Making his acting debut is former Premier League footballer GARY CROFT. Gary played over 50 times in the Premier League for Blackburn Rovers and also played for Grimsby Town, Cardiff City, Ipswich Town and Lincoln City before trying his hand at acting. Gary is also a VIP PRODUCER of the movie.

As it’s a bit quiet on Twitter at the moment at HOUR EIGHTEEN of our latest 60 Hour Tweetathon I thought I’d give you a quick update as to what’s been happening here at FivewayHQ.

THE SCRIPT

Myself and my co-writer Gary Adams have been hard at work over the last few weeks getting the script into order. Back in July I started writing the story for Dead Lies and then began developing it into a first draft script. This took a lot longer than I had anticipated. Over the years I’ve mainly been involved on the practical side of production so it has been a real struggle to really get these scenes I picture in my head onto paper. Therefore I have brought in my friend, scriptwriter Gary Adams, who has really helped and we’re almost there. I know I keep saying that but we’ve been really busy and we’re changing things all the time so it’s very much still a breathing document, and probably will be until the shooting script is done. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week we’ll be hard at work writing and I hope we’ll be ready to move onto the next level within TWO weeks.

INTRO SEQUENCE

The intro sequence script is finished completely and locked down. Shooting script starts on that in April in preparation for a late summer shoot. We’ve identified an amazing location for this sequence, it’s a ruined building on the outskirts of Lincoln, UK. We haven’t approached the land owner yet as we want to be sure of our financial situation before we started booking places. Should we fail to gain permission to use that location we’ve identified another bit of land we can use but it will require some set construction. Plan B would be considerably more expensive so our fingers are crossed on the original location. We are however only a few weeks away from being able to start making arrangements. We haven’t got our actress for this scene yet, she will be roughly 10 years old and must be happy to be wearing prosthetics. We’ll do the casting for this role in the summer. It will be a fun evening on set and this will be one of THREE budget busting scenes in the movie.

TAGLINE

We’ve been playing around with taglines recently and we’ve warmed to “Being bad to be good… can be a NIGHTMARE!”, what are your thoughts? Does it intrigue you? Dead Lies is largely a thriller but has a few elements of horror embedded within it so does the tagline suit the genre? Tweet me your thoughts on it.

FUNDRAISING

To date we’ve have an incredible 63 people donating an amazing £1835. All have automatically become VIP PRODUCERS of the movie and will get an end credit plus loads of other perks. I’ve chosen to use the FAN-FUNDING route for DEAD LIES because it’s an effective way to engage with movie fans in a way Hollywood could never do. When you donate you’re given access to our exclusive behind-the-scenes area where you’ll see production stills, footage, fly-on-the-wall stuff and more (this will be launched as soon as we move into full pre-production). You can also interact with us through Twitter between shoots so you’re really involved with the project from the very beginning right through to the big screen. At the moment when you make a donation I will be giving you a FREE upgrade to the next higher Producer package, so if you donate £10 you’ll get the £25 stuff, donate £25 and get the £50 package… you get the idea. ALSO we’ve got another special one for the £100 donators, if you donate £100 or more you get a DOUBLE upgrade. We’re at a crucial stage in the production, we need these initial funds to start getting plans into place, lots of travelling on location scouts, lots of equipment sourcing, hiring and buying, room hire for casting, etc, so any support you can give to our ambitious project we really do appreciate. You can find our FilmFund page here. A huge thank you to indywoodFILMS who gave us the inspiration to follow our dreams and use his model for ambitious film funding.

PLATFORM EXPOS

Next weekend we’re in Hull at the Platform Expos event. We’ll be there to promote the Dead Lies movie and independent filmmaking with Let There Be Light Productions. If you’re planning on visiting the event please say hi.

Thanks for reading this and thank you all so much for your support and your patience as I fill up your timeline with tweets during our fundraisers.

Now back to the tweeting…

Our third fundraiser begins this Friday (9th March) at 10am and will last for 60 hours until 10pm Sunday. As usual the writer/director of Dead Lies, Gary Spate, will be tweeting on Twitter non-stop without any sleep whatsoever for over 60 hours. In our previous two tweetathons we raised £500 and £540 respectively so this time we’re hoping to raise at least £600.

98% of all monies raised will go directly into the productions costs of the Dead Lies movie. The remaining 2% will go to two charities, ‘Perthes Association’ and ‘Help For Heroes’.

Join Gary on Twitter at twitter.com/FivewayFilms from 10am Friday (GMT) as he embarks on his latest EPIC fundraiser.

After the relative success of our first official fundraiser in January, we’re doing it again!

Last month our 56 Hour Tweetathon raised an impressive £510. We intend to beat that result with our second fundraiser on 24th February. Writer/director Gary Spate will once again embark on a marathon no-sleep-athon, this time for 60 (yes, SIXTY!) hours. The plan is to raise around £2000 which will go a long way towards funding the equipment and other costs associated with the shooting of our intro sequence THIS SUMMER.

If you’ve arrived straight to this page from Twitter/Facebook without knowing what we’re actually fundraising for, here’s a quick lowdown:

Fiveway Films is currently fundraising to produce the 100% FAN-FUNDED independent thriller/horror movie DEAD LIES. It will be shot in and around the beautiful Lincolnshire county including in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Lincoln. The story was devised in July 2011 and has been in the scriptwriting stage since then. Script is now close to completion. The movie has so far attached two amazing actors and one other recognisable face (if you’re a fan of football/soccer). David Anderson and Simon Burbage are both professional actors who, once we’d seen their showreels, we couldn’t refuse them a part. Former English Premier League footballer Gary Croft completes the movie’s terrible trio. This will be Croft’s first foray into acting but one he’s looking to grab hold of with both hands. We’re proud and honoured to have the three starring in our movie.

During the tweetathon Gary will be talking about the project, what’s happened so far, where he intends to go with the movie and maybe even a few snippets of info about the storyline itself which is still a closely guarded secret. The overriding aim of this tweetathon though is to raise as much cash as possible to ensure that the project runs on time, on budget and, most importantly, as successful as is humanly possible.

You can get involved in the tweetathon by ReTweeting (RT) some of the tweets over the course of the weekend, making a donation to our Film Fund and encouraging all your family, friends, colleagues and nextdoor neighbour to also do the same. This is YOUR movie project just as much as ours and we want to make it as good as we can under the constraints of a very modest budget (in independent film terms anyway).

We’re are currently on a mini campaign to get as many Twitter followers as possible, our TARGET 5000 was launched today with the aim of reaching 5,000 followers by the start of the fundraiser on the 24th. Please tell all your friends about our project and get them to follow us at @FivewayFilms

The first official Fiveway Films fundraiser for our debut movie DEAD LIES is imminent.

On Friday 27th January 2012 at 12pm (GMT) writer/director Gary Spate will embark on Fiveway’s first ever fundraising tweetathon. He will be on Twitter at @FivewayFilms from 12pm on Friday until 8pm on Sunday without any sleep with the aim of raising £5000 towards the Dead Lies movie’s Film Fund.

Gary is no stranger to tweetathons having stayed up through several of fellow movie director AD Lane’s tweetathons for his ‘Invasion of the Not Quite Dead‘ movie. In fact it was AD Lane’s passion that gave Gary the original inspiration to follow his dreams and produce his own movie, that was when Dead Lies was born.

DEAD LIES is a 100% fan-funded independent thriller movie (with a touch of horror) set in and around the county of Lincolnshire in the United Kingdom.

Joining Gary on this epic journey of sleep deprivation, hallucinations and fundraising is Gary’s brother Kelvin. Kelvin, like Gary, shares an interest in filmmaking although other work commitments has sidelined this passion for many years. This is Kelvin’s first involvement in the movie project to date although we’re sure he’ll be more prominent behind the scenes once the movie moves into full pre-production later in the year.

Back in 2010 Gary Spate wrote and directed the 5-minute short film ‘The Unluckiest Barsteward’ as part of a university project. Now it has been rewritten and will be reshot during the Summer 2012. The original short film was shot using the Sony DSR300 cameras, large, bulky things with an average quality picture. The new remake will be shot in full HD and will be extended to around twelve minutes.

On Thursday 22nd September director Gary Spate and assistant producer Sadie Ingoldby visited a location in Lincolnshire that we hope will be the setting for the intro sequence to the movie.

Nettleham Hall is a ruined stately home near Lincoln and we believe it is the perfect location for a nightmare scene that will form the intro to the movie. Providing we can gain permission to shoot there we will begin production on the movie intro in mid-2012.

Check out the short video we made of the location.
