Hey, everybody this is Alex. I'm working with Austin on the AP World History Podcast so I can now write news and stuff. So you will be now seeing stuff by me. So...that's cool. And I know all of Austin's passwords, so all of his base are belong to me.

Well, the podcast should be coming out tommorow, which is still right on schedule as Tuesday was going to be an early release date. It should be on iTunes sometime soon as well. We also should have it on the official website, which is http://history.austinpray.com . ~aleX

Some Flash

I haven't done any flash work in ages, I have mainly been working with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, with some AJAX work in there. I have been doing a lot of video editing for school projects, as well as starting some new projects of my own just for fun. My most recent project for school:

And my friend and are beginning to make a podcast to help other students with AP World History. I'm editing some of the footage right now, here is what I have so far:

Ah, it seems the title of this post is "Some Flash". The reason I did that was because I made another flash. Well...it's not really an official awesome flash, and it's kind of an inside joke between my grandpa and I. I used to make my grandpa birthday cards when I was little instead of buying him a present. Well, one year I got tired of folding an 8.5 x 11 piece of printer paper in half and then drawing something stupid on it, so I figured I could make a virtual card in flash. Instead of making a virtual card, I just made a stupid movie thing. Here it is:

I need to do some real flash, doing stupid stuff like that reminds me how fun it is to make stuff in flash :).

You may notice some new things around the site. The cool javascript slide show thingy, "chat with me" button, live stream, and my personal favorite:

The "Picture of the Now" is a picture taken by my webcam every 5 minutes automatically. Most of the time I look like this:

but sometimes I look like this:

And sometimes I won't even be there at all! That's about it. But on occasion I will be playing Team Fortress 2, and I may move the camera so you guys can see the screen. Sometimes I will point the camera to something more cool to look at. If you catch something weird, save it and send it to me, and I'll post it up here or something. I'm going to try my hardest not to pick my nose.

So I have been coding the new blog system because Cutenews (the content management system this blog is currently running on) sucks. I don't know why, but I don't like it. So I am making my own.

Will I release it to the public in some kind of light weight package for aspiring web developers to easily put together a useful content management system for their website, helping thousands of people and earning myself fame at the same time?

Of course not. Unless people want their blog to be held together with a bunch of paperclips and rubber bands.

The Site is Fully Functional Again

Recently the forum and the user system have been acting up due to server-side problems. Somehow Godaddy changed some settings relevant to PHP which broke my code, leading the denied access to the user system which means a non-functional forum. I fixed the problem by, for the most part, recoding the entire user system and the forum. The interface is the same, but the back is not. While I was at it I went ahead and did some house cleaning and added some features. The house cleaning part fixed many problems which didn’t even exist yet; if they were neglected they could have lead to some problems down the road.

The original user system and forum was coded about a year and a half ago. Since then I have learned a ton more about proper PHP practices. I went ahead and implemented my new knowledge and got rid of the old, bloated code. I have set the stage and prepared the code for new features, such as

A Banhamer
Avatars
Signatures
Point Exchange system
Captcha System
More Secure Backend
Ability to buy more things, such as custom color for your username in the forum

Just added adsense integration to the site, right over there, it's pretty hard to miss :).

Update: right now I am working on coding a new blog system thing which piggybacks ontop of the flashanims user system...I am done with cutenews...It should be up in a little bit. You'll notice when it is.

Maybe instead of small blog posts for updates, how about i embed both of our twitter feeds at the top of the page? So then we could blog mobily and not waste blog space? Huh? Good idea right?

*Edit: i have a functional prototype at the top of the page. Enjoy.
