If you live in an area that’s commonly struck by nature’s wrath, you know how much heartache disasters like an earthquake, flood, tornado,… can cause. Even if you’re fortunate enough not to have suffered any bodily harm or lost loved ones, chances are you lost everything you owned. Including photographic memories. Which is what I’ll cover in this Canon Powershot SD1200 review.

You see, even if you can’t protect your material goods from fire, water and such, there are ways to protect your memories.

With an easy to use digital camera like the Canon Powershot SD1200, you can photograph items that have emotional value for you. For example, you might have a quilt created by your great-great grandmother. Or a teddy bear that belonged to your grandfather. Or maybe even your kids very first drawing or pair of shoes. You will have lost the actual object, but at least you can still look at the photograph when you most need it.

Now obviously you don’t want to keep all your digital photographs in your house. Otherwise they will be lost with the rest of your things. It’s a good idea to keep a backup on line. With services like Flickr, Picasa or Mozy you can save several GB of photographs online for free.

Actually, even if you’re not at risk of a natural disaster, it’s still a good idea to use a camera like the Canon Powershot SD1200 to photograph important items. In case of burglary, the police might be able to return your stolen goods if you can provide photographic evidence that the items are indeed yours.

When taking these photos, you don’t want to stress of fumbling with shutter speeds, lighting and other settings. An easy to use point and click camera will finish the job in no time. Because of its automatic settings, the SD1200 IS is perfect for the job.

Want to start cataloging your memories and valuables right now? Then head on over to http://powershotcamerareviews.com for discounts, tips and an honest Canon Powershot SD1200 review.

Steel buildings are one of the most famous buildings that are chosen in some business. It can also show why Future Steel Buildings can the most wanted. This case is caused by some reasons to choose steel than wood or concrete for building. There are many people or companies that like to choose steel than other materials. One of them is of course about the cost. In manufacture, steel buildings are mostly cheaper than other. It can be more efficient especially for the beginners in business manufacture. The low cost of steel buildings can be the right choice.

Besides that, it is still about the cost of Future Steel Buildings. Steel in buildings can not need a high maintenance and also has the low insurance rates. That can make steel buildings will be cheaper in needing of cost. So, making steel building can make the owner to save their some money and also it can be more points in selling these buildings. In addition, compared with concrete or wood buildings steel building has more in safety. Buildings that are made of steel have the less chance to get the damage that are caused by earthquake, fire, flood, winds, and many others. Another reason why people should chose steel buildings is in elasticity of this materials.

Structure of buildings that made of steel is easier to develop Because of steel buildings have a strong structure than other materials; it can make them more choices of vast exterior look. For future steel buildings, they offer a large choice of metal buildings in many kinds appropriate with the needs.

Firefighters dug for survivors saturday but only found corpses under red earth and crushed lodgings in Southeastern Brazil. Crews using heavy machinery, rescue dogs, helicopters and boats took advantage of improved weather on Sunday to hunt for any survivors.

Authorities said that 66 people died in slides or flooding in Rio de Janeiro state, three in Minas Gerais state and six in the Sao Paulo state city of Cunha.

A civil defense spokeswoman said 2 bodies were recovered in the Carioca slum, where 15 people died, and 2 on the Ilha Grande island, where at least 29 died when a hillside collapsed on a vacation resort and neighboring houses.

Twenty areas in Angra dos Reis was still at risk of mudslides and he said some people were being evacuated.

Three core deluge accounts appear in Greek folklore each with its own Noahic figure: Ogyges, Deucalion, and Dardanus. Of the 3 basic Greek legends, Deucalion’s flood is by far more famous than the other two. Deucalion’s flood exceeds the time of Apollodorus. The legend is also told by the Greek poet, Pindar ( c.518 – c.438 B.C.), but his version parallels Apollodorus’ description. The Greeks believe that Deucalion’s flood is much more ancient than the Greek scholars who tell of it, because in a Greek chronological table made in 265 B.C, the Chronicler dated Deucalion’s flood in the year 1539 B.C.

Deucalion, who was king of Phthia, was warned by his father, Prometheus, of a flood that Zeus was going to send to destroy mankind. Deucalion built an ark or a chest, which he filled with provisions to sustain himself and his wife, Pyrra. After Deucalion and Pyrra entered into the ark, Zeus poured a great rain from the sky upon the earth. The rain flooded the greater part of Greece and broke the mountains of Thessaly, so that the world beyond the Isthmus and Peloponnese was overwhelmed. Everyone perished except those who sought refuge from the mountains. Deucalion and Pyrra rode the flood for 9 days and 9 nights in the safe confines of the ark. The chest then landed on Parnassus Mountain, and the rain ceased. Deucalion and Pyrra sacrificed to Zeus after disembarking from the ark.

Jupiter angered at the evil ways of humanity. He resolved to destroy it, already set the earth to burning. But he considered that might set heaven itself a fire, so he decided to flood the earth instead. He caused storm and earthquake, With Neptune’s help, to flood everything but the summit of Parnassus, where Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha came by boat and found refuge. Recognizing their piety, Jupiter let them live and withdrew the flood. Deucalion and Pyrrha, at the advice of an oracle, repopulated the world by throwing your mother’s bones behind them. Each stone became a person.

From Ovid, book 8

Jupiter and Mercury traveling incognito in Phrygia. They begged for food and shelter, but found all doors closed to them until they received hospitality from Philemon and Baucis. The gods revealed their identity, led the couple up the mountains, and showed them the whole valley flooded, destroying all homes but the couple’s, which was transformed into a marble temple. Given a wish, Philemon and Baucis asked to be priest and priestess of the temple, and to die together. In their extreme old age, they changed into an oak and lime tree.

a Sumerian legend, was the first written epic poem and one of the oldest pieces of literature in the world. It was a eulogy to Gilgamesh, King of Uruk. It was originally written on 12 clay tablets in cuneiform script.

Tablet XI of the Epic of Gilgamesh tells us about Sumerian flood myth.

Gilgamesh, the Sumerian hero, traveled the world in search of a way to cheat death. On one of his journeys, he came across an old man, Utnapishtim. He told Gilgamesh a story from centuries past. The gods brought a flood that swallowed the earth.

The gods were angry at mankind so they sent a flood to destroy him. The god Ea, warned Utnapishtim and instructed him to build an enormous boat to save himself, his family, and “the seed of all living things.” He does so, and the gods brought rain which caused the water to rise for many days.

When the rains subsided, the boat landed on a mountain. Utnapishtim set loose first a dove, then a swallow, and finally a raven, which found land. The god Ishtar, created the rainbow and placed it in the sky, as a reminder to the gods and a pledge to mankind that there would be no more floods.

This is the conversation about Gilgamesh and Utnapishtim.

Gilgameš spoke to Ut-napištim, the Faraway:
“I have been looking at you,
but your appearance is not strange – you are like me!
You yourself are not different – you are like me!
My mind was resolved to fight with you,
but instead my arm lies useless over you.
Tell me,
how is it that you stand in the Assembly of the Gods, and have found life?”

Ut-napištim spoke to Gilgameš, saying:
“I will reveal to you, Gilgameš, a thing that is hidden,
a secret of the gods I will tell you!
Šuruppak, a city that you surely know,
situated on the banks of the Euphrates,
that city was very old, and there were gods inside it.

The hearts of the Great Gods moved them to inflict the Flood.
Their Father Anu uttered the oath,
Valiant Enlil was their Adviser,
Ninurta was their Chamberlain,
Ennugi was their Minister of Canals.

Ea, the Prince, was under oath with them
so he repeated their talk to the reed house:
‘Reed house, reed house! Wall, wall!
O man of Šuruppak, son of Ubar-Tutu [i.e., Ut-napištim]
Tear down the house and build a boat!
Abandon wealth and seek living beings!
Spurn possessions and keep alive living beings!
Make [the seed of] all living beings go up into the boat.
The boat which you are to build,
its dimensions must measure equal to each other:
its length must correspond to its width.
Roof it over like the Apsu.’ [i.e., the firmament in the primordial waters]

I understood and spoke to my lord, Ea:
‘My lord, thus is the command which you have uttered
I will heed and will do it.
But what shall I answer the city, the populace, and the Elders?’

Ea spoke, commanding me, his servant:
‘You, well then, this is what you must say to them:
“It appears that Enlil is rejecting me
so I cannot reside in your city,
nor set foot on Enlil’s earth.
I will go down to the Apsu to live with my lord, Ea,
and upon you he will rain down abundance,
a profusion of fowl, myriad fishes
He will bring to you a harvest of wealth,
in the morning he will let loaves of bread shower down,
and in the evening a rain of wheat!”‘

Just as dawn began to glow
the people assembled around me.
The carpenter carried his hatchet,
the reedworker carried his flattening stone,

[two lines destroyed]

The child carried the pitch,
the weak brought whatever else was needed.
On the fifth day I had laid out her exterior.
It was a field in area,
its walls were each 10 times 12 cubits in height,
the sides of its top were of equal length, 10 times 12 cubits each.

Then I designed its interior structure as follows:
I provided it with six decks,
thus dividing it into seven levels.
The inside of it I divided into nine compartments.
I drove plugs to keep out water in its middle part.
I saw to the punting poles and laid in what was necessary.

Three times 3,600 units of raw bitumen I poured into the bitumen kiln,
three times 3,600 units of pitch [...] into it,
there were three times 3,600 porters of casks who carried vegetable oil.
Apart from the 3,600 units of oil for the dedication,
the boatsman stored away two times 3,600 units of oil.

I butchered oxen for the carpenters,
and day upon day I slaughtered sheep.
I gave the workmen beer, ale, oil, and wine,
as if it were river water,
and they made a party like the New Year’s Festival!

I set my hand to the finishing of the ship.
The boat was finished by sunset.
The launching was very difficult:
They had to keep carrying a runway of poles front to back,
until two-thirds of it had gone under water.

Whatever I had I loaded on it:
whatever silver I had I loaded on it,
whatever gold I had I loaded on it.
All the living beings that I had I loaded on it,
I had all my kith and kin go up into the boat,
all the beasts and animals of the field and the craftsmen I had go up.

[The sun god] Šamaš had set a stated time:
‘In the morning I will let loaves of bread shower down,
and in the evening a rain of wheat!
Go inside the boat, seal the entry!’

That stated time had arrived.
In the morning he let loaves of bread shower down,
and in the evening a rain of wheat.
I watched the appearance of the weather:
the weather was frightful to behold!

I went into the boat and sealed the entry.
For the caulking of the boat, to Puzur-Amurri, the boatman,
I gave the palace together with its contents.

Just as dawn began to glow
there arose from the horizon a black cloud.
[the storm god] Adad rumbled inside of it,
before him went Šhullat and Haniš [Sack and Suppression],
heralds going over mountain and land.

The god of destruction] Erragal pulled out the mooring poles,
forth went [the war god] Ninurta and made the dikes overflow.

The gods lifted up the torches,
setting the land ablaze with their flare.

Stunned shock over Adad’s deeds overtook the heavens,
and turned to blackness all that had been light.
He shattered the land like a raging bull, broke it into pieces like a pot.

All day long the South Wind blew,
blowing fast – and then the Flood came,
overwhelming the people like an attack.

No one could see his fellow,
they could not recognize each other in the torrent.

Even the gods were frightened by the Flood,
and retreated, ascending to the heaven of Anu.
The gods were cowering like dogs, crouching by the outer wall.

Ištar shrieked like a woman in childbirth,
the sweet-voiced Mistress of the Gods wailed:
‘The olden days have alas turned to clay,
because I said evil things in the Assembly of the Gods!
How could I say evil things in the Assembly of the Gods,
ordering a catastrophe to destroy my people?
No sooner have I given birth to my dear people
than they fill the sea like so many fish!’

The gods -those of the Anunnaki- were weeping with her,
the gods humbly sat weeping, sobbing with grief,
their lips burning, parched with thirst.
Six days and seven nights
came the wind and flood,
the storm flattening the land.

When the seventh day arrived,
the storm was pounding.
She who had been struggling with itself like a woman writhing in labor,
the sea, calmed; the whirlwind fell still; the flood stopped.

I looked around all day long – quiet had set in
and all the human beings had turned to clay!
The terrain was as flat as a roof.

I opened a vent and daylight fell upon my cheek.
I fell to my knees and sat weeping,
tears streaming down my cheeks.
I looked around for coastlines in the expanse of the sea,
and at twelve leagues there emerged a region of land.

On Mount Nimuš the boat lodged firm,
Mount Nimuš held the boat, allowing no sway.
One day and a second Mount Nimuš held the boat, allowing no sway.
A third day, a fourth, Mount Nimuš held the boat, allowing no sway.
A fifth day, a sixth, Mount Nimuš held the boat, allowing no sway.

When a seventh day arrived
I sent forth a dove and released it.
The dove went off, but came back to me;
no perch was visible so it circled back to me.

I sent forth a swallow and released it.
The swallow went off, but came back to me;
no perch was visible so it circled back to me.

I sent forth a raven and released it.
The raven went off, and saw the waters slither back.
It eats, it scratches, it bobs, but does not circle back to me.

I sacrificed: I offered a libation to the four corners of the world,
I burned incense in front of the rising mountain.
Seven and seven cult vessels I put in place,
and into the bowls I poured [the oil of] reeds, cedar, and myrtle.

The gods smelled the savor,
the gods smelled the sweet savor,
and collected like flies over a sacrifice.

Just then the Mistress of the Gods arrived.
She lifted up the large fly-shaped beads which Anu had made for their engagement:
‘You gods, as surely as I shall not forget this lapis lazuli around my neck,
may I be mindful of these days, and never forget them!
The gods may come to the incense offering,
but Enlil may not come to the incense offering,
because without considering he brought about the Flood
and consigned my people to annihilation.’

Just then Enlil arrived.
He saw the boat and became furious,
he was filled with rage at the Igigi gods:
‘Where did a living being escape?
No man was to survive the annihilation!’

Ninurta spoke to Valiant Enlil, saying:
‘Who else but Ea could devise such a thing?
It is Ea who knows every machination!’

Ea spoke to Valiant Enlil, saying:
‘It is yours, O Valiant One, who is the Sage of the Gods.
How, how could you bring about a Flood without consideration
Charge the violation to the violator,
charge the offense to the offender,
but be compassionate lest (mankind) be cut off,
be patient lest they be killed.

Instead of your bringing on the Flood,
would that a lion had appeared to diminish the people!
Instead of your bringing on the Flood,
would that a wolf had appeared to diminish the people!
Instead of your bringing on the Flood,
would that famine had occurred to slay the land!
Instead of your bringing on the Flood,
would that Pestilent Erra had appeared to ravage the land!

It was not I who revealed the secret of the Great Gods,
I only made a dream appear to Atrahasis, and thus he heard our secret.
Now then! The deliberation should be about him!’

Enlil went up inside the boat
and, grasping my hand, made me go up.
He had my wife go up and kneel by my side.
He touched our forehead and, standing between us, he blessed us:

‘Previously Ut-napištim was a human being.
But now let Ut-napištim and his wife become like us, the gods!
Let Ut-napištim reside far away, at the Mouth of the Rivers.’

They took us far away and settled us at the Mouth of the Rivers.

[To Gilgameš] Now then, who will convene the gods on your behalf,
that you may find the life that you are seeking!
Wait! You must not lie down for six days and seven nights.”

Soon as Gilgameš sat down (with his head) between his legs
sleep, like a fog, blew upon him.
Ut-napištim said to his wife:
“Look there! The man, the youth who wanted (eternal) life!
Sleep, like a fog, blew over him.”

A spokesman at the state flood operations control room said the number of flood victims rose to 440 people from 344 victims. He said, “The situation has led to the opening of two more relief centres in Rantau Panjang, at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Gual Tinggi and at the Rantau Panjang railway station.”

He also said the water level at the Golok River had exceeded the danger level and rising, while at other rivers, the water had risen to above the normal level, except the Sungai Kelantan at Guillemard bridge, which was above the alert level.

European researchers, led by Daniel Garcia-Castellanos from the CSIC (Research Council of Spain), have solved one of the oldest mysteries of the world by finding details of the catastrophic flood that refilled the Mediterranean Sea over 5 million years ago.

The team found that the catastrophic Zanclean flood occurred when Atlantic waters found their way into the cut-off and desiccated Mediterranean basin. They said that a 200km channel across the Gibraltar strait was carved out by the floodwaters and the resulting flood could have filled the basin within two years. Dr. Daniel Garcia-Castellanos said that they laid the foundations for this study by working on tectonic lakes. They developed a model of how the mountain lakes quickly “cease to exist” when erosion produces “outlet rivers” that drain them.

He told BBC, ”This same principle could be used to explain the Zanclean flood that reconnected the Mediterranean with the rest of the World’s oceans. We could for the first time link the amount of water crossing the channel with the amount of erosion causing it to grow over time. Using existing borehole and seismic data, his team showed how the flood would have begun with water spilling over a sill. The water would have gradually eroded a channel into the strait, eventually triggering a catastrophic flood. This extremely abrupt flood may have involved peak rates of sea level rise in the Mediterranean of more than 10m per day. Previous estimates of the duration of the flood were very variable because scientists “had to assume the size of the channel” rather than measure it.”

New Glaslow Fire Department Officials evacuate people from Twin Rivers Trailer Court, Stellarton, Scotland. Thirty people voluntarily evacuated following flooding that blocked access to the area that the waters was more than 1.5 meters. The water also trapped a woman driving down Bridge Avenue in her car for nearly 40 minutes.

Deputy Mayor Denise Taylor said. “It is very fortunate that the Stellarton Fire Department has the co-operation of the the EMOs and the New Glasgow Fire Department in this situation. You never know what Mother Nature is going to do.”

Floodwaters affect a flooded house three ways:
First,
Silt, mud, and unknown contaminants in the water not only get everything dirty, they also create a health hazard.
Second,
Dampness promotes the growth of mildew, a mold or fungus that can grow on everything in the flooded house.
Third,
The water damages materials. Wood can swell, warp, or rot if it remains wet too long, wallboard will disintegrate, electrical parts can short out, malfunction, and cause fires or shock.

The following steps work on all three of these problems. It is very important that they be followed in order.

Lower the Humidity

Everything will dry more quickly and clean more easily if you can reduce the humidity in the flooded house. There are five ways to lower the humidity and stop the rot and mildew: open up the flooded house, open closet and cabinet doors, use fans, run dehuminidifiers, and use desiccants.

Sort Contents and Discard Debris

You have three types of contents in your flooded house that should go to three different places: things you want to save, things you don’t want to save, and garbage.

Drain the Ceilings and Walls

Once contents and debris have been cleared from your flooded house, the next step is to get the water out of the ceilings and walls. How you drain and dry your ceilings and walls depends on what they are made of: wallboard, insulation, wood, or plaster.

Dry the Floor

Air needs to circulate below the floor to dry it out. If the crawl space of your house is flooded, pump it out. Remove any plastic sheets, vapor barriers or insulation from underneath the floor. Be sure to replace them when the floor and foundation of the flooded house are completely dry.

Remember, do not start rebuild and floodproof, until the flooded house is completely dry.

Tim Wass, RSCPA Inspectorate said, “Our officers are trained to levels of fire and rescue services, which means we work with other emergency services to rescue people.
The BBC has reported that hundreds of people have fled severe flooding in Cockermouth, Cumbria.

RAF helicopters, mountain rescue teams and fire crews were called to evacuate more than 200 people from Cockermouth. Nine people were reported stranded in properties in Cockermouth and Keswick, where shelters are being opened for those at risk.

Trees were floating down the main shopping street in Cockermouth. More than 1,000 homes were without electricity. John Carlin from Cockermouth said, “It is desperate. The town centers is completely flooded. The only people out there at the moment are the emergency services. “I have lived here for 15 years and have never seen anything like it.”

Several rivers have burst their banks to come in Cumbria, 19-20 November 2009. The environment agency and emergency services have been in action after more rain hit already saturated ground in Cumbria. Thousands people evacuated across Cumbria as floods hit. Police said more than 100 people sought shelter at rescue centre set up in Keswick and Cockermouth.

Reports say more than twelve inches of rain have fallen in parts of Cumbria over night (November 19). If it’s correct, would be the highest ever recorded in Cumbria. Flooding also has caused the closure of 21 schools in Cumbria.

This flood pictures site has been created to show danger of the flood, contains pictures and videos of flood that happen in United States of America, Pakistan, Philippines, Bangladesh, and other countries around the world.

Floods are one of the most common hazards in the world. Flood effects can be local, impacting a community, or very large, affecting entire river basins and multiple states. Many conditions can result in a flood: broken levees, hurricanes, rapid accumulation of rainfall, and outdated or clogged drainage system.

Be aware of flood hazards no matter where you live, especially if you live in a low-lying area, near water or downstream from a dam. Even very small streams, creeks, gullies, dry streambeds, culverts, or low-lying ground that appears harmless in dry weather can flood.

Flood victims trudged through ankle-deep sludge to crowded relief centers in the Philippines on September 2009, as the death toll rose to 246 from water that inundated the homes of nearly 2 million people.

At least one town is completely under water. Power has been cut off to parts of Manila, where hundreds of people are trapped on rooftops.

In Marikina, a suburban district of the capital, police used forklifts to remove flooded car stalled along the road.

Television pictures showed water flowing down roads like rivers, with the floods chest-deep and rising.

Tropical Storm Ketsana brought the worst flooding to the Southeast Asian country in four decades, chasing some victims to their rooftops to escape the rising water and sweeping others down raging rivers.

The storm struck Saturday in Manila, one of the world’s largest cities with about 12 million people, and dumped more than a month’s worth of rain in just 12 hours. Flooding was worst around the Pasig River that cuts through the capital, including wealthy suburbs and shanty towns.

What do you think about the flooded car pictures?

Flooded car recovery

If your flooded car was declared “flood damaged” and you know that there was not much water in it, then repair could be a good option. Repair of your flooded car may be cheaper than buying new. If you would like to restore the flooded car, here are some tips:

1. Don’t start a flooded car until a cleaning and thorough inspection is performed.

2. Contact your insurance agent and promptly report the
exposure of your car to water or flood.

3. Record the highest level of water exposure on a flooded car.
This will aid qualified technicians in evaluating and taking the
necessary steps to correct any damage.

4. Have a qualified technician inspect all mechanical components,
including the engine, axles, transmission, brake and fuel system for
water contamination.

5. Have a qualified technician flush and replace all fluids, oils and
lubricants, and replace all filters and gaskets for components exposed
to water. While a vehicle may drive with fluids that have experienced
water intrusion, extended internal exposure to water will increase the
level of damage to the engine and other vehicle components.

6. thorough cleaning
of brake parts and repacking of bearings, particularly for rear-end
drive vehicles. In front-wheel drive vehicles, bearings are sealed.

7. Some of today’s vehicles have padding and insulation that do not
easily release moisture. In this situation, it is most effective to replace
the materials to prevent the forming of mold or mildew that may contam-
inate the entire car.

8. Have a qualified technician inspect all wiring and electrical
components exposed to water. While many components are protected from
casual water exposure, extended flood exposure may have lingering
effects. In some instances, difficulty due to water exposure will not
surface earlier than 90 days, when computer and other electrical
components begin to corrode.

I hope this tips can help you to recover your flooded car.
