I don't think I need to tell you that mornings at the Five Little Reasons house are hectic. We have a "loose" schedule, but of course, mornings happen and most of the time we just go with the flow.

The kids wake at about 6:30am and we have to be out the door at 7:55am sharp. Needless to say, we need breakfast to be quick, easy but most importantly nutritious and filling.

The Five LOVE oats, however I have never been a fan of standing at the stove making a huge batch of porridge. I always make waaaay too much and it somehow manages to get it everywhere.

Independence Day

This week, I hit a wall. I broke down in front of Brett, tears quietly streaming from my eyes and I told him.

I am burnt out.

I didn't know what to say.

I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. I didn't need sleep. The kids weren't challenging. I was keeping up with everything that my life throws my way.

And then I realised - *that* was the problem. I needed to slow down.

I am always on the go. From the moment I wake, to the moment my head finally hits the pillow at night. I thrive in the adventure that is our life.

I have been successfully been doing this gig for over 10 years. I love my gig.

But for the first time in 10 years, I was burnt out.

Coincidentally, I had a night in Melbourne already booked this week. I was heading down with a friend and we would be heading to a Bloggers Brunch on the Friday. It was a time out I was needing more than I even knew.

The night before, my gorgeous friend, due to her babies being sick, had to pull out. I had a slight panic attack. Then the voices in my head kicked into overdrive.

"It will be fine, Danielle. You will be fine!" I am not sure I convinced myself.

Let me back peddle a little.

I started dating my first boyfriend at the sweet age of 15 years old. And to me, a boyfriend was more than a boyfriend. We were best friends. We would do everything together. Explore our city together. Travel to the beach together. See movies together.

When we broke up 2 years later, I had already met my next boyfriend and within a week, we were dating. When we broke up, I again, went straight into my next relationship, this time with Brett.

I was good friends with all these "boys" and we did everything together. I then pretty much went from living at home to marital bliss and after having the first Little Reason, I never had a moment without a "sidekick".

You can now guess that at the age of 33, I have never:

Seen a movie on my own
Gone out to lunch or dinner on my own
Spent ONE night without someone else in my room/house.
Travelled on my own

Let me set this straight. It isn't because I can't do these things. It isn't because I can't look after myself. It is because I have chosen not to. I have always shared my life with someone else.

Brett is my best friend. My partner in crime. I not only love him to death, but I love spending my every moment with him. We have a lot of fun together and with the Five Little Reasons.

So you can understand why I had a slight panic attack at the thought of spending the most part of 48 hours

all

myself.

As I drove down the highway, airport bound, my panic button went off yet again. Little things like getting from the airport to my hotel. Where will I go? How do I get out of the city? How does the tram system work? All these things, I have had someone else either looking after it for me, or to work out with.

This time, I would be on my own. 100% independent. This was huge. Well, not as huge as I thought, but big enough.

As the plane touched down in Melbourne, slight panic set out again. Right, this is it. You're on you're own kid. For the fist time in your life, you are on you're own. Let's go.

The next 2 hours was filled with walking, trying not to look too lost when looking at bus timetables, more walking, trying not to look lost when searching for the perfect cafe for my much needed coffee, getting lost again until... I finally decided that it was ok to get lost.

I had no timetable. I had literally nothing to do. And it was awesome.

After checking in early to my hotel, I decided to head to St Kilda for lunch. A familiar place where Brett took me the last time we were here together. I had to work out the Tram system on my own. And that has changed since I was here last.

I now sit peacefully by the ocean, sipping on my latte, and just being. Being with myself. I might get up soon and go for a walk. I might not. I don't have to consult anyone.

I am feeling much better now. Proving to myself that I can do anything. I knew I could. But now I have proof.

Aside from the usual "life" reasons, {I am tired, I can't concentrate; I have distractions} I think a lot has to do with trolls.

You see, a couple of months back, I received some "hate mail" and even though I "got over it", I think it has stopped me in my tracks.

I have lost my mojo. What should I write about? Maybe people don't want to read my dribble. Is anyone really interested in what I write?

Every time I sit at the computer, I just stare at the screen.

I have lost my heart for it. Which saddens me. I need to find it again.

Open Roads, Farms and the Sea.

The Mamavan has been getting a work out this holidays. We live in such a wonderful part of the world, with so much to explore. And of course, we love to explore!

There is something about an open road. Even though I get car sick, I will never tire of packing up the car and just driving.

We arrived at Maleny Dairy Farm and put on our gumboots. The Reasons were a little hesitate, but after reassurance from Brett, we started walking up the long driveway.

So much to explore.

The Dairy Farm was having an open day so there was loads of fun for all!

These two are like an old married couple. Oliver helping Camille through the long, dense grass.

The highlight was finding a very fresh calf. Oh my.

The memory of this photo will stay with me forever.
Oliver was having a long winded conversation with Brett as to why it would be a great idea to find a new home for Bones (our dog) so that we can take the calf home.
"Wouldn't that be a great idea Daddy!?"

This boy is blowing my mind with how grown up he is becoming. I am starting to see a young man emerge. Happy to sit and think. Happy to be by himself. Happy to wonder. Happy.

We then headed into Caloundra for a fish and chip dinner by the sea. After dinner had been scoffed and the Reasons were long gone, playing on the playground, Brett and I sat watching a cruise ship pass by. The start of someones dream holiday.

It was a perfect moment in time. Perfect. I mentioned to Brett that this particular spot was my happy place. A place that we have visited only a few times, but a spot that was somewhere that made me truly happy.

With the Reasons falling asleep while watching The Lorax, we drove the 2 hours home in a comfortable silence.

Yet another Five Little Reasons Adventure success.

Spending Time

One thing we are really good at, is spending time together. I mean really spending time together. Laughing with each other. Telling stories. Playing. Just being.

It is a very important part of our family life.

Getting out into the world and exploring our wild selves is what our family life is all about.

Just being with eachother.

And this weekend was no different.

We packed he Mamavan with drinkbottles, snacks, and the Reasons and with a loose plan in hand we drove.

It had been a while since we went up the mountain. A place we have always loved.

We pulled up at Hangliders Lookout and like wild animals just set free the Reasons ran off into the grass.

Don't be fooled - the hill is quiet steep. It took Camille a little while to get her balance and while the big four danced about, she kept telling them to "be careful".

I continually marvel at the little people we are blessed to be sharing our lives with. Watching their souls blossom. Watching them bloom into people we are proud of.

Watching their individuality grow.

Watching them interact with one another.

Remember this flying baby?

2 years ago. To. The. Day.

She is no longer the flying baby, but a beautiful little girl.

As we watched the wall of rain come towards us, I felt peace again. I finally felt the wall become a mist of rain. No longer hard and high, but transparent, unclouded and soft.

I am starting to feel like myself again. And it is good.

A New Start and A special Thank You!

As I travel deeper into my 30's, I come to realise a lot more about myself. Things that I already knew, but now understand. Things that I was reluctant to admit in my 20's, which I now embrace.

And I have come to actually like who I am. Some adore me. Some hate everything about me. The only time that is a problem is when it hurts the ones closest to me.

My motto entering 2013 was to fill my life, our lives, with nothing but happiness. This included people.

So we distanced ourselves. From the people that hurt us. Some continuously.

And we are happy. We embraced the people who really made our lives full. And we held them tightly and made sure they knew it.

And we will no longer let people hurt us.

I, in particular, will not sweep issues under the rug. I will voice my hurt. I will no longer keep the peace.

And if you don't like it, too bad. Because MY happiness and the happiness of MY FAMILY depends on it.

I had a break from the blog. As much as it made me unhappy, I had to take some time away from the drama that was unfolding.

As I enter my 3rd year of blogging, I start to think about what I want to do to grow my little space on the world wide web.

Does it make me happy? The short answer is YES. This space makes me extremely happy. In every sense of the word. This little space is food for my soul.

Brett and I have been discussing the direction of our lives in the past few weeks. Where we want to be at the end of this year. What adventures we want to take the Reasons on. What experiences we want to open their sweet minds to.

We have also been discussing the direction of my blog. Our blog. This is, after all, a blog about our family.

I am not going to lie. Giving up on this blog was mentioned. The tiny thoughts that *some* people put into our head were mentioned, however the outcome of our writing is greater than all of the crap. The time and energy that we pour into our little space is epic. There will always be those that don't agree with what we do and write. We have to brush those aside.

In the end, this blog makes us Happy.

We want to continue to write about our lives. The ups and downs and the inbetweens. We want to share with you our adventures. Because life is just that... one big adventure.

Brett wants to contribute more about his side of the journey. You can find some of his past musings here. He also has 1 or 2 other new "segments" he would like to share with you all.

We love having you, our readers, here. Sharing our lives with you. And we know there are a lot of you. And your numbers are still growing. Which astounds us.

There is no secret that I love shoes. I don't have a lot of shoes. But my collection is growing.

Slowly.

The Five Little Reasons have inherited my love for shoes. Lucy's collection is growing and even the boys have certain shoes that they must have!

The problem with my children's feet is that they are wide. Another thing they inherited from their mother. This means that most "store bought" shoes do not fit properly, resulting in an increased risk of foot deformities like blisters, bunions and even rolled feet.

I met Michelle, from Hey Skippy, early last year and fell in love with her range of awesome children's shoes straight away.

When it came to fitting the Big Reasons with school shoes this year, I didn't hesitate ringing Michelle. When choosing children's shoes I recommend that you:

Measure their feet every time you purchase new shoes. The length of the shoes should exceed the length of your child's foot by at least 10mm. 12mm is ideal.

Consider the actual size of the shoe rather than just the number marked on the shoe. Check the width of both the toe area and the heal.

Check every month or so to see if your child's shoes still fit, especially when they are in a growth spurt. Remember that they will more often outgrow their shoes well before they outwear them.

Michelle takes great pride in measuring your child's foot. If ordering online, she will ask for measurements, rather than your child's shoe size, to get the perfect fit.

Today marked the first day back at school for most Queenslanders, which means getting back into routines and structure. While the Reasons were at school, I reorganised our Homework Station ready for the year.

{Brett's Write Mind} New Year, New Me.

Like most people my age, I have a long history of stop/start fitness regimens. (I use the word regimen strictly as a means of making the entire process sound a lot more structured and realistic than it actually is, there has never been anything truly regimental about my fitness routines). Admittedly, the stopping is a hell of a lot easier than the starting. Once you stop and the longer you stop for, the harder it is to light that fire again. Finding the energy and time for that initial push or shove back into some sort of fitness/health routine seems to be harder to find sometimes than the Higgs Boson. My push came from within, the shove from my Brother-in-law, and so it began.

I read once that it takes 5 'sessions' of exercise to overcome the initial reluctance and lack of motivation for the new routine to become a routine, 5 days of pain before the gain. 5 days for your body to realise that something is happening and it needs to get its shit together before some real damage is done. If that is the case, I’m not even half way there. One weights session focusing on upper body strength (of which I have none apparently) and a 40-minute run/walk/fall over in the searing heat over two days and I am feeling every bit the 40 year old.

And that’s exactly the reason I need to push on, no WANT to push on. Will push on.

Half a lifetime ago, before fulltime work, before fulltime children, I was ridiculously fit. I know I am never going to achieve that level again, but I remember how good it feels, my body remembers what it’s like to be in shape. So I know what’s in front of me and I know what the possible rewards are at the end of the journey.

I don’t need to look far for motivation or inspiration to continue. I have 5 young reasons at home that are going to benefit immensely from a fit and healthy dad as they get older and inevitably more active themselves. My own health, both physical and mental, will benefit infinitely from regular exercise. The evidence that exercise has a positive effect on mental health is overwhelming and something I have experienced first hand in the past.

My life was at a crossroads towards the end of last year. I had hit a new low and the sobering reality was that it could have been the end of all I love, my entire world was falling away from my weakening grasp. Things happened that at the time appeared to signify the end of the world, little did I know they would bring about the beginning of a new world, a better one, one with a future.

I have a great deal of work to do to become the man, husband and father I need and want to be. This new fitness/health regimen (a realone this time) is just one part of a holistic and comprehensive self-improvement doctrine that will see me become the person I want to be, have been before and know I can be forever.

I am hurting all over, every muscle stings, but it feels good. For the first time in a long time, my future is bright. Bring it on!

Defending my Marriage

Everyone has at least one hater. That one person in your life that isn't in your corner. Fortunatly for us, most of the people in our lives are cheering us on. However, I know of a few people who have doubted our marriage from the start.

Marriage is tough. Everyone knows that. Anyone that doesn't agree is fooling themselves.

Brett and I celebrate 13 years of marriage this year. And we are happy.

Today, however, I feel like I have to defend my marriage.

Why am I writing this post? This has actually been a long time coming, but the crunch point was a few weeks ago, when things crashed spectacularly with Brett. Our world concaved and I actually was very badly wounded. For the first time in our Bipolar journey, I didn't know what to do to help him. For the first time in our journey, I really didn't know if I could make it better, for me, the Reasons or for Brett.

And the day that it all came incomprehensibly crashing, I posted on my personal facebook page. "Living with a Bipolar Sufferer is the most difficult thing in the world. I am not sure if I can do it anymore".

I was wounded. Deeply wounded.

My close friends and family, who truly know us, came to the rescue. They were there in a heart beat. And it was awesome.

However, there was a few who pelted me with stones. More than one person.

They questioned my love for my husband. Told me to "walk a day in his shoes". Indicated that I must not love him.

Let me set the record straight right now.

Not only do I love my husband with every cell in my body, but I am truly, madly and deeply IN love with him. I guess that is what makes it all so much harder.

I may vent that I can't do it anymore. That I, for a fleeting moment, wish it could end. In that moment. Hold my hands up for a short while and surrender. However, that doesn't mean that I don't love my husband.   It means that I am wounded. It means that I am reaching out for help. Help that the "haters" have never given. It is just me venting. We all do it. I do it in a more public fashion. I am aware of that. Brett is aware of that. We will continue to share our lives through this blog.

But in the end, I will always be by his side. Brett knows it. I know it.

Always.

So to those people who are not in our lives on a regular basis. To those people that draw their own conclusions without even knowing the full story.   Back off. I have had enough. Be told now, that we honestly don't care what you think or gossip about our marriage and family behind our backs. Well, obviously, I care a little, because in the end, you are hurting my little family. Aim all you like at me. But back off from my husband and my children.

I know that our marriage is strong. I know the deep connection that Brett and I share. I know that I am a good mother to the Five Little Reasons.

Time has and will continue to prove you all wrong.

For 2013.

OUR YEAR.

The last year I have spent a whole heap of time searching for my soul. Who I am. What I love. What I want in my one little life.

And I have realised that I am happy. Really happy.

December was a rough month. One of the roughest months I have ever had to face. Rough for the reasons. Rough for Brett. Rough for the Mama and wife that struggled to keep it together.

Brett crashed with epic proportions in December. Epic.

It rocked my soul to the core. I struggled to get back on my feet. And that is just me. I also had to help Brett back on his feet.

There were days I didn't think I could do it.

There were days that I wanted to throw in the towel.

But I kept it together. I had a choice. And I chose to dig for the positives. I chose to see the light. Even if it seemed to be moving away from me as fast as I was trying to catch it.

I learned many things in 2012. I realised I am a lot stronger than I ever imagined. And I knew I was strong.

2013 is going to bring many beautiful times for our little family.

13 has always been a lucky number for us.

We have many plans for this year, including a family road trip, loads of 5LR adventures and the biggest news is that we are planning to renew our wedding vows towards the end of the year.

It is OUR year.

As this year is coming to a close, I wanted to take the time to thank you all for being such awesome readers this year. My blog has been growing at an alarming rate and I am so very grateful for the opportunities that it has brought to my little (big) family.

2012 has, with out a doubt, been one of the most challenging years of my life. However, I have no regrets. I love my little family and all the struggles that we face just make me stronger.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and may 2013 be full of light and love.

2012 Christmas Tradition Adventure! Part TWO!

It was quieter than I remember. Maybe because we were there a little earlier? In any case, it was nice to be first in line for the train.

Hayden decided to explore the Christmas decorations section, while Lucy, Camille and the little boys rode the train.

It was Camille's first time. And the look of wonder in here eyes was magical.

My heart skipped a beat.

Or two.

And then it was time. Time to see the Big Man in Red.

We crossed the train tracks and made our way into his secret office. Joshua knocked on the door and an elf answered saying Santa was ready for us. Cookie, his reindeer, lay sleeping on the ground. With a bellowed laugh, he welcomed us in.

The Reasons beamed and immediately ran over to start running off their lists and questions. Oh the magical questions.

How is Mrs Claus? How are the reindeer? Are the elves happy? Are you paying them in candy canes or peppermint chocolates?

The assumed their positions and the photographer snapped away.

Then it was time to go, and they said their goodbyes.

We made our way out of Santaland and spent some time searching for a new Christmas book or two. Another tradition.

Without knowing what was ahead of us, we chose "Russell's Magic Christmas"

Along with a "hide and seek" Christmas book.

Then it was time. Time to head to our next destination.

As we navigated our way through the crowds, we saw the twinkle lights in the distance.

And it was spectacular!

I read each window (page) carefully and full of expression. Five Little Reasons and Two Gorgeous Friends listening carefully. Taking in each word. Experiencing every sparkle of every window.

As I reached the final window and announced the words "The End" the crowd around applauded.

I hadn't even noticed the audience that had been listening to my every word. A father thanked me for such a dramatic reading and the crowd dispersed.

I turned to Brett and laughed. I should have charged!

We then slowly made our way to see the Lord Mayor's Christmas Tree, which had only been officially "lit" just a few hours earlier.

It was at this point that I had a minor break down. Seven kids, three adults and a bustling city centre will do that do a mother.

It was after the 2nd time I lost Camille in the crowd that I announced that it was time to end our adventure.

Kids were tired, mama was stressed and I was getting increasingly uncomfortable in the heat and humidity.

We made our way back to the car, turned the air-con on high and drove home.

It was hard work. Really hard work.

But there are Five Little Reasons why we do it.

2012 Christmas Tradition Adventure! Part One!

Have I mentioned by big desire to create and nurture our family traditions. It is on the top of my radar.

Every. Single. Day.

More traditions are jam packed into December than any other month. For obvious reasons.

It isn't called the Silly Season for nothing.

Jam packed!

Exhausting!

Exciting!

Totally worth it!

There are Five Little Reasons why we do it all.

This year, my gorgeous friend Belinda and her two boys joined us for our adventure. And it was so lovely having them with us. Friends that make me smile.

As we set up North in the Mama van bound for the "big city", the Reasons watch Christmas movies while Brett and I take the time to talk. The first time in a while that we have had a whole hour to just talk.

We needed it.

Arriving at the Myer center, we find a park and start our journey to the Pancake Manor. This is the 4th year we have taken the Reasons there for a pre-adventure dinner. And they love it.

I mean, who wouldn't love pancakes for dinner!

Seriously.

Have you spotted how cheeky Oliver is this year. We are totally in love with his cheeky, comical personality!

After dinner has been demolished, we pay the bill and head back down into the bottom level of the underground carpark and start wiping the stickness off the Reasons and change them into their "photo" outfits!

Phase 2 of the adventure now begins. We slowly make our way up to the top of Myer. Window shopping as we go. Lead and Follow. Follow and Lead.

How to get the BEST Santa Photo!

Every Christmas, I do Santa photography at our local Westfield. One of the busiest Santa sets in SE QLD. This means I have seen it all.

From over the top outfits, to spur of the moment photos. Adult children having a photo to give to their parents, to mates having a laugh and workmates celebrating the holidays.

I love Santa photos. For many reasons. The main reason is it is a Tradition. And you all know what I am like with traditions.

We have a "Santa" album exclusive for the Santa photos.

I have seen more tears and tantrums that you could imagine, but it doesn't have to be that way.

Here are my tips to getting a picture perfect Santa photo!

1: Prepare, prepare and prepare some more. Some little children are not fond of Santa. If I had a dollar for every parent that says "Well, we have taught them to not talk to strangers". ::sigh:: Santa doesn't have to be a stranger. At our set, we welcome children and parents to visit as many times as they like. As soon as the silly season starts, everytime you walk past Santa, go in for a visit.

2003 - 21st December - Hayden's "First" Christmas photo - on his 1st birthday.
We were still in hospital on Christmas day for his "real" first Christmas!

One year, Joshua was quite frightened. We walked past a number of times and he wouldn't have a bar of it. Finally, after a few "over the fence" high fives with Santa, he decided he wanted to line up for a visit. When it was our turn, he walked in, turned around and walked straight back out again. The next time, he was happy enough to approach Santa, give him a highfive. The next time, a hand shake. A few more times and we got a wonderful photo.

Don't give up.

2005

2: Do NOT make it a negative experience. DO NOT under ANY circumstances force your child onto Santa. Be prepared for your child to not like it. Don't get disheartened or angry at your child because they don't want to do it. It breaks my heart when I start hearing parents telling their child off for not siting with Santa, and it makes me very angry when they are smacking or abusing their child in front of me. Try again another time.

2006

3: Make sure you choose the best time for your child. It's a no-brainer to not go when your child is due for a nap or is in a bad mood.

2007

4: Take your time. If you feel like you are being rushed by the set staff, ask politely if there is a quiet time that they recommend to come back. During peak periods you obviously won't have the luxury of being able to ease your child in. Even our very busy set has down times. Come back when the staff have plenty of time to play and talk to your child to get them comfortable.

2008 - 14th December

2008 - 23rd December (Oliver 4 days old)

5: Suggest a different pose. For some children, they are happy to sit in the chair without Santa. At our set, we will suggest a "hide" photo. We get the children to close their eyes (or distract them with toys) while Santa disappears. They are then free to sit in Santa's chair while we take the photo. They have no idea that Santa is actually "Peeking" from behind the chair on cue for the photo. Some children are frightened of siting in his knee - so suggest they stand next to Santa, or maybe they would prefer to sit on the floor at Santa's feet (our set has a step to sit on). As the staff if they have any suggestions suitable for their set.

6: Make it a family photo. If you still haven't been able to manage to get one with the kids on their own, I suggest you frock up and have a lovely family photo. Make it your tradition every year. :)

2011

7: Go for a "Dump and Snap". Sometimes, the ones with a crying baby are part of the "tradition". If you are really set on getting a photo, but your child is not, ask the photographer to be ready... dump your child... snap a photo and quickly pick them up. Be happy with whatever the photo looks like. Crying? Screaming? Mid-air jumping off Santa? Line them up in your album and remember how much they protested that year. That said, know when to draw the line. Don't make it terrifying. A tear or a scream is one thing, but having a child shaking in absolute terror is not something you want to remember (or will they!)

8: Finally - and my most passionate point is to remember that it is ONLY a Santa photo. If after a few weeks of visits and high-fives and test runs your child is still totally terrified, please please do not force them. It just isn't worth it. It is just a Santa photo!

Christmas Begins...

It will be no surprise to you all that I LOVE Christmas. I have been flooding my Facebook page and Instagram feed with Christmas snippets for weeks now. I don't care if you think that setting up Christmas in November is bad luck... I will continue to do it. I don't believe in superstitions.

I am, however, all over Traditions. Creating family memories for the Five Little Reasons. Memories that will be etched in their minds for eternity. I want to fill their memory banks with as much magic as possible. There can never be too much magic.

As I pulled down the decorations from storage, I check each bauble and every string of lights. The Five Little Reasons sit around, engaged in our ever growing Christmas book collection that they haven't seen in 10 months.

Every year we add one, two or three Christmas books to our collection.

Once the tree is up and fully decorated, which, I might add, takes me 3 hours over a couple of days to complete, the Five Little Reasons stand back and discover all the ornaments as if it was Christmas all over again. Only it is.

Each year, all on their own, they decide on a Star Catcher. One huge tree. One Star. One Star Catcher. It is this Reasons job to ceremoniously place the star on top of the tree, marking the official beginning of Christmas in our house.

This year, they chose...

Oliver. And he was as proud as punch!

As Daddy lifted Oliver up as high as he could, Oliver gently placed the star on top of the tree. The other reasons gasped in delight and started singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas". It sounds so cheesy, but so magical at the same time.

The Five Little Reasons then assemble and decorate their very own little tree in the family room. They stand around going through each decoration one by one. Handing the decorations to their owner to place on the tree. All the decorations they have made over the years. Hayden and Lucy especially enjoy reminiscing each decoration, proudly announcing how and when they made it.

One yellow dish sponge, some glue, glitter and a couple of bells.
Fold the top over a loop and Voila! A Christmas decoration that any child would be proud of.
{Lucy made this in Kindy and she is still very proud of it today!}

And so Christmas has begun.

One of my most frequently asked question is "How do you afford Christmas with Five Little Reasons?" My answer is this.

It doesn't matter how much money you spend. It doesn't matter how many presents are under the tree. Christmas is all about the traditions. The memories of family and togetherness and excitement that we want to implant into the Five Little Reasons minds. We fill December with loads of inexpensive or even free events. Heck, a night of walking the neighbourhood spotting all the Christmas lights is so magical through the eyes of a child.

That is what Christmas is all about.

Garage Storage!

If you have been here a while, you would know that the garage is the hub of our house. We are outdoor peeps. The Five Little Reasons spend most of the weekend on the Driveway. As my girlfriends and I sit on our outdoor lounge, the Five Little Reasons and their friends ride their bikes, play giant lawn chess, street hockey, cricket and any other ball game you can think of, as well as do their arts and crafts all on the driveway.

I was awaiting an ebay'er to come and collect after we bought a new dinning room suite!

See the back wall? That is our school station. Shoes, school bags, hats and schedules all easy accessable. You can find information about our School Station HERE.

I store all of our Christmas paraphernalia in our garage. I was told many years ago that the roof in our QLD home is far too hot for such precious items, so I no longer try to balance at the top of a ladder while shoving a 8 foot tree box through a 60x60cm square manhole.

As you can see, I am pretty organised. With the growing collection of bikes, trikes, scooters, rip riders, street hockey gear and all other types of driveway toys, I have to keep it neat and tidy. This room gets cleaned out every weekend. While the kids are playing, I am resorting, cleaning and sweeping away all the dirt, leaves and grass that makes it way back in again every single day.

Everything has a home, which is clearly marked. Even the Five Little Reasons know where to find things.

To make life easier, the clear box next to the "Beach Toys" homes ALL of our swimming clothes. It makes it so much easier to grab the box, sit on the lounge and hand over a Reasons swimmers and vests. The clear box below homes all the rain coats.

All the clear boxes above the balls hold all the various craft items.

Christmas decorations, Easter and other special holiday paraphernalia. It is easy to see and find what we have.

Painting necessities and Music equipment.

When a child grows out of a pair of shoes, they are put in the "hand-me-down shoes" box, ready for when another pair of feet are big enough.

When I see basic school supplies on special throughout the year, I will place them into the "School Supplies" box. Plenty of the Five Little Reasons favourite contact paper, folders, even glue sticks as low as 50c each, helps make January easier on the wallet.

Down the other side of the car is the Lawn Mower, a ladder, a "garage" vaccum cleaner (I bought a cheap one for picking up all the things I don't wish to have my Dyson subjected to), plus some extra large speakers which Brett won't let go of and the Five Little Reasons blackboard.

We don't have the room anywhere to keep the drum kit set up permanently, however it is easy to set up and pack away. During the holidays, it will stay out for longer, either in the garage or lounge room (until I get sick of it and we pack it away again!)

Oh, and see that giant blue box at the bottom? The one with the red X on it? That holds secret items purchase throughout the year ready to be wrapped and placed under the tree. Ssh... now you know my secret hiding spot! :)
