Truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp. announced this afternoon that it has appointed Bill Kozek president of its North America Truck and Parts business. He succeeds Jack Allen, who last month was promoted to COO.

Kozek, 50, joins Navistar following a 26-year career with Paccar Inc., parent firm of both Peterbilt Motors and Kenworth Truck Co. Kozek most recently held the title of Paccar vp and general manager of Peterbilt.

Intermodal may be poised to win more freight away from TL carriers in the second half of the year due to current and impending federal regulatory efforts plus and growing driver shortage that are combining to reduce both truck productivity and capacity.

“It is clear to us that TL carriers serving long haul trucking lanes … are having difficulty finding sufficient numbers of high-quality drivers to seat their trucks,” said Ron Sucik, founder of RSE Consulting, during a webinar last week hosted by Wall Street investment firm Stifel Nicolaus.

Customers wishing to try liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks without the restrictions of a lease or purchase can now rent a truck for trial.

The program, available to fleets operating along the I-84 and I-15 corridors from Las Vegas, NV, through Utah, Idaho and eastern Oregon, is being brought to market by PacLease, its local franchise Kenworth Sales Co. and Blu LNG.

Washington State Patrol troopers will team up with the trucking industry May 20-24 to nab four-wheelers driving aggressively around big rigs as part of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks Project.

Troopers will ride along with truckers to look for motorists who are driving unsafely around big trucks. When a trooper spots a car speeding, cutting others off or driving aggressively around a truck, the trooper will radio ahead to fellow officers to stop the motorist.

Fifth trucking company sues Pilot Flying J in wake of rebate investigation

A fifth trucking company has filed suit against Pilot Flying J in the wake of a federal investigation into charges that the truck stop chain swindled truckers out of fuel rebates due them.

In a suit filed in U.S. District Court in Alabama, lawyers for Osborn Transportation of Gadsen accused Pilot Flying J of breach of contract, unjust enrichment fraud and violations of consumer protection statutes, according to a report in The Tennessean.
