Name Frames

I just had the last class this year for my Name Frames. It is so fun to see how everyone adds a few changes to make it their own. Here are some of them:

We used the Serif Essentials Sizzix die cut alphabet. Some letters were cut from patterned paper & some from card stock. A few of the letters were run through the Big Shot using the textured impressions embossing folder 'Petals a Plenty'.

And you can see we used the ornament from the Delightful Decorations set as an 'O'. It was embossed with white embossing powder, punched out and then a rhinestone brad was added to the center.

We also used the Flower, Daisies #2 die for either an 'O' or an embellishment.

The small snowflakes are from the Merry Details sizzlit & we used ribbons tied with silver cord on the edges.

These are so fun to make & easy too. It's creating a balance of patterns & textures along with adding just a few embellishments.

If you're wondering just how large these frames are, the openings in our frame fit a piece of paper measuring 5" X 12".

We used the Crop-o-Dile to punch a hole in the back of the frame for the ribbon.

And I just thought I'd toss in this photo of my main class area - my living room!

I'm lucky enough to have a very large main room that fits two long tables end to end that still leaves room for us. Right now with the tree & decorations up, it's seems pretty full. But we are so used to having these tables up - almost year around, that we 'almost' miss it when we take them down for holidays or long weekends.

I also have two other tables in my adjacent dining room that work as our eating table & the other as my work space. Maybe some day when it's neat..... I'll show you that too!

I have the best family - putting up with me. I've slowly taken over 1/2 of the house with my stamping!

There's just something about him.....

that makes each card so adorable!

We made this card at a workshop last month. We used Real Red & Black markers to ink him up before stamping onto the Whisper White card stock. Hint: be sure to give your markered stamp a 'huff' to moisten the ink before stamping!

And of course we added 2-way glue & Dazzling Diamonds glitter to his horns.

The strips of Red & White flocked paper are from the Christmas Cocoa designer series paper - available only 1 more month!

Advent Envelope Book tutorial

I've had quite a few requests for instructions for my friend Pat's Advent Envelope Book. I'm sorry it wasn't done before the beginning of December - I just did not have time.

So here it is!

This is the front of the book. I used the Naturally Serif Decorative Strip sizzlit die for the letters. Stamps are from Tree Trimmings, Autumn Days & Season of Joy. Colors are Real Red & Glorious Green.

There are 25 envelopes inside that you can fill so the lucky recipient can open one up each day!

You need 25 envelopes that you either make from patterned paper (don't ask me how!) or you can stamp or decorate them. I chose to buy a bunch of white ones on sale after the Holidays last year. And basically the size of the whole project depends on the size of your envelopes. So start there. To give you a guide, the green layer on the front is the same size as my envelopes - 5 3/8" X 7 3/8".

The white stamped piece measures 5 1/8" X 7 1/8".

It's hard to see, but the top white layer is actually a thin layer of card board - the type that's inside a package of patterned paper. This board measures 5 5/8" X 7 7/8".

The bottom layer is white card stock 6 1/4" X 8 3/8". Basically you're covering a layer of thin card board to give the book a sturdy cover.

Glue the thin board to one side of your white card stock & cut off the corners at an angle. Fold the card stock edges over the sides & adhere to the thin card board.

Now you would add your colored pieces (5 1/4" X 7 1/2") over the layered card board, but wait! Do not adhere these red or green pieces until you have your accordion binding done. When done I had a red layer on one side & a green layer on the other. These measure 5 1/4" X 7 1/2".

Cut 5 pieces of card stock measuring 7" X 11" for the binding. Score every 1 inch & fan-fold. Adhere the ends together by overlapping just one 1" flap on each end. You'll have a very long bunch!

This is actually one of the fun parts - using different Christmas wheels & ink to add pizazz to your plain white envelopes.

This is not a good photo of this step, but you should now adhere one red accordion flap to the back inside long edge of your white covered board. Then you'll cover the whole back with a piece of red or green card stock as the inside front cover of your book.

Now you can start adding the envelopes like the photo above. I prefer to use Tombo Multip-purpose adhesive, but Sticky Strip would also work. You need something very strong so the envelopes will not pull away or detach with the weight of your 'gifts' inside. We just added adhesive on one side of each flap for the envelope - you could do both sides but doing it that way makes for less room inside each envelope.

Before you add the back cover, add your ribbon between the back hard cover & the red or green inside layer. This hides it somewhat. I also made my ribbon ends meet on the edge of the front binding area so the bow wouldn't cover up the 'cute' front of the book. *See front of the book.

I used round sticky labels to close each envelope after filling. You can get these in the office supply area & the numbers can be printed using your printer or just written on. In fact I found removable adhesive round labels so they can be stuck back down.

This is the book empty - when full it is quite fat! So cut your ribbon long!

My two older kids each got one of these - so they get to open 1 present each day until Christmas.

Big Shot Club

And here are the projects we did at last week's Big Shot Club.

Too bad you cannot see the shimmer on the tree here. Real life is so much better than my photos!

We used the Scallop Circle #2 die to make the Old Olive tree. How?

Basically you cut out one scallop with the die & mark off 6 scallops for the bottom & cut at an angle to the very top of the die-cut. We then ran it through the Big Shot again using the Petal's a Plenty embossing folder. And we weren't finished with it yet - we added white dots to the flowers with the Signo white gel pen & then rubbed Champagne Shimmer paint over the raised petsls with a sponge dauber.

The trunk is punched from the Modern Label punch using Chocolate Chip CS.

The patterned pine paper is from the package of DSP called Merry Moments in the main SU catalog. We added berries using the Rich Razzleberry marker - don't you just love that SU gave us In Color markers??!!!

We also made this Scalloped Envelope treat box. We cut out 4 scallop envelopes from Baja Breeze CS - yes I know it's retired! But I had some of this beautiful holiday DSP left so I had to use Baja & Real Red together!

I love how the tag is made - the stamped image is from the Christmas Punch Level 2 hostess set. Punched with the large oval punch & layered onto a scalloped Red oval piece. Then it's layered onto a large SU snowflake punch - perfect!

And last......

It's a Top Note Wreath on an Easel card!

We cut out one Top Note die from Very Vanilla card stock. Turned it 90 degrees & ran it through again using the Top Note die. Then we turned it again & cut & once more & cut. You get this beautiful stitched round shape!

I thought it would be perfect for a wreath. We used the berry image from the Autumn Days stamp set to make the wreath. First stamp around with Garden Green, then switch to Real Red. I may have a bit more Red than needed here, but it sure is festive!

Add some gold brads, a Red bow & sponging around the wreath to finish it off.

I used the Perfect Details texturz plate to the Garden Green piece on top along with a bit more sponging around the edges.

Punch Art 'Cardinals'

Two cute, chubby cardinals with a wish for you!

They're made from these punches:

1 3/8" circle - body

large Oval - crest - I snipped the top with a scissors

Boho Blossoms - face/mask & tail

5 petal - wing & beak

1/4" circle - shingles on bird house

Heart to Heart - bird house

The trees are cut from the Merry Details sizzlit in the Holiday Mini, the bird house shape was cut by hand, the sky was sponged with a bit of White Craft ink as were the shingles & the crests on the cardinals, the snow was hand torn & edges coated with 2-way glue & Dazzling Diamonds glitter, the sign is from two stamp sets - Punch Pals & Tiny Wishes

Cake in a Cup recipe

I've had a few requests for the recipe for this easy microwaved treat seen below, so here you go!

Cake:

1 box French Vanilla cake mix (white is okay too)

1 small box Chocolate Instant pudding

Mix the two together well - you will have enough for nine (1/2 cup) packets.

Glaze: 1/3 cup powdered sugar mixed with 2 tsp. French Vanilla Coffee Mate

Put each into a small zip-lock baggie. The cake mix fits into a 3 X 4" baggie & the glaze into a 2 X 1 1/2" baggie. Put them both inside the mug with the glaze on the bottom & the cake on top. Wrap a ribbon around the cake packet of the 8 oz mug & attach this recipe card to it:

Generously spray the inside of your coffee cup with cooking spray.
Empty contents of large packet into cup. Add 1 egg white 1 Tbsp. oil & 1 Tbsp. water. Stir 15 seconds, carefully mixing in all the dry ingredients.
Microwave on full powder 2 minutes.
While cake is cooking, place glaze ingredients into a very small container & add 1 1/2 tsp. water. Mix well.
When cake is done, pour glaze over the cake in a cup. Enjoy while warm!

Mommy & Me Class & an 'open crop' day ...

I've finally scheduled a special class just for kids. I've been wanting to do one for ages & I think Christmas is the perfect time to do it - they'll love making gifts for their teachers & grandparents.

Here are three of the 5 projects we'll be making:

The top middle item is a Cake in a Cup - a decorated mug filled with a single serving of Chocolate Cake - easily microwaved in the cup - frosting included!

Snowman punch art card.

Spooning up Hugs & Kisses treat.

These classes have been filling up so fast! I'm hoping to offer one every few months.

I have one opening left on Saturday, December 12th at 2 pm & two on Sunday December 13th at 2 pm. I'm keeping the classes small in size so the kids each get special attention. Cost is just $10 & children 5 & up are welcome to come with one adult.

Should be fun!

And the following weekend we're planning a 'Holiday Time Out' - a day to get away from the hustle & bustle of the Holiday prep & enjoy some crafting time just for you. We're hosting an open crop at the Brentmoor here in Minot, ND from 10 am - 7 pm on Sunday the 13th. We will have cards & possibly other projects available that day. Watch my blog in the next week or so as I might be posting some of them. One of my plans is to do '$1 cards'. Make as many of each card as you want!

Holiday Lounge

I knew I loved this pack of Designer Series Paper when it first came out, but I'm realizing that anything I do with it turns out beautiful. This is another card we did at a few of my last workshops.

I used the Merry & Bright rub-ons on the Taken with Teal ornament. So fun & easy - I love how the rub-ons match the punch so perfectly. Hint - apply the rub on before punching the ornament. Get easy placement by turning the punch upside down & looking through the punch to get it perfect.

The Ruby Red ornament was done by first running a piece of card stock through the Big Shot using the Petals-a-Plenty embossing folder before punching. Then we added a few dots with the Signo white gel pen on the flower centers.

Each ornament was popped up with dimensionals & a string of gold elastic cord was wrapped over the edge of the triple DSP layered piece & held in place with mini glue dots.

The three 1 1/4" X 3 1/3" strips of DSP are layerd onto a piece of Kraft CS measuring 3 1/2" X 4".

Here's how we did the inside.

We cut out a Top Note with the Big Shot & applied Gold Encore ink with either sponges or used the edge of the ink pad directly onto it. We also inked the greeting in Gold Encore ink & embossed the whole thing with Iridescent Ice EP (My favorite embossing powder for the holidays!). It's a beautiful soft sparkly gold when finished - the photo doesn't do it justice at all!

And then finished it off with a few of the Serene Snowflakes stamped in Taken with Teal.

Turkey Day Punch Art Scrapbook Layout

I haven't been using my punch art on my Scrapbook pages! Why haven't I?? No clue!

I thought it was high time to include some!

One of my Clubs meets in December & this is what we'll be doing. Of course I have no photos to put on their 'yet'. But I plan to add at least 5 or more - 2 on the left page & three on the right top. This layout cased from lajeanmuegge here.

I used SU's simple alphabet dies to cut the letters from various fall patterned papers. But I hope to take enough photos of food on Turkey Day to change them to 'food' letters! Love the option of die-cutting these letters out of whatever I want to!

The Jumbo Bright Blessings wheel doesn't show up well here, but it was wheeled in a fall spectrum pad. Unfortunately we do not sell these anymore, but I always loved them - especially for jumbo wheels.

The pumpkins are punched from 1" circles, small ovals & wide ovals.

To make the turkey, you need to punch 1" & a 1 3/8" circles for the body. For the feathers, I used the small oval punch in Ruby Red, More Mustard, Really Rust & Chocolate Chip. The feet & beak are Mustard - feet - Boho Blossoms punch; beak - 5 Petal Flower punch trimmed a bit narrow. His 'waddle' was done with the scallop circle punch - how? - see this post for an example.

Mover's & Shapers double tutorial

Remember this card? I received one like it in a Founders Circle swap from Kim Cagle.

It caught me off guard when I first saw it, & I know others have wondered just how it's done, so I'll show you how you can make this card.

This is a template my friend & downline Jane thought of to make it easy for people to get it perfect every time. We traced the opening in the punched card where the Mover & Shaper die should be placed & outlined it for placement of the wood die. Remember these dies are magnetized so they stay exactly as placed in the Curly Label Bigz XL die.

Run your card stock through the first time with the die in this place - it doesn't really matter which one is first - upper or lower. It's just how I did it.

By the way, I pre-cut my cards into 4 1/4 X 11" before I run them through this die. You do not really need to use a 12 X 6" CS for this die. If you press one end of the 4 1/4 X 11" card stock slightly into the open end of this large die, it stays put & you'll have a perfect sized card of the same shape when done. If it's not placed just so inside the die cutting lines, it can cut off a sliver of CS making the end card uneven. If that does happen, I just trim it to even the edges.

Here is the end result of the die cutting we did. You can choose to use the embossing folder before or after you cut out the ornaments. You just need to figure out which way is 'up' on the embossing folder - so you get the raised edge on the correct side.

Here's a photo of the inside again. Remember that after you have your two ornament shapes cut out of the card front, you just stamp & punch out two ornaments & place them over & through the open holes on front of the closed card. We popped up the second, top ornament.

November Card Club - Easel Card Tutorial

Here are the cards we did this month at my Card Clubs:

These are similar to one I received in the Founder's Circle swap from Beth Ann Wilson. Click on the photo for a clearer view.

The snow globes are made with the Snowfall printed window sheets in the Holiday mini catalog. They were cut out using the largest circle on the Circles #2 die & the Big Shot. We sponged the edge with white Stazon ink. Club members chose either a penguin or a snowman & also had a choice of sentiments. The black base is also one of the circles in the Circles #2 die - the second largest one.

The red background CS is textured using the Perfect Details SU texturz plate & spritzed with Shimmer Spray - 2 oz of rubbing alcohol with 1/2 tsp of Champagne shimmer paint.

The penguin is from Punch Pals & the snowman is from Snow Buddies in the Holiday mini catalog.

I got the idea for this next card from Sandi MacIver here. Check out her blog - she does incredible projects!

I changed it up a little by making aged paper for the background pieces instead of using Designer Series paper like she did.

The left card is open; the right set up into an easel. It folds flat for sending. It's 4 1/4" square when finished so it fits into a regular A2 envelope.

I love this easy, fun fold! Here's what you need:

The main card is cut at 4 1/4" X 8 1/2" from Chocolate Chip CS. Score this piece at 2" & 4 1/4".

You'll need one more piece of the same color of card stock (Choc Chip) cut into a 4 1/4" square.

For layering, you need two pieces cut at 4" square. These are adhered to the 4 1/4" areas - one on the folded card & 1 on the 4 1/4" piece.

Our 4 X 4" squares are Creamy Caramel. We used the Direct to Paper technique to give both the Creamy Caramel & a piece of Vanilla card stock a beautiful golden 'aged' look. The Vanilla was for the clock & sentiments. To do this just rub your Classic ink pad directly over the card stock in a circular motion like you're washing it. We used Creamy Caramel & Close to Cocoa. Hint: Be sure to keep your Vanilla piece lighter than the Caramel one. And if your ink pads are well inked, you need to use a very light hand so the card stock doesn't get too dark. Otherwise you won't see the clock well.

Then onto this aged Vanilla paper we stamped the Clock & sentiments using Chocolate Chip Craft ink & embossed it with clear embossing powder. The 'second hand' part of the clock was stamped once more; embossed, cut out & popped up on dimensionals over the main clock.

You attach the 4 1/4" square onto the 2" area of the folded main card to get the easel effect. You need to attach something raised on the bottom area to keep it in place. We used a sentiment up on dimensionals, but a button or other embellishment would also work.

Card stock - Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, Creamy Caramel
