El 2011 fue un año muy digno, musicalmente hablando. Fue etéreo, intenso, sofisticado, arriesgado, devastador, colorido y, sobre todo, el año del make-love álbum.

Hatari, del álbum anterior BiRd BrAiNs (2009), es una explosión que quedó en un loop en mi cabeza por meses, puso en mi mapa la increíble música de Merrill Garbus, y las expectativas por el cielo por su próximo material. La música en w h o k i l l se mete por los poros, es infecciosa, majestuosa, tiene tanto que decir que es mejor colocarla en términos intangibles e impredecibles. Una producción que transmite espontaneidad, críticas culturales y sociales, percusión preciosa, y lo que me hace pensar sería música perfecta para comunicarse con animales. El resultado de la personalidad de Garbus, la información que se tranca en su voz, las texturas infinitas y los loops, lograron uno de los trabajos más refrescantes, regios, adictivos y originales del 2011.

4. M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

We were you before you even existed.

Música fácilmente cinematográfica, evocativa, melancólica, pop burbujeante, Anthony Gonzalez tiene todo eso bajo control con este álbum doble. Hurry Up, We're Dreaming tiene un efecto tranquilizador o revitalizador, según sea el caso. Están los vortex y paredes de sonido, característicos de sus álbumes anteriores. Sus vocales más presentes que nunca, y de hecho, en este se puede apreciar que está metido de cabeza en las canciones, y más que nunca en los sintetizadores. El saxofón en Midnight City es un bonus genial, y la que fácilmente es una de las mejores canciones y colaboraciones del año: Intro, con Zola Jesus, es lo más cerca que uno puede estar de tocar el sonido.

3. The Antlers - Burst Apart

Prove to me I'm not gonna die alone.

Burst Apart es sutileza, romanticismo y nostalgia pura. Canaliza un estado de consciencia que no olvida el optimismo. Peter Silberman & co. lograron un álbum delicado, y mucho más digerible que Hospice, ya que se necesita estar en la oscuridad infinita de éste, para poder apreciar Burst Apart, y es por eso que los álbumes de The Antlers son una transición perfecta. La voz de Silberman convirtió la tristeza en algo hermoso en Hospice, y lo diseñó para destruir a los oyentes. Para Burst Apart se necesitaba luz, muchos mantras e intentos fallidos. Al lograrlo, la música de estos tres chicos finalmente llegó a un punto medio entre todas las emociones, se encontraron los instrumentos sin mucho alarde, y el sonido fluyó para hacer I Don't Want Love, Rolled Together y Putting the Dog to Sleep, tres de las canciones más sólidas de esta joya.

2. St. Vincent - Strange Mercy

I make a living telling people what they want to hear.

“It’s the whole: love them, want to be like them” es lo que me repito con Annie Clark y su música, su maestría con la guitarra, y con su estilo en general. Todos los músicos son conceptos no acabados y, asumiendo que en teoría el álbum está culminado, Strange Mercy no se siente así. En todo lo impecable, sofisticado y oscuro que es, alcanzó melodías intocables, que terminaban la idea que comenzaba su mente, el sonido de la guitarra sobre su voz es la combinación más perfecta. La mejor producción y sonido de St. Vincent hasta ahora. Un árbol que crecía con cada escucha, y fue muy difícil de tumbar.

1. Shabazz Palaces - Black Up

Free to chain my will onto the wings of my instinct

And wander round this box I'm inextricably linked

Este álbum abrió un portal interdimensional y, modestamente, creó hip hop importante, relevante e inteligente. Unió capas de sonidos de tal manera que diera a entender que no es música segura, predecible, ni superficial.

Seguramente alteró patrones de ánimo como ningún otro álbum, llevó a estados mentales alterados, activó zonas del cerebro nunca utilizadas- si se prestó atención- e hizo bailar a más de uno. Si se escucha, no hay vuelta atrás.

Ishmael Butler no estableció puntos bajos en esta producción, ni redes de protección de las que usan los trapecistas, probablemente para que cuando se llegara a Swerve the Reeping of All that is Worthwhile (Noir Not Withstanding), se tenga adrenalina suficiente para escucharlo cinco veces, in a row.

Una mutación constante pasa con Black Up, una que permite atrapar patrones de notas musicales y texturas, solo para querer olvidarlas por completo y poder descubrirlas cada vez. El álbum evolucionado, más digno del año.

La música te encuentra, no tú a ella.

Las listas de música de este año han sido las más difíciles de decidir. Mi top 20 ha cambiado más de 12 veces, y probablemente publicaría una lista distinta mañana. Es virtualmente imposible seguirle la pista a todos los lanzamientos, así que ésta es una porción de los discos que escuché y amé en, el que estoy segura, ha sido el mejor año en música.

Los primeros 35 segundos de ‘Life Prowler’ dan la tónica de lo que es el ambiente perfecto que han creado estos dos chicos. Combinando sonidos y estilos de tal manera, que lo que podría parecer caótico y ruidoso, en realidad termina siendo armonioso. El mejor consejo que puedo dar para escucharlo es acostarse en la grama, observar los rayos de sol a través de las ramas de los árboles, y dejarse llevar con ‘Dusted’ y ‘Positive Amputation’, o con cualquiera de las canciones más rápidas, que con ayuda de la guitarra que persiste por horas en tu cabeza, te llenarán de paz y del lo-fi más kick-ass del año.

9. Titus Andronicus - The Monitor

La urgencia en la voz de Patrick Stickles es suficiente para mantenerte al borde de tu asiento si entiendes al menos 1% de la política del mundo. Con crudeza, gritos y todo el combo incluído. Casi se podría decir que es un Conor Oberst escandaloso. Los mantras furiosos, la batería adueñándose de varias canciones, los quotes de Abraham Lincoln y Walt Whitman, el descontento y la inconformidad del ayer y el ahora, y las letras interminables que parecieran no han dicho suficiente en cada canción. Todo esto en un álbum conceptual tan genial que requiere que lo escuches con el mayor volumen posible, y prestándole mucha atención. ‘A More Perfect Union’ es perfecta para comenzar la hermosa sinfonía dedicada a la Guerra Civil Americana, pero yo lo voy a interpretar como una gran patada a todo la política sucia que rige al planeta, y este no ha sido un año ligero en ese aspecto, en lo absoluto.
Es clara la dedicación que pusieron en éste álbum y el sentido del humor presente en 'Theme From Cheers’ y ‘A Pot In Which To Piss’.

Ya hace falta que alguien produzca un álbum tan majestuoso como éste en Latinoamérica, especialmente en este país donde se respiran tiempos fuertes por venir. “Moriremos peleando o suicidándonos” si se quiere resumir el álbum.

Algo es seguro: te pateará y te dejará pidiendo más. Sientes que fuiste a la guerra y estás vivo para contarlo.

8. The National - High Violet

Recuerdo haber leído el comentario: “Si no sientes la conexión con éste álbum, nunca te has emborrachado estando sólo” y es la descripción más apropiada de éste álbum, ever. La voz de Matt Berninger siempre me ha transmitido ese pesar, ansiedad y sentimiento tan profundo y característico de la banda que, definitivamente, no puede dejar de regalarnos álbum perfecto, tras álbum perfecto.
Alligator sigue siendo mi favorito después de tantos años, tantas arrugadas de corazón al ver un video nuevo, tantos suspiros, y tanta ansiedad al saber que sacarán algo nuevo; pero este probablemente le quita el puesto a Boxer como mi segundo favorito. Se mantuvieron a la altura de un año muy exigente a nivel musical, lleno de mantras, lleno de “Sigamos celebrando aunque el mundo se esté derrumbando”. The National sabe que lo importante no es sólo llegar, sino hacerlo de la manera correcta.

7. Warpaint - The Fool

Estas cuatro chicas de Los Angeles han tenido el hype más merecido este año. Son humo y espejos a primera vista, pero no sabes en qué te vas a meter cuando comienzas a escuchar la primera canción. Sus presentaciones en vivo es lo que terminan haciéndoles justicia cada vez.
Para mí este álbum trabaja en 3 niveles: la ejecución de los instrumentos, las letras, y la atmósfera. Por separado son geniales, los unes y obtienes la revelación del año para mí.

El sonido impecable de los instrumentos reafirman la fe en lo que sea que creas, los basslines de Jenny Lee Lindberg enamorando mis oídos en especial, los arreglos de 'Composure', 'Shadows' y 'Undertow' resaltan entre el resto, incluso con lo extraño que pueda parecer la mezcla del álbum.

Las letras son etéreas, y lo que las hace flotar es sin duda la voz hipnotizante de Emily Kokal, y la arrulladora de Theresa Wayman, que al comenzar a solaparse se convierten en una misma.

El efecto que logran lo voy a comparar con la sensación de estar cayendo al vacío, en cámara lenta, y aterrizar en un montón de hojas de otoño.
The Fool es oscuro, extraño y adorable, y te persigue hasta el punto de soñar con las canciones. Lindberg mencionó que el orden de las canciones fue decidido para que pueda ser escuchado mientras estés ‘pegado’, y que se disfruta mejor en ese estado. Irónicamente este álbum se convirtió en mi droga de este año, y no fueron necesarias sustancias para volar.

6. Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz

Todos estos años que he escuchado la música de Sufjan Stevens he sentido una certeza: ser músico es una de las mejores profesiones del mundo. Pero ser un músico de verdad, transmitir un mensaje honesto, contenido que valga la pena. Sufjan siempre ha logrado eso, incluso hasta de una manera noble, sin dejar de divertirse y ser él mismo en el proceso, dando su percepción del mundo y del arte; algo que aprecio todos los días en músicos. En The Age of Adz no compromete su amor a lo excéntrico, y aunque tal vez baja el tono con lo épico de sus álbumes anteriores, continúa haciendo bellezas como 'Too Much', 'I Walked', 'Now that I’m Older', y la que bien podrían ser 5 canciones, la épica 'Impossible Soul'.

Si bien en este álbum experimentó con el auto-tune y varios compararon tal hecho con el apocalipsis, reinventa sin alejarse de su sonido. Sí, tiene más beats, pero no significa que son bailables; continúa componiendo desde ese heartache, y sigue impregnando ese sentimiento de niño incomprendido que es tan adorable.

Sufjan Stevens es un acertijo que espero nunca descifrar.

5. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

La gente de Arcade Fire logró en un lapso menor a 2 años lo que muchos músicos sueñan con lograr en toda su carrera: hacer al menos un álbum que llegue a los corazones de la gente y que sea clásico, trascendental, y ¿Por qué no? que David Bowie quiera cantar sus canciones. No sólo lograron eso con Funeral en el 2004, sino que tienen este y Neon Bible para respaldarlo; lo que los hace merecedores de la adoración de muchos, y en consecuencia odiados por otros, y el más inmenso respeto de mi parte. El mensaje que puede parecer redundante en The Suburbs, y que básicamente es el que me han transmitido desde el comienzo, es el de ellos/nosotros/tú/yo vs. el mundo, el sentimiento que nos hace querer ser niños de nuevo, de repente. De igual manera las letras nunca se han quedado cortas en dar esperanza, alegría y en reafirmar lo lindo que estar vivos. Con este álbum establecen una crítica más social, más específica que en Funeral, que era una visión más amplia de la vida, y en Neon Bible que era una crítica más política. 'Modern Man' y 'Rococo' son prueba de la crítica social que menciono, y no pueden faltar los típicos himnos característicos de estos canadienses, como 'We Used to Wait' y 'Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)'. Fundamentalmente Arcade Fire ponen otro granito de arena en la música de esta generación, probando una vez más su habilidad para hacernos sentir que no estamos solos, que la lucha es constante y que los corazones se llenan de felicidad una canción a la vez. Yo siempre se los dejo a ellos, saben lo que están haciendo.

4. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Quisiera hacer esta reseña sin entrar en materia de Kanye, separar el artista del producto, no entrar en detalles de su ego o su psyche, pero no puedo. Su grado de autoconciencia es tan elevado en este álbum, que sería extraño no discutirlo. No hay que negar que tiene un gusto impecable, y sabe cómo mezclar eso con música accesible, bien definida y excelentemente producida. Todos los meltdowns y episodios de locura públicos han traído a Kanye a este producto, a esta epifanía, a escupir todas las cosas que le pasan por la cabeza, sin censura, a sus arranques de megalomanía, presentes en 'Power', a su sarcasmo en 'Monster', a su necesidad de escapar en 'Lost In The World', y a eventualmente contradecirse, y a justificarse una y otra vez diciendo que trata de buscar un balance entre las luces, las cámaras y la creatividad que siempre lo han definido. 'All of the Lights' es una de mis favoritas porque refleja parte de lo que se trata el fenómeno Kanye.
Aparentemente mi relación de amor/odio con Kanye West encontró su balance con este disco. Sin embargo, he aprendido a apreciar el genio que se esconde tras las palabras vacías que dice el 80% del tiempo desde The College Dropout. Tal vez debería ocuparse de cantar y crear y dejar de llamar tanto la atención, cuando eres tan bueno, no necesitas hacer mucho alboroto, la gente lo nota.
Recuerdo haber estado hablando de este álbum con alguien más y tratando de explicar el porqué causa tanta sensación, y haber dicho: “Sabe producir música popular, no es trascendental ni mucho menos”, incluso gustándome sus álbumes anteriores, y creo que no pude estar más equivocada. Hoy más que nunca, en estos tiempos tan llenos de superficialidad y de hype/buzz, en el que creemos que con 3 clicks ya tenemos al indie agarrado por las nuts, que al seguir 5 buzzbands ya somos parte de algo mayor y mejor, y que la búsqueda continuará siendo incesante para aquellos que sentimos pasión por esto, no hay alguien mejor que Kanye, para decirte que no hay que buscar mucho, porque este álbum es tan grande, que es indie.

Como bonus, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy tiene colaboraciones insólitas (en serio, son una locura), 10 hits indiscutibles, y son 13 canciones en total. Creo que he dicho suficiente.

3. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

James Murphy probando toda su ironía, su buen sentido del humor, su cansancio con las disqueras y toda la falsedad de la industria musical hoy en día, en otro genial LP. Los beats que se interlazan con el punk rock que siempre ha estado en su corazón, la sensación de bailar vs. headbanging - pero sólo un poquito. El punto todo este tiempo con esta banda es que yo tengo la convicción de que detrás de todas estas canciones súper movidas, incluso detrás de las más vacías que puedan parecer en este álbum, como 'Drunk Girls' hay algo más, las inseguridades de Murphy, el punto al que él quiere llegar con todo este rollo, el molestarse en crear música, que para él no es sólo cualquier cosa, en verdad quiere lograr los mejores canciones posibles, y la mejor manera que sabe hacerlo es ésta. Aunque parezca algo más relajado líricamente comparándolo con Sound of Silver, no lo es, en lo absoluto. Aún se percibe la necesidad de llegar al final de todo con This is Happening, el lado sentimental que hacen a esta banda tan grandiosa, y prueba de ello es 'I Can Change' y 'All I Want'. Así que no hay que abrumarse si se descubre que esta es la banda que hace las canciones bailables más impecables en la vida, y un manual de cómo hacer música pop/dance-punk perfecta, curiosamente están llenos de corazón y palabras que te harán identificarte con el comentario más mundano que sale de la boca de Murphy, o de los sonidos de los sintetizadores y guitarras tan simples. Me alegra que haya salido temprano en el año, no podían privar a la humanidad tanto tiempo de lo que estaba pasando en sus cabezas. Y al final, sencillamente James Murphy es cool.

2. Beach House - Teen Dream

La atmósfera que logran capturar Alex Scally y Victoria Legrand es fuera de este mundo. Es, en consecuencia, la que entra en mi categoría de música para aliens. Son melodías que fluyen de manera natural, un regalo que, más importante que cualquier otra cosa, te conmueve. Podría asegurar que cada canción tiene un climax, y es lo que las hace crecer cada vez. Si escuchas el álbum una vez es melancólico, si lo escuchas varias veces es una gloriosa depresión, si lo escuchas compulsivamente es una belleza, con un aura de intimidad que sólo podría lograr este dúo de dream-pop. Todo funciona como debe, especialmente en 'Norway', '10 Mile Stereo', 'Walk In the Park' y 'Used To Be'. La voz de Legrand es un sueño, y se aprecia aún más en este álbum, que sin duda es el mejor hasta la fecha.
El poder de transportarte a otro tiempo y lugar es la cualidad más bella que tiene Teen Dream, como hace flotar cada canción y hacerte sentir que el universo está trabajando para ti, que todo está bien, y siempre lo ha estado.

1. Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest

Bradford Cox es tan talentoso que ha cambiado el modus operandi en los últimos 3 álbumes de Deerhunter, y ha logrado entregar siempre uno de los mejores discos del año. Siendo Halcyon Digest el más inmediato y accesible de todos. Cada canción es tan perfecta, lírica y musicalmente hablando, que cada vez que escogía mi canción favorita sentía que traicionaba a las otras. La melancolía que hay en Halcyon es sólo parte de lo genial que es, porque lo hace con una sutileza que sólo puede ser alcanzada a través de la música trascendental que hay aquí. Aún así no escapa de esos riffs de guitarras que caracterizan a Deerhunter, y que pueden revivir cualquier canción que parezca que no está a la altura de las demás.

Las 11 canciones forman una ola, en el sentido que la intensidad que le baja a tu ánimo 'Sailing' te lo proporcionan 'Memory Boy' y 'Desire Lines', lo atmosférico de 'Basement Scene', se nivela con lo excepcional que es 'Helicopter', y así sucesivamente hasta legar a la inmensa 'He Would Have Laughed', un tributo a Jay Reatard, y una de las mejores canciones del año. La profundidad y tristeza que yo pueda describir aquí sobre esta canción simplemente nunca le harán justicia.

Bradford Cox me sigue convenciendo del poder que tiene para hipnotizar, y hacerte sentir nadando en estática - más limpia esta vez – y en la ansiedad que es mi compañera, cada vez que escucho música tan bella como esta. Bien hecho.

The 50 Best Of 2009

Voy a poner esto simple: el 2009 fue un año genial en música, el 2010 se ve prometedor. Mi top 10 anterior de lo mejor de la primera mitad del año es interesante, considerando que quedó muy parecida comparadada con esta. Después de eso descubrí unos discos geniales y comencé a apreciar otros también.

I'll try to keep it simple: 2009 was a great year in music, 2010 looks promising. My prior top 10 list for the first half of 2009 it's kinda interesting, considering most of the list stays the same. After that, I made great discoveries and started to appreciate other records as well.

Ésta es mi lista de los 40 mejores álbumes de la década, los diez primeros puestos son de los que considero impecables de principio a fin y de los que deberían vender un ten pack, para hacer felices a las personas que aún no los han escuchado. Tal vez no hay mucha variedad, pero no puedo evitar ser subjetiva, así es como es esto de las listas.

This is my list for the best 40 albums of the decade, the ten first places are the ones I consider flawless from start to finish and should be sold in a ten pack kind of thing, to make people who haven't listened to them, happy. Maybe there's not a lot of variety, but I can't help being subjective, this is how things go with lists.

Aquí está la lista de los mejores álbumes de este año hasta ahora, sin contar 'Time to Die' de The Dodos, que oficialmente sale en Septiembre y por supuesto encabezará mi lista a finales de año.

Alright, here's the list of the best albums of this year so far, without counting The Dodos' 'Time to Die', which official release will be in September and it will be at the top of my list at the end of the year, for sure.

10. Various Artists - Dark Was the Night

Esta compilación no podría ser más perfecta: The National, Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, entre otros. Es la unión de la creme y por una excelente causa. Ojalá este tipo de colaboraciones se dieran más seguido sin tener que esperar que algo malo pase para recoger fondos. Los artistas simplemente deberían unirse para compartir la sabiduría musical. Me encantan ‘So Far Around The Bend’ de The National, la colaboración de Gibbard y Feist 'Train Song' y la perfecta adaptación de ‘You Are The Blood’ por Sufjan Stevens.

This compilation couldn’t be more perfect: The National, Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, among other awesome artists. It’s just the best of the best, and because of an excellent cause as well. I wish this kind of collaborations would come along more often, without having to wait for a bad thing to happen to raise funds. I mean artists should come together to share the musical wisdom. I love ‘So Far Aound the Bend’ by The National, the Gibbard/Feist collaboration : 'Train Song' and the perfect cover ‘You Are the Blood’ by Sufjan Stevens.

9. Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle

La primera vez que escuché este álbum estaba cayendo EL palo de agua, la ciudad estaba helada, vi el sol como a las cuatro de la tarde, y tenía que salir a hacer 1000 cosas. Éste álbum es tan bueno que hizo mi día excelente a pesar de todo. La voz de Bill Callahan es relajante e hipnotizante, ‘Faith/Void’ es prueba de lo brillante que es su música. Mis otras favoritas: ‘Too Many Birds’ y ‘My Friend’. Definitivamente este lo seguiré escuchando mucho este año.

The first time I heard this album it was raining so bad, I was so unbelievable cold, I saw the sun like at four in the afternoon that day, and I had a pretty hectic day ahead. This album is so good it made my day excellent in spite of all. Bill Callahan’s voice is relaxing and mesmerizing; ‘Faith/Void’ is proof of how brilliant his music is. Other favorites: ‘Too Many Birds’ and ‘My Friend’. I will definitely be listening to this one a lot this year.

8. Peter Bjorn and John - Living Thing

Lo hicieron una vez más, hacer canciones que no te puedes sacar de la cabeza por semanas, ésta vez sin necesidad de silbar a cada rato. Todas las canciones son únicas y hacen que un día aburrido y lento pase súper rápido, que es lo que cuenta cuando estás terminando clases. Son himnos de diversión, por así decirlo. Favoritas: ‘Nothing to Worry About’, ‘Living Thing’, ‘Lay it Down’, ‘Blue Period Picasso’.

They did it once again; make songs that you can’t get out of your head for weeks, this time without having to whistle every single time. All the songs are unique and they make a boring and slow day go really fast, and that’s what counts when you’re finishing class. They’re hymns of fun if you will. Favorites: ‘Nothing to Worry About’, ‘Living Thing’, ‘Lay it Down’, ‘Blue Period Picasso’.

7. Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca

¿Qué sale de sonidos excéntricos, voces desordenadas, riffs pegajosos y de una portada muy fina? La respuesta es el último álbum de Dirty Projectors que me engancharon desde la primera vez que los escuché. Mis favoritas: ‘Stillness is the Move’, ‘Temecula’, ‘Useful Chamber’, ‘Two Doves’.

What comes out of excentric sounds, all-over-the-place voices, catchy riffs, and a really cool album cover? The answer is the last Dirty Projectors' album, that had me hooked since the first time I heard them. My favorites: ‘Stillness is the Move’, ‘Temecula’, ‘Useful Chamber’, ‘Two Doves’.

6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz

El muy esperado álbum tiene sintetizadores para hacer bailar a cualquiera con ‘Zero’, la ‘Maps’ de este album y la canción que sin duda será una las mejores del año: ‘Hysteric’, Karen O siendo lo máximo como siempre y una producción divertida y un tanto diferente de los anteriores.

The much anticipated album has synts that make you dance with ‘Zero’, the ‘Maps’ of this album and the song that without a doubt will be one of the best of the year: ‘Hysteric’, Karen O being awesome as always and a fun, tight production, and why not? a little different from their previous work.

5. Dan Deacon – Bromst

Dan Deacon ha demostrado la habilidad que tiene para hacer canciones que te hacen sentir como si estuvieses viajando a través de un agujero de gusano a 10.000 millas por hora. Éste álbum es mi ‘Mirrored’ del año multiplicado por 10, ‘Snookered’ es adictiva y perfecta, ‘Woof Woof’ me encanta, especialmente el intro, ‘Build Voice’ arma todo lo que serán los próximos 64 minutos llenos de energía y beats locos y pegajosos.

Dan Deacon has proven the ability to make songs that make you feel like you’re traveling through a worm hole 10.000 miles per hour, this album is my ‘Mirrored’ of the year multiplied by 10, ‘Snookered’ is addictive and perfect, I love ‘Woof Woof’ so much, specially the intro, ‘Build Voice’ sets the whole tone for the next 64 minutes full of energy and crazy, catchy beats.

4. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Uno de los álbumes más ‘refrescantes’ del año, y uso esta palabra porque cada vez que escucho este álbum siento como si lo estoy escuchando por primera vez, ninguna canción se vuelve repetitiva, aburrida o mala, ese efecto que tienen todas y cada una de las canciones hacen que pueda escucharlo 4 veces seguidas sin aburrirme, y ese mismo efecto es el que hace que lo adore tanto. Sin duda alguna mi favorita es ‘Love Like a Sunset’, la cual hace imaginarme un video musical diferente cada vez, seguida de ‘1901’, ‘Lisztomania’, ‘Girlfriend’, ‘Countdown (Sick For The Big Sun)’.

One of the most ‘refreshing’ albums of the year so far, and I use this word because every time I listen to this album I feel like I’m listening it for the first time, none of the songs gets repetitive, boring or bad, this effect that every single song has is what makes me love it so much. Without a doubt my favorite is ‘Love Like a Sunset’, which makes me imagine a different video every time, followed by ‘1901’, ‘Lisztomania’, ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Countdown (Sick For The Big Sun)’.

3. Passion Pit – Manners

Cuando hay un álbum que me muero por escuchar, siento un vacío en el estómago, la ansiedad que tuve cuando supe que saldría Manners este año. Passion Pit es la banda más espectacular de pop-electrónica de este año para mí, y por cuestiones de tiempo no había hecho una reseña decente de este álbum. Su EP ‘Chunk of Change’ me hizo enamorarme de la banda, ‘Sleepyhead’ fue probablemente una de las mejores canciones del año pasado. En este álbum hay de todo un poco y el falsetto es lo máximo una vez más. La canción que adoro con pasión es ‘Moth’s Wings’, tiene esa cualidad de hacerte creer que todo está bien porque simplemente escribieron esa canción, ‘Little Secrets’ es como el himno del álbum, ‘The Reeling’ es el beat más pegajoso de todos y el video es genial, ‘Let Your Love Grow Tall’ es simplemente linda hasta más no poder, y pues la nueva versión de ‘Sleepyhead’ no le quita perfección. Incluso los remixes que han sacado son buenísimos. Una vez más me convencen de seguir escuchando todo lo que produzcan, porque a pesar de sentirse como un álbum sobre-producido, siento que tal vez era exactamente lo que necesitaba para ser tan genial.

When there’s an album that I’m dying to listen to, I tend to feel a void in my stomach, the anxiety that I had when I knew that Manners would come out this year. Passion Pit is the most spectacular pop electronic band of this year for me, and because of a matter of time, I didn’t have the chance to post a decent review of this album. ‘Chunk of Change’, their EP last year made me fall in love with the band. Sleepyhead was probably one of the best songs of the year. In this album there’s a little bit of everything and the falsetto rocks once again. The song I passionately love is ‘Moth’s Wings’, it has that quality of making you believe everything is perfect because they just wrote that song, ‘Little Secrets’ is like the hymn of the album, ‘The Reeling’ is a catchy beat and the video is so great, ‘Let Your Love Grow Tall’ is just too nice, and well the new version of ‘Sleepyhead’ doesn’t take out perfection out of it. Even the remixes some have released are awesome. Once again they convinced me of keep listening to anything they produce, because even when it feels like an over-produced album, I feel that maybe it was exactly what it needed to be so great.

2. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

¿Cómo puedo empezar a describir Veckatimest? Es el álbum que sólo ellos pudieron hacer. Es tan impecable como lo es la guitarra, el bajo, el teclado, la batería y las voces en cada canción de esta pieza increíble de indie rock. A diferencia de los álbumes más esperados, simplemente este lo fui disfrutando poco a poco, no fue de una vez que reconocí lo brillante que es, y cuando lo entendí, comencé a dudar si merecía el primer lugar en esta lista. Como no tenía expectativas concretas de lo que sería, pude ser objetiva. Mis favoritas: ‘Two Weeks’, la canción que muchas bandas tratan de lograr pero fallan miserablemente, el tempo es muy hipnotizante, la armonía de las voces es transparente, el video es escalofriantemente brillante y gracioso, los instrumentos se escuchan como si flotaran,’ Fine for Now’ hizo que la etiquetara como ‘story of my life’, es bella, le sigue ‘While You Wait for the Others’ que simplemente está al mismo nivel de Two Weeks, sino más y ‘Foreground’ que cierra perfectamente todo. A pesar de lo hermosa que es la producción tiene algo que aun no sé que es, que no termina de crear la idea, es como si algo quedara en el aire, y creo que eso fue lo que hizo que no tuviera el primer lugar, en fin, es algo genial y diferente de todo lo que había escuchado últimamente.

How can I begin to describe Veckatimest? It’s the album only Grizzly Bear could have created; it’s so impeccable as the guitar, the bass, the keyboards, the drums and the vocals in each song in this incredible piece of indie rock. Contrary from the most anticipated and awaited albums this year, this one grew on me, it wasn’t at first listen that I knew how incredible good it was and when I realized it, I started doubting if it deserved the first place in this list. I didn’t have any expectations with this one so I guess I was objective about it. My favorites: ‘Two Weeks’, the song that so many bands try to achieve but fail miserably, the tempo is mesmerizing, the harmony of the voices is transparent, the video is creepy, brilliant and funny, the instruments sound like if they were floating,’ Fine for Now’ made me tag it as ‘story of my life’, so beautiful, then it’s ‘While You Wait for the Others’ which is in the same level as Two Weeks, if not more, and ‘Foreground’ that closes everything perfectly. Even so it’s such a beautiful production, it has something that doesn’t quite sums up the idea. It’s like something was left of, and I think that’s why it didn’t make it to the first place in the list, anyway it’s definitely something different from everything I’ve heard before.

1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

Ya había hecho una reseña de éste álbum, sigue estando de primero en mi lista, porque su infinita excentricidad me hace adorarlo a cada rato. Los videos hacen que las canciones se multipliquen por 100. Animal Collective sigue dominando la escena indie y me da mucha risa que los odien apasionadamente sólo por el hype. Se llama evolución musical, no hay que tomárselo en serio. ¿O sí?

I already have done a review about this one, it’s still in first place for me, its infinite wackiness makes me love it every time and the videos make the songs even better. Animal Collective is still in charge of the indie scene and it’s funny how people passionately hate them just because of the hype. It’s called musical evolution, it’s not meant to be taken seriously, now is it?

Hay sólo algunas películas que pueden abrirte los ojos, la mayoría te entretienen, te hacen sonreír, reír, llorar, emocionarte o asustarte, 'Into the Wild' me hizo sentir todo lo anterior.

Sean Penn plasmó en papel y en la pantalla una de las películas más bellas e inspiradoras que he visto, basado en el libro con el mismo nombre (basada en una historia real), de Jon Krakauer. ‘Into the Wild’ cuenta las aventuras de Christopher McCandless, que renunciando a todos sus bienes materiales, más que algunas provisiones y su mochila, decide emprender un viaje alrededor del país hasta llegar a su meta final: Alaska, en donde experimenta la naturaleza en su forma más bella.

Actúan Emile Hirsch, Jena Malone, Marcia Gay Harden, Vince Vaughn, Kristen Stewart, William Hurt, Hal Holbrook y Catherine Keener, un elenco extraordinario.

Durante toda la película logras experimentar las mismas emociones, la ansiedad, las ganas de escapar y el deseo de aventura que Chris sintió durante su vida. La determinación que lo condujo hasta su destino final y su espíritu incansable por la aventura son admirables. Sean Penn produjo una obra de arte para mí, porque lo hizo de la forma más sencilla y básica. Y es que de eso se trata la historia, de lo más básico que buscamos todos los seres humanos: la libertad , la felicidad. y la verdad. La libertad en TODO su sentido, la mayoría de nosotros nos sentimos atrapados en el día a día, en la rutina, en lo que sea que se suponga que hagamos o vayamos a hacer eventualmente, en las expectativas que tienen los demás sobre nosotros; y debería ser algo que nada ni nadie te puedan quitar, nunca. Pero sobre todo la búsqueda de la verdad, el propósito de cada uno en la Tierra, y qué es lo que en verdad importa en la vida. Por ésta y otras razones ésta película me conmovió.

Los exteriores son espectaculares, en verdad complementan muy bien la narración y la historia. El soundtrack es hermoso, las canciones, todas originales de Eddie Vedder. La edición te permite perderte en la historia y te mantiene a la expectativa, la dirección se siente tan personal que te permite ser simpatético con cada aspecto y decisión de la película, y los personajes que entran y salen de su vida llenan los espacios vacíos que pensabas quedarían, y cada uno de ellos es increíble.

La película tiene las frases más verdaderas y bellas que he escuchado antes, y reafirman lo honesto que es esta aventura tanto para él, como para los que la ven.
Sean Penn demuestra la madera que tiene como escritor y director, en esta obra de arte que me hizo sonreír en un momento en el que siento que todo pasa a mi alrededor y no estoy consciente de ello, y me da esperanza de que hay algo más allá esperando que tenga las agallas para alcanzarlo.

There are only a few movies that can open your eyes, most of them entertain you, make you smile, laugh, cry, excite you o scare you, ‘Into the Wild’ made me feel all of the above.

Sean Penn put on paper and on screen, one of the most beautiful and inspiring movies I’ve seen, based on the book with the same name(based on a true story) , by Jon Krakauer. ‘Into the Wild’ tells the story of the adventures of Christopher McCandless, who gets rid of all of his material possessions, except for some provisions and his backpack, and decides to make this journey all across the country, before getting to his ultimate goal: Alaska, where he experiments nature in the most beautiful way.

Starts Emile Hirsch, Jena Malone, Marcia Gay Harden, Vince Vaughn, Kristen Stewart, William Hurt, Hal Holbrook y Catherine Keener; an awesome cast.

During the whole movie you can experiment the same emotions, the angst, the need to escape and the thirst for adventure that Chris felt during his life. The determination that drove him to his final destination, and his undying spirit for adventure are admirable. Sean Penn produced a masterpiece for me, because he did it in the most simple and basic form. And that’s what the story is really about, about the basic thing we all human beings are looking for: freedom, happiness and truth. Freedom in ALL of its meaning, most of us feel trapped nowadays, in daily routine, in whatever is suppose that we do or that we’re meant to do eventually, and in the expectations of other people about us; and it should be something that nothing, or no one can take away from us, ever. Specially the truth, about our purpose in this world, about what's important in this life. Because of these and other reasons this movie touched me.

The landscape is mind blowing; they really complemented perfectly the storytelling. The soundtrack is beautiful as well, the songs original by Eddie Vedder. The editing makes you get lost in the story and keep you on the edge, the directing feels so personal that allows you to be sympathetic of each aspect and decision made about the movie, the characters that come and go into his life fill the empty spaces one thought would be there, and every each of them are truly amazing.

The movie has the most beautiful and sincere quotes that I’ve heard before, and reassure the honesty of this journey for him, and for the viewer.

Sean Penn shows that he has what it takes to be a wonderful screenwriter and director, in this masterpiece, that made me smile in a time when I feel unaware of everything that happens around me, and gives me hope of something else out there just waiting for me to have the guts to reach it out.

Merriweather Post Pavilion

I'm having the weirdest year so far, full of confusion, fear, frustration and other stuff going through my mind that I can't be bother with right now, at least, so I'm just talking music.

The best album of 2009: Animal Collective's 'Merriweather Post Pavilion' will be my ranting post here folks, prepare to feel amused by the band's latest LP.

It was clear for me the first time I listened to MPP, back in December, when 2009 hadn't even started yet, that I had found the best album of the year.

It's the most fun, addicting, mesmerizing, and experimental of their albums yet. It makes me feel angst, and for some reason my favorite albums make me feel angst, maybe that's the way my gut tells me this is so good that surpasses my expectations? I don't know.
The whole album is amazing but the highlights for me would have to be:

The feeling I had the first time I listened to 'My Girls', just as he starts singing "Isn't much that I feel I need, a solid soul and the blood I bleed" I smiled, I felt this is it, this is gonna be a great album. The honesty, the energy bottling up, the synergy of the voices, everything, with the bottom line: there's no bullshit that can't disturb the priorities in life, as long as I'm able to live the way I want, with the people I love.
Then we get to 'Also Frightened', when it actually makes me feel I'm not alone, that there's a bond that makes us all the same in some sort of way. The lingering of the voices makes it even better.
'Summertime Clothes' starts and I feel like I'm in a 70's movie with a bunch of kids, I feel like I’m time traveling to my childhood and I actually start missing home if I'm not there, while listening to this fun song, thinking, this is what joy feels like once in a while.
Now there’s 'Bluish', that just melts me, it's a beautiful song indeed. Then ‘Guys Eyes’ and ‘Lion in a Coma’ entertaining me long enough to get to 'Brothersport' when I just reassure myself what I thought listening to the first tracks, “this album rocks my socks off”. This song builds itself in the most awesome way until you forget what you were singing in the first place, because it's so much fun.

They never seize to amaze me, their infinite spirit and determination to create something out of the ordinary is extraordinary. So I think, this is the beginning of a great music year for me, 'cause I'm recently putting my hope that my peace of mind, in great part, will be restored with music, and so far I've listened to amazing new and old music that makes me think this is possible.

Ultimately, this weird year I'm having will get better if I want it to, just thank God there's this amount of good music floating around. Will we ever get rid the world of bad music? No, there's always lame taste in everything, that's just the way it is, I'm tired of fighting everything I can't control.This whole situation makes the power of this production even more meaningful to me, aside from the fact, of course, that Animal Collective's one of the best bands out there right now. Will another album beat MPP? We'll see, it feels like a long shot but everything's possible, if so, I will only be happy of this year music goodness.

Some Movies Reviews and why The Wrestler will kick your ass!

Tuve un fin de semana largo e increíble, fuera de casa, y ahora es cuando tengo tiempo de sentarme frente a la computadora y compartir un poco acerca de las películas que tuve la oportunidad de ver recientemente: Revolutionary Road, Changeling, Slumdog Millionaire, the Curious Case of Benjamin Button y The Wrestler, y por qué ésta última está ahora en mi top 3 de películas favoritas del año.

I had an amazing and long weekend, away from home, so now it's when I actually have the time to sit in front of the computer, and share a little bit about a few movies I had the chance to watch recently: Revolutionary Road, Changeling, Slumdog Millionaire, the Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Wrestler, and why this last one is now in my top 3 favorite movies of the year.

Revolutionary Road (8/10)

Revolutionary Road fue, en una sola palabra: intensa. Las actuaciones fueron increíbles, bella e impecablemente filmada, cruda y precisa. Te deja un tanto deprimido el saber que hay muchos matrimonios que están pasando por la misma situación. Las actuaciones son tan buenas que termina una escena y no te da tiempo de procesarla, hasta que viene la próxima y es aún más fuerte que la anterior.

Revolutionary Road was, in one word: intense. The performances were amazing, beautifully and flawlessly filmed, raw and dead on. It leaves you somewhat depressed knowing that there are a lot of marriages that are going through the same situation. The performances are so good that a scene ends and doesn't give you enough time to process it, until the next one comes and it's even more shocking that the one before.

Slumdog Millionaire (8.5/10)

Slumdog Millionaire tenía muchas ganas de verla porque todos me decían que era muy buena, lo cual es cierto, en cierto modo, pero aún así no llenó mis expectativas. La historia es realmente inspiradora, admirable y a pesar de lo densa que se puede poner en algunos puntos de la trama, es verdaderamente divertida de ver, la disfruté mucho. El concepto lo desarrollaron de una manera original e hicieron que uno sintiera empatía por el personaje. La cinematografía y el soundtrack en especial, me encantaron, y la dirección espléndida de Danny Boyle. La sensación de esperanza que deja al final es lo mejor de todo, no importa cuántos obstáculos consigas en el camino, hay algo bueno al final de éste, y no todo en la vida es el dinero.

Slumdog Millionaire I was actually looking forward to see, since everyone kept telling me how good it was, which is true to some extent, yet somehow didn't fulfill my expectations. The story is very inspiring, admirable, and in spite of how dense it can get at some points, it's really fun to watch, I really enjoyed it. The concept was developed in a very original way and made me feel empathy for the characters in this story.The cinematography and the soundtrack especially, I loved, and the magnificent direction from Danny Boyle. The feeling of hope that leaves you with at the end, is the best of all: no matter how many obstacles one may find in their way, there's something good at the end of it, and money is not all in life.

Changeling (7.6/10)

Changeling es una película que tiene escrito Clint Eastwood por todos lados, ¿Por qué no puede hacer una película con un final feliz o que por lo menos no sea tan increíblemente triste? ¡Dios! es el experto en hacer este tipo de películas definitivamente. Al igual que Mystic River y Million Dollar Baby, Changeling tiene unas escenas que te dejan sin aliento literalmente de lo tristes y dramáticas que son, y del dolor y desesperación de los personajes. Angelina Jolie hizo un magnífico trabajo como la madre de un niño desaparecido, supongo que por el hecho de que tiene como 78 hijos ayudó bastante a exteriorizar esa parte maternal. La película se va armando de una manera interesante hasta que piensas, "bueno tal vez puede pasar algo bueno" y simplemente viene más dolor y cosas malas para ella. El hecho de que esté basada en un hecho real, hace pensar en lo corrupto que están y probablemente estarán siempre los seres humanos y el mundo en general, y en la vida de algunas personas desafortunadas que simplemente no merecen las cosas malas que les pasan; pero sobretodo, en el amor incondicional de una madre.

Changeling is a movie that has Clint Eastwood written all over it, ¿Why can't he make a movie with a happy ending or at least one that's not so freaking sad? God! He's definitely the man when it comes to sad movies. Like Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby, Changeling has scenes that leave you literally breathless of how sad and dramatic they are, from the pain and desperation of the characters. Angelina Jolie did a magnificent job as the mother of a missing child; I guess that the fact that she has like, 78 kids, helped her to exteriorize that motherly instinct so well. The movie builds itself in a very interesting way, until you get to the point when you think "ok so maybe something good happens now" and just more pain and bad stuff happens to her. The fact that it's based on a true story, makes you think in how corrupt human beings are and probably always will be and the world in general, in the life of those unfortunate people that don't deserve such horrible things happen to them; but overall, in the unconditional love of a mother.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (8.6/10)

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button fue probablemente la más interesante y divertida historia de seguir, y, hasta ahora, después de The Wrestler, mi favorita de las pocas que he visto. El aire que me dió de Forrest Gump durante toda la historia tuvo una muy clara explicación al final, es del mismo escritor. El mensaje de la historia de vivir la vida al máximo tuvo un segundo lugar para mí, dado lo increíblemente sensible que me puedo poner a veces jaja, el más directo para mí fue el de lo trascendental que es el amor y en las barreras que pueden superar dos personas cuando se aman de verdad. La narración lo transmite de una manera original y preciosa. Durante los últimos 15 minutos de la película sentí esa sensación se asombro y alivio que uno siente cuando ve que la historia terminará como debe ser. Brad Pitt fue precioso en todas las edades que representó, y no me refiero físicamente, sino todo el carisma y presencia que puso en Benjamin Button. Las relaciones entre los personajes y las decisiones que toman para ejercer efecto en la vida de unos con otros es lo que hace la historia universal para todo quien la vea, a pesar de ser una historia de ciencia ficción.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was probably the most interesting and fun story to follow, and my favorite, after The Wrestler, of the few I've seen so far. The Forrest Gump air that I felt through the whole movie, had a very simple explanation at the end, it's from the same writer. The story's message is about living life to the fullest, but given how incredible sensible I can be sometimes, the clearest message for me was of how timeless love is and the barriers that two people can suppress when they truly love each other. The storytelling gives you that beautifully, and in a very original way. During the last 15 minutes of the movie I felt that awe and relived feeling that you get when you know the story is going to end the way it should be. Brad Pitt was beautiful in every age he played, and I don't mean physically, but in the charm and presence he put in Benjamin Button. The relationships between the characters and the decisions they make that lead to all the consequences in each other’s lives is what makes this movie universal for everyone who sees it, in spite of being a science fiction story.

The Wrestler (9.3/10)

Nunca había sentido la necesidad de escribir las impresiones acerca de una película como lo había sentido después de ver The Wrestler, la vi una semana antes de los Oscars y tenía la plena seguridad de que Mickey Rourke se lo llevaría por mejor actor, personalmente creo que fue robado, porque ésta fue la actuación de su vida, ugh los oscars son tan políticos.

Una de las cosas que me encantan de las películas independientes es que generalmente se concentran más en brindar actuaciones inolvidables, cándidas y reales al espectador, más que la historia como tal. ¿Por qué? Porque son ideas más específicas que las genéricas, mediocres que generalmente producen a montón los grandes estudios, porque se basan en vivencias de personas reales, el día a día, la idiosincrasia. Porque tienen bajo presupuesto y tienen que ingeniárselas para hacer algo original y sin muchos efectos especiales o ninguno en lo absoluto. Porque el hecho de que sean independientes les permite tener mucha más libertad en cuestiones creativas, entre otras razones. En fin, las películas indie son lo máximo sin intentar demasiado, por eso las adoro. La más reciente que entra a mis favoritas: the Wrestler. Nunca me ha llamado la atención la lucha libre y siempre había pensado que era estúpida, por ser fingida y hacer uso de trajes increíblemente gay, pero nunca había visto con tanto asombro y empatía una película acerca de exactamente eso, tampoco es que he visto muchas de lucha. Voy a resumir lo fino de esta película en 3 partes:

1.-La actuación conmovedora e impecable de Mickey Rourke: Creo que lo único que recuerdo de Mickey Rourke es que solía actuar y ser semi-famoso y que pasó a ser otro actor fracasado de Hollywood, esto hace que su actuación sea aún más honesta y memorable. No pudieron elegir a un mejor actor para representar a Randy 'the Ram', porque pasó por una situación muy similar en su vida. Dejó su corazón-casi literalmente- y alma en este rol. Es impresionante ver los ojos de este actor en ciertas escenas, especialmente las escenas con su hija, es casi imposible que a uno no se le haga un nudo en la garganta, el sufrimiento físico y emocional que muestra, como los pocos momentos de alegría, son el alma y corazón de la película, lo cual lo hace merecedor de todos los reconocimientos posibles, especialmente el de la academia, el cual todavía no sé por qué no se lo dieron. Supongo que después de ver 'Milk' decidiré si Sean Penn valía la pena o no. Tal como dice el poster: “Se puede ser testigo de la resurrección de Rourke” en este film.

2.- Lo brillante que es Darren Aronofsky: Si Requiem for a Dream se sintió real, ésta se pasó. Las locaciones, la sangre en el ring, las heridas de Randy, las tomas, los sonidos, la perspectiva de la cámara en los primeros minutos, las interacciones entre los luchadores en el camerino, la coreografía de las peleas, la canción de Bruce Springsteen, el score de Clint Mansell, el cabello de Rourke, hasta el más insignificante de los personajes, el detalle que puso hasta en la escena más mundana, como por ejemplo: él vendiendo ensalada-nunca una escena de alguien atendiendo en la charcutería de un supermercado había sido tan fascinante para mí como lo fue ésta jaja-, la atmósfera de la película es tan increíble que es entretenido ver hasta los árboles que salen de fondo, todo se siente brutalmente real, honesto y puro; en gran parte debido a la visión tan perfecta de Aronofsky, quien una vez más, entrega una película inolvidable. Los primeros cinco minutos me hipnotizaron y sólo era Randy caminando hacia su trailer y durmiendo en el carro, así es lo brillante de este director. Ahora más que nunca, uno de mis favoritos.

3.- Las actuaciones sólidas de Marisa Tomei y Evan Rachel Wood: Sin las actuaciones de ellas dos no se hubiese sentido completa la atmósfera, Marisa Tomei te da ese espíritu de consideración que uno usualmente no tendría por una estríper. Al final todos somos humanos, tenemos debilidades y eso es lo que muestra en este film, lo vulnerable que somos todos a pesar de las apariencias. La conexión de ella con Randy es muy interesante de observar. Y bueno, Evan Rachel Wood una vez más dejando todo en su actuación como lo ha hecho literalmente desde que trabajó en Once and Again, impecable. Las escenas fueron pocas, pero fue tan verdadero todo el dolor y frustración que tenía, que explotó en cada escena, el resultado: probablemente las escenas más conmovedoras de la película.

I've never felt the necessity of writing the impressions about a movie, as I feel now after seeing The Wrestler, I saw it like a week before the Oscars and was completely sure Mickey Rourke was gonna get it as lead actor, personally I think he was robbed, because this was the performance of a lifetime, ugh the Oscars can be so political.

One of the things I love about independent films is that they focus in delivering unforgettable, solid, candid and real performances to the viewer, more so than anything else. Why? Because the ideas are more specific than the generic, mediocre ones that big studios produce most of the time. Because they're based in stories of real people, everyday people, of the idiosyncrasy. Because they have low budget and they have to figure out how to do something original without almost any visual effects or none whatsoever. Because the fact that they're independent, allows them to have more freedom in the creative process, among other reasons. Anyways, indie movies rock, that's why I love them. The most recent among my favorites: The Wrestler.
I've never really cared for wrestling, I've always thought it's stupid, 'cause it's fake and the use of incredible gay costumes, but I've also never seen with so much awe and empathy a film about exactly that. It's not like I've seen a lot of movies about wrestling anyway. I'll synthesize the awesomeness of this movie in three parts:

1.-The touching and flawless performance by Mickey Rourke: I think the only thing I remember about this actor is that he used to act and be semi-famous and that he became one of the many burnouts Hollywood actors; this makes his performance even more memorable and honest. They couldn't pick a better actor for this role of Randy 'the Ram', because he went through a similar situation in his life. He left his heart - almost literally- and soul in the ring. It's amazing to see at this actor's eyes in some scenes, especially the ones with his daughter, it’s almost impossible not to choke up, the physical and emotional suffering that he shows, as well the few moments of joy, are the heart and soul of this movie, which makes him very well deserving of all kinds of awards, specially the academy award, which I still don't know why he didn't get it. I guess after seeing 'Milk' I'll decide whether or not Sean Penn was worth it.

2.- The brilliance of Darren Aronofsky: If Requiem for a Dream felt real, this one went on too much. The locations, the blood on the ring, Randy's wounds, the shots of the movie, the sounds, the camera perspective in the first minutes, the interactions between the wrestlers backstage, the choreography of the fights, Bruce Springsteen's song, Clint Mansell's score, even the most insignificant of the characters, the detail even in the most mundane scene, i.e.: Randy selling salad- never a scene of someone selling at a supermarket looked so fascinating to me haha-, the atmosphere in the film is so incredible, that even watching the trees in the background is entertaining, everything feels so brutally real, honest and pure, great part because of Aronofsky's perfect vision who, once again, delivers an unforgettable work. The first five or ten minutes of the film had me hypnotized, and it was just about Randy walking to his trailer and sleeping in his car, that's how brilliant this director is. Now more than ever, he’s one of my favorites.

3.- The solid performances of Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood: Without these two performances the atmosphere wouldn't feel complete, Marisa Tomei produced in me this spirit of consideration for her that one doesn't usually feels for a striper. At the end of the day we're all human, and we all have weaknesses and that's what she shows in this film, the vulnerability that all of us have in spite of the appearances. The connection between her and Mikey Rourke’s character is very interesting to watch. And well, Evan Rachel Wood once again is leaving everything in this role, like she's been doing literally since she was in Once and Again, flawless. There were just a few scenes but all the frustration and pain that she had was so real, that she just burst out in every scene, the result: probably the most touching scenes of the movie.

The long overdue best-of list '08

Soy procrastinadora, demasiado, es uno de los demonios de los que estoy tratando de librarme hoy en día, parece que por fin decidí publicar la lista de lo mejor del ’08, sip, estoy haciendo la lista de lo mejor del 2008 en febrero jaja. La cosa es ésta: incluso en febrero hay shows importantes de premios ¿no?: los Oscars, los Grammys, etc, así que nunca es tarde, lo llamo una manera de asegurarme realmente que escogí lo mejor, a pesar de que mi intención desde el principio, fue hacer una cosa súper elaborada al respecto, francamente el año pasado fue bastante decente musicalmente hablando. Este año, sin embargo, ha sido fenomenal (Animal Collective, por supuesto); de alguna forma siempre encontraba una manera de aplazar esto, y literalmente todos los días encontraba 2 o 3 discos nuevos, espectaculares en su propia manera, y se me hacía más difícil decidir. Es bastante obvio después de esta retahíla, lo primero que escribí huh?

So I'm a big procrastinator, BIG TIME, is one of the demons I'm trying to get rid of nowadays, it seems like I have finally decided to post my best of music thingy for ‘08, yep, that's right, I'm doing a ’08 best-of list in February haha. So this is the deal, even still in February there're all of these important award shows: the Academy Awards, the Grammys, right? So it's never too late, call it a way to be really sure I'm picking the best haha. Though my intention from the beginning was to post like an elaborated thing on the matter, 'cause last year was actually pretty decent music wise, this year though, has been awesome so far (with Animal Collective, that is); somehow I found myself procrastinating the whole thing, and quite frankly, literally every day, I got like 2 or 3 new records, awesome in every possible way, and so I found it harder every time to make up my mind. It's an understatement after this rant my first statement huh? ...Lets just get it over with...

10. The Helio Sequence - Keep Your Eyes Ahead [Listen]

Básicamente amé este álbum desde que salió a comienzos de año. Fue amor a primera oída. Llamaron mi atención con ‘Keep Your Eyes Ahead’, ganaron mi corazón con ‘Halleluyah’ y mi obsesión con ‘Shed Your Love’. Son simplemente fenomenales.

Basically I loved this album since it came out, early last year. It was love at first listen. They caught my attention with ‘Keep Your Eyes Ahead’, won my heart with ‘Halleluyah’ and my obsessive listening with ‘Shed Your Love’. These guys are simply, awesome.

9. Sigur Rós - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust [Listen]

El amor que me atrajo a esta banda hace años, me trajo de vuelta una vez más, nunca fallan ante mis oídos, pues son clase aparte. ‘Við spilum endalaust’ fue la que lo hizo para mí, ‘Gobbledigook’ y ‘Festival’ cerraron el trato, y después de todo entraron en el top una vez más. Sólo porque no estén en el top 3 no significa que no sean perfectos.

The love that drew me to this band years ago brought me back to them once again, they never fail to my ears, because well, they’re something else. ‘Við spilum endalaust’ made it for me, ‘Gobbledigook’ and ‘Festival’ sealed the deal, and after all they made it to the top one more time. Just because they’re not in the top 3 doesn’t mean they’re not effing perfect.

8. Bon Iver - For Emma Forever Ago [Listen]

Este me golpeó como una cachetada la primera vez, me sacudió la segunda, y para la tercera vez ya no podía parar y no pude evitar enamorarme de su voz, la cual es increíble, al igual que el ambiente irreal que tiene cada canción. Un trabajo hermoso e impecable que merece toda la atención que obtuvo y más. ‘Skinny Love’ es la canción más adorable que existe, y ‘Re: Stacks’, ‘Lump Sum’, *suspiro* simplemente geniales.

This hit me like a slap in the face the first time, shook me the second time, by the third time I couldn't stop and couldn't help but fall in love with his amazing voice, as well as the surreal mood that sets the tone for every single song. Flawless and beautiful work that deserves all the attention it got and more. ‘Skinny Love’ is like the loveliest song ever, and ‘Re: Stacks’, ‘Lump Sum’, *sigh* just amazing.

7. The Dodos – Visiter [Listen]

Esta fue LA obsesión para mí por una cantidad considerable de tiempo, en serio. Este es uno de esos álbumes que me hipnotizan y todavía no estoy muy segura de la razón, lo que sí sé, es que éste fue uno de los álbumes más subestimados del año pasado, merecía más atención por su infinita genialidad. Supongo que eso lo hace más especial en cierta forma. ‘Fools’ es una de las mejores canciones del año.

Seriously, this was like THE obsession for me for quite a while last year, this is one of those albums that hypnotizes me and I'm still not quite sure the reason, but I do know that this is one of the most underrated albums of the year, it deserved more attention 'cause of its infinite awesomeness . I guess that makes it more special in some way. ‘Fools’ is one of the greatest songs of the year.

6. Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs [Listen]

Finalmente algo nuevo vino de los hace bastante tiempo adorados Death Cab, cada pista respira tristeza, y vamos a ser claros, es DCFC de quien estamos hablando, no puedes tener uno sin el otro, eso es lo que los hace una de las mejores bandas en el género, son los expertos en hacer la tristeza parecer algo cool, y porque al final del día todavía sientes como que te hicieron felices con las melodías!. ‘Sunlight’ y ‘Long Division’ fueron las que destacaron para mí. Las tuve en repetición como por una semana una vez. Todavía estoy esperando por el nuevo de The Postal Service.

Finally something new this way came, from long time beloved Death Cab, every track breaths sadness, and let's face it, it's DCFC we're talking about, you can't have one without the other, that's what makes it one of the best bands in that genre, they're the experts in making sadness look cool, because at the end of the day, you still feel like they gave you true joy with their tunes! ‘Sunlight’ and ‘Long Division’ stood out for me. I had them in repeat for like a week one time. I’m still waiting for the new Postal Service.

5. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular [Listen]

No puedo evitar sonreír cuando pienso en ellos, tuvieron sin duda alguna el álbum perfecto de pop del año, las canciones más ridículamente pegajosas, los más memorables himnos de juventud, las canciones más divertidas para bailar, ¿Mucho hype ? No, esa palabra ya está perdiendo el significado hoy en día, porque todo es relativo, la atención NO es mala si después de todo eres TAN bueno. ‘Time to Pretend’ fue mi canción favorita de todo el año.

I can't help but smile when I think about them; they had without a single doubt the perfect pop album of the year, the most ridiculously catchy songs, the most memorable anthems for youth, the most fun songs to dance to, way too much hype you say? c'mon, that word is losing its meaning nowadays, 'cause you know what, it's all relative, attention is NOT a bad thing if after all you are THIS awesome. ‘Time to Pretend’ was my favorite song of the whole year.

4. Deerhunter – Microcastle [Listen]

¿Qué fue lo que me llamó la atención de este? TODO, es una de esas cosas que sabes es grandioso y no necesitas pensarlo mucho en realidad. ‘Nothing Ever Happened’ es espectacular. Te encuentras inmerso como en una sensación de sueño mientras escuchas Microcastle, es simplemente un paseo suave, y es casi como si te transportaras al inicio de todo. ¿Muy intenso? Nah, son así de buenos.

What about this one got my attention? EVERYTHING, it was one of those things you know it's amazing and not really need to give it that much thought. ‘Nothing Ever Happened’ is WTF- kind of amazing. You find yourself immersed in a dream-like sensation while listening to Microcastle, It’s just an easy ride, and it's almost like you're transported to the beginning of everything. Intense much? Nah, they're just that good.

3. Frightened Rabbit - The Midnight Organ Fight [Listen]

Uno de mis últimos descubrimientos del año pasado, y de hecho estoy sorprendida que esté de tercero en mi lista, pero es que es demasiado amor este álbum, me knockearon, full hasta el piso, Hutchison me mató con ‘Poke’, ¿oh por qué tuvieron que hacer una canción tan buena? Pero la que en realidad se destaca entre las otras es ‘Keep Yourself Warm’, ¿Puedo decir asombrosamente hardcore? ’My Backwards Walk’ es excelente también, y pues todo el álbum es un viaje de principio a fin.

One of my latest discoveries last year, and I find myself surprised actually, that it's third in my list but it's just too much love man, they knock me out, flat on the ground, Hutchison just killed me with ‘Poke’, why oh why did they have to make such a good song? But the one that really floats above the rest is ‘Keep Yourself Warm’, hardcore, effing awesome may I say? ’My Backwards Walk’ is excellent as well, and the whole thing is a journey from start to finish.

2. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend [Listen]

Una de las razones principales por las que escogí este album, es, con toda seriedad...ok, la cosa es esta, amo la música, me encantaría hacer música genial algún día, cuando termine de tener una carrera o lo que sea, porque es mi pasión, y de alguna manera termino pensando: ¿Cómo me gustaría sonar? ¿Como cuál músico?, porque hay un pocotón de cosas que me gustan, otro pocotón que adoro, etc. Y me pongo a pensar mucho la cosa algunas veces. Pero hay el tipo de música que no te puedes librar de ella porque es fácil, es simple, sin complicaciones, y bueno es fresca!, no tienes que pensar mucho en ella, sólo relajarte y pasarla bien, y eso es lo que siento cuando escucho a estos chamos, ok no son Sigur Rós, Fleet Foxes o m83, pero son Vampire Weekend, son sumamente buenos a su propia manera, y eso fue lo que hizo que disfrutara tanto este álbum, sin complicaciones, adictivo, divertido y genial, que me mantuvo pegada a los audífonos por meses y meses y meses. Así que bueno, tal vez no era necesario que escribiera esta broma larguísima pero así es como me hacen sentir, y espero algún día producir música en ese sentido, porque tiendo a sobre pensar las cosas. En conclusión, todas las canciones son geniales, ‘The Kids Don't Stand a Chance’ es mi favorita.

One of the main reasons I picked this one, was, in all seriousness, because... ok, this is the thing, I love music, I would love to make amazing music someday, like when I'm done having a career or whatever, 'cause it's truly my passion, and somehow I end up thinking: what would I love to sound like?, like what kind of musician?, 'cause there's like a shit load of stuff I like, stuff I love, etc. And I put way too much thought into it sometimes. But there's the kind of music you can't get rid of because it's easy, it's simple, it's uncomplicated, and just fresh, you don't need to put too much thought into it, just relax and have a good time, and that's what I feel when I listen to these guys, ok so they're not Sigur Rós, Fleet Foxes, or m83, but they are Vampire Weekend, they’re wicked good in their own way, and that's what made this album so enjoyable for me, uncomplicated, addicting, fun and cool music that kept me glued to my headphones for months and months and months. So there, perhaps I didn't need to rant about it, but that's kind of how they make me feel, and hope someday I can produce music in that sort of sense, 'cause I tend to over think everything. Pretty much every song is great. ‘The Kids Don't Stand a Chance’ is my favorite.

1. TV on the Radio - Dear Science [Listen]

No es una sorpresa, es completamente predecible para aquellos con los que hablé respecto a esta obra de arte de perfección. La discografía de TVoTR es como un viaje de, uh, no sé, diversión! Return to the Cookie Mountain fue fuera de este mundo perfecto, pero Dear Science es lógico, cada canción estaba destinada a estar ahí. No puedes esperar menos de una banda que ha demostrado una habilidad consistente para impresionar y entregar el mejor trabajo posible, todo el tiempo. La primera vez que lo escuchas puedes sentir lo sutil de toda la producción,’ Golden Age’ es la canción impecable, ‘Family Tree’ te da un calorcito, ‘Dancing Choose’ no podría ser más bailable!, ’Halfway Home’ me hipnotiza, ‘Red Dress’ es sexy!, y bueno no puedo alargar mucho este punto, este es el mejor álbum para mí, porque tiene un poquito de todo y cada canción es 10+. Así que, ¿Qué hace esta banda tan asombrosa sin mucho esfuerzo para la mayoría de las personas? No lo sé, ¿Talento obvio? Tú dime.

It’s not a shocker; it's completely predictable for those whom I rant with, about this masterpiece of perfection. The entire discography of TVoTR is like a trip of, uh, I don't know, fun! Return to the Cookie Mountain was out of this world perfect, but Dear Science is just logical, every song was meant to be there. You can't really expect less of a band that has demonstrated a consistent ability to impress and deliver the best possible work, all the time. At first listen you can feel the smoothness overall the production,’ Golden Age’ is the flawless song, ‘Family Tree’ warms you up, ‘Dancing Choose’ couldn't be more danceable!, ‘Halfway Home’ hypnotizes me, ‘Red Dress’ is sexy! And well I can't stress this point too long, this is the best album, for me, 'cause it has a little bit of everything and every song is 10+. So what makes this band so effortless awesome to most of people? I don't know, obvious talent? You tell me.

En un tiempo donde las comedias románticas son simplemente clones de otras igual de malas, llega la película indie 'Lars y una Chica de Verdad', una película original, dulce, graciosa y sobretodo una crítica social.

Lars Lindstrom (Ryan Gosling) es un muchacho extremadamente tímido que vive en un pueblito con su hermano Gus (Paul Schneider), y su cuñada Karin (Emily Mortimer). Decide llevar a la casa a su novia Bianca, el detalle es que Bianca es una muñeca de sexo que compró por Internet a la que trata como una persona real. Su familia, guiados por la psicóloga Dagmar (Patricia Clarkson), preocupados por él y esperando entenderlo, le siguen el juego; el que resulta siguiendo todo el pueblo.

Cuando pienso en Ryan Gosling algunas cosas me vienen a la mente: talentoso, sexy, increíblemente bello, inteligente, The Notebook, hollywood clásico, nominado al Oscar, Rachel McAdams. Así sea un comercial de champú que haga va a ser perfecto. Ayer decidí bajar su filmografía después de ver 'The Notebook' hace como dos semanas, y sí, la película es predecible y empalagosa, pero no la puedo dejar de ver, y es simplemente muy romántica para su propio bien y me encanta.

'Lars and the Real Girl' es una comedia extremadamente dulce con toques de comedia negra. El concepto que representa la muñeca en la vida de Lars termina siendo universal para cualquier persona. No se trataba de lo físico que podía ser para él, sino la compañía que representaba, la empatía y la falta de crueldad que por lo general tenemos los seres humanos. Acentúa en los personajes de la historia la tolerancia y la bondad que todos podemos llegar a expresar pero que no lo hacemos en un 100%. Hay escenas tan brillantemente cómicas como extrañas que hacen que sea única.

La película demanda compasión y comprensión, y señala las implicaciones que un trauma puede tener en lo solitarias y cerradas que pueden ser las personas. Me encanta la falta del lado malo de la naturaleza humana en los personajes, y como al terminar la película piensas: "wow esto pudo haber sido un desastre, pero la convirtieron en algo muy fino". Admiro el riesgo que tomaron en un concepto que, si desarrollaban mal, iba a terminar en una parodia en Saturday Night Live.

La actuación de Ryan Gosling fue transparente, impecable y los tics nerviosos que le añadía al personaje fueron geniales. Si no te llega el simbolismo de la película o lo graciosa que llega a ser, vale la pena verla sólo por su actuación. Una de las películas más gratificantes y honestas que he visto, y prueba de que Ryan Gosling es ridículamente talentoso y adorable.

Lars Lindstrom is an extremely shy guy who lives in a small town with his brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and his sister-in-law Karin (Emily Mortimer), he proceeds to introduce his girlfriend Bianca to his family, but with a little inconvenience: she's a life sized sex doll that he bought on the Internet, and that he treats like a normal person. His family concerned, and hoping to understand him, are guided by doctor Dagmar (Patricia Clarkson) to play along with his delusion, in which the whole town eventually gets involved.

When I think about Ryan Gosling a few things come to mind: talented, sexy, stunishing beautiful, intelligent, 'The Notebook', classic hollywood, oscar nominee, Rachel McAdams.
Even if he makes a shampoo commercial it will come out great. Yesterday I decided to download his filmography after seeing 'The Notebook' two weeks ago, and sure, the movie was predictable and it's a lame chick flick, but I can't stop watching, it's just too romantic for its own good and I love it.

'Lars and the Real Girl' is sweet with dashes of dark comedy. What the doll represents in Lars' life ends up being universal for all of us, it wasn't about the physical conexion, but the companionship, emphaty, and the lack of cruelty that we all human beings have. The story acentuates in the characters the tolerance and kindness that we are all capable of showing, but don't really do. There are some brilliant weird and hilarious scenes that make the piece unique.

The film is a plea for compassion and understanding, and points out the implications of child trauma in how lonely and withdraw a person can become. I love the absence of the dark side of the human nature in the characters, and how at the end of the movie you think: "Wow this could have been a disaster but they transformed it into something really cool". I admire the chance they took to develop this concept, that could have easily ended up in a SNL parody, if done wrong. Ryan Gosling's performance was solid and transparent, those nervous tics he added to the character were great. If you don't get the symbolism of the movie, or how funny it can be, then you should see it for his performance. One of the most honest, gratifying movies I've seen lately, and proof that Ryan Gosling is ridiculously talented and adorable.

MGMT es una banda relativamente nueva en la escena musical, original de Brooklyn, su single 'Time to Pretend' es ridículamente pegajoso. La letra de la canción es muy graciosa e irónica, el video llamó mi atención desde el primer momento, es probablemente lo que uno ve bajo los efectos de ácido. simplemente hay que verlo, sin duda uno de los más originales que he visto últimamente.

MGMT is a band relatively new in the music scene, original from Brooklyn, their first single 'Time to Pretend' is ridiculously catchy. The lyrics are both funny and ironic, the video caught my attention since the first moment and it's probably what you see under the effects of LSD or acids. You just have to check it out, one of the most original ones I've seen lately.

Animal Collective es una de mis bandas favoritas del momento, su adictivo último LP Strawberry Jam es impecable. Aquí está el video de 'Fireworks', la mejor canción del álbum en mi opinión, el video te da una sensación de estar en drogas también.

Must-See Movies (Part 1)

Tengo unas cuantas pelis que valen la pena reseñar porque definitivamente te hacen pensar y reflexionar, puede que no las entiendas a la primera porque algunas películas de esta lista son sumamente raras, otras muy simbólicas, todas simplemente geniales. Obras de cineastas extraordinarios y, por supuesto, entretenidas.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (9.7/10)

Cuando Joel (Jim Carrey) descubre que su novia Clementine (Kate Winslet) decidió borrarlo de su memoria, contacta al Dr. que inventó el procedimiento para borrar a Clementine de su propia memoria, pero mientras los recuerdos de Joel comienzan a desaparecer, comienza a redescubrir su amor por ella.

Esta peli es una de mis favoritas, combina perfectamente la comedia, el romance y los efectos especiales. La historia es de Charlie Kaufman, y es dirigida por Michel Gondry, así que la combinación no podría ser mejor, dos de los mejores en su género.

Tanto las actuaciones como la dirección son espectaculares.

Requiem for a Dream (8.6/10 )

En Coney Island, Brooklyn, se desarrollan las historias paralelas de los 4 personajes, los cuales en busca de una mejor vida, quedan atrapados en el mundo de las drogas.

El concepto no es algo nuevo, pero la cinematografía, la edición y la dirección son lo máximo. Me encantó ver a Jared Leto aquí porque ya tengo una sobredosis de él con 30 Seconds to Mars, entonces fue algo diferente. Debió haberse quedado actuando en pelis francamente. Es del mismo director de Pi, otra peli espectacular. La película te deja un tanto deprimido, es tan oscura como brillante a la vez.

Mulholland Drive (8.5/10)

En esta historia compleja de suspenso que se desarrolla en Los Angeles, el escritor/director David Lynch explora la naturaleza esquizofrénica de la ciudad, una mezcla de inocencia, corrupción, amor, soledad, belleza, y depravación.

David Lynch es conocido como uno de los mejores cineastas de los últimos tiempos, ninguna película que veas de él es convencional. Hace 3 años vi Blue Velvet y me dejó con un signo de interrogación en la cabeza. Mulholland Drive te deja con un signo de interrogación cada 10 min, en las casi 2 horas y media que dura, pero al final cuando crees que todo se va a aclarar, te deja con dudas mayores. Es muy simbólica cuando logras comprenderla. Excelente dirección, sin duda uno de mis favoritos. Después de ver Lost Highway y Eraserhead probablemente necesite algo más ligero.

Donnie Darko (9.6/10)

Un drama en los suburbios, ambientado en los 80, se convierte en una historia de viajes en el tiempo, universos alternativos, y la manipulación del destino.

Esta película definitivamente estará en mi top 5 de películas favoritas por siempre, la podría ver 1 vez al mes sin aburrirme, sencillamente porque aún trato de comprenderla. Jake Gyllenhaal es lo máximo en esta película. Richard Kelly escribió y dirigió una de las películas indie más originales y excepcionales que he visto.

I Heart Huckabees (7.5/10 )

Convencido de que una serie de coincidencias encierran el secreto de los acertijos más grandes de la vida, Albert (Jason Schwartzman) busca la ayuda de una agencia de detectives como ninguna otra, la cual lo lleva por un camino que cuestiona la escencia de la existencia.

Al principio de la película no estás seguro que esperar, pero cuando comienzas a conocer los personajes y entras en la trama, se convierte en una comedia sumamente original.

Fue como ver una clase de filosofía, pero divertida, todo pasa muy rápido y hay momentos donde no sabes como procesar tanto sarcasmo, con la psicología y sentido de la historia, y de los personajes. Es un viaje donde al final quedas satisfecho de que hayan equilibrado la comedia lo suficiente como para que no te explotara la cabeza.

Quería incluir en Flooding My Senses las primeras impresiones que tuve de la banda que considero hace la mejor música que mis oídos han escuchado, los músicos más excepcionales y una de las bandas en mi top 5: Sigur Rós.

Claro que comencé hace 3 años a escribir alguito sobre ellos, los posts están en mi viejo "blog" si se le puede llamar así, también tengo recomendaciones y reseñas de varios álbumes, bandas y series.

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Comienzo con el álbum que he estado escuchando en repeat durante el último mes:

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Cuando Spoon lanzó 'Gimme Fiction' en el 2005, pensé que no podía existir un disco más adictivo y perfecto, escuchar el álbum es toda una experiencia, 'I Summon You' y 'I Turn My Camera On' son increíblemente pegajosas y no podía sacarlas de mi cabeza por días!. Spoon produjo una obra maestra, limpia, divertida, misteriosa, perfecta... y llegó el sexto álbum!

Con Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga dieron otro paso, con tracks como: 'Finer Feelings' indiscutiblemente el mejor y mi track favorito del álbum, 'The Underdog', otra de mis favoritas, que habla del débil, el rechazado, es muy pegajosa y la letra no podría ser mejor.La canción que te garantiza que puedes hacer mucho con poco: 'The Ghost of You Lingers', te mantiene hipnotizado por más de 3 minutos, al igual que 'Don't Make Me a Target' y 'You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb' son parte de lo que te espera en el resto de esta maravillosa producción. En realidad no podría resumirlo en sólo esas canciones, es una travesía de principio a fin, sin duda uno de los mejores del 2007, es uno de esos álbumes que crece en ti, y cada vez que lo escuchas encuentras algo diferente. Britt Daniel es increíble y una vez más hace esos registros de voz geniales. Simplemente tiene el sello de calidad, consistencia y frescura que caracteriza a la banda.

Spoon experimenta con sonidos, y fusiona perfectamente el indie pop con lo dramático y no tan fácil de digerir. La sutileza de las letras es encantadora. Con este álbum definitivamente evolucionaron, cada vez que producen algo nuevo alcanzan un punto diferente en su carrera, sin duda una de las mejores bandas experimentales, indie de estos tiempos. Es una de esas bandas que me hace tener fe en el rock & roll y en su habilidad para continuar sorprendiendo e inspirando. Y pensar que todo comenzó cuando los escuché en The O.C...
