Billions in aid go to areas that backed Obama in ‘08

WASHINGTON — Billions of dollars in federal aid delivered directly to the local level to help revive the economy have gone overwhelmingly to places that supported President Obama in last year’s presidential election.

That aid — about $17 billion — is the first piece of the administration’s massive stimulus package that can be tracked locally. Much of it has followed a well-worn path to places that regularly collect a bigger share of federal grants and contracts, guided by formulas that have been in place for decades and leave little room for manipulation.

There’s no politics at work when it comes to spending for the recovery,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says.

Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration’s $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, a USA TODAY analysis of government disclosure and accounting records shows. That money includes aid to repair military bases, improve public housing and help students pay for college.

The reports show the 872 counties that supported Obama received about $69 per person, on average. The 2,234 that supported McCain received about $34.

Ah well, I suppose it’s all one big coincidence. Right? Oh sure!

More than 60 campers from Northeast Philadelphia were turned away from a private swim club and left to wonder if their race was the reason.

“I heard this lady, she was like, ‘Uh, what are all these black kids doing here?’ She’s like, ‘I’m scared they might do something to my child,’” said camper Dymire Baylor.

The Creative Steps Day Camp paid more than $1900 to The Valley Swim Club. The Valley Swim Club is a private club that advertises open membership. But the campers’ first visit to the pool suggested otherwise.

If accurate (and who amongst us really trusts the press these days?), this is clearly outrageous. Such blatant racism has no place.

An insinuation that this was, of course, those nasty Republicans inspired me to do some research…

First up, a search for “Valley+Swim+Club+PA” which yielded a link to this handy site. From there I had a street address, but more importantly, a City. Next search: “Huntingdon+Valley+PA+county” which yields Montgomery County. Next stop, The Tired Gray Crone’s Election Map 2008 for Pennsylvania. Montgomery County is just Northwest of Philadelphia.

Turns out that county went for Obama by 54.7% and is one of the bluest of blue counties in PA.

How about them limousine liberals!

As the country gets that palpable sense that we are heading in the wrong direction.

The Democrats decide to pull out their oft used tactic…..blame Bush for everything:

Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee decided to reveal CIA Director Leon Panetta’s admission that the agency misled Congress after waiting weeks with no response from Panetta, sources familiar with the matter tell POLITICO.

The Democrats, in a letter released Wednesday night, said “top CIA officials have concealed significant actions… and misled” members of Congress since 2001.

Notice the time period? Yeah…

In a June 26 letter to Mr. Panetta discussing his testimony, Democrats said that the agency had “misled members” of Congress for eight years about the classified matters, which the letter did not disclose. “This is similar to other deceptions of which we are aware from other recent periods,” said the letter, made public late Wednesday by Representative Rush D. Holt, Democrat of New Jersey, one of the signers.

In an interview, Mr. Holt declined to reveal the nature of the C.I.A.’s alleged deceptions,. But he said, “We wouldn’t be doing this over a trivial matter.”

Just can’t make this stuff up. Panetta said there was no such deceiving in past discussions with Congress but now that the numbers are tanking and Obama is getting resistence, all of sudden, Bush lied people died reappears…..oh, you bet its coming. This is the ground work.

Meanwhile Pelosi has come out with the latest Democrat talking point. “Driving Republicans To Distraction,” and this nugget is delicious:

In a related development, President Obama threatened to veto the pending Intelligence Authorization Bill if it included a provision that would allow information about covert actions to be given to the entire House and Senate Intelligence Committees, rather than the so-called Gang of Eight — the Democratic and Republican leaders of both houses of Congress and the two Intelligence Committees.

Akron police say they aren’t ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation. But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.

It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend’s home in South Akron.

Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ”This is our world” and ”This is a black world” as they confronted Marshall and his family.

The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black.

”This was almost like being a terrorist act,” Marshall said. ”And we allow this to go on in our neighborhoods?”

They said it started when one teen, without any words or warning, blindsided and assaulted Marshall’s friend as he stood outside with the others. When Marshall, 39, jumped in, he found himself being attacked by the growing group of teens. His daughter, Rachel, 15, who weighs about 90 pounds, tried to come to his rescue. The teens pushed her to the ground. His wife, Yvonne, pushed their son, Donald, 14, into bushes to keep him protected.

I blame Bush. Obama will fix it. You just have to give him time. It’s a big mess that he inherited.

Only $57 billion spent and only 150,000 jobs created (meanwhile, we’ve lost millions more). That’s $380,000 per job. And you think government will make your healthcare more affordable?

In a release touting an agreement between Obama and President Dmitry Medvedev over how to craft a follow-up to the START arms reduction treaty, the White House claimed the document had been signed by one “Barak Obama.”

A record uptick in Rasmussen’s Presidential Approval Index portends disturbing news for the Hopey-Changey brigades. This is the first time that the index has gone so sharply negative.

Other trends in this latest polling round include:

• Fifty-four percent (54%) say the average Democrat in Congress is more liberal than they are, while 36% believe the average Republican congressman is more conservative.
• Among all voters, Republicans now have a three-point edge on the Generic Congressional Ballot.
• Just 27% of voters nationwide favor passage of a second economic stimulus package. Sixty percent (60%) are opposed.
• An early look at the 2012 race for the Republican nomination shows Mitt Romney at 25%, Sarah Palin at 24%, and Mike Huckabee at 22%. Forty percent (40%) of GOP voters say that Palin hurt her chances of winning the nomination by resigning as Alaska’s Governor last week.

Recent Gallup and Qunnipiac Polls Show Similar Downward Obama Trends

Gallup’s daily tracking poll for Obama approval also shows a record low of approval and record high disapproval.

Key findings in the Quinnipiac poll released July 2nd include:

• The number who disapprove of the job President Obama are doing has risen 8 points, to 33% from the March 4, 2009 survey while those who approve have dropped by 2% to 57%
• While the numbers who say Obama is doing better than expected or about expected remain steady, the number who say “worse than expected” has risen 5 points since March.
• Approval for the job Democrats are doing in Congress has dropped five point since March while those disapproving has risen by the same amount.
• Approval for the way Obama is handling the economy has dropped 5 points since March while disapproval has risen by 9.
• While the number who approve of Obama’s handling of foreign policy has remained relatively stationary at 55%, the number disapproving rose dramatically by 14% to 35%

Across the board it is becoming clear that Obama’s approval is slipping. It is at the point now where some who voted for him are now having regrets and expressing their disapproval. If current trends continue, Democrats will be in an extremely vulnerable position in 2010.

So where are the effigies of Obama being burned and hanged?

Jeh Johnson, the Defense Department’s chief lawyer, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that releasing a detainee who has been tried and found not guilty was a policy decision that officials would make based on their estimate of whether the prisoner posed a future threat.

Like the Bush administration, the Obama administration argues that the legal basis for indefinite detention of aliens it considers dangerous is separate from war-crimes prosecutions. Officials say that the laws of war allow indefinite detention to prevent aliens from committing warlike acts in future, while prosecution by military commission aims to punish them for war crimes committed in the past.

Johnson said such prisoners held without trial would receive “some form of periodic review” that could lead to their release.

As Dick Cheney said, Gitmo exists for a reason. That reason being the security of our country and the security of armed forces. The worst of the worst are housed there, and as Cheney stated in the above linked video, 12% of those released after careful review are back in the fight. Just look at the leader of the Taliban currently fighting our Marines….a Gitmo prisoner released in 2007:

A former Guantanamo Bay inmate is leading the fight against U.S. Marines in the Helmand province of Afghanistan, a senior U.S. defense official confirmed to FOX News on Tuesday.

Mullah Zakir, also known as Abdullah Ghulam Rasoul, surrendered in Mazar-e-Sharif in Northern Afghanistan in 2001, and was transferred to Gitmo in 2006. He was released in late 2007 to Afghan custody.

Now as the United States is pushing ahead with the massive Operation Khanjar in the southern province of Afghanistan, Zakir is coordinating the Taliban fighters. Some 4,000 U.S. Marines and hundreds of Afghan forces have faced some resistance as they sweep across the province, reclaiming control of districts where Zakir and his comrades were running a shadow government.

But now Obama and friends are in charge and their baseless attacks against Bush look foolish, and even worse…appear to have been done to gain power. Bush is evil, Bush is evil, Bush is evil……but now that Obama is the one doing it there is wisdom in the policies.

Hypocrites one and all.

Today, multiple papers are reporting a combined attack, and this time…it IS an outright attack on the United States-not a mere probe.

Official: N. Korea believed behind cyber attacks

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - South Korean intelligence officials believe North Korea or pro-Pyongyang forces in South Korea committed cyber attacks that paralyzed major South Korean and U.S. Web sites, a lawmaker’s aide said Wednesday.

The sites of 11 South Korean organizations including the presidential Blue House and the Defense Ministry went down or had access problems since late Tuesday, according to the state-run Korea Information Security Agency. Agency spokeswoman Ahn Jeong-eun said 11 U.S. sites suffered similar problems.

Governments hit by cyber attack

A widespread computer attack has hit several US government agencies while some South Korean government websites also appear to be affected.

The US Treasury Department, Secret Service, Federal Trade Commission and Transportation Department were all hit by the attack that started on July 4.

The attack slowed down and, in some cases, shut government websites, including the site of the presidential office, for several hours.

President Obama hasn’t commented on having his website shut down by the North Koreans, but one can expect yet another “stern warning” like the twelve warnings NKorea got after they fired missiles, launched an ICBM, tested a nuke, threatened the entire United Nations, and declared the half century armistice as over.

On a more serious note, this is clear evidence that North Korea, China, and Russia are working together closely-even while President Obama is actually IN RUSSIA.

Spies ‘infiltrate US power grid’

The WSJ reported that the intruders had not sought to damage the power grid or any other key infrastructure so far, but suggested they could change their approach in the event of a crisis or war.

Security watchers said that, if true, the involvement of the Chinese and Russians in such a scenario would show they were strategically thinking about how either to constrain the US or to inflict more damage if they felt a need to do so.

“I think that China recognises if in a very strategic sense you want to ensure you have the ability to exploit another country’s potential weakness or vulnerability, but do it in a way that isn’t confrontational or cause an international crisis, then this is a very good way of doing that,” Eric Rosenbach, of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government’s Belfer Center, told Reuters news agency.

The motives behind these potential attacks are undoubtedly military or political in nature, said Tim Mather, chief security strategist for the RSA Conference, the world’s biggest security event.

He told the BBC: “These countries are not doing this willy-nilly. There is a tactical reason for all of this and no doubt tied to a longer term strategic plan which is gosh if they need to jerk the chain of the US, then this is the way to do it.

“This is like having an ace in the hole for the Chinese or Russians, just in case,” said Mr Mather.

Shouldn’t the news media which is going ga-ga over Sarah Palin pay some attention to this?

Biden fails to draw crowd in Erie

Wattsburg, Pa. — Vice President Joe Biden visited a small town on the outskirts of Erie today to talk to rural folks about federal stimulus money that can be used to expand broadband access to the Internet for rural areas that typically have poor connections.

Apparently stimulus money and broadband are not all that interesting to the local folk here: Only around 100 or so people have showed up so far to hear Biden talk at noon at Seneca High School off Route 8 in Wattsburg.

The room looked so sparse that about 30 or so chairs were removed by volunteers to give the illusion of a full house.

The effect didn’t exactly work.
Pittsburgh native and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper are also on hand to talk about access to high speed internet as an essential tool for success in business and in school in our struggling economy.

The Vice President, the Secretary of Agriculture, a PA native, and the local Congresscritter and they couldn’t scare up more than 100 people? How many of those were from the news media?

Contrast the above with this:

More than 20,000 people turned out to see Palin lead a parade through downtown Auburn and sign a proclamation honoring Seward, the 19th-century Secretary of State who negotiated the $7.2 million deal with Russia for Alaska, which is celebrating its 50th year of statehood.

And the talking heads think Sarah Palin is washed up?
