Knowing which perfume to buy for the woman in your life is something of an art form. Buying the cheapest will not tend to score you brownie points, yet buying the most expensive may well not suit your girlfriend and mark you out as a pushover.

Basically, you should not just grab the first bottle you see. You need to take time over selecting the right perfume which would have a fragrance that compliments your woman.

You should first know whether your woman actually uses and enjoys perfume, because there are those who don’t. Has she ever worn perfume for you? Does she have any perfume bottles already? If not, you may well be wasting your money, which may be better spent on something else.

However, most women do like to smell good. With that in mind, test each one you come across, and think about how it would smell on that person. Everyone’s body chemistry is different. A certain perfume may smell good at the fragrance counter, but won’t smell the same on someone else, and certainly won’t smell the same on test paper. So, whenever possible, try the perfume on the person you will be buying it for.

Fragrances come in virtually endless varieties, but are based around a few main types, such as citrus, floral, fruity, leather, woody or aquatic. If you happen know which type smells best on your mate, then selecting the right perfume will be easier. You can also tell the person at the perfume counter what your loved one’s favorite fragrance is, and ask for a recommendation that’s similar.

To make the perfume’s fragrance last, avoid storing it near heat and light. Stored properly, the scent can last for years. A few drops are all that’s needed, so locking in the perfume’s unique aroma will prevent it from smelling “off” a few months after purchase.

There you have it. A basic guide to buying the right fragrance for your mate. It’s not complicated, but at the same time, you want to get it right. On a side note, not only will she enjoy it, but you will too.

What’s the best way to ask somebody out on a date? Obviously you need to make an approach, and whereas that can be difficult if you are not confident, and especially if you have taken knocks before, one thing’s for sure: if you don’t do it, you will not go out on a date with that person; if you do do it, you may get to date them. Here is my most powerful tip that could really help you a great deal!

Of course, this is mainly aimed at men, but there is no reason that the exact same technique couldn’t work for you if you are a woman.

If you do have any confidence issues, imagine yourself being successful. Think of a time when you were successful, not necessarily at asking somebody out; it could be something like passing a driving test, for example. Then, imagine yourself as a larger-than-life character, walking up to the person you want to have a date with, asking them out. Imagine your “prospect” smiling, saying, “Yes, I’d love to go out on a date with you!” Take the feeling you had when you thought of the time you were successful, and in your imagination, step into that character as if you were putting them on like a suit! Turn up the volume; make the colours more vivid; and keep imagining yourself making successful approach after successful approach! You are the prize that lucky person has been waiting for; she/he might get to date you!

The secret behind this technique is that, if you can imagine that feeling of confidence, success and achievement several times while imagining successfully asking somebody out on a date, that’s the feeling you will get when you do ask them out. If they say yes, brilliant! You’ve achieved what you wanted to achieve. If they don’t, it doesn’t matter. You’re still feeling on top of the world, and you know that there are plenty more people who may be lucky enough to get a date with you.

The more times you try this technique, the more powerful it becomes. It would be ideal if you tried it every day for three weeks; that would almost certainly drive away any doubts.

Dutch dating, or “to go dutch,” is the process of dating somebody in any way where each person covers their own costs. This means that if you are going for a meal together, you both pay independently for what you buy. In this article I am assuming a man and a woman are dating.

Whether this approach is for you is something that you will have to decide. If you are a man, are you looking for a woman who is independent and not looking for a free meal ticket for life? Or do you see yourself more as the type of person who “brings home the bacon,” as it were, and prefer to pay the entire tab yourself?

Women may wish to go dutch for other reasons. Usually if one person pays on a first date, it would be the man; it demonstrates an attitude of fairness if the woman offers to pay for herself. Some women may not even be comfortable if their date pays for them. On the other hand, other women may wish to “test” their potential suitor to see whether he will pay, and is capable of providing for any future family that may occur.

If a man is paying for a first date, it can also set up an undesirable situation in which either or both parties think that the woman owes something to the man in question. This situation can be avoided completely by going dutch.

Going dutch can also avoid the situation in which one person’s tab is significantly higher than the other’s. For example, assuming the man is paying for dinner and a soft drink for himself, and the woman has gone for a starter, the most expensive dinner on the menu, a dessert and wine, this could set up a resentment situation, which neither of you will wish for.

Both people can have reasons for preferring the approach to be dutch or man paying, so the decision you should take if you want to do what the other person wants may be difficult to make without making assumptions. The way I handle this situation at the start of a relationship is to go dutch, because that I feel in the modern era is the fair way to go about dating, and I don’t worry about losing a woman because she wasn’t prepared to pay for herself. There are plenty of women out there, after all! But this approach will not suit everybody; I am a somewhat selfish person.

I came across a blog post written some months ago in which somebody has analysed the subscriber base and subscription rate of paid dating sites. The post is here: “New Report: Online Dating in 2006.”

The main thrust of the article is that paying subscribers to dating sites account for approximately 5% of their membership, down from 6% in 2005. If this is the case, then people really are wasting a great deal of time and money 95% of the time on paid dating sites that require both members to be subscribers before two-way communication can be established. Most paid sites fall into this category.

You are lucky, because you have a choice. You may not have been aware of free dating sites before now. They do exist, and you can find out a lot about them by browsing through the articles here. If you use these sites, the subscriber base can easily email each other for free, so you won’t be wasting 95% of your time emailing people who won’t reply.

In fairness, there are also some paid dating services that allow the receiver of any message to reply to you at any time. If you do use a paid dating service, I recommend that you use one of these. If it costs extra money for that subscription option, I believe it’s likely to be money well spent.

Michael’s obviously taken some time to pass his opinions of many free dating sites in his article. Of course, my own Cheeky Monkey Dating service is too young to be listed, having come to life later than the article was published. I can see that I’ve got my work cut out for me with that site. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The list of comments shows that many other dating services are out there. I think it’s worth spending time registering with all of the appropriate free dating services if you’re going to register with any.

I hope Michael won’t mind if I copy out the list of free online dating sites that are included in his article and the comments. I’ve excluded all sites where I am aware that the site charges for basic services such as contacting the other person, but for the most part, bear in mind that I haven’t checked the services that are listed here:

Google Base was listed, but when I followed the link on the article, it took me to a search that contained pages and pages of “Meet me on hotornot.com.” I don’t personally think that Google qualifies as a free dating site, although I am certain that if they wished to start one, they would clean up in the area, and provide serious competition for the likes of match.com and Yahoo! Personals.

While browsing through the women’s clothing section of my local supermarket, I came across a T-shirt that had the following slogan:

“I’m on the pull!”

This is a very simple, neat, and effective flirting technique. The wearer of this T-shirt is indicating that she is open to approaches; that she is single and available; and she is also providing an excellent opportunity to start a conversation, because you’re already giving men something to comment on!

Any funny or to-the-point slogan like that that makes it obvious that you’re looking for a date will be useful in attracting men. It won’t be appropriate for all settings, of course, but at most parties and pubs, this should work wonders for getting approaches! Men still need confidence to approach you, but you should find that you generate quite a bit of interest by using a T-shirt with a slogan such as this. Make sure to couple it with open body language (see other articles on this site for details) and you’ll definitely generate interest.

PlentyOfFish, the free online dating site, has sparked some controversy in recent comments written on this independent site by users of the service.

As with all the dating agency reviews that I write, in my PlentyOfFish review, I solicit comments from users of the service. Thousands of people have seen my review, and the only comments that I have received about the service have been negative.

People participating in the PlentyOfFish forums have allegedly had their profiles deleted without any warning at all. Whereas the terms and conditions of the service appear to permit this to happen, this is not something you expect to see happen with a service like that, especially when you are making friends on the forum! It seems that unpaid volunteers moderate the forum, and they have the power to delete profiles.

If you ignore the forum then you may find PlentyOfFish to be exactly what you need in terms of an online dating service, but it seems that you can easily get into dodgy ground on the forum from the comments received on this site.
