What this looks like in the lives of real victims is nothing short of Hell on Earth—men, women and children held by violence their entire lives inside brick factories; young boys forced to work completely unprotected in dangerous mines, young girls kept like dogs and raped repeatedly night after night.<br/></p> <p>If you’re like I was a few years ago, you know in a neglected part of your mind somewhere that oppression like this must exist in our world today. What I didn’t understand was how utterly dark and deplorable– and widespread–the particular evil of modern slavery is. Many advocate groups have done amazing work documenting the nature and number of this issue.
