Wanted to share some bouquet pics from a wedding I did the weekend before last in my hometown of Manhattan Beach. Camila was a beautiful bride, and it was such a pleasure to do flowers for a wedding that took place at not one but two of my local haunts: my own church, American Martyrs, and the Shade Hotel, where I’ve had many a drink with the girls! I also got to work with an amazing coordinator, Emilia of Sweet Emilia Jane.

The full professional shebang will follow – excellent wedding photographer Susan Dean shot this one – but before I left the house I snapped some bouquet shots.

This bouquet contained Carmel Antike Garden Roses, Festiva Max Peonies, Lily of the Valley, Peachy yellow Ranunculus, Peach Stock, White Sweet Peas, White Anemones, and Succulents

After we delivered the personals last Sunday, it was on to decorate the wedding arbor at the venue! In keeping with the romantic, storybook type of look that Lauren envisioned for her wedding, we had decided to go with an organic but very classic, pink look – to keep it economical, we covered much of the arbor in curly willow branches, and used little pops of bright flowers rather than a solid cover.

I used another great Save-On-Crafts find in this design – their Grapevine Chandelier. At $20, this thing was easy to decorate, can be reused, and added a big impact to the ceremony site! Here is the site semi set up. For any potential DIY’ers reading, read on – I am happy to share the basic how to for a design like this and will weave it into the post- it’s intimidating the first time you have to estimate the quantities / supplies you will need, but not difficult to execute.

This arbor was about 6′ 7″ tall, and about 8′ wide. Just two of the very tallest curly willow branches available (which are 5 – 6′ each) were enough to decorate each side of the arbor. They really branch out at the top! They are easy to secure using bind wire like this – it’s wired twine and very easy to tie (also matches the color of the branches, unlike something like zip ties that are also great to use to secure flowers to arches, but need to be concealed).

The pops of flowers are made with two sizes of Oasis iglu cages – grande and small. Each has a few stems of Pink Majolika spray roses in them, with varigated Pittosporum, white waxflower, and white hydrangea (touches of amaranthus were added later). Those were secured to the arbor with chenille stems because they were relatively light – for anything heavier, I’d use cable ties, heavy gauge wire, etc.

I also used Pearl garland that I got at Save-On-Crafts for this design!

Additional curly willow was added across the top of the arbor – we wanted tips facing each way, not all one direction, so we used eight smaller (4′) branches, four on each side and two facing each way, and bind wired them on in the same way.

The arbor definitely came to life with the gorgeous wedding couple in front of it in the pro pics:

Yesterday it was my honor to create the flowers for Randy and Lauren’s wedding at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, CA. I had never been to the venue before, and it’s absolutely beautiful! The ceremony lawn is right on the bay, and the grounds are lovely – with so much in bloom, Mr. Floret Cadet and I were joking that we could have just brought clippers and sourced all of the flowers from the venue’s grounds and done the whole wedding on site!

Lauren was going for a super romantic, classic look for her wedding flowers – heavy on roses, pink and ivory. I ordered more of one single flower type (roses) than I ever have before! I used sweet avalanche as the primary pink rose, and loved them, and also worked in a lot of pink majolica spray roses, ivory roses, and for Lauren’s bouquet, my beloved Juliet garden roses. I also used Lizzy carnations again this time – I just LOVE their color. In the bridesmaid bouquets, they almost look camel colored -really neutral, but in pinker or peacher designs, the peach really pops out. They’re just so pretty!

Here are some shots of the bridesmaid bouquets – they were wearing blush pink dresses, so we kept these pretty de-saturated- I love the delicate texture of the rice flower!

All packed up and ready to leave the house (along with an all Lizzy carnation toss bouquet – an economical and beautiful option!)

For the bridal bouquet, I used more saturated pink, peach, and ivory tones. Included in this bouquet are: Juliet Garden Roses, White Fringed Tulips, Libretto Parrot Tulips, Lizzy Carnations, Sweet Avalanche Roses, and Allium Neopolitanum.

The handle was tricky for me to photograph at home, but sort of an ivory to pink Ombre effect created with wide translucent Organza:
