Wed: Lauren & Tyler in Palm Coast

It's no secret that I'm a huge Gator fan, so when I received this lovely Southern and University of Florida-style affair at the Hammock Beach Resort from Details Flowers & Photography I honestly did a little happy dance. Lauren and Tyler met at a party at UF, and were both raised in Florida, so their vision of "really fancy tailgate" with loads of southern charm seems like the perfect fit... and who wouldn't want to attend a wedding like that? This is great inspiration for those of you out there that are thinking of incorporating some meaningful, less-than-traditional details into your big day while still keeping it classy.

The groom, Tyler, chose the colors based on his "most passionate obsession"... the Florida Gators. The couple then added sophistication by incorporating Southern-inspired details: seersucker (the men's suits), lace (Lauren's gorgeous Chantilly lace gown) and the local chocolate truffles they gave as favors to their lucky guests.

I love the story of how the couple met, as told by Lauren: "In June of 2007, I met Tyler through mutual friends during a get together at Tyler's house in the University of Florida's student ghetto. Unfortunately for Tyler, he had an exam the following morning and our first meeting was a desperate Tyler begging not so politely for the party to quiet down so he could continue studying. It was love at first sight! I was immediately attracted to this studious fellow and we spent the rest of the summer enjoying each other's company and ironically, not studying too hard. A year and a half later, the friendship blossomed into a romance when Tyler returned to Gainesville from an internship in Philadelphia to rekindle our summer romance! Two and a half years later he proposed. "

What Lauren loves about Tyler... "I love that Tyler makes me dinner every night and has the patience to put up with all my impatience. He is the passionate, artistic half of the relationship and I wouldn't be whole without him. "

... and Tyler about Lauren: "I love that Lauren is motivated and driven in all aspects of life. She is my level headed, grounded, and responsible half."

Lauren shared their engagement story with us:

While I was away for the summer doing veterinary externships out west, Tyler met with my parents and asked for their permission. We traveled to Colorado in August 2011, which would be our third trip to the state together. On the second day of the trip, we spent the day in Aspen to hike at Maroon Bells. In an aspen tree grove, Tyler got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Tearfully, I said, Yes! I had always joked that I wanted to get engaged on the top of a mountain, and Tyler delivered. At the end of our hike, Tyler's family met us with champagne to celebrate. The rest of the week we enjoyed fly fishing and white water rafting and the wedding planning began!

A father escorting his daughter down the aisle is always a special moment; for Lauren, it had particular meaning: "My father has parkinson's disease and watching him get off his wheelchair to walk me down the aisle, was quite an emotional experience for everyone. He was feeling really great that day and it was a God given gift he was able to use his legs that day. I think everyone will remember that as the most memorable moment."

Both Lauren and Tyler's parents and grandparents are happily married (or were until they parted), and the couple celebrated this with placing all their photos on a table leading into the reception. Says Lauren, "We are both very proud of our committed lineage."

And thanks to five weeks of waltz lessons, they dazzled the crowd with their choreographed first dance.

Wed: Danielle & Mike in Naples

Get ready to fall just a little in love with the beautiful Naples wedding we're sharing today from Jamie Lee Photography! A high school crush led to a chance New Year's Eve meeting, and then a long-distance Minnesota/Florida love affair, and finally - the best day of Danielle and Mike's lives. The couple tied the knot at the Bellasera Hotel in downtown Naples, bringing to life their vision of a "neutral with a splash of color" affair with an emphasis on their love for each other, their love for family and friends... and a love of sweets!

Danielle and Mike both grew up in Hastings, Minnesota, but didn't become friends until their senior year.

From Danielle: The funny thing is all through high school I always had a crush on him, but never thought in a million years he would ever look my way! We both ended up being in long-term relationships our Senior year of high school and into our college years. It wasn't until a good year after college we started dating one another long distance. He had just moved to Florida for a work opportunity about three months prior to us dating. He had flown back to MN to visit family for Christmas and New Year's. We ended up going out with a large group of people for New Year's Eve and completely hit it off. After that night our relationship started with nightly phone calls and visits back and forth from MN to FL and vice versa when our schedules allowed. We continued our long distance relationship for 1 1/2 years until I made the decision to come to FL as well. I was teaching at the time and drove down to FL with intentions of staying here all summer, then going back to MN in the Fall to teach. Here I am 7 years later still in FL, needless to say I never made it back like our family and friends predicted!

The couple had a first look in the hotel, at the bottom of a gorgeous staircase. Says Danielle, "We both were speechless and emotional. It was so reassuring to finally be in each other's arms."

Danielle also shared their sweet engagement story with us:

Mike is very sneaky and of course surprised me with our engagement. He was in cahoots with a girlfriend of mine who had asked me to meet her and girlfriend of hers at a restaurant. When I arrived at the restaurant I didn't see her so I went to the outside area to call her. As she picked up the phone and was telling me she was there, Mike tapped me on my shoulder. I was completely shocked to see him there as he was supposed to be at work. With my girlfriend still on the phone I told her to "hang on" while I asked Mike "what are you doing here?". Mike didn't realize I was still on the phone and immediately went to bended knee saying all of these wonderful things that I wish I could recall. I had never seen him so nervous before! After accepting his proposal we celebrated with champagne, enjoying the moment just us two.

After a few minutes I decided to call my mom to let her know the good news. She already knew this was happening today since Mike had not only asked my dad for my hand in marriage but also my mom since we are extremely close. She was so happy. I then thought it would be nice for us to get a picture together to capture this moment. Mike agreed and thought it was a great idea, adding that possibly my mom could take the picture for us. I looked at him in confusion with what he said since my mom lives in MN. When I asked him what he meant by that, he said "turn around". Approaching the two of us was my mom, Mike's best friend and his girl friend who had just picked up my mom from the airport! It was that moment that I became very choked up. I couldn't believe that she was there to celebrate our exciting news! The rest of the night and weekend of celebrations were perfect, and having her there meant so much more!

To honor family members who had passed away, the couple had a white hydrangea for each person arranged on the top of their ceremony arch. They also had a close friend (and groomsman) become ordained to perform their wedding ceremony. As Danielle tells us, "We couldn't have been happier with the decision to do this! So many people came up to us afterward and expressed how meaningful the ceremony was, and how well he did. Having him do this for us made our day even more special."

Neither Danielle and Mike are a fan of traditional wedding cakes, so they endulged Danielle's sweet tooth (her dad refers to her as the 'treat queen') and treated their guests to a delish spread of mini cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, mini fresh fruit tarts and mini key lime tarts (a local favorite). For favors, they provided another local treat: Norman Love Chocolates, which were also a huge hit.

Danielle shared lots of details with us about the planning process and special moments of the day:

We wanted a neutral look with a splash of color which is why we went with the "toast" bridesmaid dresses and champagne dresses for the flower girls. I also had a champagne sash added to my dress to tie in with the flower girls. To add color, we used green and eggplant accents - green orchids, green hydrangeas, and eggplant calla lillies. We also used a lot of white for a clean, simple look. In order to make Mike stand out from the groomsmen, he wore a dark charcoal suit with a champagne tie while the groomsmen wore pants and a tie color similar to the bridesmaid's "toast" color. We really liked this contrast!

Another favorite moment was during dinner, right after we had finished eating. Mike and I looked at one another and we didn't even have to say anything as we were both thinking the same thing. We took time to just sit and observe all that was happening around us, and all the people who had come so far to celebrate our day with us. It was very heart-warming and incredible! All the hard work and planning was worth what we were experiencing in that moment. The entire day was everything we had hoped for and more.

Our band was AMAZING!!!!! They provided beautiful music for us during the ceremony, relaxing, romantic music during dinner, and the full band for the dance. The band had all of our guests on their feet dancing the entire night!!! People were dancing who typically don't dance. The band honestly sounded better than I ever imagined!

In college, my college roommates and I (one of them being my matron of honor) would choreograph and perform a dance for our friends on the weekends. One of the songs we used to religiously dance to every weekend was Michael Jackson's "Beat It". We had always said we will perform this dance at one of our weddings. Nearly ten years later with all of my college roommates already married, we had not performed the dance so we made a pact to do so that night. The night prior to our wedding we were all together practicing and trying to recall the steps to the dance. Needless to say, we succeeded in remembering the dance and therefore preformed the dance in front of all of our guests that evening! Everyone enjoyed it so much!

All that evening, the next day, and for weeks afterwards we were pleasantly surprised with the overwhelming compliments on our wedding. It was by far the best day of both of our lives!!! I look back and wish we could re-live that day over and over again.

Engaged: Libby & John in Lakeland

Today's engagement session by Jordan Weiland Photography is one of those that transports you to another place. In this case, to the gorgeous Lake Parker Park in Lakeland, to witness the sweet love that a beautiful couple has for each other... along with some seriously gorgeous light!

From Jordan: Libby and John have been dating for three years and are getting married this June in Lakeland. They've spent the last year of their relationship apart, her in Nepal for the summer and him in California at Bethel this past Fall and Spring. Their relationship has involved travel, letters, maps and long distances and they can't wait to get married and have their intimate ceremony this summer to celebrate their love with family and friends.

John grew up in Lakeland, and Libby moved there for school; they met in college. We asked Libby how they met: We met in an apartment that I shared with a friend named Ali. John knew her from school, but I had no idea who he was. John and Ali were going to go to dinner with other friends, but she wanted to shower and change. I sat there at the dining room table with a pile of twizzler wrappers on one side of my computer, and an unopened pile on the other side. I was in sweats, glasses, and told John I was taken because I didn't want to deal with it. He thought about me all through dinner, and said my name out loud on accident. Second time, I had grandma curlers in my hair. The third time, we were inseparable.

The couple built a strong bond through their shared faith, their belief in each other as "powerful" and independent people, and their ability to communicate well with each other. Says Libby, John does what he says he will, plays soccer amazingly well, and has nice calves (spoken like a true fiancée right?). He is mellow, and continually amazes me with his strength, stability, and joy. Everywhere he goes, leadership follows him, and his heart is to continually change the cultures around him for good. Meanwhile, I grew up all over the place, and moved to Lakeland to go to school (and a lot of family was here). I did dance, messed around with volleyball, and eventually decided that my heart was for traveling. I embarked on mission trips to Africa and Nepal, and have taught the last year at All Saints' Academy in Winter Haven while John is in California at Bethel School of Ministry. John and I mesh. The extremes of who we are have ended up in a perfect balance that continually works together, and occasionally pushes the other outside of their comfort zone. I like travel, he never felt the urge. Suddenly, we are ending up in California. I like hideously bright colors, he is more a neutral guy, and ba-bam, suddenly I appreciate and go after hues other then florescent.

Libby also told us the story of their engagement: We have an odd engagement story. We really prayed about marriage, but weren't really getting a lot of go ahead from my family. Eventually, out of frustration, I said "Baby! Can't we just ask God for a date??". We asked, he answered. June 9th. We didn't have an engagement ring, John was in Cali, but we went for it. I kept reassuring John I didn't need a ring, but when he came home for a quick break, he got down on one knee in the Maitland Art Center courtyard and proposed... with a ring that he had had for almost 2.5 years!! (We have been dating 3.5). So romantic *swoon*

And we asked how the wedding planning was coming along: The coolest thing about our wedding, is the fact that we have really been patient, trying to see where the "right" places are, and the "right" dresses. Things that people said couldn't happen, have. I was told that cancellations never happen at Lake Parker (where we wanted to get married), lo and behold, four weeks out, it's available. The dress wasn't supposed to come in until June 6th. It's already arrived. Our honeymoon spot is ideal.

We are going for a metal, wood, stone look, accompanied with bright fabrics, and burlap. The girls are carrying metal flowers, I am carrying a bouquet of dried flowers that John has given me over the years up the aisle, then replacing it with brand new flowers on the way back down. We are having worship at our ceremony, and a nontraditional feel mixed with the norms of any wedding. We have Jones sodas as our favors, personalized. And who knows what else! We are having a wonderful friend and coordinator, Trisha Weinrich help us, and she has helped capture that vision. Not only that, but we have the best photographer that a couple could ask for - one who helped us relax, and show love to each other as naturally as possible for lasting pics!

The Friday Fresh Squeeze

Well, SunFest has come and gone, the last crazy busy month of wedding season is in full swing, and the days are starting to be just a little warmer than I'd like... guess that means summer is here in South Florida! In a little over a week, we'll be in the Keys for a little R&R, but also for some "work" - meeting and reconnecting with some of our favorite wedding vendors, and enjoying the ambiance at Morada Bay. Wed: Sara & Jason at Cheeca Lodge

Party of 12 please? Yes, 12! When I received Sara and Jason's wedding from Daniel Lateulade it was a good reminder to me about what the importance of what marriage is. When the couple thought about planning their big day, all they could envision was their closest family and friends with them. Sometimes we find that the planning of the wedding, the flowers and the cake and the discussions over whether to have personalized cocktail napkins or not, get us lost in the meaning of what the day truly is. Sara and Jason stuck to their nearest and dearest to make their weekend a truly memorable intimate day. Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us!

From the Bride: We both have very large families and we really wanted an intimate wedding. For both Jason and I, it was more about saying our vows in front of the people we loved, than having a big party. It was very difficult to keep the guest list short without offending any of our relatives. This is why we eventually decided on immediate family only. It was the greatest decision we made. The weekend was absolutely perfect. Our new families were really able to spent time together and enjoy each moment.

The reason we chose Cheeca Lodge is that we often drive down to Islamorada and Key Largo on the weekends to dive. Several months before we were engaged, Jason took to me dinner at Cheeca lodge. The food was amazing and we both loved the ambience. Months later we returned with my family to celebrate our engagement and say goodbye to my brother before he went to the military. Jason and I walked out on the sand to watch another wedding down the beach and he told me that this is where he had pictured us saying our vows to each other when we had come so many months earlier. We looked around at other places but always ended up right back at Cheeca lodge.

Jason and I grew up around the corner from each other. We went to the same elementary and middle schools and he ending up becoming one of my older brother Ghen's closest friends. Being 5 years younger, I was always viewed as "Ghen's little sister" and completely off limits. I was 12 years old sitting at my parents kitchen table when I developed my first crush. My brother was throwing a pool party and I spent the day starring out the window at teenage Jason. Little did I know that 16 years later Jason would me my husband.

My mother's family has a house in upstate NY on Hunter mountain. It has been in our family for over a hundred years. I spent every summer and winter vacation of my childhood there. My great grandmother lived there until she passed at 100 yrs old. She was one of the most amazing and inspirational women I have ever met. My family has decided to sell the house and I wanted Jason to see it before it was sold. We went for a vacation through New England May 2011. Jason proposed to me hiking in the woods behind our house in the same spot my grandmother and great grandmother were both engaged. He had no idea at the time that it was the same place, it just felt right to him. Absolutely perfect.

Sandy Espinosa from Twenty7Events was incredible. She helped us to realize exactly what we wanted in our perfect day. If it wasn't for her, we probably would still be in the wedding planning phase. Sandy introduced us to Daniel Lateulade. He has an incredible eye for capturing moments. He was an absolute pleasure to work with and we adore our photographs. He really did an amazing job telling our story.

When Francy of FCN Photography sent over this sweet inspiration bridal shoot, I knew it would be a fun way to break up the week. Inspired by daydreams in the park of what her wedding day would be like, Francy gathered a team of creative pros and brought her dreams to reality... and she made all the little details herself. The result is a sweet, romantic, rustic and dreamy garden-style feel.

Wed: Ashley & Chris in Miami

There's something so romantic and passionate about a deep, lush red color in weddings... of course, it helps when the couple getting married is so beautiful and so obviously in love! Elaine Palladino Photography was on hand to capture Chris and Ashley's 'Spanish Garden' wedding in Miami, and it was filled with beautiful florals (red peonies, roses, calla lilies and carnations), rich color, and personal, meaningful details. As Elaine put it best, "They were so in love and all the details reflected their flawless style!"

From the beautiful bride, Ashley: "Our theme was a Spanish garden. Neither of us have Spanish roots, but we love the food, the music and the colors of Spain. Not to mention, Chris is a huge FC Barcelona fan! We wanted the mood to be very romantic and intimate."

The couple filled their day with many personal details: they gave away traditional Jamaican wedding cake to guests as one of their favors; Ashley had a groom's cake made with a soccer/Barcelona theme for Chris, and her garter was handmade with Barcelona emblem; instead of the traditional 'sign-in book', they had everyone sign around their picture along with writing the first word that comes to mind when they think of marriage; and they had everyone paint one stroke on a canvas with different color paints, with plans of hanging the final masterpiece in their home. And Ashley danced with all of her uncles and cousins instead of a traditional father/daughter dance, which she also did at her Sweet 16 party.

Ashley shared her most memorable moment of the day with us: "Our first dance. One of the bridesmaids and best friend had a personalized version of our 'song' produced by the artist. We didn't think it was 'first dance' material when we were choosing our selection for the day, so we opted for a more traditional song. The DJ cut the song in the middle, and then the surprise came... It was very memorable and 'til this day our guests still speak about how cool and unique that was."

She also passed on advice for other couples: "Be aware of your budget, do not take the stress out on one another, enjoy every moment of the day, and make a list in advance (which you will provide to your photographer) of people whom you want to take pictures with on the big day."

The Friday Fresh Squeeze

Well hello May! Hello Friday! Whoa, the month of April flew by and now here we are at the beginning of May, crazy! The beginning of the week was not pretty here in Florida with lots of wind and lots of rain, but the past two days we have been smiling to see the sunshine back out. The sun and a nice breeze this time of a year is always a reminder to us of why we live and plan weddings in Florida....because it is beautiful! Laura and I had a busy week planning some upcoming events and putting some plans in line and we continue to be smiling from the beautiful submissions we are receiving, we hope you are as well from reading them! Laura and I love a little nautical chic added to a Florida wedding. We are always so happy to see couples' engagement shoots that include a beautiful layout on the boat or better yet a way to incorporate a nautical feel into your wedding. I loved this feature Bee Photographie had this week. The wedding is full of sailors knots and nautical touches. Doesn't the bride look glowing with love next to her groom in the Pool House?
