With that in mind, we’ve never celebrated our mothers on just one day a year. We always try to have a Mothers’ Month here at Floozees Doozees. If your mother means the world to you, we invite you to join us in an impromptu celebration of mothers everywhere.

And we’d like to thank our moms. While none of us are perfect, for the most part we turned out alright. That’s because of mom. We love you, mom! Sorry about all those grey hairs. ]]> Don't Make Me Send Out The Flying MonkeysOkay, around here we have no problems rolling with the flow, but sometimes something happens that’s so off-the-wall that you’re left scratching your head. In this business, there are patterns. Some weeks everybody wants 2X shirts. The next week it might be 5X or Medium. Some of our designs will start selling for no particular reason. I mean, a rise in Christmas designs around Christmas is a no-brainer. But occasionally we’ll sell six or seven of a particular design that’s been hanging around in the proverbial basement of our inventory for years.

Exactly that has been happening over the last couple of days. We don’t know why, but we’ve sold a bunch of our “Don’t Make Me Sent Out the Flying Monkeys” design lately. It’s always been a popular one, but we’ve sold enough lately that, quite frankly, we were beginning to get suspicious that someone was “punking” us.

So far, no harm no foul. We’ll just have to keep pondering if maybe, finally, someone actually DID release the Flying Monkeys. What do you think? Heard of anything that might explain the sudden, passionate interest in Flying Monkeys in general? If so, let us know! We’d love to be in on the joke!

]]> USPS BoxesWe’re currently going through our entire inventory, updating our shipping weights on individual products with more accurate numbers. Previously the variations on some of our older products (those that had been around the longest) either had simple estimations of weights on size variations, or sometimes one default weight applied to all variations. This largely came about because in the early days we didn’t know what the heck we were doing, and some of our procedures back in those days didn’t serve us well.

Honestly, since we offer Free Shipping to our customers in the United States, this has never been much of an issue. Most of our customers take advantage of our Free Shipping. But relatively recently the United States Postal Service has changed the way they estimate shipping fees, almost doubling their fees on some weight classes, and this has presented us with certain obvious problems.

Primarily, the shipping weights and changes in USPS fees affect International customers, but it also affects our customers in the U.S. who prefer Priority or Express shipping. It is with that in mind that we’ve undertaken the Herculean task of updating every single one of our listings, comprising over 22,000 variations of sizes and colors. If USPS is going to charge more, we are determined that our customers will not pay a penny more in Priority, Express and International shipping costs than is necessary.

Most of our U.S. customers who elect for Free Shipping will notice no difference in their prices and shipping costs. But the updates should help those customers who prefer Priority and Express shipping, as well as our International customers who have especially seen their USPS shipping fees rise dramatically because recent USPS changes.

As ever, we thank you for your support and patience. We look forward to serving you for many more years to come, and apologize for any inconvenience the recent changes in USPS shipping fees may have caused you. We’re a small company with limited resources, but when there’s a problem we try to get right on it.

]]> Cellphone ZombiesI was standing in line at the supermarket the other day in a long line behind a woman who decided to pay with a check. It was no big deal to me, but the cashier acted like she’d never seen a check before. A manager was called in. An impromptu conference was held, followed by a learning experience for the young employee. When the manager left, the cashier glanced at the person who was bagging and kind of shook her head, like the customer had caused problems in the general flow of things by insisting they speak only in ancient Sanskrit. You know. How could anybody actually use paper checks in 2013?

I looked around me at the other people in line. Almost universally, people were standing around, staring down at their cellphones and smartphones, immersed in the latest technology and only barely aware that there were other people around them. There was no real interaction between anyone in line. None of us wanted to talk to the others. Myself included. But I winked into a realization as the “check lady” wandered on and I moved up in the queue, and found that there was still someone else in front of me. The cashier looked up and smiled at me, nodded and motioned at my t-shirt.

“I love your shirt,” she said, causing several people to look at me.

Zombies Were People Too!I glanced down, trying to remember what t-shirt I’d slipped on before I left for the store. A cute zombie face looked back at me. Oh, yeah. One of my favorite of our Floozees Doozees zombie designs. A cute, harmless looking zombie holding a sign that reads “Zombies Are Were People Too”. I’d suddenly caused quite a few smiles, and was glad to do it. But as everyone returned to their usual haze, walking along with their noses buried in text messages and smartphones apps, as if surfacing from the depths for a quick breath of oxygen before diving back down into the deeps, I couldn’t help but look around me and think…

“Wow. The zombies are upon us.”

They are, aren’t they? They’re just not quite the zombies we were expecting. :-)

There’s a fine art to being silly that not everyone can pull off. But you won’t know until you try. In the end, the only thing that matters is that you amuse yourself! If you think you’re funny, who cares if other people don’t get it?

As you go out this weekend and kick up your heels, make sure to keep it safe. There’s no point in being silly if you’re going to be stupid. There’s a line you shouldn’t cross, you know. But if you do happen to find yourself sitting in a holding cell somewhere because you told the wrong joke to the wrong undercover police officer, just tell ‘em Floozees Doozees made ya do it. ]]> I Used To Skinny Dip, Now I Chunky Dunk!April 1st is upon us! It’s time to go out and generally cause as much mischief as you can manage. Needless to say, this is a day when you pretty much can’t believe anything you see or hear. Or, at least, the day when you should take everything with a big grain of salt. Trust no one.  Or better yet, trust everyone and believe everything you’re told. That’d make for a more interesting day, you have to admit.

It’s believed that the earliest recorded association between April 1st and wanton foolishness can be found in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales from 1392. So general silliness is nothing new. We take a different approach to April 1st here at Floozees Doozees. We’re not so much interested in fooling anybody or staging elaborate hoaxes. We prefer to simply take the day for its literal translation - April Fool’s Day – and instead celebrate silliness. This is a day you’ll find lots of fake noses around the shop, and jokes galore being spread – the punnier the better. It’s in that spirit that we wanted to feature some of our silliest designs, and ask our customers to join with us in celebrating the spread of some good humor. What is life without laughter, right?

]]> Ralph The Garden GnomeThere’s only one thing garden gnomes love more than hanging out in the flower beds and being creepy. Not a lot of people know it, but garden gnomes have an unhinged love for… what else? Garden flags! Our resident gnome, Ralph, is no different. But you see, Ralph is an activist, and does everything he can to spread the word about the wide selection of garden flags that we have here at Floozees Doozees.

Normally we look the other way. After all, it benefits us if Ralph can sell a few more garden flags for us. But this time… well… Ralph went too far.

As you may have noticed, the front page of the Floozees Doozees store is over-flowing with garden flags. According to Ralph this is the way it should be at all times, and he’s never liked the fact that we tend to feature other products, such as our huge t-shirt collection, hand-made jewelry and other eclectic goodies.

Please bear with us as you wade through the garden flag listings at the front of the store. Ralph was busy during the night, loading all his favorite garden flags into the Floozees Doozees catalog. We’re going to let it stand for now. But just to be on the safe side, we’ve placed Ralph in a guarded room by the third tree stump from the right in the back yard. If you’re in the area, drop by and say hello. It’ll help keep Ralph’s spirits up as he ponders his new title as this week’s Bad Gnome.
