Flavoursome Delights November 2011

Hi

Well, another month has past so I thought it was probably time that I sent out an update on what’s been happening here at Flavoursome Delights.

And the winner is….

Congratulations to Stephanie from Warren, Ohio in the USA.

She was the first person to respond to my last mail out and is now the proud owner of this set of two carved sandstone candle holders.

A bit about Stephanie in her own words.

“I truly enjoy all types of food and your recipes on flavoursomedelights are awesome.
When my kids were here for Christmas last year we made the chocolate covered liquor cherries and they were
a big hit with everyone. (Everyone is of age so no worries)
Seafood dishes are my favourite and I am partial to dishes that have a sauce or gravy.”

In case you’re interested, the recipe Stephanie mentioned can be found here.

The next giveaway.

Four Piece Wooden Coaster Set

Rather than giving away some more stone candle holders. This time, I will be giving away a set of coasters made from the wood of a small to mid-sized gum tree that I had to remove from my garden because it was leaning toward the house.

You can see the details on how I made a similar set of coasters here.

On the food front.

I’ve been busy playing with sugar again this month and have finished photographing and writing up two more recipes for the kinds of candy that I used to just have to buy.

First up is the final part in my quest to make Rocky Road from scratch, Turkish delight. It takes a lot of love to get this one right, but when you do, it sure is worth it.

Finally, my recipe for honeycomb, crunchy, sweet and covered in chocolate, what more needs to be said.
You can leave us a comment on the recipe page or can even just send us an email to contact@flavoursomedelights.com if you like.
Well, Tatiana has been busy preparing the material for an upcoming course she is going to teach on Mediterranean cooking.
Hi

Here we are in the dead of winter, my least favourite time of the year. What makes it bearable? The food of course, now’s the time to eat all those hearty meals that just don’t work in the warmer months. This recipe for a Beef and Mushroom Pie is not only a winter classic; it’s also one of my favourites too.

Chocolate and Almond Pear Tart

Hi

I just love Pear and Almond tart. It is so simple to make and it tastes so delicious. When I started to cook pastries, I used tinned pears. The tart tasted great but I decided to take it to another level. When thinking of this recipe, I decided to use one of the most classic combinations, pear and chocolate. With the winter months coming, I thought this tart should be really indulgent so I first poached my pears in red wine and then used a chocolate shortcrust pastry and a tasty chocolate frangipane. The result is just divine: a moist chocolate tart with flavoursome pears! I hope you will enjoy it as much as we did!

Hi

I first came across Warm Whisky as a drink when living in Galway on the west coast of Ireland. Looking to warm up on typical Galway day (freezing cold with horizontal drizzle) we went to a pub and asked for a hot drink. They didn’t do coffee or tea but could make a hot whisky. After trying it once, it has stuck with us ever since.

Hi

The last recipe we published was for Pain Perdu or French toast. A sweet fried eggy bread made with brioche. This makes for a really beautiful breakfast but where does the brioche come from, well that’s the question I’m going to answer today.

Brioche, a sweet bread of French origin and surprisingly enough it’s actually not that hard to make.

Cheers
French Toast (Pain Perdu)

Hi

Last week, for her 3rd birthday, my little girl Isabelle had a special request: a breakfast made with brioche. This version of French toast or ‘Pain Perdu’ is what we came up with for a special birthday treat.

Cheers
Giving Something Back

Hi

This month we have something a little different to tell you about. Rather than a recipe or cooking technique I’m introducing a new program to try giving something back to you, our loyal subscribers.

It works like this. Every couple of months or so, either Tatiana or I will choose one of our email subscribers from our list and that person will receive the prize. It’s really that simple, you don’t need to do anything at all other than stay subscribed to our list.

If you’re wondering what the prizes will be, well, first up it is a set of sandstone candle holders that I made myself. The details can be found by following the link below. After that, who knows but they will all be made by me. You can also find other examples of the things I have made at the same site.

So, the first recipient will be selected on the 1st of July, if you’re signed up on that day you have a chance.

Cheers
PS. Unfortunately, I can only open this up to our email subscribers. If you’re subscribed using our RSS feed, I don’t want you to miss out but have no way of contacting you so I encourage you to sign up by email instead.
