Fleet Transportation is always driving in the right direction!

We are both proud and excited to be nominated for The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce 2016 Chamber Business Award due to our innovative concept and business ethics. We are competing against other local companies for this prestigious award.

The finalists will be announced at the Alexandria 2016 Chamber Business Awards event on Wednesday Oct. 19 at The George Washington Masonic National Memorial at 101 Callahan Drive, Alexandria. This is an honoring ceremony for E. Hunt Burke, the 2016 Business Leader of the Year. E. Hunt Burke is chairman of Burke & Herbert Bank.

Similar to Fleet’s dedication to all things Alexandria, Mr. Burke, his family, and his bank have a grand love for our great town. So much so that Alexandria Mayor Allison Silberberg has issued a proclamation declaring October 19th “Get Your Mustache On Day” to honor both Mr. Burke and his famous facial hair!

Grab a bite to eat after the awards part of the ceremony, as there will be a reception with food from Alexandria’s top chefs, Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve and Christophe Poteaux from Bastille restaurant. There will also be signature drinks from Todd Thrasher of PX.

You can rent and ride a bicycle from the Alexandria Waterfront (One Wales Alley, Old Town Waterfront) to George Washington’s magnificent Mt. Vernon. You must make a reservation to secure your bike (202.842.2453).

Starting Memorial Day Weekend, if you don’t want to ride both ways, Fleet will bring you back to Old Town from Mt. Vernon. Keep on eye right here for more information about these great summer tours, and hint…hint….there will be a boat option, too!

Get Rolling with Fleet and Bike and Roll DC this Summer!

New York City is known for its main attractions. You’ve got the Statue of Liberty, there’s the Empire State Building, Broadway…

And then there’s Carmine’s.

It started snugly and comfortably ensconced in New York City on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This eatery is filling stomachs with humongous portions of Italian comfort food as a staple in the city that never sleeps. The family-style Southern Italian restaurant has been impressing Manhattan tourists and locals alike since 1990 with delicious dishes in serving sizes that can be likened to a “wedding feast.” From antipasto to pasta to seafood and other traditional Italian fare, restaurateur Artie Cutler certainly goes for the “wow factor,” both in his portions and in his restaurants’ interiors.

And he certainly did wow. So much, in fact, he opened another location in 1992 on West 44th Street, just a few long strides from Times Square. Next, a new Carmine’s opened in Atlantic City in 2004, then one on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Then, finally, in 2010, Carmine’s brought their family style dining to Washington D.C., (425 7th Street NW) choosing yet another location in the center of it all: a few blocks from the Verizon Center, where the Washington Wizards play and every big named artist stops to do a show, in D.C.’s very popular Chinatown district. Here, because of the numerous VIPs and hungry tourists, according to the restaurant’s site, private groups are a top priority. This is quite a plus for celebs and politicians hoping to have a quiet dinner or lunch without constant interruptions.

But Artie didn’t stop there. In 2013, the latest edition of the restaurant opened up, this time in Las Vegas at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace on the strip. The Vegas location takes after Carmine’s portion size: With 750 seats and nine private rooms, this location is the largest to date!

Breaking bread is more than just a saying; it can really be a way of life when you eat at restaurants such as Carmine’s that focus on friends, family and fellowship over a hot and wonderfully prepared meal. It doesn’t get much better than that! Mangia!
