In Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Roony Mara and Casey Affleck star as a star-crossed couple on the lam, and it looks pretty intense. Also, as Dre brings up regularly on Flixist's podcast, Flixistentialism, Casey Affleck is dreamy. And also a good actor probably but seriously, look at how pretty he is, and what a bad boy his character is and gahhhhh...

Anyway, Ain't Them Bodies Saints got pretty positive feedback after its debut at Sundance, and was even compared to Terrence Malick's Badlands which makes it sounds pretty great. Both Mara and Affleck look like they give strong performances based off of this trailer. Ain't Them Bodies Saints will open later this summer on August 16th.

A new motion poster (also known as the .gif's more sophisticated older sibling) has been released for Kimberly Peirce's adaptation of the Stephen King novel -- Carrie. The motion poster features a central image of Carrie, played by Chloe Grace Moretz, (who by the way is 16 years old) broken up into several smaller segments that flash with vaguely scary imagery from the movie. Oh, also the central image of Moretz features the phrase "Keep Calm and Carrie On," a spin on the WWII slogan.

Two things: are motion posters really that cool? They're like a weird half-way step between an image or poster and a trailer, and they rarely offer any new information. Personally I don't care much for them and I hope they're just a fad. Speaking of fads, can we please agree to stop using the phrase "Keep ____ and Carry ____"? It's so overused. I'd rather hear "WASSUUUPP" again. Anyway, hit the jump to see the motion poster and Carrie will open in theaters October 18th, 2013.

You're then going to want to learn more about it and we'll happily oblige. We interviewed the film's director, Joshua Oppenheimer, at SXSW this year and it's easily one of the most interesting interviews we've done.

Though our review isn't up yet due to an embargo I think you can tell from Hubert's hinting (not to mention the quotes in the trailer) that the film is powerful and really quite good. It looks like one of those documentaries that everyone will be talking about and once you read the interview you'll know why.

To commemorate ROTJ hitting dirty thirty, Entertainment Weekly reached out to director Kyle Newman (Fanboys) and asked him to make a short doc where people share their feelings and memories about the film. To be fair, I preferred to catch the show on DVD rather than watch it during Fox broadcasts because of my personal preference of TV digestion (marathon viewings, no waiting, no commercials, captions); I admit, I was probably part of the problem that caused the show's untimely demise.

With a revival in the form of a Netflix-exclusive 4th season premiering this week, it's only fitting that The Arrested Development Documentary Project found its release this month. Directed by two self-admitted Arrested Development superfans, the documentary shares some insight on the history behind the series directly from various cast and crew, including Mitch Hurwitz, Ron Howard, and a majority of the cast, as well as a number of fans.

However, how well does the documentary fare compared to the numerous behind-the-scenes features on the series' DVDs?

Occasionally, that person is me.

Without fail, there will be at least one person who then says, "You're an idiot. A remake doesn't somehow invalidate the existence of the old film or ruin that old experience for you. Pop in the original and all will be forgotten."

And that one person will be wrong, because a bad remake can invalidate the existence of an old film and ruin that old experience.

The film is an adaptation of Maziar Bahari's book Then They Came for Me, a non-fiction account of Bahari's imprisonment and torture in Iran while covering the country's 2009 presidential election. Strangely, Bahari's appearance on The Daily Show prior to his imprisonment was used as evidence against him by the Iranian government.

Rosewater now has its lead: Gael García Bernal. Bernal is a really great and versatile actor, with roles in films like No, Y Tu Mamá También, The Loneliest Planet, Bad Education, and a forthcoming post-apocalyptic Zorro movie.

Bernal's presence is a good sign, and his performance ought to add even more weight to the already heavy material. Expect more information on Rosewater as the film goes into production.

Keeping that quality and that momentum going into a third film made another nine years later seemed like an insurmountable challenge. With Before Midnight, I wanted to temper my expectations, because I didn't want to be disappointed. A good (even great) follow up to a spectacular film can be buried under the weight of expectations, and if Before Midnight was going to be good (or even great), I wanted to give it a fair shot.

In the end, I wasn't able to temper my expectations. I saw Before Midnight expecting to see Jesse and Celine, nine years later, just as witty and compelling as ever. Whatever the hell they're doing Jean-Claude Van Damme will not be involved instantly making this version the weaker one. One assumes that the plot will once again follow a cop who travels through time to stop time traveling criminals, but Universal says they will be re-imagining the idea of Timecop so who knows. Maybe it'll be a cop who polices watch stores.

As one of the first R-rated films I ever saw in a theater, Timecop holds a special place in my heart. That doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to a remake. The film should have been a franchise, but it's television spin-off and straight to DVD sequel both sucked so it didn't last. Now it has a second chance, and as long as that second chance has a man doing splits in his underwear onto the kitchen counter then I'm all for it.

Today we have an interesting development from Bryan Singer on Twitter (your premier source for everything related to X-Men: Days of Future Past.)

Singer tweeted the following:

Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.

I'm pretty sure that both Fox and Marvel Studios have the rights to use Quicksilver so long as Fox avoids references to The Avengers and Marvel avoids references to the X-Men, but maybe something else is happening here. You should definitely read the full article on Vulture for all of the math, but I've grabbed a few choice words here:

It's conceivable they could accelerate with the thing… Can they accelerate as fast as the movie dictates? Probably not

[On swinging the safe like a mace] The only way that would happen is if the friction on the tires was enough to anchor the movement, and my instinct would be no...Because if it had that much momentum and the safe's that heavy, it would just rip the car with it.

O'Connor and Toretto would need more than 198,000 horsepower to move the safe as quickly as happens in the film.

They then discover that in order to really pull a bank vault as Dom and Brian did, we would actually need 467 CARS. So yeah, you can go screw yourself science. Ruinin' my movie.

Out in Chicago, the Movies in the Parks series will launch in June and run through September in various parks throughout the city. The outdoor screening series is in its 13th year. Admission is free.

The first film will be Rise of the Guardians on June 13th at Ken-Well Park. Other films screening over the summer include Skyfall, Spaceballs, The Amazing Spider-Man, Goonies, Life of Pi, Back to the Future, Men in Black III, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and ParaNorman.

Also, there are two Bollywood film music and dance medleys. Awesome.

This means that you'll need to take out a loan if you want to waste your money on World War Z and a medium popcorn with 10W-40 synthetic butter. It also means that World War Z has a slightly better chance of breaking even, upgrading from "a snowball's chance in hell" to "bwahaha-pfft, oh hell no."

Regal CEO Amy Miles said, "As long as we continue to provide that great, affordable out-of-home experience... people are going to continue to go to the movies." No word on if she used air quotes or stifled a laugh when saying the word "affordable."

A hike of 3% to 4% doesn't seem like much, but it adds up. What's also problematic is the theater experience itself. Let me be frank: every time I go to the movies, I realize how much people f**king suck at going to the movies. So many a**hole moviegoers seem to exist only to ruin your experience: they talk, text, receive calls, whine, kick seats, bring their stupid crying babies, and just become general nuisances. Worse, these jerkwads are totally oblivious to the fact that they are horrible, horrible, horrible people.

Ahem. So... How do you feel about rising ticket prices?

It was odd and abrupt, especially since the script was in place and Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) was all set to direct.

Sam Neill, star of the first and third films in the Jurassic Park franchise, may hold an answer to all this. In an interview with The Dominion Post about his winery, Neill said the following about Jurassic Park 4: "I'm told it's a big reboot, a total re-jig."

Neill isn't expected to appear in the next Jurassic Park movie, and it's unclear where he heard this from, so let's file this as a rumor for now. My guess: Neill learned this info from cutting up the covers to various Sutter Cane novels.

The very fact that it has made it to a third part should be either celebrated or questioned. The series started out with a simple idea, "Hey, why don't we have a bunch of funny guys blackout in Vegas?" and then went on to expand that idea in the sequel, "Hey, why don't we do the same thing as last time but in Bangkok? Get it? Cause it's a funny name!" Now with The Hangover Part III, the series throws out its tired formula in favor of something darker and more "grounded" than before.

How does Part III execute this formula? By focusing its story around two of the franchise's weirdest characters, creating an awkward mishmash of comedy, violence, and nudity. But the main question here is: Is The Hangover Part III partying hard or hardly partying?

You don't really put Disney, Pixar and dance music together too often, especially when discussing an animated film, but this new trailer for Monsters University is also debuting some new music from Swedish House Mafia... and it works. We'll have to wait and see if it fits in with the rest of Randy Newman's score, but we're guessing it is just going to crop up during a party scene or montage.

Otherwise the trailer shows off plenty of new footage for us to gape at. Lot's of awesome monster designs here, especially the furry, two-legged creature we see. As far as Pixar's sequels go I don't think I've looking forward to one more unless it started with Toy and ended with Story. I realize that actually eliminates a good chunk of them, but still.

With each new project, there is hope that maybe it will be the one to bring him back into the spotlight. Sure, it's been a few decades of disappointment, but maybe.

The next maybe brings Coppola back to the story that really made him famous in the first place, kind of. His next project, which is thus far untitled, is a film about an Italian-American family from the 1930s to the 1960s. Given that it took two excellent films and one not-so-excellent one for Coppola to tell the (singular) decade spanning Godfather trilogy, I'm curious how large scale this project will be. Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America covers a similar historical period and is famous for its 269 minute runtime (which was slashed to 139 for its American theatrical release), and I'm curious if that will be a benchmark in terms of both quality and quantity.

There's not much else to go on other than the fact that longtime collaborator Fred Roos will be producing and it will be cast by Courtney Bright and Nicole Daniels, who worked on Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring. Those things do nothing to inspire confidence or instill dread, so we'll have to wait for more information before making any kinds of judgments, but you know what, Coppola's pretty good at Italian-American family dramas. Maybe this will be the one.

Maybe.

During an online Q & A with Yahoo, Wright noted that the film was partially inspired by reunion movies like The Big Chill and It's Always Fair Weather (which Jackie Chan should remake). Pegg added in an interview with Collider that the film's soundtrack will feature songs from 1987-1992.

The World's End hits UK theatres on August 14th and then hits US theaters on August 23rd.

Iceman 3D centers on a frozen Ming warrior thawed out in modern times. He dukes it out against another unfrozen man from his era. (This was obviously the first and superior draft of Eugene O'Neill's play The Iceman Cometh.) The film also stars Baoqiang Wang, Shengyi Huang, and Simon Yam.

No word yet on a release date. After the cut I've included the trailer for 1989 version of The Iceman Cometh.

I would wander around half-drunk and half-heat-stroked every day in a summer jacket and hat, watching movies to get out of the sun, giving weak high-fives and terrorist fist jabs to celebrities in crowded elevators, and speaking what little broken French I remember from college in order to woo les belles filles avec mon charme Americain.

Instead, I'm in my apartment wearing mismatched sandals wondering how I'm going to cook red potatoes for a late lunch. I'm also wondering what I may watch on Netflix Instant this weekend (other than Arrested Development, of course, which debuts on May 26th).

Compared to the last two weeks, it's very light. Dragon (Wu Xia) with Donnie Yen has been added, as has The Dictator with Sasha Baron Cohen and Academy Award-winning thespian Sir Ben Kingsley. You can also watch Asylum's cheap-o DTV rip-off Jack the Giant Killer, which, in all honesty, probably couldn't be any better or worse than Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer.

Check out the new stuff on Netflix Instant after the cut, and prepare to get a little uncanny.

His answer may turn a few heads since the last we heard about it they were simply tossing the idea around, but now he says they're planning to start shooting this fall. He also reports that it will be a college comedy and have a big ensemble cast.

The "sequel" will really have nothing to do with the original film, but may feature McConaughey's character Wooderson if previous reports are true. The movie had a rumored name as well: That's What I'm Talking About. If they are filming soon this could mean it's Linklater's next project, and definitely means they've got the funding for it. We're guessing a 2014 release since he's got Boyhood (the one that he's been filming as the actors grow older) scheduled for release in 2015.

A new trailer dropped last night for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. It uses the General Zod viral video as a starting point and builds out from it to showcase a little of the mayhem to come.

Now, I might be in the vast minority here, but I think the previous Man of Steel trailer was better, and that this trailer may be one too many. It's not like people forgot that a Superman movie was coming out this year, or like they stopped caring.

Man of Steel hits theaters on June 19th. In the gallery are three character posters for the film depicting Henry Cavill as Superman, Michael Shannon as General Zod, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.

But, it's not because the Academy has redacted their (probable) love of rape jokes or because the critical uproar in the wake of MacFarlane's preformance lead to any introspection, embarrassment or even guilt on the part of the Academy, it's because MacFarlane is just too darn busy.

Despite saying early on that he wouldn't want to host the Oscars a second time, the Academy asked MacFarlane to return as host for the 2014 Oscars after the 2013 awards show saw a huge increase in younger viewers. Yesterday though, MacFarlane took to twitter to squash any rumors of his return and said that "[he's] unable to do the Oscars again." He added that he "tried to make it work schedule-wise, but [he] need[s] sleep." He also suggested Joaquin Phoenix as the next Oscar host, and sounds like a pretty entertaining idea, if maybe for the wrong reasons. Whoever the next Oscar host is, just lay-off the rape jokes, please.

In case we didn’t know this from the first trailer that was released, we can reaffirm that Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Simon Pegg, and Rosamund Pike are all starring in this film. Again, like the trailer, we see some people in the background with glowing eyes that resembles something like Invasion of the Body Snatchers to a degree.

For those who don’t know, this will be the last film in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy that Wright, Pegg, and Frost have all been involved in. The first two films are Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

The World’s End is expected to hit US theaters August 23rd. Check out the gallery below for the new posters thanks to FirstShowing.

The latest trailer for The Lone Ranger is here, apparently disproving the last trailer's status as the final trailer. There's even more Armie Hammer, more Johnny Depp, more trains, more horses, and more face paint. Like Nick said in that aforementioned post, it feels just like a Bruckheimer film, complete with Johnny Depp in a silly gimmick character.

July 4th. The Lone Ranger. I'm already calling it now: That week's Box Office Numbers will be titled "The Forever Alone Ranger." Good one, Geoff.

While opinions have been relatively lackluster about the film since it's international debut at the Berlin Film Festival, I think most of us are just hoping to get some martial arts eye candy at the very least. And from the looks of these photos and the previous teasers we've seen, we ought to be able to expect that from The Grandmaster.

The Grandmaster will be based on the life of IP Man, though loosely. The real IP Man was a revered martial arts teacher who lived in Hong Kong after the Second Sino-Japanese War, where he had many famous students including Bruce Lee. The Grandmaster will release in the US on August 23rd, 2013.

I get less and less excited about The Wolverine as we get closer to release. It was already the summer superhero film I was least looking forward to, but the trailers just aren't exciting me. This new one digs a bitter deeper into what's going on in Logan's psyche and personal life with a Jean Grey cameo, but that just reminds me of how bad Last Stand was.

The fighting looks decent, but there's not enough here to fully judge. Aside from the that the story line as represented here is pretty bland. Hopefully it fills out a bit more. At least the claws don't look horribly fake, right?

According to Vesth, there will be graphic sex scenes featuring actors Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia LaBeouf, and Uma Thurman, but she confirmed that the actors's faces will be digitally placed on porn star body doubles.

Here's how Vetsh described the process to The Hollywood Reporter:

"We shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two," Vesth explained. "So above the waist it will be the star and the below the waist it will be the doubles."

LaBeouf had suggested the sex in the film would all be real, which is still sort of true. It'll just be a bit of partial digital trickery. The post-production will also include double exposure techniques during the sex scenes to juxtapose image and words over the schtupping. Vetsh also revealed that the film is actually two parts, and von Trier still has to finish part two, which is another reason that the film wasn't ready for Cannes. (Well... all that and possibly the Nazi thing.)

The first part of Nymphomaniac will premiere in Copenhagen, Denmark on Christmas Day. Nymphomaniac Part 2: The Smell of Fear will be out some time in 2014.

Leading the way is Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the big screen The Last Stand, along with the horror anthology The ABCs of Death, the Jason Statham flick Parker, Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects, and the surprisingly cruddy Pacino/Walken/Arkin movie Stand Up Guys. Also worth noting on the new release front, I noticed This Girl is Badass starring female ass-kicker JeeJa Yanin. It's not as good as Chocolate, and a lot of that has to do with the underselling in the fight scenes, which could have been shot better. (Dynamic movement within the frame, people!)

On the re-release side, Criterion Collection is putting out Medium Cool, Full Moon is releasing the Evil Bong trilogy, and Blue Underground has a nice four-movie spaghetti western set that includes Sergio Corbucci's Django. Many cheaper DVD reissues coming out as well, including Top Secret, Wonder Boys, Beavis & Butt-Head Do America, You Can Count on Me, and Paper Moon. The last two (or three) are actually good contenders for future Criterion releases, especially Paper Moon.

After the cut, this week's DVD and Blu-ray releases, and a bit of Arnold being Arnold.

We've already heard that the films will focus on a younger generation of Ghostbusters, with the old guys passing the torch, but little else has been leaked. On The Larry King Now Dan Aykroyd, who is writing the screenplay, let a bit more slip.

"It's based on new research that's being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University. Basically, there's research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width and time, become threatened by some of the research that's being done. Ghostbusters -- new Ghostbusters -- have to come and solve the problem."

Sounds like a really loose excuse to have ghosts pop up and then have people bust said ghosts. While the plot plays a part of the quality of any movie the reason the Ghostbuster films worked is because the cast was so awesome together. Hopefully that chemistry can be established with this new generation.

Oh, and Bill Murray? Still out, but there's a spot for him Aykroyd said.

He has a weird way of turning moments of boredom into something complicated and interesting, as seen in Stranger Than Paradise, Down by Law, Night on Earth, and Mystery Train. He's also capable of the unexpected, like in Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai and The Limits of Control.

Only Lovers Left Alive falls firmly into the unexpected category. This is Jarmusch's riff on vampire movies set in Detroit and Tangier, starring Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton as blood-sucking lovers Adam and Eve. The film also stars Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt, Anton Yelchin, and Jeffrey Wright. In his director's statement, Jarmusch notes that the film was partly inspired by Mark Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve, and that part of the story will involve finding clean, disease-free blood in the 21st century.

In the gallery are some images from Only Lovers Left Alive. After the cut is Jim Jarmusch's full director's statement about the film. Only Lovers Left Alive will screen at Cannes this weekend.

They're still in negotiations, as far as anyone knows. No official announcement yet from Disney.

Latino Review is now speculating that another actor is in talks for the film: Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who you may know from The Tudors, Mission: Impossible III, and Woody Allen's Match Point. It's unclear what role Meyers would play in the film, and it's all rumor at this point.

If you ask me, they should cast John Rhys-Davies and give the dude a laser axe and a recurring gag where he says "Bad dates" in each film of the new trilogy.

With the release of the Oldboy remake coming ever closer and the announcement of a remake of Lady Vengeance, it was only a matter of time before the first film in Park Chan-Wook's incredible Vengeance Trilogy was remade for American audiences. Still, I hoped it wouldn't happen. Of the three films, Mr. Vengeance is the least foreigner-friendly, and I can't see American audiences reacting well to its extremely bleak narrative (much moreso than either Oldboy or Lady Vengeance, both of which end on somewhat hopeful notes). Despite all that, the unfortunate has happened, and remake rights have been picked up.

Behind the project are Silver Reel and Lotus Entertainment, backed by, bizarrely enough, Lorenzo di Bonaventura Mark Vahradian, producers of the Transformers films. Along with that pair, Broken City writer Brian Tucker has penned a script that, according to Deadline, "centers on two men who are bound by their common sense of loss and headed on a collision course of revenge." It's a vague description to be sure, but words like "bound" and "collision course" imply generic and dumb, and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is neither of those things. The original is a complex and disturbing film, and my opinion of the best Vengeance film oscillates frequently between it and Oldboy.

In other words, it shouldn't be marred by American hands. Certainly not the ones that produced Transformers. That's just horrible. Remakes of the latter two films in the Trilogy are bad enough. A terrible trifecta will only make life worse for everybody.

If they asked me, I'd certainly love to - let's put it that way. But I don't know what the script is. I don't know what Arnold wants. I'm a big fan in fact of Conan. That's a great movie and I found that the composer, Basil Poledouris, basically inspired many of my movies [the soundtracks] like Arnold, Robocop, Starship Troopers and Total Recall. The score of Conan is great. The style of editing that (John) Milius used was very beautiful, and Arnold does a great job. He was really the perfect choice.

The project is slated for a 2014 release and will probably get underway as soon as a director is chosen.

It's because she's damn near naked. The Internet obviously likes seeing her covered in blue scales, and never let it be said the we here at Flixist deny the internet what it wants. Here you will find the first image of Lawerence as Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

She looks a lot like she did before as she should considering she shouldn't really age. The image comes from director Bryan Singer's Twitter where he's been sharing tons of pictures from the set, but hopefully not too many spoilers.
Here is the trailer for The Young and Prodigious Spivet, the latest from Amelie and City of Lost Children director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The film is an adaptation of the book The Selected Works of T. S. Spivet by Reif Larsen, and stars Helena Bonham Carter, Jeunet regular Dominique Pinon, and Kyle Catlett making his feature film debut in the title role. Here's a synopsis for the film:

A 12-year-old cartographer secretly leaves his family's ranch in Montana where he lives with his cowboy father and scientist mother and travels across the country on board a freight train to receive an award at the Smithsonian Institute.

It looks like a nice bit of whimsy on the road that fits with the stills from the film we shared a few weeks ago, and it's usually pretty amusing to see how directors from another country interpret America.

The Young and Prodigous Spivet will be out in France on October 16th. No word yet on international release dates.
