Classrooms are open at LVS Online Classes for the March 2010 session! The first lesson posted on Saturday. After completing each lesson, students will submit their assignment for review on the private class message board. We would also like students of all Flash classes to post their movie project here on the Flash Class blog. Share what you learned with others and show off your creations!

But did you know there are a lot of innovative Flash templates available on the web that make web design life a little easier? Flash templates are customizable so it helps to know at least the basics of Flash to be able to customze a chosen Flash template. After you learn Flash, you may want to check out such sites as Template Monster, Entheosweb, Best Web Templates. Most Flash template sites offer free templates – which would be a good way to learn how to get around in Flash templates before you purchase one if you choose to do so.

Flash Intro Online Class: This 6 week Intro course focuses on learning the interface, tools, and basic features of Flash. You will create animated logos, buttons, and simple movies to brighten up your web site.

Flash Intermediate Online Class: In this 6 week course, you’ll be introduced to more powerful features of Flash. This intermediate course will take you beyond the basics, exploring Flash further in depth. The course focuses on creating dynamic web sites using Interactivity and basic ActionScripting. At the completion of this course you will have learned all the necessary tools and features to create low-bandwidth animations, presentations, and vector-based Web sites.

Flash Advanced Online Class: Flash MX 2004, Flash 8, and CS3 came jam-packed with so many bells and whistles that it is necessary to have a class just on the new productivity features that were not included in the earlier Flash classes. This 6 week class explores these new features in Flash, such as Timeline Effects, Behaviors, Commands & Extensions, and Image in Textfields to name just a few.

Flash FX Part 1 Online Class: In this 6 week course, we’ll begin exploring how to use the concepts learned in Intro and Intermediate to create the animation effects that add spice to your Flash movies.

This course will focus on applied Masking Techniques, Transition Techniques, Text Effect and Tips & Tricks to make your Flash life easier! Some of the effects include the use of Action Script; these will be explained and documented as necessary to allow you to use them without having to be an “Action Scripter”.

At the end of this online class you will be able to create basic transition animation, jazz up logos and banners with text & mask effects like those done in Swish, and offer quick loading Slide Shows to your viewers, among other things!

Flash FX Part 2 Online Class: In Part 2 of this 6 week course, we’ll begin exploring how to use the concepts learned in Intro and Intermediate to create the animation effects that add spice to your Flash movies.

This course will focus on effects that are transferable to your Flash projects, 3D animations, ecards, and Tips & Tricks to make your Flash life easier! Some of the effects include the use of Action Script; these will be explained and documented as necessary to allow you to use them without having to be an “Action Scripter”.

Vikki got busy with her Build Your Website, CSS, XHTML/SSL, and Homesite classes so it wasn’t easy for her to keep up with Flash. As much as she hated to give up Flash classes – she knew it was for the best and soon it was just Becky and I – so along came the Flash Actionscript classes (Becky’s a natural). Still, students wanted more – and we wanted to to see more creative stuff – so we developed the Flash FX classes (Part 1 and Part 2). These are a huge amount of fun – but due to the complexity of Flash – assignments do take considerable time to review – what with 7 Flash classes Becky and I had trouble keeping up – so now it was Frieda to the rescue, who also began as a Flash student.

Frieda was a huge joy to have in class – her enthusiasm shined through and was very positive about everything. Her attitude was refreshing and a pleasure to have in class. At some point she mentioned that she had taken 2 college classes in Flash – but neither could compare to our Flash classes here at LVS (not that we are bragging or anything). But, the difference is, we are not in it for the money – as it is for most of the instructors at LVS. I’m sure you can understand that because we don’t charge much for classes – none of the staff is going to “get rich quick”! We teach what we teach because we enjoy the topic we are instructing and enjoy sharing our knowledge. Our real reward comes from our students journey in learning and the appreciation that is shown on completion.

Our communication with students in the first couple weeks of Flash class is usually about how they don’t know the program but have wanted to learn it for so long. A lot of students relate to us that they feel Flash is too complicated but want to give it a try, with not much hope of succeeding. By the end of the 6 week class our students so happy with the progress they made – they go from not knowing what a keyframe or a motion tween is to creating logos, interactive buttons and interactive websites by the time they finish the class.

Another difference between LVS Flash classes and classes at a brick and mortar school is the support that our students receive. But don’t take my word for it – check out the reviews posted by some of our students.

Well – now we are at a new version of Flash – CS4 and due to the considerable differences in this version, once again new lessons need to be written. Becky has moved over as the instructor to the Build Your Website II class and her full time job limits her time to delve into Flash. So, it will be Frieda and I writing the new lessons for CS4 – we hope to have it ready for the May session.
