I hope Everyone Had A Great Christmas and And A Even Better Beginning To The New Year.

I know it is a lot to look over but the in depth 2011 rates are located here Go Fish Charters Tarpon Fishing And Back Country Fishing Rates. There are some interesting changes that my regular clints will want to look over, as well as enticing to those who have inquired and not booked yet.

Outlook and Forecast For 2011 Fishing Season

Now to my favorite subject; and as every one who knows and fishes with me the most exciting, Tarpon Fishing. I expect another action filled season with large numbers of giant tarpon. The forecast looks good based on previous years catches, and with the lack of red tide and no major water quality issues, I have personally seen more and bigger fish coming to my boat. I would like some input form my regular clients on how they thought the season went, given the fact that I did no jig fishing in 2010. I really would like to know your thoughts and you can do so here at a special email I set up to accept your input, input@gofishcharters.com If you are not a regular client and fished with me or inquired please feel free to leave you input as well

My thoughts where the catch ratio was better the landing percentages where higher and the trips where overall more fun and pleasant not mixing it up in the pass with the jig fleet. Please take the time to give me your thoughts they are important to me. Also again please take note to the rate schedule I added a whole host of available trips. the rates can also be found here gofishcharters.com/rates

January 1st was the fist day of the year as well as the first day of opening sea trout season after the two month closure. Trout fishing in the winter time is a staple fishery here for me, since adding the Shallow running 22 foot winter boat to my fishing arsenal. Most of the trout fishing I am doing now consist of high double digit catches with some exceptional days in triple digits. I also manage to catch a good number of redfish on these trips, and with the open season on trout this makes for a good bag of cleaned fish for the dinner table.

The redfish fishing should continue to improve as we continue into the winter months. The negative tides and lack of white bait forces the reds to forage more on the shallower glass flats making sight fishing a good proposition. Also these negative tides will push these fish into pot holes only accessible by the shallowest of boats. This is where my Shallow Sport comes into play, allowing me to access water that very few can. For those of you have fished in it, you know that this boat needs very little water to run in and truly runs shallower that any boat I have ever seen or owned.

The snook closure remains in effect and will continue to be a catch and release fishery until there is word from the State that their recovery is

sufficient. 2009 was the best snook fishing I had experienced in quite some time, but the cold winter of 2010 took its toll. I have seen encouraging numbers of large breeder snook, and of course nature has a way of producing stronger stocks form survivors, so I look forward to seeing more snook in the future.

Fishing Fort Myers

Boca Grande to Fort Myers Florida Fishing Summer Outlook
The April-July tarpon fishing season was awesome. Tarpon should stay here in good numbers through out the summer. The snook fishing reports have been better. The redfish are starting to school up and will continue through the summer and in to the fall. Mangrove snapper will move on to the flats, along with some decent grouper in the passes. Late Summer fishing in the Boca Grande and Fort Myers area should continue to be on par, with some spectacular late tarpon fishing leading the way.

Tarpon Fishing
GOT TARPON! The spawning season for tarpon may be over, but the summer season is just starting, from Charlotte Harbor to Fort Myers Florida, the summer tarpon fishing will be at its best. I always have my best tarpon fishing days in the summer, look for tarpon in Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound and on the beaches, all the way to Fort Myers and throughout Southwest Florida. The fact that we have had no oil in our area and with oil north of here it is affecting the migration of tarpon and sending them back in the area THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS WILL BE AWESOME

Snook Fishing
Snook fishing despite the cold weather affects from earlier this year is very good and August-October should continue. Snook feed well during the spawn and the catch and release action has been really good with plenty of large Snook. These fish stage in areas close to the passes and are excited to see a live wells full of bait. The night time snook fishing around the lighted docks in Punta Gorda, Ft. Myers, Boca Grande Gasparilla to Sanibel and Captiva will have fantastic snook action and the night time temps are more fishing friendly to the anglers. Snook are still catch and release through September 1st as we wait to see if the State will reopen the harvest.

Redfish Fishing
Redfish fishing will heat up as late summer and early fall approach. The redfish will start to school up as they begin their annual spawn. Beginning in August and lasting well into October. Look for redfish to be on the outside of the bars where larger fish are maturing and venturing off into deeper water. Pinfish and sardines are key to success along with cut bait. Chumming well know areas on rising tides well activate these schools into a feeding frenzy where non stop action can be experienced. A tale-tale sign of this spawning occurrence is the shorter days leading into early fall.

Mangrove Snapper and Grouper
The near shore fishing action should pick up especially for mangrove snapper and grouper. Mangrove snapper will be found on the flats and in the passes. Fishing the Boca Grande and Captiva passes will no doubt reward the angler with a limit for the table. Light tackle and fluorocarbon leader is a must. The gag grouper in the keeper range will also be available and will require bigger tackle than the snapper.

Fall Tarpon Fishing And Schooling Redfish

After another very successful Tarpon Season I would like to thank everyone that fished with me this year. I work very hard to achieve a level of ability that stands out in my business and to be successful at achieving the goal of catching fish for my clients. For those who where unable to get on my book this year I would like to extend an invitation to consider my services in the future. As many of you know it is never to early to book for Tarpon Fishing. I would also like everyone to take note that the 10 hour split trip was very popular and most of my trips where the 10 hour charter. However most everyone who booked this trip asked for extended time so take notice to the additional All Day Tarpon Charter trip this upcoming season.

Redfish starting schooling a few weeks ago and this is the best time of the year to catch good numbers of “bull” redfish. These over sized reds are moving though the passes and schooling on the nearby grass flats. Any outside grass flat near the passes can hold a school of redfish this time of year. I’ve been mostly fishing the bars in Charlotte Harbor but Pine Island Sound and Lemon Bay are also holding good schools of redfish.

Even though the fishing charters are pretty slow right now I have been doing quite a bit of fishing to stay with the fall tarpon migration. The tarpon are following the bait schools and feed heavily to fuel their migration for the winter. Most of these tarpon are very large averaging over 100 pounds. I have been doing well with a variety of artificial lure and live baits. Live ladyfish and sardines hooking the most tarpon; with spoons, jigs and soft plastic swim baits producing as well. There are a number a locations that have been holding tarpon. Look for bait schools on the beaches outside of Boca Grande Pass, Captiva Island and Fort Myers Beach. You can also run into groups of migrating tarpon in the bays.

Fort Myers Fishing Forcast: The tarpon fishing is just about over. We may have no more than 2-3 weeks of good tarpon fishing before its over for the winter. Fishing for bull redfish should remain strong for the rest of the fall. The large schools of redfish should be around into early November. After that its mostly singles and small groups.

Flats Fishing And Back County Charters

During the winter I my run 22 foot Texas Shallow Sport fishing machine. This dry stable fishing platform allow me to access the shallowest of flats. As the winter months progress in to negative tides and extremely shallow flats where trout and reds are trapped in pot holes I have the right boat to access these areas, and score days where triple digit fish numbers are the norm. I am ah expert in the use of artificial lures. The majority of fishing from November to March is done with artificial lures. I have found that artificial lures out produce live bait during these months. This insures you are not dealing with long waits at the dock or cancellations due to the lack of or limited bait.

I also own a high end 24 foot bay bay boat for dry and comfortable Tarpon Fishing and near shore charters. Equipped with 4 stoke out board and state of the art electronics, including hi def and side and down scan imaging. I keep up to date tackle From Penn, G Loomis, Accurate Reels and American Rod Smith. I have both earned a reputation in the industry as proven veteran fishing guide with results. An extensive amount of information can be easily searched online or references provided on request, assuring
you are hiring a top full guide.

Fort Myers Fishing Fort Myers Fishing Charters

Boca Grande to Fort Myers Florida Fishing Summer Outlook
The fishing has been good on some days and not so good on others depends on which way the wind is coming from and anything with North in it is not good for me. Trout and redfish have been the main stays on my boat and on days that with light winds we put up good numbers on trout with some mixed in redfish. On the days prior to the never ending cold fronts with Southwest winds and higher tides I put up good numbers of redfish. And as earlier stated days with North winds I have struggled. The bait fish began to show up a few weeks ago but with low water temps I am still fishing mostly lures and jigs. This coming week I while begin looking for some early schooling tarpon, most of April for me is spent tarpon fishing but weather is and will always remain the deciding factor. The drought that has been plaguing Florida for the last few years seems to be diminishing, and we have been receiving quite a bit of rain. This is good news for the tarpon fishing as I suspect the crabs and harbor shrimp should begin to return to normal.

Mackerel began showing in the harbor as well as off the beach and the King Mackerel are being caught just south of here so hopefully this is a good indication that spring is finally here. The rest of this week should see temps in the lower 80s so a return to normal patterns is immerge. Tarpon should be close behind and I will being fishing for them this week. I still have some availability for the season but it is limited, this year season should be a good one.

A couple of redfish caught on a recent trip, the 2 reds together scored just over 15 lbs with one being 26 3/4 inch 8lb.
Tarpon Fishing Charter Service You Can Hire.
It's true. There are many websites and guides on the internet where people you've never met (and never will) compete to be the cheapest. It's an obsession actually, with one guide outdoing the other to offer his service cheaper or for even a dollar less than anyone else. I don't do that, and here's why.

To be the cheapest, you have to offer the cheapest service. This might seem obvious, but think about it for a second. We all need to make some profit on every charter. If we didn't, we wouldn't be doing this. Instead, I focus on offering a higher quality charter, to the my anglers for a fair price.
TARPON FISHING DAILY APRIL-JULY
Planning a trip for a Boca Grande tarpon fishing charter! I do two tarpon fishing trips daily May-July. These months are highly sought after, and tarpon trips book up early. Tarpon fishing has gained in popularity over the past several years, as anglers see tarpon fishing shows on TV like the Professional Tarpon Tournament Series, PTTS, and Tarpon Of Boca Grande. With such national coverage of the Boca Grande tarpon fishing phenomenon more anglers are planning their entire Florida fishing trips around Boca Grande tarpon season. I offer two 6-hour Tarpon fishing charters per day, one in the morning and one in the early afternoon. I fish the entire tarpon season every day, every year, along side some of the best guides in the business, guides like my self that can produce consistently and put their clients on tarpon day in and day out. So before you make a decision on a tarpon guide do some homework. I want to make sure you catch the tarpon of a lifetime whether or not its with me.
The red fishing is all but non existent with very limited numbers of redfish to be found. Trout fishing has been great with 60-100 fish days not unusual. Tarpon were scarcely available early in the month, and with two major cold fronts past and one lingering, I can say that most if not all giant tarpon will be hard to come by until spring.

I have been booking a few new clients for tarpon season 2010. I expect with the amount of inquiries that after the holidays everyone will be getting their plans together since the majority of trips are booked over the next 6-8 weeks. Also in the my newsletter I made everyone aware of a new custom charter that is available for the upcoming tarpon season, if you did not see it I will be sending out another shortly. Newsletters are sent about 7-8 times per year to keep everyone up to date with the fishing in the area.

I hope everyone had a Great Thanksgiving as did I it was spent in the Mountains of North Carolina with my lovely wife Tammy and son Trevor at our camp. Most of the usual hangouts have been filled up with all size ranges including slot and over slot size snook. Live bait chumming has been easy with an abundance of perfect size bait through out Charlotte Harbor. Red fishing as been scattered at best and when you happened to find a school of reds it takes a short amount of time before every passing boat stops. Seems the new method of fishing in Florida is the bent rod method, see a bent rod stop and fish. I guess I am crazy I believe in the old tried and true method put in you home work and scout an area to locate fish and respect what others on the water are doing. driving up to a anchored boat on a bar that is fishing scares the fish away and not only takes away any chance of success it ruins it for the person that was already their.

Boca Grande and the pass seen some great snapper action as all summer for those looking for a good dinner. There was also some fast action on Bonita schools for anyone looking to bend a rod. The tarpon where also available when you but their pattern together and timed your trip correctly. Along with some nice early kingfish action in the 30-40lb range Boca Grande Pass as usual gave its best in Early October.

The unusual early arrival of cold weather in the area should push the king fish further south and the grouper closer in. The redfish should continue to school up for the next few weeks and trout fish should begin to improve. Snook fishing should also continue as they are migrating back to winter hang outs. The winter tides should begin empting some flats that have been fished all summer and make them less accessible to the average boater. This year I have added a extremely shallow running skiff to my business and I am looking forward to fishing the winter negative tides. A rigged a 21.5′ Texas Shallow Spot with a 150 four stroke engine for quite reliability and a tall tower for sight, and have increased my flats fishing ability 10 fold.

The new boat allows ample room for a max of 4 anglers and can access some of the shallowest water you have ever fished in. This will be a plus as the water temps drop and fish seek out shallow flats to warm up in the winter. If you would like to see some fishing grounds that you have never seen call me and get on my book for some exciting shallow water winter fishing.

Capt Andy Boyette
1-888-880-0006
www.gofishcharters.com
www.tarponcharters.com

Tarpon Fishing Is Still On

Well it as been sometime since I wrote a fishing report. If you look back over the years I have reported you will notice that my reports drop off in the summer. Reason because I am busy catching tarpon. For the past 6-7years I have been booked solid for the peak season April, May, June, July. By this time of the year I begin to slow down and get some down time.

I am still fishing and yes tarpon is still on the menu. I have had several days this week with as many as 6 tarpon over 150lbs tarpon. The Season Is Not Over. The flip side to that is you can get burned by the weather or just the fact the fish will not cooperate. This season has and continues to be the most difficult season of my 10+ year guiding career. With so many issues to deal with in the tarpon game, from the largest Shark population I have ever seen to, the dreaded beach renourishment on Boca Grande, that as about 70% washed away, causing a silt water quality problem, compounded by the never ending winds. My season was filled with really great days to some just plain old bad days, with almost no day to day consistency. Plenty of tarpon to catch all season just no rhyme or reason why one day was good and one day was bad. But hey, tarpon are prehistoric so if you put it into there perspective and the amount of time they have swam the ocean, maybe the last 10 years of my career was not normal and this year is the norm. Who knows but I will never quit chasing them I love it to much.

I will be continuing to fish for tarpon as long as they are available, but am beginning to migrate back on to the flats where the redfish schools are beginning to show up. Also the snook fishing was the best this year I seen in a long time and should continue. I have openings in August if you want to catch a tarpon call me cause no matter what any body else says they are still available. I have also been booking some snook trips for September when the season opens as well as some fall kingfish trips in October, but I have plenty of openings.
Live threadfins under a float drifted through the area will produce. Avoid running through the area with the big motor, use the trolling motor or upwind drift approach. If you use the big motor wait until you are well away from your fishing area and idle a big circle to come back into position.

Red fishing is good with scattered fish under the bushes at high tides. I prefer artificial jerk baits skipped way back in the cuts of the overhangs slow retrieve with twitching action. For live bait shrimp is best free lined and tail hooked. Look for these fish to start schooling up as August approaches.

Snook fishing is still good near the beaches and passes. White bait is best and is still available around the harbor. Some of these fish are still spawning so the season will remain closed until Mid August, and the fish should have at that time started there migration pattern back to the flats and back country. This is being experienced now with some of the fish that have spawned out.

We usually mix the trips up this time of year and target tarpon early morning snook and redfish later in the day. So the chances of a Charlotte harbor slam are pretty good, and if you happen to get a trout than you have the coveted Grand Slam.

Good Things Come To Those With Bait

Capt Andy Boyette
www.gofishcharters.com
www.tarponcharters.com

Toll Free 1-888-880-0006

Tarpon Fishing Heating Up

Tarpon Fishing has been on now for about the past 3 weeks in the Boca Grande area. Although the weather has been less than cooperative to say the least. I have fished further up Charlotte Harbor over the past few weeks than at any time in my career. With several days spent about 15 miles up river. The technique has been to locate free jumping tarpon and set up long drifts in the area. Typically finding the bait pods and birds and putting that together with a free jumper would result in a couple of bites per day. Believe me when I tell you it takes a lot of mental fortitude to fish all day for 1 or 2 bites. There has been a big school of tarpon numbering about 5000 that have been moving in and out of the pass. A combination of factors including bull sharks, gin clear water, low water temps and untypical weather, have contributed to these tarpon not holding long in the Boca Grande Pass. However like magic these fish will get in there and stay and that could happen any day including tomorrow.

I have a couple of openings left in May and a Couple left in June so if you want to go tarpon fishing call me, and I will give you the short list of available dates.

Snook fishing this spring from Fort Myers, Pine Island, and into Charlotte Harbor was off the charts. This was the best fishing I have seen in at least 7 years. I had several days that felt like I was in a time warp and fishing back in the 80's. There was one day particularly where I spent a good 2 hours with a couple of clients who stayed doubled up on snook. We caught 12 fish over 10 pounds and another 20 or so inside the slot, with not one undersized fish. The best thing about that day was fishing a spot I had never fished in my life because of all the boats in the area and the late start I got with my clients. Moral to the story sometimes you should take the blinders off and take a look around instead of just running straight to your favorite fishing spot. These snook where obviously migrating to the passes and we chanced up on them in a pothole on an island.

Look for me to be tarpon fishing only for the next 3-4 months, and for everyone who is interested tarpon fishing continues well into the summer months when the tarpon move back into the harbor and feed until the first hint of winter. Some of the best tarpon fishing of the year is July-September

Capt Andy Boyette
1-888-880-0006
www.gofishcharters.com
www.tarponcharters.com

Tarpon Fishing Video 2008

This year's tarpon tournament fishing season was better than ever with the formation of Team TarponCharters.com. An unusual cast of characters consisting of Capt Andy along with 2 Doctors and the owner of a landscape maintenance company.
New this year was Dr Grant McDougall who owns is own pratice in Gainesville as a Physiologist, and Ralph Enzor owner of MRT Of Southwest Florida, a prominent lawn and landscape maintenance company operating out of Port Charlotte. Rounding out the team is 3-season team veteran Dr. Dan Moenning, owner and Doctor At Harborside Dental Associates of Punta Gorda.
This new team hit the PTTS with a storm weighing tarpon in 3 of the 6 tournaments for a total weight of 453 pounds. Topping out that weight was a monster 187 pound tarpon caught with just 5 minutes left in the 5th and final tournament of the series. Team TarponCharters.com also leadered numerous fish for points in every tournament for the Yamaha Team Of The Year Points Race , and finished 4th overall. With less than the points for one leader release separating the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers; the two tournaments where TarponCharters.com was bumped out of the points award and only achieved 6th place finishes, kept them out of 2nd place and possibly 1st in overall points.
Capt Andy Boyette
1-888-880-0006

http://www.gofishcharters.com/

http://www.tarponcharters.com/

However the pattern has been different than years past. The tarpon have staged in slightly different areas and established different lanes of movement. This pattern has caused confusion among some anglers who are targeting theses tarpon and setting up previous patterns or target sites. The tarpon seem to have moved from high traffic areas to less likely areas so if you are willing to search for tarpon rather than boats success has been greater. Most of the tarpon caught on morning trips have been in the 130-180 range with some 200 lb tarpon in the mix. Afternoon Boca Grande tarpon trips have seen tarpon in the 90-130 range with some larger fish mixed in.
The bait population in the Boca Grande area is the largest I have seen and tarpon should hold for quite some time. The July month will be a better than normal based on the pattern I see and should continue well in to the late fall tarpon run. Boca Grande will continue to hold true to the label of Tarpon Capitol Of the World and fish should be caught in good numbers for the coming months. Charlotte Harbor is playing host to several nice schools, as is Pine Island Sound. The little passes Captiva, Redfish, and Gasprillia are also holding some good fish. The crabs have flushed on some tides and fishing in the late afternoon with crabs has been good early. The crowds in Boca Grande Pass are growing to usual numbers and exceeded 200 last Saturday. Tarpon fishing will continue to be good through June and well into July. After a quick trip offshore to spawn tarpon fishing should pickup for the fall late season and last through September. Last year we experienced large numbers of tarpon in Boca Grande in December. My May and June schedule is almost full with only a few dates left in June. I have plenty of room in July and August, some of the years best fishing for tarpon can occur during these months, and the crowds are gone as well. Please contact me at my toll free number or visit my sites to book a fishing charter.
Capt Andy Boyette
http://www.gofishcharters.com/
http://www.tarponcharters.com/
1-888-880-0006

Tarpon Fishing Is On Fire

Tarpon fishing is on fire, I have been tarpon fishing now for over 3 weeks with good numbers of fish early in the month of April. The harbor bite went off first and myself and Capt Scott Hughes enjoyed a nice school of tarpon ranging from about 120lbs to over 180lbs. These tarpon where hungry and we had several days where 10 to 15 fish where hooked and several landed on my boat. Capt Scott and me agreed not to tell anyone and we where able to fish for well over a week just the two of us. On Thursday 4 days prior to the cold we where discovered and by Saturday 25 boats showed up.
The fishing shut down for a few days during the front and the fishing slacked, but as soon as the water warmed up tarpon hit the Boca Grande Pass and have been chewing. The full moon sent the crabs flushing and a short hill tide was experienced. Any crabs that where cast hooked a fish.
As of this week the tarpon have moved into the Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound, Boca Grande Pass and just about every where but the beach. Remember to respect others when fishing in areas where other boats are because most people are looking for the tarpon bite and approaching them in the wrong manner does not make friends

Availability is limited on my boat for May with only a few afternoons scattered, June still has some empty slots but I expect it to fill as well. If you are planning to fish with me give me a call and lets put something together, tarpon is my passion and to date for the season we have boated over 30 tarpon all over a 120 pounds with the biggest at about 200 as you can seee in the photo above.
Capt Andy Boyette
1-888-880-0006
http://www.tarponcharters.com/

Tarpon Fishing Continues

Tarpon have continued well into July with the only variable being the weather. Heavy rains that backed up in Charlotte Harbor made tide changes and currents more difficult to predict. The tarpon fishing becomes very tidal at this time of the year with most of these fish moving from inshore to off shore as the tide comes and goes. Fishing for tarpon has been a lot like turkey hunting you see them in an area and you move in and set up and with a little luck you get a few shots. Then you move to the next area stage up and wait for another couple of shots. Most of the trips I done early in July where hit or miss the fish where there but not very cooperative the opportunities where far and few between and those who capitalized on a opportunity had success.
The upcoming month of August should be much better as the morning rains and afternoon showers will be less numerous and weather patterns will stabilize. Boca Grande and specifically Charlotte Harbor will continue to host large schools of tarpon for those anglers looking to score a late season tarpon on light spinning tackle or possibly a fly. I personally continue to fish for tarpon well into September with great success. This style of fishing truly is more like hunting since these fish will move on a daily basics and stalking them requires a level of skill acquired through patience and virtue.
Redfish should also begin to school up in some well known traditional community holes. Snook are still on the beaches and the mangrove snapper fishing will be good in and around the docks and bridges and canals. Look for a good run of mackerel with all the bait that is in the area and a very healthy fall fishing season.
For Charter and other information please visit my website send me a email or call me on the phone.
Capt Andy Boyette 1-888-880-0006 http://www.tarponcharters.comhttp://www.gofishcharters.com

Tarpon Fishing Looking Good

Over the last few days Tarpon have began showing up in Boca Grande Pass in fishable numbers. The threadfin herring have started filling the harbor, and as long as the weather holds fishing for these giants will become more steady. Last week we experienced a couple of cold days that shut the fishing down, with one of my trips being a total bust. But by mid week the temp's rose into the mid 80's and water temp's stabilized.
The snook fishing picked back up as did the red fishing along with king fish in the 30lb class mixed in with Tarpon in Boca Grande. I expect to see these tarpon move up into the harbor any day now where fishing will become more stable. As April progresses the tarpon population will grow into numbers in the thousands, and as May approaches the gathering in the Pass should be at peak and continue into June.
As many of you who have fished here over the past few years, you know we have had crippling weather, so lets all keep our fingers crossed. I expect a good season that again will last well into the fall.
I will be adding more pictures to the new photo gallery and would like to encourage you to look through them. These are pictures with clients from over the years. You can register at the site and download your pictures and make comments about them. At present there are about 70 photos by the end of the month there should be about 300-400. You can find them here http://gofishcharters.com/photos/
I look forward to seeing many of you again over the next several months as well as meeting some new faces, and if you have not already booked I still have some availability mostly in June

Pine Island Sound And The Big Pass

Prior to the cold front that past by first of the week where temps dropped into the 40s Pine Island Sound was stating to show some decent action with Snook and Trout with the occasional Redfish. Bait fish was making a good showing but unlike the past few years it is not in the usual spots. Tarpon began showing in small numbers on the beaches and I have heard from other guides they have been catching a couple a week. I went in to the big Pass today and marked a handful of tarpon and there where several boats drifting live bait. Bull and Turtle Bay have been fairly reliable with a mixed bag, but I struggled to put fish in the boat today. Several of the trout we caught did not even fight, indicating that the cold must have affected them more than I thought. Upper Charlotte Harbor has a steady supply of bait in and around the two bridges. Snook fishing continues to be good in the rivers and canals, and I expect until we get a week or longer of warm days they will be in no hurry to leave.I have been steady booking tarpon trips and have very limited availability for May. I stll have openings in June so if you are planning a tarpon trip this year you should be getting your plans together. I expect another phenomenal season

-->

Pine Island and Chartotte Harbor Fishing

Spring like weather patterns continue, with the mildest winter I can remember in recent history. Red fish fishing is not as good as it should be with reds being a hit or miss, however big redfish are showing in the potholes. The slot-sized reds are harder to find and not in good numbers. Cut bait and scented plastic are still the best. Snook season opened and some slot fish are being taken in the upper Myaka as well as the Peace River. Smaller snook are more abundant on the flats and deeper cuts. Trout fishing is pretty hot with plenty of gator trout mixed with slot size, a good day well consist of 30-50 fish. Non-stop action can be found drifting and casting 1/8-1/4 ounce jigs with jerk baits or gulp shrimp.

Grouper fishing continues to be good close to shore as well as the snapper. Drifting cut or live bait will take home plenty of dinner. I also hear a lot of success trolling plugs near good bottom or structure. Interesting fact the there could be new regulations on the horizon for offshore fishing so it is a good idea to get involved and be vocal on your position. If not no complaining when the season is closed for half the year like is being proposed.

As always tarpon fishing is a subject I bring up. With the tarpon that where being caught in December and the amount of tarpon up the rivers now, the upcoming season I expect to be phenomenal. I have been booking steady and have more on the books at this time than any other year in the past; I hear the same from many other veteran tarpon guides, I still have a lot of room on my book, but at the pace I am booking, timing will become an issue if you are planning to fish with me. I have stressed this in the past and this year is no exception good tarpon guides book up early and become very limited. So if you are thinking about fishing there is no better time than now. It allows you to secure the date that works best for you.

Capt Andy Boyette

1-888-880-0006

Florida Fishing Report

The New Year and winter arrived at the same time with mid 20 degree low temps and highs only in the 50’s. Water temptures fell quickly by more than 15-20 degrees in less than 24 hours. There where numerous areas that snook got caught off guard and small juvenile to mature snook where killed by the freeze. Fishing fell off as fast as the temptures and has only recently picked back up.

Redfish are starting to move back on to the flats after quickly fleeing the cold weather. Live shrimp and cut bait will work in the potholes on deeper flats. Trout are holding in good numbers in 4-6 feet with 1/8-1/4 ounce jig heads with scented plastics worked slow and on the bottom. Snook that escaped the cold are hold up in the rivers and canals and will readily take a live shrimp free lined.

The grouper and snapper bite is on fire off shore and is the best prior to a front or just after. Ledges and wrecks in the 80-foot range will give up a limit in a short time. Make sure to take frozen baits and a mixture of live baits. These fish change mood and can be seriously frustrating not to have live bait when they want or frozen if that is the case. A lot of times you can turn the bite back on by switching between the two.

Tarpon fishing is getting closer and I have been booking trips for the prime season with regular clients as well as some new clients. I expect to have another banner season since the harbor is still full of bait despite the recent freeze.

Capt Andy Boyette

1-888-880-0006

Late Season Tarpon Fishing

Tarpon in Charlotte Harbor, King Fish near the beach, Redfish tailing in Pine Island Sound, Snook moving up the rivers. The Florida weather as been picture perfect making fishing as hot as it gets this time of year with a variety of options. Tarpon near the 41 bridge in target able numbers last week moved in to Boca Grande Pass for a late season bite if you where lucky enough to be in the right spot at the right time.

King Fish are in good numbers close to the beach and on near shore wrecks and can be caught with blue runners and other live baits. We hauled 25 stretch magnums this weekend in 50 foot of water and scored several nice kings in the 25-30lb range with smaller school fish mixed in.

The Picture perfect skies and light wind coupled with extreme low tides produced great tailing redfish throughout Pine Island Sound. With shrimp and soft plastic jerk baits taking numerous fish in the slot and plenty of oversize redfish mixed in.

Snook fishing is good close to the river mouths as t these fish move back in to winter grounds. Dock fishing and deep-water cuts are holding good numbers of fish. The bait at the mouth of the rivers is phenomenal and will help fatten up these fish for the upcoming months.

Capt Andy Boyette

Toll Free 1-888-880-0006

Florida Tarpon Fishing Report Pine Island Sound

With the first cold front that passed and the shorter days the water temps are climbing down and snook know to fatten up for the winter when during cold fronts they will lay up for days with out eating. Snook are being taken in good numbers all across Charlotte Harbor with slot size fish being the normal. Redfish should be on the move towards winter flats where on a sunny day after a cool morning you will be able to find them tailing for food and warming up in the sun. Kingfish are still being caught close to shore along with grouper snapper and a few cobia.

I fished an extreem low tide yesterday for tailing redfish in Pine Island Sound. The day was less than banner but there where redfish tailing in four areas. Me and Capt Scott Hughes caught two fish to the boat, cast at numerous fish with no reaction, missed numerous hooksets, and pulled the hook on the last fish at the boat before landing what looked to be a top slot redfish. If It had been a tournment day we would have scored but not likely in the top total weight about nine pounds.

Tarpon Fishing Charters are starting to book now and some of my regular clients are picking some of the prime dates. Since there are two charters per day there is still plenty of dates to chose from. Snook fishing continues to be excellent with fish on the feed and fattening up for the winter. Slot size fish will readily take live bait and soft plastics as well as various top water baits. My favorites include the the skitter walk Rapala early in the morning and on cloudy days like we have seen for the past few days. With the fast early morning incoming tides we have had snook have stationed up on island points and deep water cuts adjacent to shallow water flat. A weed less jerk bait tossed in to the shallow water and worked back towards the deep water will pickup snook waiting for a meal to get washed into the deep water. The key is to present the bait in front of the snook not from behind.

Redfish are broken up into smaller groups and working the bushes on the high tide and picking up singles is the best bet. A jig head in the 1/8 ounce with a shrimp imitation or jerk bait will be easy to skip under the bushes. after making a good cats let it settle before twitching and than quick jerk until the bait is out of the target zone. Work every edge nook and cranny of the shore line and make several tosses into the same spot some times red fish will readjust after your first cats and be able to see you bait when they couldn't before.

King fish are definitely in the area and should hold well into November. Trolling always works but with fuel prices on the rise again you may want to catch bait and anchor and shut down the big motor. If you know fish are in the area and or you are in a traditional spot, once on anchor create a chum slick with menhaden oil and an occasional scoop of live or chunk bait and the fish will come to you. You have two options here the one being fly or just free line the baits a, a plus to this style of fishing is while you are waiting you can usually catch snapper and grouper if you anchor in the right spot.

As always tarpon fishing is always on my mind and the season will be here sooner than you think. I have been booking trips already and at this time have done so at the same rate as last year. I bring this up because I heard stories form clients on my boat that after booking with other guides at their given rate they found out later that there was a fuel surcharge. I personally don't believe in this practice so all trips booked will be at the rate at the time of booking regardless of the price of fuel next year, the rate you book at will be the rate. Hopefully the price of fuel will remain steady and there will be no reason to raise my rate.

Fishing Report

Kingfish should be making the fall showing and should be in the area through this month as well as most of next month. Mangrove snapper has been a good staple on most trips, with 20 inch and larger fish being taken. Grouper should start to move in closer as the days get shorter and the water temps begin to cool down.
I have already begun to book my 2008 tarpon season with regular clients as well as some new inquiries. Just to remind everyone May and June are prime months, and have received a lot of TV coverage over the past several years. This has had a positive affect on booking. It also seems that people are booking earlier every year.
I have also acquired an online travel agency to assist clients in making travel arraignments. A full service-booking agency for airline, hotel, car rentals, cruises and any other travel or vacation packages, for all your needs.
