Yes, Florida actually has AWARD winning wineries on vineyard grounds! Are you as excited as I am? As a wine enthusiast from the Daytona Beach, FL area, I have been to the well established award winning San Sebastian Winery in St. Augustine, Florida. For some reason I have been under the impression they were the only Florida winery.

Since I have discovered otherwise, I MUST spread the word! Here is a snapshot of history…The Florida Grape Gowers Association (FGGA) was established in 1923. According to their site they were formed to ”serve farmers and hobbyists interested in growing grapes in Florida. Organized as a nonprofit corporation, the FGGA was instrumental in sponsoring research to develop grapes adapted to conditions in Florida.”

Known primarily for its proximity to Orlando's major theme parks, Kissimmee, Florida is a mid size city with a small town feel. In fact, visitors to the charming city often have a hard time believing that it is in heart of one of the most popular tourist spots in the country-the Orlando metropolitan area.

Located just south of Orlando and the 192 Highway, for the residents of this laid back city, Kissimmee is a quiet island in a sea of activity.

But for vacationers who are intent on seeing the sites and having some fun, there is no better place to stay. Not only do tourists have easy access to all the top theme parks in Orlando-Disney World, Sea World, and Orlando Studios-but they can also visit the beaches, go golfing, or browse the local shops.

Believe it or not, shopping is a major attraction in Kissimmee, as many tourists and locals eschew the monstrous shopping centers and malls outside of Orlando and instead come to the quiet city for a relaxing day of shopping with friends and family.

What does Kissimmee offer? As you might expect from a small town masquerading as city, there are dozens of charming boutiques and antique stores, there are even a few modern shopping centers on the outskirts of the city. But those are mostly for people who don't know any better. For the residents of the town and enlightened tourists, there is nothing like shopping in the downtown area.

That is why when people come to Kissimmee on vacation, they almost never return to the crowded, overpriced Orlando hotels again.

As we just alluded to, another reason to visit the city is the price. You can and should expect substantial savings on accommodations in Kissimmee when compared to downtown Orlando. While room rates are constantly changing and do depend on occupancy levels, you will likely see at least a twenty-five percent discount for rooms in the city.

With savings like these, it is not uncommon for visitors to go on mini spending sprees, which is one reason why Kissimmee shop owners light up when they see tourists. They know that they have money to spend.

Where to Go

One of the most the most popular stops for tourists and locals alike is Lanier's Antique Market place. The business has been around for decades now and offers browsers an all afternoon experience with two solid floors of antique furniture, gewgaws, and curios.

Another great thing about proprietors in Kissimmee is that they are never looking to get one over on tourists. They know quite well that their businesses depend on tourist dollars, which is why they are always so helpful. When compared with crowded Orlando gift shops and shopping centers that are only concerned with sales volume and think service is something that goes on at gas stations, Kissimmee shops and stores are a refreshing change.

And after a long, relaxing day of shopping, why not relax some more at one of the fine restaurants in the area? Like most tourist towns, Kissimmee offers a convenient mix of upscale and casual family dining. As for ethnic food, the city has everything from Greek to Irish to Italian. But in spite of the fact that they must cater to visitors, Kissimmee residents still know their history, who and where they are, which is why much of the food in the city has a decidedly southern flair.

Lastly, if for some reason you want to visit the shopping centers, there really aren't any huge malls in the immediate area. For those monstrous shopping centers, you will have to venture into Orlando. But beware! The crowds are carnivorous.

Most people have pets. These pets are part of the family. They are treated the same way as the children are. The pets are not left out of any arrangements. Not even vacations!! The pet could be a cat, dog, or even a parrot. However, most pets tend to be dogs.

When you decide to take your pet along for the vacation, you should consider many things. First, you need to know where you are going and by what means you plan to get there. Also, consider what you will be doing there. You have to be sure all that fits in with your pet. Do not assume that all hotels are pet friendly. There are those that do not allow pets anywhere near their premises. Others allow but they too have conditions for these pets. Therefore, you need to do some research for hotels or vacation rentals that allow pets. Find out their terms and conditions so that you may know what you are getting into.

Before you begin your travel for vacation, make sure your pet has been to the vet to have his/her shots. Have a record of all the vaccinations that your pet has had. The vacation rental you will be staying at might ask to see them. Nobody will want to risk the health of their customers by having sick or unhealthy animals around. Consider the mode of travel. Road travel is easier with pets unlike air travel. Ensure your pet has its special seat with a safety belt just like you. Remember to carry your pet's license with you. The pet should also have an identification tag, which should have your information and especially contacts. You will not want your pet thrown out of a vacation rental because it lacks identification. It could as well be mistaken for a stray. Have enough food to last throughout the trip. Some pets also get sick due to taking water they are not accustomed to. This means you should carry bottled water for your pet from home. Do not also forget to pack you pet's vitamins for the vacation. Also, carry something familiar to keep the pet calm in a strange place. You do not want your pet getting all upset and spoiling the vacation for everyone.

Some vacation rentals will ask you to make sure your pet is well behaved. They may not want noisy pets or those that will always insist on sitting on tables. Other rentals will require you to eat at outdoor dining tables because of your pet. Not all travelers will want pets around as they take their meals. You must have total control of your pet through out the vacation.

Your pet should be a socialized one too if you are to get a vacation rental with it. At least it should be able to stand other people during the vacation. All you need to do is check out the pet friendly vacation rentals in Florida and choose one.

Any conversation on the top beaches in the United States would be incomplete without the mention of Florida's pristine beaches. It does not matter if you are a Florida resident, a regular visitor or are visiting the East Coast for the first time; the breath taking beauty that the sugar-white sandy beaches are will blow you away. What is interesting is that the beaches of Florida are actually growing in size year after year, which is quite the opposite of many other Atlantic Coast beaches.

The Florida coastline stretches for more than 1200 miles and would take you months or even years to cover and completely appreciate from one end to the other. Looking at the sheer size of the coastline, it is not surprising that one is spoilt for choice as far as beach locations to visits is concerned. Each beach spot has its own unique character that makes it attractive to certain groups and categories of beach enthusiasts. Effectively, this means that it is very difficult to have every person agree as to which beaches along the East Cost and Florida in particular are indeed the best.

Among the Florida beaches considered a must-see include:

Grayton Beach State Park

Grayton Beach has consistently ranked as one of the top beaches not only in Florida but in the United States. Paying a visit makes it clear why. Anything you would want to experience at a top-notch beach is available here. You can sunbathe, surf, swim and even canoe. The white beaches are further complemented by a 4 mile hiker and cycling trail. Campers will find the Grayton Beach State Park ideal as the park boasts fully-fledged campgrounds.

Fort Lauderdale Beach

Once known as the ideal spring break student rioting location, Fort Lauderdale has strived to repair this reputation. The invasion of college students from the winter north made it a no go zone for families during spring break. Now however, the authorities have proactively moved to monitor the beaches enforcing a strict code while not throwing a wet blanket on the fun.

Caladesi Island State Park

Located at Dunedin, the Caladesi Island State Park is comprised of several Islands each boasting super white beaches. A point to note is that access to the islands is only possible through a private boat or a ferry.

St. Joseph Peninsula State Park

If you consider a visit to the beach the ultimate vacation and have bird watching as your favorite pastime, then look no further than the St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. The beachfront runs for just over ten miles. Bird lovers and persons that just appreciate nature will have hard time seeing all the 240 different species of birds at the park. During the breaks from the bird watching, you can engage in snorkeling, sunbathing, swimming, fishing as well as camping.

Honeymoon Island State Park

Perhaps no other beach is more aptly name than Honeymoon Island State Park. The Palm-thatched bungalows are a favorite among newly-weds. The sun-drenched beaches, pine forests and mangrove swamps complete the fascinating scenery.

If you own a vacation property, chances are you have considered renting it to recoup part of your investment or just as a way to make it pay for itself. There are a few ways you can maximize your vacation rental bookings, but you have to be sure that your vacation rental offers features and benefits that will entice people to choose it over the rest.

The first thing to consider is any touch-up or fix-up that might be needed. You want your pictures to reflect how appealing your vacation rental is and the pictures should reflect a freshly painted and well-maintained vacation rental. Would you want to plan your vacation getaway in a dump?

That brings us to the pictures of your vacation rental that you are going to offer in your advertising, website and rental booking engines. You should feature pictures of the best views, bedroom and living room or kitchen. Add fresh flowers or decorative planters to tables to give a vacation rental a more upscale feel. Sometimes, it is little accessories that can make your vacation rental stand out more than some of the others on the market.

When you are advertising online, be sure that your description is clear and inviting and that your rental rates are competitive. If you are going to use a property rental company, you have to consider they may charge 35% of your rental fees. But sometimes it is worth it for an absentee owner because they can help you maintain it, have a cleaning service in after a rental has taken place, and handle any of the emergency calls that can happen with your vacation rental, which can give you peace of mind. Also, they will feature additional advertising for your vacation rental, which can maximize your rental income.

If you are going to advertise and rent the vacation rental out on your own, be sure to respond quickly to any inquiries because they are probably shopping around with other vacation rentals, too. Sometimes, the first one that suits their needs and is in their price range is the one they will book. Most people don't want to wait very long for answers to their questions, so try to respond within 24 hours, if possible.

You will want to find a good cleaning service that is reliable and can clean the vacation rental on short notice after each renter has left, unless you plan to do this on your own. Many owners of vacation rentals think that a good cleaning company is worth the money they spend, so you might want to consider this option to make sure everything is ready to go quickly for the next rental.

These are just a few of the ways that you can maximize your vacation rentals. If you take advantage of some of the vacation rental websites that lets you list your property, it can be worth the additional income you will get. You want to make your vacation rental stand out above the competition, in order to get the maximum amount of vacation rentals.

How about some fun in the sun in casual, friendly Fort Pierce Florida? This town is one of the most scenic and relaxing vacation destinations in the Sunshine State. We like the fact that there are a lot of great attractions for both adults and kids to enjoy.
Fort Pierce attractions can be found right along the fully restored Main Street in the downtown area. The stores and shops that line the street give it a "bohemian chic" atmosphere. There are lots of small flower gardens and trees that line this downtown street and I know that you and your family will enjoy stretching your legs and strolling about this totally "fun" community. You can find lots of cafes, clothing stores and yes, even some stores selling novelty toys and souvenirs.
Perhaps you and your family would like to start out with the Seven Gables Visitor Information Center that is located on North Indian River Drive. You will be able to get dozens of brochures about all the Fort Pierce attractions with one easy stop.
Peter P. Cobb Building
This is the place where you can wander about the historical Peter P. Cobb Building that houses the Information Center, as well as some retail shops including a marine and hardware store. This structure was established around 1875 and it gained prominence quickly because it was one of the very first trading posts for Florida's Treasure Coast. At that time this inland road was called the "Cracker Trail". The Cobb Building has an exterior composed of local cypress wood.
The Peter P. Cobb building is a truly beautiful and unique architectural landmark that is very representative of the style once known as "Florida Cracker".
Indian Hills Golf Course
You may want to check out Indian Hills Golf Course which has been a big draw for Fort Pierce residents and visitors for over 70 years. This course was originally laid out and designed by Herbert Strong and provides some outstanding challenges for any level of golfing enthusiast. The convenient location makes it possible for you to sandwich 9-18 holes of golf in between some of your family's sight seeing and beach adventures. Rental equipment is always available and there is a pro shop on site where you can sign up for lessons tailored for your age and golfing level.
The Fort Pierce Sunrise Theatre
Fort Pierce is also home to the Sunrise Theatre that was built in 1923 for vaudeville entertainment. Today it has been renovated and restored with care and is a 1200 seat theatre that the city uses to host a wide variety of shows and performing arts.
Meet the Manatees
The Manatee Observation and Education Center is also located on the main drag, which is otherwise known as North Indian River Drive, and it open throughout the year. You just have to love these gentle, intelligent ocean mammals.
Visitors can come here 6 days a week and browse through the exhibits and gift shop. If you visit during the winter season you are treated to the sight of huge, gentle Manatees that spend the colder months in the warmer waters of Moore's Creek which adjoins the Center.
Art for the Heart
Is there an art lover in your vacation group? If so then you should make a quick stop at the Backus Gallery. This is where many paintings by Bean Backus are on display. He is widely regarded as one of the premiere landscape artists in the southeastern US and he specializes in bringing the beauty of Florida's outdoor scenery to canvas. Did I remember to tell you that this "cool" little art gallery sits right on the water? What a bonus! After you tour Bean's shop you can grab a sandwich and enjoy dining al fresco at the nearby Corner Café.
See Marvelous Botanical Specimens
The Heathcote Botanical Gardens are another of the wonderful Fort Pierce attractions that you can see while you are on vacation. This is a living museum that is full of botanical treasures for everyone to enjoy. Hundreds of colorful plants and trees can be viewed here. There is a meticulously designed Japanese Garden and many rare plant species that are sure to delight everyone in your group.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful places to visit in the USA is Florida. There is a number of breath taking beaches to soak up the sun there but one of the most beautiful ones is Treasure Island. So if you are planning a vacation and want to have the time of your life then you will not want to miss out on the treasures at Treasure Island.

It is located on the gulf coast in Florida and has miles of sparkling white sandy beaches. No matter whether you are looking to have some fun on the beach or you're boating and looking for a hot spot for beach bars and restaurants to dock your boat at, Treasure Island has it all. Located conveniently near Tampa where you can find such exciting places as the ever-popular water park Adventure Island or the Anheuser Busch theme park.

If you want to go for a short day trip you can go to Orlando where you will find Nickelodeon Family Suites which is one of the best family resorts with two water parks located right on the property. Next door to Nickelodeon Family Suites is Disney World, which is another hot spot for families.

Treasure Island is a great place for couples to get away as well as families as there is just so much to do, it will seem like you stay is never long enough. If you are looking for the best deal on accommodations, there are many condominiums that offer weekly rentals and time-share deals. This allows you to have a home away from home where you can come and go as you please without having to deal with the hassle of just planning where you're going to eat.

If you rent a condo for your vacation, you will be able to have a full apartment setting that includes a full kitchen. Just stock the fridge and you are good to go. Most of the condos also have such amenities as a pool, tennis courts, and even private beach access. Treasure Island is definitely the place to go when visiting Florida.

If you're looking for the local hot spots on Treasure Island, you should stop in at Ricky T's, Caddy's or Gators. Most of these places offer live music on the weekends with great food and good times for all. The great thing about staying right on Treasure Island is that you really have no need to drive anywhere as everything is within walking distance, with plenty to keep you busy for your entire stay. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and beach clothes as you will most likely spend your days on the beach in the water.
