the proverbial Big Brother that facilitates justice, equality and fairness at whatever cost – something that most non-Americans appreciate and most present day Americans are blissfully ignorant of.

In Closing

To sum it up: these changes are not easy, and it's hard to say whether this new system will work or not considering the costs, but what is for sure, is that necessities like health care should not be limited to those with money but to those that are citizens. 30 million American citizens, actually, who don't have access to healthcare at all.

Obama's trying to be fair, in my opinion… and I might be completely wrong.

But how would I know?

Try (the operative word being 'try') living where I do, and you'll think twice…

Imagine taking up the habit of smoking or even allowing a tapeworm inside you to help you get thin.

And people gave it a shot without any complaints because a few thought that it would work…

Thank God sanity prevailed and now we have long-term diets that are not only safe but effective only if you make an effort. Not glaring Ponzi schemes that would make Bernie Madoff go: Why didn't I think of this earlier?

Of course, the earlier you go back in time, the more ridiculous these diets sound. In fact, a diet is just ridiculous, if you ask me.

What does matter is if you follow a regular plan of eating healthy food and exercising…

One excellent way by which you can make this a daily thing is by using the food pyramid which also has a version for vegetarians as well.

The Food Pyramid

The Food Pyramid chart has been around for years now, and only until recently, portion control became an important element as well. Yes, too much of a good thing doesn't turn out to be good.

You have to understand that every individual has their own rate of metabolism and which is why some people can eat throughout the day and remain thin while others might bloat up in no time at all.

While the information that you might receive is generic in nature, it would be better to take it one step further and get a personalized food plan for yourself using the food groups in the food pyramid.

If you aren't aware of this already, the food pyramid consists of food groups that are good for you and those that aren't necessarily nutritious or contribute to your health in anyway.

The Vegetarian Food Pyramid

And then there's the vegetarian food pyramid, designed exclusively for those who prefer avoiding the sweet taste of meat (let me repeat: sweet taste) and resort to the little delights that bovine creatures are limited too.

Similar to the food groups in the food pyramid, the vegetarian food pyramid contains food groups that only display a list of foods that are considered to be strictly vegetarian.

To put it simply, three elements from the earlier food pyramid are missing – fish, meat and poultry. The instructions on how to follow this food chart for your own benefit while keeping track of portion control is not very different to the food pyramid.

Of course, the very reason why they're so similar is that the vegetarian version is derived from the original food pyramid chart.

As for inculcating the instructions of this chart into your daily routine, you'll find over a period of time, minus the pressures of a diet, you'll make progress towards your long-term goals rather than short-term, which is the focus of a lot of unsuccessful diets in the past.

In Closing

Sleeping and eating well, despite being rudimentary, is just common sense. The longer you keep at it, the better off you are in the long run. "Long run" being the operative words here…
