We love doing business in Columbia, S.C., not least because we have a great team here at Flock and Rally: Integrated Communications for a Brave New South.

We collaborate with clients to launch and refresh brands; develop and implement integrated communications and marketing plans; execute public relations strategies; run project management on complex marketing timelines; build and manage social media empires; develop websites; plan large-scale initiatives; roll out massive traditional and digital advertising campaigns; and raise brand awareness in the Midlands, across the Carolinas and beyond.

Serving industry sectors ranging from hospitality, lifestyle and tourism to business, technology, real estate, economic development and more, Flock and Rally’s mission is to rally the community around great ideas.

What started as a partnership focused on event planning and marketing has transformed over the years into a full-service creative agency that develops new brands, launches major campaigns, and manages integrated communications and marketing for clients across the state and beyond.

We typically serve 25-30 clients at one time, ranging from major, year-round contracts to shorter, 6- to 9-month projects. We are committed to working transparently and giving our clients the most value possible.

One of the great joys of our company's history has been the opportunity to create the 2019 branding, marketing and advertising campaign for the South Carolina State Fair, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019 and introduced a free daily circus — a new trend in the fairs and expositions industry.

Our team developed a theme, "Prize-Winning Memories," to reflect the nostalgia and excitement of the fair's milestone anniversary.

The S.C. State Fair team was an amazing partner, empowering us to be as creative as our imaginations would allow. We worked with our design partner, Cait Maloney, to create a special 150th anniversary logo as well as multiple sets of whimsical graphics, including a suite featuring a pig in circus attire atop the State Fair's iconic Rocket — riding a unicycle and juggling corn dogs — as one of our key visuals for the campaign.

The South Carolina State Fair, a self-supporting 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was organized in 1869 and is dedicated to preserving and promoting South Carolina’s agricultural roots while supporting statewide education. The South Carolina State Fair has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships since 1997. The State Agricultural and Mechanical Society of South Carolina brand has always been associated with highlighting the best of our state.

When Columbia, S.C. was identified as a leading total eclipse viewing destination, Merritt McNeely, then marketing director at the S.C. State Museum, galvanized regional officials and tourism experts to form a steering committee and create a massive campaign to raise awareness of the region, not only for eclipse visitors, but to encourage year-round tourism as well.

The steering committee was comprised of representatives from the South Carolina State Museum, the Experience Columbia SC destination marketing organization (DMO), the City of Columbia, One Columbia for Arts and History, the Columbia Fireflies and the Capital City Lake Murray Country tourism authority.

With Flock and Rally at the helm for creative services and integrated communications, the Total Eclipse Weekend Columbia, S.C. campaign was developed to reach travelers across the East Coast and beyond.

It is estimated that roughly 400,000 visitors traveled to and within the Midlands region to view the total solar eclipse, and economic impact is estimated at $48 million for Richland County alone.

The Total Eclipse Weekend Columbia, SC campaign won the Best in Show Mercury Award at the 2018 Mercury Award ceremony, hosted by the South Carolina chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

The S.C. African American Heritage Commission hired Flock and Rally to create a new brand, mobile web travel guide and publicity campaign for The Green Book of South Carolina, the first-ever mobile web travel guide to 300+ African American cultural sites across S.C.

With a diverse team, Flock and Rally focused on a tourism-first social media campaign and individual pitches to East Coast African American publications, resulting in coverage by NBC BLK, Essence and more.

The Green Book of South Carolina has garnered multiple awards, including a 2017 Mercury Award from the SC Public Relations Society of America (SC PRSA); the Southeast Tourism Society's 2018 “Shining Example” Award in Niche Marketing; and a 2017 Palmetto Award of Excellence in Integrated Marketing Communications Campaigns from the South Carolina chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

Za's on Devine is a local, independently owned neighborhood restaurant with a fantastic wine list, chill atmosphere, and delicious, casual dishes including some of Columbia's best big salads.

After the new owners renovated the interior with reclaimed wood and brought on accomplished executive chef David Grillo (also of Cantina 76), they hired us to nail down their top target markets, then raise awareness of the brand via a combination of social media, public relations, refreshed branding, new photography and selected advertising, including direct mail.

S.C. Governor Nikki Haley visits Midlands Gives 2016 HQ in support of the One SC Fund

The Midlands' expert on philanthropy, the Foundation makes a widespread impact across eleven Midlands counties with grant-making initiatives and donor-advised fund management services.

An obvious highlight has been managing media relations for the 24-hour online giving challenge, Midlands Gives, in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

JoAnn Turnquist of Central Carolina Community Foundation and WIS anchor Judi Gatson share the moment Midlands Gives 2015 donations passed the $1 million mark, on live TV.

Particularly exciting is facilitating all-day live broadcasts at Midlands Gives HQ, resulting in a media all-play thanks to the enthusiasm of a very generous press community.

In response to the historic flooding of October 2015, the Community Foundation started a flood relief fund which has since become the One SC Fund, championed by the Governor of S.C. and advised by a board that includes Stephen Colbert, Dawn Staley, Darius Rucker and Marcus Lattimore.

701 CCA's Columbia Open Studios Tour

Each year since 2011, our firm has developed and implemented an integrated communications campaign for this annual, signature event for 701 Center for Contemporary Art.

It's an annual, spring weekend tour of artists' working studios across Columbia and Richland and Lexington Counties, drawing thousands of visitors to dozens of visual artists' workspaces.

As of 2018, the restaurant had won all three of the "Best Restaurant" awards determined by readers of The State, Free Times and Columbia Metropolitan Magazine for three straight years, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Thanks to partnerships with Discover SC and the Columbia CVB, Chef Wes Fulmer has been featured on the Travel Channel UK, and the restaurant has been featured in Delta Sky Magazine, U.S. Airways Magazine, National Geographic Traveller, The New York Daily News, The Independent, and on the blogs of Southern Living, The Local Palate and Garden & Gun.

Crafty Feast

Debi founded this twice-yearly, independent craft fair in May of 2009; now it is an official Flock and Rally production and has grown into the Midlands region’s largest indie craft fair. The Crafty Feast jury selects just over 100 independent crafters from more than 250 applicants, and Flock and Rally coordinates all logistics, PR, marketing, social media, live music, food & drinks for the event, typically scheduled on the second Sunday in December from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Note: Crafty Feast is on hiatus for 2019.

Attendance hit 1600 at the April 2012 event, held at Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. For December 2012 and 2013, attendance at the Convention Center hit 2,500, and in December 2014 headcount grew to a record 2,800 guests. December 2015, 2016 and 2017 attendance held steady at 2,700 guests, always with stellar sales for vendors from across the Southeast.

Flock and Rally has managed integrated communications for the Famously Hot New Year celebration, S.C.'s largest NYE party, since 2014.

For the 2015 campaign, Flock and Rally was retained to run an integrated communications campaign, managing all marketing, PR, design, advertising campaign development and social media services with an incredible group of project partners. Our team earned a 2015 Mercury Award of Excellence in Integrated Campaigns for Famously Hot New Year from the SC Public Relations Society of America as well as a Star of the Show Palmetto Award from the IABC-SC.

With headliner Lauryn Hill, attendance skyrocketed to 35,000, and media coverage was secured by Flock and Rally, the Columbia CVB and Discover SC in publications such as Southern Living’s “The Daily South” blog, NYC’s Uptown Magazine, Huffington Post Travel, British Airways’ Highlife, Spa Travel Gal, Travelocity, The State, Free Times, Columbia Living Magazine and S.C. Living Magazine.

In response to Oct. 2015’s historic flooding, a sub-campaign was developed with #SCStrong branding to support flood relief.

Prior to 2015, after serving as the social media agency in 2013 and resuming the role for 2014, Flock and Rally was asked to assume full marketing and branding duties midway through the 2014 campaign. Our solution was to bring on professional partners for PR, advertising and graphic design, each at the top of their game, resulting in an outreach campaign that drew 28,000 guests. Many of these partners continue to be an integral part of the #FHNY team.

Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College

Flock and Rally worked with Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College to execute the PR, marketing and social media for its signature performing arts seasons, starting with the inaugural 2012-2013 season, and continuing through the 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons.

Working in collaboration with Executive Director Katie Fox, we developed an annual advertising, marketing, public relations and social media campaign for the new 400-seat theater and its Signature Season of national touring shows and innovative local productions.

As of Spring 2016, the college was able to bring on internal staff to handle outreach activities going forward. (We're so happy for them, and we can't wait to go to the next Internet Cat Video Festival!)
