Bringing together some of the greatest thinkers and designers in the country London Design Festival celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world.

Charlotte Wilkinson is one of the emerging young British designers whose work will be showcased in Young, Fresh & British, an Open Studio event curated by Mark Riese, creative director at urban living interiors, to be held at their design studio and showroom in Fitzrovia throughout the London Design Festival.

Charlotte Wilkinson specialises in blown glass, each vessel she makes is unique using processes that limit the control she has over the glass.  Scientific imaging is a recurring source of inspiration for her work.  In her first collection she used MRI scans of her father’s brain as inspiration.

Talented textile designer Anna Gravelle is also one of the emerging young designers whose work will be showcased by urban living interiors during the London Design Festival. Inspired by the candlewick bedspread she had on her bed growing up in the 70’s, Anna has revived this tufting technique for her smart textile designs including a range of cubes, cushions and throws in cool grey, monochrome and vivid brights.

Young, Fresh and British will also showcase an exceptional selection of furniture, textiles, glassware all designed by new home grown talent.

Sophie works with a variety of media to build up layers of detail to create imagery of flora and fauna that have a dramatic and feminine style. The use of colourful inks is vital to her drawing process and by combining and enhancing her hand drawn imagery with a considered use of digital processes her work retains delicate and textural hand finished qualities.

A selection of Sophie’s lamps and cushions will be on show at urban living interiors but here’s a sneaky peek ahead of the festival.

The Henry range from Waterworks transitions between modern, traditional, utilitarian and classic. The brief was to create a large kitchen, family room that was perfect for food prep, cooking and entertaining whilst still allowing the cook to chat to guests.

Combining his extensive knowledge of ergonomics and space planning, Johnny and his team created a visually striking kitchen using curves and locally sourced yew wood; harmoniously connecting the space with its rural environment.

Ghizlan’s entrancing selection of portraits are lit up from behind; the light combined with the strong colours and mosaic effect make these paintings truly wonderful to behold. For the transparency, which is crucial to her work, she uses modern metallic paint whilst the contrasting opacity and texture is achieved by using oils and traditional temperas.

Mark Riese, creative director of Urban Living Interiors is so passionate about the work of young, rising talent that he’s provided a lucky few with a platform to display their outstanding work in his Great Portland Street showroom.

“We are excited to be able to showcase the work of 5 new designers in our studio showroom, to work with them at this early stage in their careers and to be part of what we know will in each case be an exceptional design path.”

The showroom is currently exhibiting crafted items of furniture by Adam Collins and Thomas Jarrold.

Also on display are stunning wallpapers and luxury fabrics by Kit Miles, extraordinary glass sculptures by Charlotte Wilkinson and cushions, throws and pouffes by textile designer Anna Gravelle.
