In order to calculate child support under Minnesota law your attorney needs to gather the following information:

1. Both party’s gross monthly income
2. Which party pays health and dental insurance on behalf of the minor child(ren)
3. The monthly cost of health and dental insurance for the minor child(ren) only
4. The monthly cost of child care (day care)
5. The percentage of parenting time for each party (less than 10%; 10-45.1%; or 45.1-50%)
6. Any spousal maintenance received or paid by either party
7. Any child support received or paid by either party for a child not part of this action
8. The number of any non-joint children not part of this action

Once this information is known the numbers are submitted to the State Child Support website and a guidelines calculation is made. In most cases the guidelines calculation is used to set child support.
