I am a sucker for postcards! Both on the sending and receiving end. I have an extensive collection of postcards at home, ready to be sent should the occasion arise. Nevertheless, there is always room for more postcards! Sending a postcard does not have to be difficult or expensive: all-in-all, it's the message that counts!

With Valentine's Day coming up, I wanted to share these cute diy printable cards from a pair and a spare.

Orphan Black

Orphan Black is not just another series I have been watching on Netflix. It is one of the best, if not the best, show I have watched on Netflix. And Michiel Huismans plays a recurring role in the series - need I say more?!

At the start of the series, Sarah uncovers a huge secret about her life. She is a clone and part of a group of clones. An enormous compelling conspiracy.

The plot twists and turns whilst the suspense grows. As questions are answered, more are posed. Meanwhile the show's captivating world grows bigger by the episode. The story contains just enough intrigue and danger to let you sleep peacefully. All the while, the series raises issues about the moral and ethics of cloning and its effect on issues of personal identity. The show is both addictive and compelling; Orphan Black is definitely worth several hours of your time!

Paris is always a good idea. But since my time and budget are a thing, I chose the second best thing: Une Fête Parisienne a.k.a. the NSMBL Festival 2015.

An event filled with things girls love: from a nail bar and carousel, to delicious food, wine and clothes. But you could also submerge yourself in workshops, photo booths and a goodie bag!

Most exciting of all? The available illustrators! Elysanne Schuurman made a beautiful drawing of me in my new wine-red dress.

Recently I attended an event for and by Powerwomen. The happening was part of a series of events themed Women in Control organised in the Nationale Nederlanden DE café in Rotterdam.

Speakers of the evening were Dorothee van Vredenburch (Management Board NN Group), Diana Koster (Coach and author of the book and bestselling author) and May-Britt Mobach (former editor-in-chief Marie Claire and founder of Amayzine.com). Each of these ladies shared her personal story regarding her career, personal obstacles and how she succeeded. Over 100 ambitious women visited the event which was truly inspiring. Who run the world? Girls! (and women!)

The NN DE café frequently organises events. Often entrance is free of charge, you just need to sign up. Check out their event schedule here!

A vampire thing

It is time to fess up. I have been watching the Vampire Diaries. I have been watching the series until the very last episode available on Netflix..
The Vampire Diaries takes place in a town called Mystic Falls. A town where supernatural forces come together - totally unrealistic, but intriguing nevertheless. As the story unfolds, more and more secrets are revealed. An impossible love story and a never-ending fight to survive. Don't watch if you are prone to addictions.

Season 6 will be available on Dutch Netflix in Spring 2016. Season 7 is scheduled to air in the US in October 2015.

My plastic-free beauty rituals

We have a nice waste sorting system in place at home. There are different bins for paper, plastic and glass, although a biodegradable waste bin is yet to come (as soon as the local authorities of Utrecht have small containers in stock again). But then I read an article about microbeads. Microbeads are tiny pieces of plastic in beauty products, such as body scrubs and facial cleansers, that we flush down our drains on a daily basis. Along with our good waste sorting intentions. Sewer systems are unable to filter out microbeads. And thus they end up in our marine food chain.
However, I am happy to inform you that there are plenty of beauty products without microbeads! You just have to know where to find them. With the app beat the microbead you can check whether your beauty products contain microbeads

I discovered that my beloved beauty products from one of my favourite brands are plastic-free! Thank you, Rituals! Since April 2015 all products from Rituals are microbead-free, plus, none of their products are tested on animals. Guess I will be buying all my beauty products from Rituals from now on.

This week the new collection of H&M Beauty products was launched, and I was there! Together with my sister Roos (rosebelle.nl), I enjoyed an H&M club evening filled with fashion, beauty and glamour. Welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine, cupcakes and macarons, we headed straight to the new beauty corner - which truly is a corner! Nevertheless, all the products are very easy on the eye! The event was hosted by Manon Tilstra, beauty blogger at manontilstra.nl. And with make-up artists available to create different looks, the eventing was complete.

Dior and Floor

A couple of weeks ago, I went to the cinema for the movie Dior and I. I haven't had time to write a piece yet, but the movie impressed and inspired me so much, that I still feel compelled to write this blog post.
The movie follows fashion designer Raf Simons designing his first collection for Dior in less than 2 months. Simons's approach to fashion, designing and, even more so, art, is inspiring. The highly competent professionals walking though the halls of the house of Dior, going about their work, are fascinating. The entire movie builds up to the moment Simons's collection is shown on the catwalk. The latter being absolutely unbelievably beautiful. Altogether absurd, but mesmerising.

For some, interior decoration remains digital; limited to a board on Pinterest. I, however, extend interior decorating to my digital devices. I dress the background of my iPhone, iPad and laptop to match with my home, down to my screensaver. And thus I have the habit to collect wallpapers. An organised closet

As I have mentioned before, I am a neat freak. I feel my best when organised. And as every organiser knows, proper organisation is in the details. And at times, those details get to me. One of those details was my collection of clothes hangers. Every hanger in my closet was unique, not to my liking. So one can imagine my excitement when the below arrived:

This excitement wasn't caused by the way they were piled in the box off course, but by the fact that they are all the same and SHINY! So I immediately got to work and look at the result:

Clothes hangers can be bought anywhere - from Ikea to Hema. However, buying your clothes hangers at a department store can be really pricey. I bought mine at hangershop.nl and am really satisfied with their service. Individual clothes hangers are priced €0,16 and up. Keep the following in mind when you shop for clothes hangers:

How much space do you have? Wooden clothes hangers take up a lot more space than their plastic equivalent. Since lack of space is at the top of my list of organisational problems, this was an easy decision to make.
Which items do you want to hang? Skirts and shirts off course require different clothes hangers, but women's versus men's shirts may require a different clothes hanger as well. Clothes hangers are available in many different widths and shapes. Grab a measuring tape and measure a clothes hanger that (on average) best suits your items. Since clothes hangers are sold individually at hangershop.nl, you may want to decide to order a variety of clothes hangers if necessary - but in the same style off course

Plant watering

Although I adore my indoor plants, I must admit I sometimes forget to water them. With temperatures increasing again in the Netherlands, I started searching for indoor plant self-watering systems. However, most of these systems are either unsightly or very expensive. Until I stumbled across this coke bottle watering globe DYI.
I bought my coke bottles at an ordinary supermarket (Jumbo and Albert Heijn should have them), but any glass bottle with a long bottleneck should work just fine.
Water your plant first to make the soil moist. Fill the empty (and clean!) bottle with water and add some plant nutrients if necessary. Put your thumb over the top opening of the bottle and turn the bottle upside down. Next is the most exciting part of this DYI... Quickly remove your thumb and push the bottle into the soil. Easy peasy.

Organising a household can be challenging (even if this household consists of only 2 people). I couldn't be happier with the calendar in my iPhone - one less thing to carry around in my purse - but combining 2 digital calendars is a challenge. So I opted for a classic paper calender. In August. Yep, that search ended quickly.
Until - *brainwave* - I googled "printable calendar" and started my search. I found some great free printable calendars. Just print the calendar of your choice on some thick paper (like 200 g/m²) and you are ready to go. For some calendars, do not forget to adjust your printer settings/orientation to landscape for horizontal prints: some calendars are sized to fit US paper. Bind the pages together with a fold-back clip or attach them to a (cardboard) clipboard to make your calendar look extra nice (check out this clipboard from ikea).
And isn't is soothing to know that you can reprint any month should it become one big mess!
A printable calendar is also very useful when making a (city) trip: just scrabble and doodle away to create your very own planning.

While searching for a calendar, I also came across this cute birthday calender, which I - of course - printed in black and white, but the calendar is just as beautiful in full-colour (Birthday calendar from Liz Mosley).

As you sometimes need to challenge yourself to do new things, I organised a bike ride from Haarlem to Zandvoort including lunch. A very bourgeois activity one might argue, but very satisfying nevertheless - bike, beach, beer - need I say more? We had a great time biking and enjoyed the best spot at beachclub Tijn Akersloot in Zandvoort. Tijn's apple crumble is famous for a reason *nomnomnomnom*...

As I had a day off from work on Tuesday, I decided to catch up on an old hobby: browsing through second-hand stores - or as we in Dutch would call them kringloopwinkels. I generally limit my search to the section with tableware and vases since porcelain and glass are easy to clean unlike some other materials (yes, I am a neat freak, but we will come back to that later). My search definitely paid off because I found 2 matching glass vases for €5 total! The vases were displayed in different sections. Next time when you visit a second-hand store, don't forget to check various tables and shelves - there might be matching items!

Sale is my favourite season of all - although the Christmas season is a strong competitor. But as the word end-of-season sale neatly points out; collections are sold at a discount at the end of the season. Unless you are spending the next 6 months on the other side of the equator, you have to take into account the upcoming changing weather conditions. Therefore, when I am browsing through items in the summer sales, I try to imagine the items in the opposite weather conditions - frail summer dresses obviously won't work in the snow. Some collections have great items that can transfer into the next season! One of my favourite shops, VANILIA, is a great example. I just bought these sweaters and top, which I know I will love to wear this fall and winter. I will showcase my new items to you as soon as the weather changes!

Warm nights

I fell in love with my appartment building - Villa Wentinck - the moment I passed it for the first time. The rest is history. The former school building with 5 meter high ceilings has one downside during the summer: a bedroom on a mezzanine. As soon as the temperature outside goes up, so does the temperature in the bedroom - and not in a good way. But of course, I am up for the challenge!

This year I replaced my comforter with simple cotton sheets! The first top sheets I bought at IKEA. I ordered my second pair of sheets at Zara Home. I just discovered that they sell the most beautiful white top sheets with embroidery and prints made from Egyptian cotton. I cannot wait for my new sheets to be delivered - I will keep you posted!

Firsts

Welcome to Floor Anna and welcome to my first blog post! The incredible magic of firsts... Who doesn't remember their first day of school or uni, a first kiss, wearing a brand-new pair of shoes for the first time. In short, life is all about firsts. There is one special first I would like to share with you. Back in the day of little Floor, my mum always bought me a new and special outfit for my birthday. An outfit that would be displayed for several days (which felt like weeks) and which I could not wait to wear. I will never forget that magical feeling when I got to wear my outfit for the first time. I still get all jittery and excited when I am wearing something new, for which I am very grateful to my mum!

Floor Anna is a personal blog about fashion, home and lifestyle. Written by me, Floor, a 26-year-old Personal Assistant. 2 years ago I bought a one of a kind apartment in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I will write about everything I enjoy to do, love to wear and like to watch. Including my dreams, adventures and challenges.
