Could Trump actually be good for Muslims and Islam in America ?

Donald Trump has moved seamlessly from President-elect to President.
In fact, so seamless has been the transition that he seems identical to the one who started as the prospective Republican nominee

Trump is just as egocentric, brash, brazen and still as Twitter-obsessed as he has always been. For all his faults, one thing that he is not is fickle. He has unashamedly maintained his anti-Muslim rhetoric which has, true to his words, now been enacted through one of his many executive orders.Trump famously campaigned on a pledge to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. This pledge has seen Trump sign an executive order banning migration into the United States from seven Muslim countries.

The ban is without the doubt illegal under US law, however, try telling that to Trump and his entourage.

This is all quite surreal. At each and every step of his journey, from a business tycoon to President of the United States of America, I kept thinking that he would fall at the next hurdle. Instead, he has, from the lofty heights of the Oval Office, now signed a piece of paper to execute the ban he so unashamedly advocated.

One thing he never accounted for was the swathe of sympathy that such blatantly discriminatory policies would generate within the American public. Up and down the United States, people have protested, demonstrated and shown solidarity with the Muslims. Protests have taken place in many cities and airports including Washington, Orlando, Atlanta, and Seattle.

Such solidarity with the Muslims is not an isolated incident. Actress Kathy Najimy encouraged all women to wear a hijab or headscarf at an anti-inauguration demonstration held in Washington. She described it as a way to stand alongside their “about-to-be-disenfranchised Muslim Sisters”

Levels of discontent and protest have now spread across the world
Demonstrations have even been happening in towns and cities across the United Kingdom

A petition to prevent Trump attending a State Visit to the United Kingdom has attracted nearly 2 million signatures and counting. Their displeasure is clearly indicative of a nation which feels that the UK should not welcome a president who has the audacity to implement a ban on Muslims’ in his own country. Added to this invitation, which is being seen as tacit consent to the Trump order, there is resentment that the visit would be a State Visit with all its pomp and ceremony and paid via the public purse.

Each and every day since the enactment of this executive order matters related to the high office of the President of the United States of America have reduced to near farcical levels. Trump has now retracted on the position that this is a Muslim ban. This despite Rudy Giuliani, former New York City Mayor and a confidant to Trump, acknowledging on Fox News that this was a backdoor Muslim ban. Additionally, Trump in true business-like style has had the audacity to sack the acting attorney general, Sally Yates, for doing her job and questioning the legality of the executive order.

As they say, you ain’t seen nothing yet when it comes to solidarity with the Muslims. If Trump decides to stand the course of developing a database for Muslims, then pro-Muslim solidarity may soar to unprecedented levels. In fact, Madeleine Albright, the former Secretary of State and actress Mayim Bialik have both stated their intentions to register as Muslim if that was the case.

Such acts of solidarity remind me of the famous story of the conversion of Hamza (raḍiy Allahu anhu), the uncle of our beloved Prophet (sall Allahu alayhi wa sallam). Hamza (raḍiy Allāhu anhu) initially stated that he was a Muslim to antagonise Abu Jahl as an act of solidarity for his persecuted nephew (sall Allahu alayhi wa sallam). This act of solidarity became the catalyst of Hamza’s eventual conversion to Islām.

Despite all the rhetoric, discrimination, bigotry and downright anti-Islamic policies in recent times, it is almost unbelievable that four polls conducted of the American public in the last year has revealed “extraordinary, progressive and unexpected” positive attitudes towards Muslims and Islam.

Evidence seems to indicate that this is a result of opposing the views and sentiments of Trump himself. There is now a very simple barometer to gauge whether an American is progressive, just, fair and equitable you just need to oppose Trump’s policies. Hence, the more Trump continues on with his policies based on bigotry, the more it will draw Islām and Muslims closer to the American public.

As Almighty Allah says in the Glorious Quran, But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.“They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.”

Despair not, as hard as it may be to stomach. Trump may actually be good for Muslims and Islam.

Ali bin Abi Thalib’s (ra) Mathematical Brilliance

Imam Ali bin Abi Thalib (karramallahu wajhah) was endowed with a quick, sharp, incisive, mathematics mind. Here are a few interesting stories in which Imam Ali’s mathematical brilliance revealed itself.

Whole Number and not a Fraction

One Day a Jewish person came to Imam Ali, thinking that since Imam Ali thinks he is too smart, I’ll ask him such a tough question that he won’t be able to answer it and I’ll have the chance to embarrass him in front of all the Arabs.

He asked “Imam Ali, tell me a number, that if we divide it by any number from 1-10 the answer will always come in the form of a whole number and not as a fraction.”

Imam Ali looked back at him and said, “Take the number of days in a year and multiply it with the number of days in a week and you will have your answer.”

The Jewish person got astonished but as he was a polytheist (Mushrik), he still didn't believe Imam Ali. He calculated the answer Imam Ali gave him.

To his amazement he came across the following results:

- The number of Days in a Year = 360 (in Arab)

- The Number of Days in a Week = 7

- The product of the two numbers = 360×7=2520

Now…

2520 ÷ 1 = 2520

2520 ÷ 2 = 1260

2520 ÷ 3 = 840

2520 ÷ 4 = 630

2520 ÷ 5 = 504

2520 ÷ 6 = 420

2520 ÷ 7 = 360

2520 ÷ 8 = 315

2520 ÷ 9 = 280

2520 ÷ 10= 252

The Five Loaves of Bread

Zarr Bin Hobeish relates this story: Two travellers sat together on the way to their destination to have a meal. One had five loaves of bread. The other had three. A third traveller was passing by and at the request of the two joined in the meal. The travellers cut each of the loaf of bread in three equal parts. Each of the traveller ate eight broken pieces of the loaf.

At the time of leaving the third traveller took out eight dirhams and gave to the first two men who had offered him the meal, and went away. On receiving the money the two travellers started quarrelling as to who should have how much of the money. The five-loaf-man demanded five dirhams. The three-loaf-man insisted on dividing the money in two equal parts (4 dirhams each).

The dispute was brought to Imam Ali (the Caliph of the time in Arabia) to be decided.

Imam Ali requested the three-loaf-man to accept three dirhams, because five-loaf-man has been more than fair to you. The three-loaf-man refused and said that he would take only four dirhams.

At this Imam Ali replied, “You can have only one dirham. You had eight loaves between yourselves. Each loaf was broken in three parts. Therefore, you had 24 equal parts. 8×3=24

Your 3 loaves made 9 parts out of which you have eaten 8 portions, leaving just 1 piece to the third traveller. (3×3)-8=1

Your friend had 5 loaves which divided into 3 made 15 pieces. He ate 8 pieces and gave 7 pieces to the guest.(5×3)-8=7

As such the guest shared 1 part from your loaves and 7 from those of your friend. So you should get one dirham and your friend should receive seven dirhams.”

Dividing Inheritance (Warits)

What is a wife’s share?

Imam Ali was once interrupted while he was delivering a sermon from the pulpit by someone who asked him how to distribute the inheritance of someone who had died leaving a wife, his parents and two daughters. The Imam instantly answered:

“The wife’s share becomes one ninth.” How?

This answer is in fact the result of a long analysis with a number of steps. Ordinarily, we have to decide on the original share of each of these heirs, in the following way:

The wife takes one eighth, in view of the presence of an inheriting child. [Holy Quran 4:12]

The deceased’s father and mother take one sixth each. [Holy Quran 4:11]

The two daughters take two thirds of the inheritance. [Holy Quran 4:11]

So the total will be: 1/8 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 2/3 = 3/24 + 4/24 + 4/24 + 16/24 = 27/24

This means the share becomes less than 1/8 in view of the increase of the total of the shares which are so fixed and prescribed. So the one eighth, the original share due to the wife out of twenty-four total shares, has become three shares out of a total of twenty-seven, which is one ninth.

Imam Ali’s mind went through this complex mathematical process in a second!

A fakir once set out on a long journey, carrying with him a bundle filled with bread to eat on the way. At the end of the first day on the road he came to a small mosque, and there he rested for the night. Resuming his journey early the next morning, he walked at a brisk pace for about ten miles and then decided to have a bite to eat. But when he opened his bundle, he found that his bread was full of ants. “Ah, that is too bad,” he thought. “For I have taken these poor ants a long way away from their home in that mosque. How they must be longing to see their parents, children and friends." Filled with solicitude for the welfare of the ants, the fakir retraced his steps and took the ants back to their home in the little mosque. “The heart in which love and compassion for all living beings resides, can have no room for seeking after personal pleasures.”

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

Belief in al-qadar (the divine will and decree) is one of the pillars of faith, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, when he answered Jibreel’s question about faith: “(It means) believing in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers and the Last Day, and to believe in al-qadar (the divine decree) both good and bad.”

What is meant by al-qadar is that Allah has decreed all things from eternity and knows that they will happen at times that are known to Him, and in specific ways, and that He has written that and willed it, and they happen according to what He has decreed.
[al-Qada’ wa’l-Qadar by Dr ‘Abd al-Rahmaan al-Mahmoud, p. 39].

Belief in al-qadar is based on four things:

Knowledge, i.e., that Allah knows what His creation will do, by virtue of His eternal knowledge.

Writing, i.e., that Allah has written the destiny of all creatures in al-Lawh al-Mahfooz.

Will, i.e., that what Allah wills happens and what He does not will does not happen. There is no movement in the heavens or on earth but it happens by His will.
Creation and formation, i.e., that Allah is the Creator of all things, including the actions of His slaves. They do their actions in a real sense, and He is the Creator of them and of their actions. Whoever believes in these four believes in al-qadar.

The Qur’aan affirms these things in numerous verses, such as the verses in which He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And with Him are the keys of the Ghayb (all that is hidden), none knows them but He. And He knows whatever there is in the land and in the sea; not a leaf falls, but He knows it. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a Clear Record” [al-An’aam 6:59]

“No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but it is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al‑Lawh Al‑Mahfooz) before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allah” [al-Hadeed 57:22]

“And you cannot will unless (it be) that Allah wills the Lord of the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists)” [al-Takweer 81:29]

“Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine Preordainments of all things before their creation as written in the Book of Decrees Al‑Lawh Al‑Mahfooz)” [al-Qamar 54:49]

Muslim (2653) narrated that ‘Abd-Allah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Allah wrote down the decrees of creation fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth.” He said: “And His Throne was upon the water.”

Hence it should be clear to you that the view that al-qadar was invented by al-Jahm ibn Safwaan is a view that has no sound basis. Al-qadar was not created, rather creation comes under the heading of belief in al-qadar. Al-Jahm went to extremes in affirming the divine will and decree, and claimed that people are compelled to do what they do and have no choice. This is a false view.

The belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah is that a person has freedom of will, and hence he will be rewarded or punished. But his will is subject to the will of Allah, and nothing can take place in the universe that is not willed by Allah.

What some people say, that we have the choice to follow whatever path we want but at the end of this path you will find what Allah has decreed for you, is a correct view. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful”[al-Insaan 76:3]

“And shown him the two ways (good and evil)?”[al-Balad 90:10]

“And say: “The truth is from your Lord.” Then whosoever wills, let him believe; and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve”[al-Kahf 18:29]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said, explaining the view of Ahl al-Sunnah with regard to man’s deeds:

People act in a real sense, and Allah is the Creator of their actions. A person may be a believer or a kaafir, righteous or immoral, he may pray and fast. People have control over their actions, and they have their own will, and Allah is the Creator of their control and will, as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight.

And you cannot will unless (it be) that Allah wills the Lord of the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists)”[al-Takweer 81:28-29]

Marriage is one of the things that Allah has decreed. The person whom you will marry is known to Allah: He knows who he is, when he was born, where and when he will die, how he will be towards you, and other details. All of that is known to Allah and He has written it in al-Lawh al-Mahfooz (the Book of Decrees), and it will inevitably come to pass as Allah has decreed.

If Allah has decreed that you will marry one person, but you choose someone else, then no matter how long it takes, you will marry that person. But your marriage to someone else is also decreed, because there is nothing that is not decreed by Allah. It may be decreed for a woman to marry So and so the son of So and so, and he comes to propose marriage but she refuses him, and marries someone else, then he (the second man) dies or divorces her, then she accepts the first one. All of that is decreed, and it is decreed for her to marry So and so the son of So and so after initially refusing him and after some experience or trials etc.

It may be decreed for a woman that a righteous man will propose marriage to her, but she will refuse him and he will never come back to her, and she will marry and live with someone else who is more or less righteous, according what Allah has decreed.

Because man does not know what is decreed for him, what he must do is to adhere to sharee’ah and abide by its commands and prohibitions, and to seek the help of Allah and pray to Him for guidance (istikhaarah) concerning all his affairs, whilst implementing the means, one of the most important of which is consulting sincere people who have relevant experience.

If a righteous man proposes marriage to a woman, she should pray to Allah for guidance (istikhaarah) and agree to marry him. If things then go smoothly, this is an indication that what is good for her is to marry him.

In conclusion, man should study the sharee’ah of Allah and follow the commands of Allah even if he feels reluctant, and avoid what Allah has forbidden even if he is attached to it. All goodness is to be found in obeying sharee’ah. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Jihaad (holy fighting in Allah’s Cause) is ordained for you (Muslims) though you dislike it, and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know”[al-Baqarah 2:216]

He should not look at al-qadar as an excuse to ignore commands and do forbidden things, rather he should look at it in a way that will make him content with whatever painful experiences happen to him.

Showing Disrespect to One’s Parents

One of major sin is showing disrespect to one's parents

In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful, the All-Compassionate

Allah, the Most High, says, {Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them but address them in terms of honour. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: “My Lord! Bestow on them Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.} (Al-Isra: 23-24)

Therefore, you should serve them as they did with you. But your service is not equal to theirs as they suffered a lot in bringing you up, hoping that you might live long. On the other hand, when you shoulder their burdens you hope that they will die soon.

Adhan (Call to Prayer)

What do you feel every single time you hear the adhan?

Do you feel the urge to answer it by going for salah or are you among those who just hear it just like the chirping of the birds (it’s just normal)?

Did you know that adhan itself was a weapon of the Muslims against their enemies during the time of the Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhum?

YES, the adhan itself brought such fear in the hearts of the disbelievers!Let me share to you a story that happened during the battle of Al Qadisiyyah.

When Emperor Rustam of Persia reached An-Najaf near Al Qadisiyyah, he spent a spy to the Muslim camp. This spy was such a keen observant that he was thoroughly studying the movements of the Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhum.

When he returned to Rustam, he told him about the character and all other information regarding the Muslim army.

The army of Rustam reached Al Qadisiyyah and encamped between the River ‘Atiq and the fort.

While taking a stroll, he heard the muadhdhin call for Fajr prayer and saw them preparing to stand up for it.

Rustam immediately ordered his troops to mount their animals and be ready. When he was asked why, he said, "Can’t you see that the battle cry was shouted among the enemy and now they are getting ready?"

The same spy spoke up, "They are getting ready for prayers."

Rustam exclaimed in Persian and said, "I heard a sound in the morning, it must have been ‘Umar speaking to his dogs, teaching them some tricks. When they speak like this, be ready for battle."

When the muadhdhin called again for Duhur prayer, Rustam lamented, "It feels as if ‘Umar has eaten my liver!"

May Allah forgive me but whenever I read this story I couldn't stop myself but laugh at how scared Rustam was against the Muslim army. A fear of unknown, I must say, for Rustam couldn't comprehend and understand such strength and from where do they get such strength. Allahu’akbar.

O Muslims, we should all realize our strength, that with Islam Allah Azza Wa Jall has promised us victory. Indeed, this story is such a great portrayal of this ayah:

"And never will Allah grant to the unbelievers a way (to triumph) over the believers." Qur’an 24:141

Allahu’akbar!

Remember each time adhan is called, in every nation, the triumph of Islam is heard and every living thing attest to it! How blessed are those who answer this call and how blessed are those who recognize this blessing!

And we pray that Allah Azza Wa Jall makes us among those who regularly establish prayers.

1, Support of Both Husband and Wife

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool said:

‘A righteous woman may have characteristics which are not pleasing to her husband, however she must not be characterised with that, likewise a righteous man may have characteristics not pleasing to his wife. what is required from them both is to overlook these characteristics, and view matters in a good light.

From Abu Hurairah who said the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:

لاَ يَفْرَكْ مُؤْمِنٌ مُؤْمِنَةً ، إِنْ كَرِهَ مِنْهَا خُلُقًا رَضِيَ مِنْهَا آخَرَ

‘A believing man does not hate a believing woman, if he dislikes a behaviour in her, then he will be pleased with another type of behaviour.’[Collected by Muslim in his Saheeh.]

2 , A Son is From His Father

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool said:

‘A son is from that which a father strove to acquire, so no matter what good actions he does, the reward reaches his father also. However, no matter what he does of evil deeds they do not reach his father, rather they only reach the son himself.

Allaah said:

{وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَى }

And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad) [Najm: 39]

Allaah said:

{قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ فَلاَ تَسْأَلْنِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَن تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ }

He said: O Nuh! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you so that you should not be one of the ignorant. Hud: 46

Allaah said:

{وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى وَإِن تَدْعُ مُثْقَلَةٌ إِلَى حِمْلِهَا لَا يُحْمَلْ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَا قُرْبَى إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالغَيْبِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَمَن تَزَكَّى فَإِنَّمَا يَتَزَكَّى لِنَفْسِهِ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ الْمَصِيرُ}

And no bearer of burdens shall bear another’s burden; and if one heavily laden calls another to bear his load, nothing of it will be lifted even though he be near of kin. You can warn only those who fear their Lord unseen and establish as-Salat (the prayer). And he who purifies himself (from all kinds of sins), then he purifies only for the benefit of his own self. And to Allaah is the final return of all. Fatir: 18

3, Responsibility of Every Muslim

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool said:

‘Every Muslim has a flock for which he is responsible. No Muslim carries a responsibility for another person, and a Muslim has a contract that he will not contest the command of those who hold that authority.

From Ibn Umar from the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- that he said:

“أَلَا كُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ فَالْأَمِيرُ الَّذِي عَلَى النَّاسِ رَاعٍ وَهُوَ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ وَالرَّجُلُ رَاعٍ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ وَهُوَ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْهُمْ وَالْمَرْأَةُ رَاعِيَةٌ عَلَى بَيْتِ بَعْلِهَا وَوَلَدِهِ وَهِيَ مَسْئُولَةٌ عَنْهُمْ وَالْعَبْدُ رَاعٍ عَلَى مَالِ سَيِّدِهِ وَهُوَ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْهُ أَلَا فَكُلُّكُمْ رَاعٍ وَكُلُّكُمْ مَسْئُولٌ عَنْ رَعِيَّتِهِ”

‘Indeed you are all shepherds and every one of you is responsible for his flock. So the leader of the people is a shepherd and he is responsible for his flock, and a man is a shepherd for the people of his household and he is responsible for them. A woman is a shepherd for her husband’s home, and her children, and she is responsible for them. A slave is a shepherd for his master’s wealth and he is responsible for it. Indeed all of you are shepherds and every one of you is responsible for his flock.’ [Collected by Bukhari & Muslim]

Some of the people request from other people to fulfill that what is obligatory upon other than themselves, so they end up dragging Islaam and the Muslims into chaos and corruption. From that is the matters of and for the country and what is connected to those issues, from the matters and activities of the one in authority, and repelling any harm between countries is from the right of the one in authority. Therefore, the matter is entrusted to him, and he is not contested in that. As for the general folk rising up to repel that, then this is contesting the authority of those who posses it. It is upon us to convey to those who are in authority what we want, and they deal with it not us.

From Ubadah bin Samit -Radhi Allaahu anhu- who said:

“بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فِي الْعُسْرِ وَالْيُسْرِ وَالْمَنْشَطِ وَالْمَكْرَهِ وَعَلَى أَثَرَةٍ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى أَنْ لَا نُنَازِعَ الْأَمْرَ أَهْلَهُ وَعَلَى أَنْ نَقُولَ بِالْحَقِّ أَيْنَمَا كُنَّا لَا نَخَافُ فِي اللَّهِ لَوْمَةَ لَائِمٍ”

All praise is due to Allah Lord of the Realms, that didn’t begot nor had an associate in His dominance or deity. The One only God, and there is no other creator or Lord except Him. The One worthy of all kinds of worship where he destined upon us not to worship anyone except Him, as he the only True One and anything else called for is false, and that He is the Most High the Most Great.

I praise you O Lord and I seek Your aid, forgiveness and guidance. I cannot enumerate Your praise. You are as You have praised Yourself, Glorified be Your praise Great be your Glory and there is no God except You.

I testify that there is no god Except Allah with no associate, the One that Has no match, The Eternally Besought with no opponent, The All-Sufficient with no need for anything, The Most Strong that isn’t defeated by anything in the heavens and earth, The Compeller of the heavens and earth, nothing can reject His command, His destiny and command are not to be reviewed, He is The First nothing preceded him, He is The Last nothing succeeds Him, He is The Evident nothing prevails Him, He is The immanent nothing beneath Him, and He is Omnipotent over everything.

I hereby testify that Muhammad is His servant, Messenger, and the one He chose from among His creatures….., fulfilled the message, passed on the trust, advised the nation and Allah cleared through him gloominess and he fought in Allah’s cause sincerely until the time of his death. O Allah reward him on our behalf the best of reward You ever bestowed on a Prophet for his nation and a Messenger for his effort in calling to Allah, O Allah bestow your prayers, peace and blessings upon him, and upon his family, companions, lovers, followers and upon whomever followed his guidance and carried out his Sunnah following his footsteps till the day of Judgment.

O beloved ones for the sake of Allah lets roam around in the gardens of the Qur`an, in our first gathering of the interpretation of Surat Mariam. I ask Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, to let it be a blessed interpretation that will benefit us in this life and the hereafter He is The Facilitator of it and He is over everything Omnipotent.

This Makkan Surah covers one of the most crucial issues in this religion, the issue of creed that the Christians have distorted, changed and manipulated. Hence, insulting Allah, Glorified and Exalted be he, is a grave insult where one of their sects say “Jesus is God”, another say “Jesus is the son of God” and the third claim “He is third of three”, Exalted be He from what the Christians claim.

Let’s find out more about this corrupt belief and this distorted religion whereupon you will prostrate to Allah in gratitude that you are amongst the monotheists to Allah, Glorified and Exalted Be He, and followers of Muhammad, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him.

We shall be acquainted to this creed through a brief introduction in this session and another session following if Allah, Glorified and Exalted Be He, wills. It will be a swift and brief introduction highlighting the basics of the Christians creed using facts not claimed from our side so we would not be accused of fanaticism and extremism. What we will say in this blessed session and the one following it be the Might of Allah and his support, Glorified and Exalted Be He, is not in our own words or speech, rather it will be a man who drank from their springs, wore what they wore embraced their religion and creed. However Allah, Glorified and Exalted Be He, opened his heart to embrace the truth, whereupon he declared the oneness of Allah, Glorified and Exalted Be He, and his belief in Muhammad the Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him.

Rabi’a al Dousary The Man With Passion Of Islam

A Saudi father pardoned his son’s killer if he successfully memorized the Holy Quran, a local newspaper reported on Saturday.

Rabi’a al-Dousary, father of the slain young man named Abdullah, promised to pardon the convicted felon, Faisal al-Ameri, if he successfully memorized all of the Holy Quran before leaving prison, al-Yawm Saudi newspaper reported.

Ameri was sentenced to death for killing Dousary during a quarrel that erupted in their neighborhood.

The Higher Committee of Correction in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom has persuaded the father to forgive and pardon Ameri.

The father, who refused to receive any blood money, to teach the Ameri a far more valuable lesson, insisted on one condition: the killer to fully memorize the Quran before his acquittal from prison.

This is the true passion of Islam, This is the true mercy from believer of Allah, This is the lesson every Muslim brother and sister need to learn.. To be believer we must be kind and merciful to all humanity,

Challenges of Women Space in Masjids

Last Friday, I was all set to give a Khutba about the need for Muslims to plan ahead on an individual and community level. My notes were ready and I was in full “Khutba mode”. But before sermon time, I decided to change the topic completely — to talk about the exclusion of Muslim women from the mosque and community life.

It wasn’t an earth-shattering event that made me change the topic. It was an email. And it proved to be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. It was one of five emails I received last week about Islamic events with a clear “brothers only” statement. One notice for a regional conference even stated categorically that there was no space for women and children under 15 at the event.

But the emails were only part of the story. A week before, I had given a Khutba in another, brand-new mosque in the heart of Chicago. After the prayer, while in the elevator, I overheard four Muslim sisters speaking angrily about their experience in the Masjid.

“If I wanted to watch TV, I’d stay home,” said one of the women, disgusted. I asked them what was wrong, and they told me how they could only see the Imam through a TV system set up in the women’s section. Moreover, the space was inconvenient, uncomfortable and was changed twice that day. This was despite the fact that months ago, the leadership of this mosque had promised me that they would involve sisters in decision-making about how the women’s space would be set up.

The Khutba

I was speaking in Chicago’s oldest mosque where the main prayer hall accommodates about a thousand people. It has a small, curtained off space in the corner for about 40 or so women. Due to the sensitive nature of my topic, it did occur to me before the Khutba that I might not be invited to give a Friday sermon there in the future. Nonetheless, I made the following points and asked these questions:

Who decides how women’s space in the mosque is allocated and organized?

How many women sit on the Board of Directors of our mosques?

If women are part of the Board of Directors, are they elected, chosen by women, selected by both men and women or are they simply the wives of male board members?

I also reminded the audience that in the Prophet’s mosque, women could hear and see the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings are upon him, and later, the leaders of the Muslims (Khulafa) when they spoke from the pulpit. Actually there are reports of interaction with the Prophet when women raised questions. Caliph Omar even went back to give another sermon to withdraw his opinion when a women from the audience gave him critical feedback after his Khutba.

Moreover, when the Prophet felt that the women were too far away to hear or he had specific points to make, he would walk over to their section and present a Khutba for them.

Examples from Islamic history

Women in early Islamic history were active not just as “mothers and wives” but contributed as individual Muslim women in all aspects of the community.

On a scholarly level, there was Aisha, may God be pleased with her. She is credited with disseminating the knowledge of Islam and information about almost all aspects of Islamic life. Today, nearly half of the Islamic jurisprudence of the Hanafi school of thought (which is followed by about 70 percent of the Muslim world) comes through the students of Aisha alone.

On a political level, there was Umm Salama. During the signing of the Treaty of Hudaibiya, when none of the Muslim men agreed to forego Hajj due to the demands of the pagan Meccans, the Prophet consulted Umm Salama. Her advice to him was to perform the rituals indicating that they would not be performing the pilgrimage, and the Muslims would follow. He heeded her advice, and as she suggested, the Muslims accepted this.

After the death of the Prophet, one major issue was how to preserve the authenticity of the Quran. Although the Quran had always been committed to memory and writing, the written pages were scattered. When a master copy was put together at the time of the first Khalifa, Abu Bakr, that copy was not kept with him or any other Muslim man. It was kept with a woman — Hafsa (may God be pleased with her).

Finally, in Madina during the leadership of Omar (may God be pleased with him) Al Shifa Bint Abdullah was made in charge of trade and commerce in the city.

These are just a few examples of the dynamic role women played in early Islamic history. But they are of no use if the inclusion of Muslim women in the mosque and community is reflected only in theory.

“Men’s Islam” or Islam for All

While sisters are a full part of the community, many mosques are run as though Islam is just for men. This is evident by looking at women’s spaces, their decoration, their uncomfortable size and design, the absence of women from the Board of Directors of most mosques and the relegation of their activism and ideas to a “women’s committee”.

Muslim women in North America are as professional as Muslim men and contribute as generously. I remember fundraising in a New Jersey Masjid. Five Muslim women contributed $25,000 each within the first 12 minutes. It inspired me to ask the audience: is there a man who can match these donations?

And that’s how women’s participation is. They know they will not get to Jannah because of the good deeds of their husbands. Each man and women has to find his or her own way to success in this world and next, knowing that God’s promise is this:

“I will deny no man or woman among you the reward of their labors. You are the offspring of one another.” (Quran 3:195).

“Each person shall reap the fruits of his/her own deeds: no soul shall bear another’s burden.” (Quran 6:164)

The Reaction to the Khutba

Normally, two or three people will approach me after a Khutba to thank and compliment me for it. This time, ten times more people came over, appreciating what I had said, Alhamdu lillah. That’s one of the most positive instances of feedback I’ve ever gotten in years of giving Khutbas! Although I have yet to hear the response from the leadership of the Masjid, this gives me hope that the community is ready for change.

A few board members also spoke very positively about the points I raised, including one of the founding members. The question is, who is stopping the change?

Current Chicago Masjid Spaces for Women

In Chicago, I estimate that in about ten percent of the Friday prayer locations, there is proper space for sisters’ participation. In these places men and women are in the same location without a curtain or wall separating them. In terms of the remaining 80 percent of mosques that do have a space for women, these are often cramped and inconvenient. By inconvenient, I mean that women cannot see the Imam or do not know what is happening in the congregational prayer. In about 10 percent of the Chicago-area mosques there are no spaces for women.

One Muslim sister in the city related to me her experience after visiting one of the largest mosques in Chicago that had an inconvenient room for women. When she entered the women’s area, a group of sisters was standing in line, thinking prayer had started because the recitation of the Quran could be heard. Taking Quran recitation as a cue for congregational prayer, the sister joined the others in line. After several minutes, when the man ended his recitation without calling for the next step of prayer, Ruku, the women learned that it was not a prayer. Needless to say, the women were humiliated and upset about this confusing situation. This is just an example of the practical problems this segregation in prayer places causes.

An additional problem in mosques where women cannot see the Imam is the fact that the noise level often becomes unacceptable. This tends to be because most men dump the responsibility for taking care of their active children on their wives when they go to the men’s section of mosque. Also, since women can’t see what’s going on, they end up talking to each other. This leads to the Imam asking women to “be quiet please,” furthering tension and exclusion.

When women are out of sight, it’s also more likely that they will be out of mind. That means their discourse and participation are ignored on a Masjid and community level. Moreover, few women have easy access to the Imam, which worsens the problem, since the Imam is the one man who can make a significant difference in bringing women’s issues and problems to the attention of other Muslim men in the community. This perhaps explains why you don’t normally hear many Khutbas on women’s challenges here in America or abroad.

Negative Dawa

The situation becomes worse when non- Muslims visit. They see there are hardly any women present in the mosque. Or, if there are a few, they are confined to a small and less ceremonious corner. What kind of Dawa is this? What kind of impression does this give in our current context, where the battle against stereotypes is ten times harder than it was pre-9/11 America? This visual impact is far greater and far more lasting then tens of books lauding the status of women in Islam. Since Shahadah (witnessing) is the first pillar of Islam, this obstacle to outreach must be dealt with.

Of course, women, unlike men, are given a choice by the Prophet to pray at home or in the mosque. But the Prophet was categorical in telling men “do not stop women from coming to the Masjid.” Friday prayers are also optional for women. But considering that Friday sermons are the only Islamic educational opportunity available to most women in the North America Muslim women should attend Friday prayers. This is especially important because we do not yet have a widespread tradition of female teachers, as is the case in the Muslim world. I am pretty sure Caliph Omar would have encouraged Friday prayer attendance by women if he was alive today in the United States, may God be pleased with him.

Who is stopping women from the Masjid

Knowing both of these Masjids, their volunteer leadership, and the fact that women are on their boards, I don’t think either of them stops women from attending and participating. The first Masjid’s president did make an announcement twice in front of me inviting women to visit the new location to help determine the sisters’ space. I think, perhaps, need sisters taking these issues more seriously instead of accepting the current situation.

In the second Masjid, I learned that some sisters prefer to pray behind a curtain. An easy solution could be to make a larger area where women who do not want a curtain between the men and women, as was the practice in the mosque of the Prophet, can pray. Behind them, women who are comfortable praying behind a curtain can do this.

With lower donations as a result of donor chasing by the FBI, extra expenses for security and legal battles, which six or seven Masjids in the Chicago-area are going through, the last thing on the mind of Muslim leadership is women’s space. About 80 percent of the Masjids in the Chicago area do not have any permanent Imam. Volunteers like me are asked to offer the Friday sermon on a rotational basis. Almost all of these Masjids’ leaders are busy professionals who volunteer their time to run the community centers, schools and Masjids. Unless someone is pushing for something, things will continue as they have been.

This is why I have come to the conclusion that the agenda of women’s space will not come to the forefront unless Muslim women take it upon themselves.

Establishing a Muslim Women’s Caucus

It is time that sisters come together and provide leadership in clearly defining a Muslim women’s manifesto for change in mosques in North America. If these sisters are practicing Muslims, they will have a far higher level of success in demanding change and leading it.

I would like to make a plea to leading Muslim women in North America who are respected and honored by the community to call a national women’s caucus on these issues. In this conference, the following things need to be discussed and tackled:

1. An agenda outlining change in the Muslim community centers and Masjids in which

* Each Masjid should formally declare that it is unIslamic to stop women from attending a mosque

* The need to restore women’s space in the mosque as it was at the Prophet’s time (i.e. without a curtain or a wall separating men and women) is stressed

* Develop a welcoming space where they have a clear view of the Imam

2. One-third of Masjids’ Board of Directors should be composed of sisters, one-third of brothers, and one-third of people born in North America.

3. A mechanism for an ongoing Muslim Women’s Caucus needs to be developed

On the issue of women’s exclusion from the mosque, this Muslim Women’s Caucus may want to do the following:

1. Invite the leadership of major mosques, as well as national and continental Muslim organizations to a closed-door dialogue with an equal number of Muslim women leaders present.

2. Give a deadline to all Masjids that do not have a space for women to allocate one in consultation with women.

3. If space is extremely limited and there is no cultural and ideological objection to it, then allocate time for additional congregational prayer for women lead by women as was done by Umm Waraqa with the Prophet’s permission when she lead her staff regularly in prayers in her own home as reported by Sahih Abu Dawud. (If thousands of women lead other women in prayers throughout Pakistan, it can be done in a mosque here as well).

Shura (consultation) has been a way of life for Muslims (42:38). If our families and our communities are not run on Shura, open communication and proper representation, how will we grow?

“The true believers, both men and women, are friends to each other. They enjoin what is just and forbid what is evil; they attend to their prayers and pay the alms and obey God and His apostle. On these God will have mercy. He is Mighty and Wise.” (Quran 7:71)

Islamic Advice To Be A Better Person

Drink plenty of water.
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
Live with the 3 E’s - Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
Play more games.
Read more books than you did in 2011.
Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
Sleep for 7 hours.
Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.

Personality:

Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
Don’t have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
Don’t over do. Keep your limits.
Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.
Dream more while you are awake.
Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others.
Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
Smile and laugh more.
You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

Society:

Call your family often.
Each day give something good to others.
Forgive everyone for everything.
Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
Try to make at least three people smile each day.
What other people think of you is none of your business.
Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

Life:

Do the right thing!
Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
The best is yet to come.
Your Inner most is always happy. So, be happy.

Feeling Fed Up of This Life?

There are many reasons for hating this world. There are some people who dislike this transient world and long for that which is with Allah of reward, and who love to meet Allah. Hence some of the salaf said: “The gift of the believer is death.” For he detests this world and his heart is attached to the Hereafter. Yet despite his dislike for this world, he carries out his duties towards Allah and His slaves, and he strives to do good as much as he can, in accordance with the words of Allah (interpretation of the meaning):

“And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (i.e. death)” [al-Hijr15:99]

And there are some people who detest this world, not because of the Hereafter, but because they think that their share of it is very little, and that others are better off then them. Undoubtedly this is a kind of discontent with the will and decree of Allah, for Allah is the One Who bestows blessings and distributes provisions, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And if Allah were to enlarge the provision for His slaves, they would surely rebel in the earth, but He sends down by measure as He wills. Verily, He is, in respect of His slaves, the Well Aware, the All Seer (of things that benefit them)”

[al-Shoora 42:27]

Some people hate this world because they have been faced with a great deal of trial, stress and exhaustion in it. Undoubtedly these people do not understand the true nature of this world. This world is the realm of striving and trial, the realm of stress and exhaustion, especially for the righteous believer, who encounters all kinds of trials by means of which Allah expiates his sins and raises him in status. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, We have created man in toil” [al-Balad 90:4]

“Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: ‘We believe,’ and will not be tested.

3. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allah knows all that before putting them to test)” [al-‘Ankaboot 29:2-3]

“Allah will not leave the believers in the state in which you are now, until He distinguishes the wicked from the good. Nor will Allah disclose to you the secrets of the Ghayb (Unseen), but Allah chooses of His Messengers whom He wills. So believe in Allah and His Messengers. And if you believe and fear Allah, then for you there is a great reward” [Al ‘Imraan 3:179]

“And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As Saabiroon (the patient).

156. Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: “Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.”

157. They are those on whom are the Salawaat (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones”

[al-Baqarah2:155-157]

My dear brother… into which of these categories do you fall?

Remember how the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was tested. His people showed enmity towards him, and the closest of people to him resisted him. Some people slandered him, others persecuted him. He was thrown out of his home and was subjected to a harsh boycott. The kuffaar gathered together to kill him, and his wife Khadeejah (may Allah be pleased with her) died at the most difficult time. He would go for a month or two at a time without eating anything but dates and water. All of this happened even though he was the Prophet of Allah, and His Messenger, the one to whom Allah entrusted His Revelation. All of this happened even though he is the owner of the position of praise and glory (al-maqaam al-mahmoud) and the Cistern (al-hawd) to which his ummah will come (on the Day of Resurrection). All of this happened even though his sins, past and future, had been forgiven.

So what about us, with all our sins and shortcomings?

I advise you to do the following:

Firstly: make a lot of du’aa’, calling upon Allah, and seek to draw close to Him by different kinds of worship, such as praying, giving zakaah, fasting and so on. Beseech Allah to take away what is in your heart (of sorrow etc) and to grant you relief. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah — Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest”

Secondly: Understand that whatever Allah decrees for His believing slave is all good. No matter how difficult your life may become, to Allah belong all things in the heavens and the earth. So set things straight between yourself and Allah, and Allah will suffice you against having any need of people.

Thirdly: Your depression and tiredness may be because of something that you have missed out on and not acquired or achieved. In that case you should know how often a person has pursued something, not realizing that in it lay his doom; and how often has a person grieved for missing out on something he wanted, but he does not know that had he attained it, it would have spelled loss in both his spiritual and worldly affairs. So accept the will and decree of Allah, and seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless.

Fourthly: Check your heart and mind, and examine your relationship with Allah thoroughly, because a person may be denied provision because of sins that he commits.

Fifthly: You may have some personal or family problems; the way to solve these problems is by prioritizing them. Seek the help of Allah (first and foremost), then the help of experienced people to solve these problems, and resolve these issues.

Sixthly: remember that the most sorely tried of all people were the Prophets, then the next best and the next best. It is proven in al-Musnad from the hadeeth of Mus’ab ibn Sa’d that his father said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, which of the people are most sorely tested? He said: “The Prophets, then the righteous, then the next best, then the next best of people. A man will be tested according to his level of religious commitment. If there is some solidness in his religious commitment, he will be more sorely tested, and if there is some weakness in his religious commitment the test will be lightened for him. A man will continue to be tested until he walks upon the face of the earth with no sin on him.” Musnad al-Imam Ahmad, no. 1481. Shaykh Shu’ayb al-Arna’oot said: its isnaad is hasan. And it was classed as saheeh by al-albaani in saheeh al-jaami, ref no-992

Seventhly: Persist in praying for forgiveness and in worshipping. That is better for you than all the worldly steps you can take, no matter how great and how many they are. This will also relieve your worries. It was narrated in some reports that whoever persists in praying for forgiveness, Allah will grant him a way out from every worry and hardship and will grant him provision from sources he never thought of.

So persist in worshipping Allah, and act in accordance with the words of Allah (interpretation of the meaning):

“And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (i.e. death)” [al-Hijr 15:99]

“And strain not your eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to various groups of them (polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), the splendour of the life of this world, that We may test them thereby. But the provision (good reward in the Hereafter) of your Lord is better and more lasting”

[Ta-Ha 20:131]

May Allah help us and you to do and say that which is right. And Allah knows best.

Abu’l Atahiyya wrote to Harun ar-Rashid:

“Do not feel secure from death at any time

Even if you seek protection in your advisor’s and your guards,

know that the arrows of death are always pointing in our direction,

whatever armour and shields we may have.

Do you hope for forgiveness, when you have not trodden its paths?

A ship does not sail on dry land.”

And Allah loves As-Sabirun (the patient).
[Al Imran 3: 146]

Allah has made patience like a horse that never gets tired, an army that can never be defeated and a strong fortress that can never be breached.

Imam Sufyaan ath-Thawri advised:

“Be patient at all times and in all places, for patience leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. Do not become angry and furious, for those two emotions lead to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire.”

Ibn al-Qayyim wrote on patience:

“Patience is the foundation of the believer’s faith which has no other foundation. The one who has no patience has no faith, and if he has any, then it is only a little faith and it is very weak, and such a person worships Allaah as it were upon the edge (i.e. in doubt): if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts to disbelief after embracing Islam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter (cf. al-Hajj 22:11). All he gets from them is a losing deal.

The best life is attained by the blessed through patience, and they rise to the highest degrees through their gratitude. So they fly on the wings of patience and gratitude to gardens of delight (i.e., Paradise). That is the bounty of Allaah that He bestows upon whomsoever He will, and Allaah is the Owner of Great Bounty”.

VIRTUE OF FASTING ASHOORA

Praise be to Allaah

Firstly:

Fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ does expiate for the past year, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:“Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162. This is by the bounty that Allaah bestows upon us, whereby fasting one day expiates for the sins of a whole year. And Allaah is the Owner of great bounty.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to be very keen to make sure he fasted on the day of ‘Ashoora’ because of its great status. It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I never saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) so keen to make sure he fasted any day and preferring it over another except this day, the day of ‘Ashoora’, and this month – meaning Ramadaan. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1867.

What is meant by being keen to make sure he fasted it is so as to earn its reward.

Secondly:

With regard to the reason why the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on the day of ‘Ashoora’ and urged the people to do likewise is mentioned in the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (1865) from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Ashoora’. He said, “What is this?” They said, “This is a good day, this is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Moosa fasted on this day.” He said, “We have closer to Moosa than you.” So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.

The words “this is a good day” – according to a version narrated by Muslim, “This is a great day when Allaah saved Moosa and his people and drowned Pharaoh and his people.”

The words “so Moosa fasted on this day” – Muslim added in his report: “In gratitude to Allaah, so that is we fast on this day.”

According to another version narrated by al-Bukhaari, “So we fast it out of respect for it.”

The words “and told the people to fast” – according to another version narrated by al-Bukhaari, “He said to his companions, ‘You are closer to Moosa than them, so fast this day.”

Thirdly:

The expiation of sins that is achieved by fasting ‘Ashoora’ refers to minor sins; with regard to major sins, they need separate repentance.

Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Fasting the day of ‘Arafaah expiates for all minor sins, in othr words this brings forgiveness for all sins except for major sins.

Then he said:

Fasting the day of ‘Arafaah is an expiation for two years, and the day of ‘Ashoora is an expiation for one year, and if a person’s Ameen coincides with the Ameen of the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven… Each of the things mentioned may bring expiation. If he does something that expiates for minor sins he will be expiated, and if there are no minor or major sins, it will be recorded for him as good deeds and he will rise in status thereby… If there is one or more major sins and no minor sins, we hope that it will reduce his major sins. Al-Majmoo’ Sharh al-Muhadhdhab, part 6.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The expiation of purification, prayer, and fasting Ramadaan, ‘Arafah and ‘Ashoora’ applies to minor sins only. Al-Fataawa al-Kubra,

10 common mistakes in Prayer (Salah, Salat or Namaz) Prostration, Sujood in Namaz (Prayer, Salah, Salat)

Salat (Salah, Namaz) or Prayer is the most important pillar of Islam which will be questioned on the day of Resurrection. Performing Prayers is obligatory for every adult Muslim. Salah is a ritual prayer having prescribed conditions and one must perform Salaah while fulfilling those conditions. Many times we perform Prayers or Salah as a practice or a part of habit only but tend to forget the basic essence of Namaz and make many mistakes during Prayers. 10 common mistakes and errors in Prayers or Salah are discussed:

1. DELAYING IN THE SALAH INTENTIONALLY :

While being busy in worldly affairs we often delay the Salah from its preferred time. This is the most common mistake in Prayer made by most of us. We think that Praying is last thing to do and we must attend to other matters first. Many workers delay Zuhr and Asr Prayer till night-time. Quran speaks strictly on guarding our Salat:

“Guard strictly (five obligatory) As-Salawat (the prayers) especially the middle Salat (i.e. Asr Prayers)” [2:238]

Here to safeguard the Salat means to perform it at its prescribed time and to be steadfast upon it.

Narrated Ibn Umar (R.A): Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H) said: “Whoever misses the Asr prayers (intentionally), then it is as if he lost his family and property.” [Al-Bukhari]

Another Hadith explains the importance of praying on time:

Narrated Abu Al-Malih (R.A): “We were with Buraidah in a battle on a cloudy day and he said, “Offer the Asr prayer early as the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said, “Whoever omits the Asr prayer, all his (good) deeds will be lost.” [Al-Bukhari]

2. RECITING THE HOLY QURAN FAST IN THE PRAYERS :

We must pause and take breaks while reciting Holy Quran during Salat. We should not recite the Surah’s so fast that that the verse get intermingled. One of the Hadith emphasizes this issue:“The Prophet (P.B.U.H) used to pause after each verse of Surah al-Fatiha. [Abu Dawood]

3. MOVING BEFORE THE IMAM IN CONGREGATIONAL PRAYERS:

One should not race with the imam i.e. try to move before the Imam or with the Imam because the correct ruling is when Imam says Allahu Akbar, then the person who’s following the Imam in Prayers should say Allahu Akbar. Not before Imam or with Imam. Like this Hadith of the Prophet (P.B.U.H) states:
“Surely the imam is there to be followed” [Muslim]

Another Hadith states:

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: “Does not the one who raises his head before the Imam does fear that Allah would transform his head into a donkey’s head” [Muslim]

4. PERFORMING THE SALAH HASTILY :

Salat should be performed slowly and calmly. Rukoo or Sujood must be performed unhurriedly. In order to complete the Rukoo one must stay in Rukoo posture long enough to recite “Subhan Rabbi yal Adtheem” at least three times. In the same manner, for the Sujood the person should say “Subhan-na Rabbi yal-ala” three times slowly. This Hadith commands to complete the Rukoo and Sujood in proper manner:
The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H) said: “The worst thief is the one who steals from his own prayer.” People asked: ‘Messenger of Allah! How could one steal from his own prayer?’ He said: “By not completing its rukoo and sujood” [at-Tabarani]

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: “He who does not complete his rukoo and sujood, his prayer is void” [Abu Dawood]

5. GAZING RIGHT, LEFT OR UPWARD DURING SALAT :

While performing Salah, one should concentrate on looking to the point where the head is placed during Sujood rather than looking upwards. Because this may lose concentration. In the Hadith recorded by Sahih Muslim the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said:“Let those who raise their gaze up during prayer stop doing so, or else their sights would not return to them” (i.e. they will lose their eyesight) [Muslim]

6. PERFORMING SUJOOD IMPROPERLY :

most common mistake observed in Prayers is to perform Sujood by resting only the tip of head on floor.
The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: “I am commanded to prostrate on seven bones the forehead and the nose, the two hands [palms], the two knees, and the two feet” [Muslim]

7. NOT PERFORMING PRAYERS DURING ILLNESS OR TRAVELLING :

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) always used to perform Prayers even during His last days before death. He (P.B.U.H) never neglected it even during combats. Prayer is obligatory and must be performed in any condition. If a person cannot perform ablution due to his illness then he may perform tayammum (dry ablution). If he cannot stand in prayer, he may perform Salah while sitting or even laying down. Same is the case while traveling. The person can combine 2 Salah while traveling i.e. Zuhr Prayer and Asr Prayer. or Maghrib Prayer and Isha Prayer.

8. CROSSING IN FRONT OF A PERSON WHO IS PERFORMING SALAH :

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: “Were the one who crosses in front of a praying person to know the consequences of doing so, he would have waited for forty years better than to cross in front of him” [Bukhari]

9. GOING TO MOSQUE FOR PERFORMING SALAH WITH RAPID WALK :

when the time of Prayer has approached and some person has fear that he might miss his Salah; for the fear of that most of us try to walk quickly or run for the fear of missing some part of the prayer. This is not allowed according to Hadith:

The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H) said: “When prayer has already started, do not walk quickly to join in. Proceed calmly and reposefully; then join in whichever part you catch up, and complete whichever part you missed” [Bukhari and Muslim]

10. EATING FOOD WHICH WILL CREATE BEFORE BAD BREATH BEFORE PERFORMING SALAH:

Consuming foods that have bad smell like the garlic or onion etc. should not be taken before the Salah because the bad smell may irritate the angels and the praying people.

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: “He who eats from the smelly plant [garlic or onion], let him come not near our mosque; the angels are bothered by that which bothers men” [Muslim]

May Allah guide us to perform our Salah perfectly and help us to guard our Salat so when on the Day of Judgment we are questioned about our prayers, we may succeed. Ameen.

But at the time of giving birth, a woman feels up to 57 Del of pain.
This is similar to 20 bones getting fractured at a Time.

The Different States Of Each Nafs

1- NAFS AL-MUTAMAINNA – the Satisfied Soul

“O you satisfied soul. Return to your Lord pleased with yourself and pleasing to Him. Enter among My servants. And enter My paradise”
(Soorah Al Fajr (89) :27-30)

2- NAFS AL AMMARA BIS SU’ – the soul that dictates evil

“And I do not free myself from blame. Indeed the human self is inclined to evil, except when my Lord bestows His Mercy (upon whom He wills). Indeed my Lord is Forgiving, Merciful”(Soorah Yusuf: 53)

3- NAFS AL LAWWAMA – the Self-reproaching soul

“I do call to witness the Resurrection Day. And I do call to witness the self-reproaching Soul.” (Soorah Al Qiyamah v 1-2)

The noblest of the souls is the satisfied soul, which at its last moments on earth will receive the glad news from its lord of “Enter among My servants and enter into my Paradise.” In contrast is the soul which inspires evil and disobedience. And between these two extreme states is the self-reproaching soul which checks its actions and blames itself when it commits evil. Most souls hover between these different states depending on the person’s faith and actions.

1. Nafs Mutmainna

The Qur’aan explains how one can achieve the noble state of the satisfied soul.

“Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.” (Soorah Al-Ra’d (12): 28)

The Qur’aan is the voice of Al-Rahman just as music is the voice of Satan. If the evil-inspiring soul finds solace in music, dance and its paraphernalia, the satisfied soul finds its peace and consolation in the Qur’aan, prayer and the company of the righteous. The satisfied soul has such a deep conviction in Allah and the Last Day that never is it upset by the sorrows or demands of this world.

During his return from a Jihad expedition, the Prophet (saw) once sat down to rest under the shade of a tree far from his devout companions. A Makkan called Chawrath bin Al Harith saw his golden chance and came forward with his sword drawn:

“O Muhammad. Who is going to save you from me now?”

Calm and un-fearing, the Prophet (saw) stood tall and replied simply, “Allah!”.

The man was surprised into confusion by this simple answer and unconsciously dropped his sword. The Prophet (saw) immediately picked up the sword and asked, “Tell me who will save you now?”. The man quietly answered, “There is no god worthy of worship but Allah.”

Illness, financial worries, loss of property or death of dear ones do not cause the satisfied soul to wail, curse or lament. Whenever it faces any problems it simply say, “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return” and faces the misfortune with patience and trust in its Lord. Such are the souls described in the Qur’aan;

“Be sure, We shall test you with something of fear,

hunger, some loss of goods or lives or fruits of your toils.

But give glad tidings to those who are patient.

Those who say, when afflicted by calamity:

“To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”

(Soorah Al Baqarah (2): 155-156)

The satisfied soul believes that all happiness and sorrow is by the decree of Allah. It therefore feels no need to lament at misfortunes or to boast at success.

“No misfortune can happen on earth or to your soul

but it is written in a decree before We bring it into existence.

That is truly easy for Allah.

In order that you may not despair over matters that pass you by,

nor exult in favors bestowed upon you,

for Allah loves not the vain boasters.”
(Soorah Al Hadid (57): 22-23)

No worldly anxieties upset the satisfied soul. If it fails to acquire something for which it has struggled for many years, it will accept its destiny and remember the following words of the Prophet of Allah (saw):

“What has reached you was never meant to escape you

and what has escaped you was never meant to reach you.”

(Muwadih by Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdadi)

The satisfied soul seeks its nourishment in Dhikr (the remembrance of Allah), prayer, fasting, Zakat and Hajj. It relies heavily for support on the branches of faith, the highest of which is to say and believe in “There is no god worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”, and the lowliest of which is to remove an obstacle from the path. Angels are present to strengthen this soul and to bless and greet it when it departs this material life, when it is resurrected and when it is admitted into the gardens of paradise. Their greeting to it is the greeting of a Muslim to his fellow Muslim: “Peace be unto you”

“And those who feared their Lord will be led to the Paradise in crowds;

until they arrive there, its gates are opened and its keepers will say:

“Peace be upon you! Well have you done. Enter here and dwell forever.”

(Soorah Az Zumar (39) 73)

2. Nafs ammara bis su’

In contrast this soul which earns the company of satan because it ignores the remembrance of Allah.

“The one who withdraws himself from the remembrance of the Merciful,

We appoint for him a satan to be a companion to him.”

(Soorah Az-Zukhruf (43) 36)

Satan’s cohorts and tunes surround the evil soul day and night. It drives from one satanic act to other. You will see it lying and cheating, wasting time on leisure and sports, frequenting cinemas and concerts, listening to music and dancing.

As one contemporary writer said,

“The godless society’s motto is “work and play’,

while the motto of the god-conscious society is, “work and pray”!

3. Nafs Lawwama

The self-reproaching soul succumbs to evil inspirations but then regrets its actions and reproaches itself for being weak and vulnerable. These feelings of remorse cause it to turn back to Allah, to repent sincerely, and to receive spiritual solace. It is better for each Nafs to blame itself whenever it commits a wrong. If not, it will find itself being blamed from all those around it. Consider how the self-reproaching soul is mentioned with the Day of Resurrection in the Qur’aan.

“I do call to witness the Resurrection Day.

And I do call to witness the self-reproaching soul.”

(Surah Al Qiyamah v 1-2)

There is a common factor between these two entities, which is that both are courts of justice. The Nafs al Lawwama is an inner court of justice within each person; when he acts wrongfully. his conscience or soul reprimands him, and it is then up to him to pay heed to it or to ignore it. Besides placing an inner court of justice within each person, the Creator has also prepared a larger Court which will operate on the Final Day and will mete out justice to all of mankind.

Consequences of Iman

A student studies hard for his final examinations, researching in libraries, practicing past papers and revising his notes because he wants a university degree which will help advance his career.

A businessman invests much of his time, energy and money into a commercial venture in the hope of large profits in the future.

A farmer ploughs his land, sows it, waters it and tends it regularly in the hope of a good harvest.

They all know that success does not come down on a plate but has to be achieved through hard work. Man does certain things in life for certain results, and he avoids other acts because of their consequences. An adult will not put his hand into a naked flame because he knows that fire burns, but a child will do so as he is unaware of the consequences. The most important Belief and Knowledge that should dictate our actions is that Allah Almighty exists, that He is the Creator and Provider, and that none can benefit nor harm us except with His permission. If a person’s Iman (faith) in Allah is firm and unyielding, he will be able to direct all his worship and obedience to Allah and will feel no fear of false deities or worldly powers.

Consider the encounter of Pharaoh’s court magicians with Prophet Musa as described in the Qur’aan. Before meeting the Prophet, they pleaded with Pharaoh for a substantial reward were they to defeat Musa in a duel using magic.

“So the sorcerers came to Pharaoh and said,

‘Of course we shall have a suitable reward if we win.”

(Surah Al-A’raaf v113)

Pharaoh accepted their plea and promised them not only a reward but also positions at court. When the encounter with Musa began, the magicians realized quickly that while their own display was simple magic, Musa’s display was extraordinary and much more than any human could conjure up. So overawed were they by Musa’s miracles that they all fell down in sajda (prostration) saying,

“We believe in the Lord of the Worlds. The Lord of Musa and Harun,”(Surah Ta Ha v 70)

Pharaoh was stunned by their declaration of faith in Allah and shouted :

“Have you believed in Him before I gave you permission?

Be sure,

I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides,

and then I will crucify you on trunks of palm trees.

So shall you know which of us can give the more severe

and lasting punishment.”

(Surah Ta Ha v 71)

These threats did not frighten the magicians. These men who had just been begging Pharaoh for more gold coins now became so fearless because of their faith in Allah that they answered him back easily.

“Never shall we prefer you over the Clear Signs that have come to us

and Him who has created us. So decree whatever you wish to decree.

For you can only decree concerning the matters of this world.

We have believed in our Lord; may He forgive us our faults

and the magic to which you did compel us,

for Allah is the Best and forever abiding”.

(Surah Ta Ha v 72-73)

What You Sow you will Reap
The man who believes that there is no afterlife and that he will not be accountable in a divine court becomes a slave of this world. He hankers after its comforts and luxuries, and will break any laws that stand between him and success. In his desperate quest for more wealth, he will refuse to differentiate between halal and haram. The tyrants and criminals of this world operate in the same manner. If to achieve their goals requires murder and violence, then so be it. The Bosnian Serbs were among the twentieth century’s worst examples of barbarity and tyranny; led by a pathological lust for more land, their evil knew no bounds.

In contrast is the man who believes in Allah and in the questioning of the Last Day. He fears his Creator’s wrath and desires his Lord’s favors. Certainty of belief in paradise and hell guides his entire life, not just the moments spent in prayer. To him this world is merely a short journey, the destination of which is the Hereafter. Thus he directs most of his efforts towards earning Paradise and devotes only part of his time to earning his bread in this world. He is constantly aware of his divine mission to call the misguided people around him to Islam and so he buries himself in da’wah work.

Belief in the Hereafter is the catalyst which stimulates the souls seeking a better future and its importance has been emphasized in the Qur’aan repeatedly. The true believers have been described as those who have firm faith in the Hereafter, because that will be the true life.

“What is the life of this world but amusement and play?

But indeed the home of the Hereafter is the true Life, if only they knew.”

(Surah Al Ankabut v 64)

The Ultimate Success is not in amassing fortunes, being famous or having a fantastic career, but success is in escaping the fires of hell.

“Every soul shall taste death, and only on the Day of Judgment will you receive your full recompense. The one who is saved from the Fire and admitted into Paradise will have attained success, for the life of the world is nothing but the goods of deception.” (Surah Aal Imran v 185)

The Messenger of Allah declared that wise is the man who reminds himself constantly of the accountability on the Day of Resurrection and so works hard for the life succeeding death. And stupid is the man whose only concerns are the transient desires and comforts of this life.

The Prophet (saw) also described this world as a farm for the ‘Akhira.’ (Hereafter). Whatever you sow in this world, you shall reap in the Hereafter. In order that people may not become complacent that the Day of Judgment is far away in the distant future, he advised each person to remember that his Judgment will begin on the day he dies.

Stay Away By Sickness

Four things that make your body sick:

Excessive talking
Excessive sleeping
Excessive eating and
Excessive meeting/outing with people

Four things that destroys the body:-
Worrying
Sorrow (Sadness/Grief)
Hunger
Sleeping late at night

Four things that make the face looking dull and haggard:-
Lying
Being disrespectful/impudent (knowingly)
Baseless arguements
Excessive immorality (committing sins without fear)

Four things that make the face glow and shine:-
Piety
Loyalty
Generosity and kindness
Helpful to others without being asked

Four things make the Rizqi (Sustenance) stop:-
Sleeping till late in the morning (from Fajr to sunrise)
Not Performing Fardhu or Irregular in Prayers
Laziness/Idleness
Treachery/Dishonesty

Four things that bring/increase the Rizqi:-
Staying up in the night in prayers
Excessive Repentance
Regular Charity
Zikr (Remembrance of Allah)

Weep Tears of Understanding

Everything has its indications and signs. Indications that knowledge is beneficial are that it leads to fine character, good manners and praiseworthy attributes. In this regard it was said:

“He whose knowledge doesn’t cause him to weep, can be justifiably considered not to have been granted beneficial knowledge,”

since Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala described the people of knowledge saying:

Say believe in it (The Qur’aan) or do not believe. Verily! Those who were given knowledge before it, when it is recited to them, fall down on their faces in humble prostration. And they say: “Glory be to our Lord! Truly, the Promise of our Lord must be fulfilled”. And they fall down on their faces weeping and it adds to their humility.”

Thus knowledge carries its possessor towards humility, prostration, crying, calling oneself to account and truthfulness with Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala.
Indeed crying is the clearest sign and best proof of the knowledge one possesses and of a person’s truthfulness. What is the benefit of knowledge a person learns, if it doesn’t lead him to crying, humbleness, penitence and good dealings with the people?
Is not the possessor of knowledge one who knows most about his Lord subhanahu wa ta’ala? Has he not read about His Exalted, Perfect, Lofty Attributes that which causes his heart to humble and his eyes to shed tears? Has he not read in the Book of Allaah and in the sayings of the Messenger of Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala, texts pertaining to the Fire, the terror in the grave and the fearful accounts of the Resurrection because of which mountains are humbled out of the fear of Allaah subhanahu wa ta’ala?
So compare your position to this – may Allaah have mercy upon us – and don’t forget that virtuous saying, “He whose knowledge doesn’t cause him to weep, can be justifiably considered not to have been granted beneficial knowledge.”
