Jonathan May's "Desert Ink" exhibition featuring during Head On Festival

The Head On Photo Festival is just around the corner! We're super excited about one exhibition in particular - Jonathan May will be showcasing his "Desert Ink" series at the Gaffa Gallery in Sydney.

Desert Ink is a tale of eight Mexican tattoo artists from the wrong side of the tracks, who following their love of art and tattooing found the will to change. With identities forged in street furnaces of gang banging, shoot outs, drug dealing and jail time, this band of men crafted new identities, forming a new type of gang, united by art and their determination to earn a decent living, rising from the trappings of their nefarious past lives. A lot of their brothers are either still doing time, or six feet underground.

Design festivities begin this week in Italy where FLIPP stylist Emma Elizabeth is busy lapping up all there is to see and do during the Milan Design Week. Emma will be keeping track of her explorations on the newly launched Local Design blog. Having spent some time in Berlin, Emma has kicked things off in Milan with a visit to the stunning Moooi showcase. Keep an eye on the blog for more stylish adventures!

The freshly launched Local Design is the brainchild of Emma Elizabeth and brother James Coffey, who saw the need for a platform to unite designers and creatives. The site is a carefully curated online community that promotes unique and authentic design by local professionals and supports collaboration with some of Australia's finest!

Set in 1979 our cast travels north of Perth, Western Australia to the coastal town of Lancelin."

Calling all meat lovers: Murray shoots for Vic's Meat Market

The Sydney Fish Market probably isn't the first place where you would think to look for a delicious pulled pork roll or a wagyu tasting station. But Vic's Meat Market is hoping to change that! Murray Fredericks took some interior shots of the new store designed by Paul Kelly Design, which contains a refrigerated butcher shop as well as a sandwich bar.

The meat market also boasts Australia's largest imported meat smoker, straight from Yoder Smokers in Kansas City; 'Kong' can hold a whopping 200kg of meat! You can take a look behind the scenes at the market here.

QAGOMA acquires several Stuart Miller portraits

Three portraits from the haunting and powerful Blood Generation series by Stuart Miller have been acquired by Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA). Stuart collaborated with artist Taloi Havini to take an honest and bold look at the 'Blood Generation' of Bougainville, who grew up during a period of conflict and unrest. Several other photos from this series were also collected by The National Gallery of Victoria earlier this year.

Dean Zillwood creates beautiful montages of the Hutt River

This tranquil spot is where the river meets the sea on the Hutt River in Wellington. Dean was commissioned by Woburn Retirement Village to create artwork that centres around the river landscape. Each montage, which will be installed as noise reduction panels, took 4-5 hours to shoot in order to capture the changing moods of the river. Looking forward to seeing the panels all set up!
